Just keep posting, I started posting on December 19 2022 and I already passed 600 followers. I started with zero, the more you upload per day the more chances you have to reach those 3 goals, followers, 10 reel views or 4,000 hours watched in a year…
I had a serious health issue last year and had to stay away from creating content and because of that my channel went down. I started creating again this month and the views are not going high. This is an encouragement to all the new youtubers. I know that it seems that TH-cam is saturated and competitive but know that you are different and people can subscribe to hundreds of subscribers. It may be slow and time consuming but when it takes off you won't even notice the scars.
I used to be subscribed at one point to about 800 different people. Some of the people I subscribed to had millions of subscribers, but most ranged from below 1,000-50,000ish. You aren't wrong at all.

I've been experimenting with hashtags. For Shorts, I find the putting hashtags in the title is both the easiest method and also generates the most views. The alternative would be, as described in this video, going back and editing in the Details. I did that and left the hashtags in the description to avoid clutter on the screen, but the result is a huge drop off on views. Trying the standard now, leaving the tags where they belong in the tag bar, but it does not seem as effective as hashtags in the title for shorts. Thoughts?

The shorts algorithm is so broken. Sometimes my shorts will get no views and some will get a max of 1.4k and then stop getting viewed completely.... TH-cam just stops showing them. I constantly try the post them and then delete and re post later. But if they don't get picked up in the first 10 minutes they don't get viewed at all. Getting content out as a small channel is absolutely exhausting and demoralizing

You can't choose thumbnails on shorts if you upload it via desktop right now, but if you upload the short from mobile, you can choose the thumbnail, but it has to be a frame in the video.
Dude I'm glad you posted this, because I have to crank out a bunch of TH-cam shorts in order to generate the needed Watch Times to get my channel monetized. However, I messed up a little, (which I'm about to publish in a future YT video), but basically I spent over $1k on TH-cam promotions, racked up 20K disengaged subscribers, so now I have to publish without notifying the dead pool subscriber base, and create a bunch of TH-cam shorts to generate the needed watch time to then generate the needed threshold for monetization status by achieving 3,000 watch hours. Marcus, you're a blessing, and I appreciate all the videos you publish on the topic of content creation for beginning YT channels. IF it wasn't for TH-camrs like you, and various others who provide useful and engaging content on growing a TH-cam channel, I wouldn't done any video or content creation, so mad props to the creator community for keeping the rest of us all informed.

yeah but it all comes down to timing.. sure there are ways to look more professional resulting in people automatically watching longer. but if you uploading your short between 06.00 PM/08.00 PM and 11.00PM and 12.00. You have the most chance of getting into the shorts feed

I've been telling my team about hashtags, but they're reluctant to use more than the range of 3-5. So, thanks for your testing and the limit you quoted, I shared it with them immediately. I've always felt that all social media platforms are OK with more than couple of hashtags, TH-cam is obviously very gracious. Will start testing that ASAP.
