$550 is fair for sure. But I'd go with a Steamdeck if you're wanting a console for mostly emulation. The deck is better at emulating most things, but obviously not switch games
@@sayianprincevegeta7969 ok that’s what I was thinking, it would also be cheaper, but I mostly like playing switch games and I don’t think I could live with the literally 2 hours battery life you get with demanding PC titles on the deck. I’m looking forward to see how much the Asus Rog Ally costs, it looks like a much better device and if the price rumors are true then that would top both the deck and switch for me! But I also recently started looking at game streaming and it’s also a really interesting option. I streamed Botw at 4k 60 on my iPhone from my PC and it runs great and has crazy battery life. This might be a more practically option, if I sell my entire switch game collection (which I never use because I use cracked games on my modded V1 switch lol, I get $600 to spend. I might just stream games on my phone and just spend the money on a monitor or Apple Watch or something lol. I feel like if I get any game console, I won’t really use it that much tbh.
@@Ash-bl7vm The thing about Deck battery life is that it's just not restricting itself like the Switch does. If the Switch cranked the resolution like it was docked, it'd have a shorter battery life too. Cap the framerate at 30 or 40, run with video settings the Deck can easily handle, set the TDP of the hardware lower (yeah that's a setting they give you) and you can get significantly more than two hours out of it. It gives you the freedom to burn through the battery quick if you want to and most people have no self-restraint.
@Emma Madison The Switch dock does not add any compute capability to the console, it's literally just a stand with a few ports. Despite that, Switch games consistently run at a much higher resolution when docked, because there's no need to worry about energy consumption.

@@sayianprincevegeta7969 I have a question I trying installing a ds game on Tinfoil but it says it may cause problems to the homebrew should I be worried?
Good question! Actually, most people don't realize that when you have a modchip, if there's a major firmware update on your sysNAND, then you WILL have to update everything on the emu side as well. Usually minor updates won't affect anything though. Best rule of thumb is just don't update unless you have to.

I have a V1 switch that needs to be shipped out for repair, do you believe Nintendo could stop my system from being exploited on a hardware level when I ship it out ?
I hear ya. I don't update unless needed, so that's something I rarely have to deal with. Usually, when I do, I just uninstall my theme first, then update, then reinstall it.
can you make a video of the things to look out for to not get banned? obviously its still on us even if we follow directions and still get banned. just some verbal insight.
So, essentially what you should do is partition your SD card to have an emuNAND or emuMMC. This would be completely separate from your stock system, but essentially a copy. Once you've successfully created the emuNAND, you can drop a config file into the system that will automatically block access from nintendo communicating with your emunand. This will prevent them from accessing your console in any way, thus (virtually) eliminating the risk of a ban. More details here: rentry.org/CFWGuides
Odin 2 will have the most compatibility. The Switch will have its fair amount of upkeep if you plan on keeping the software updates current, but it's not too bad

I read so many places saying the switch needed to be original firmware for modding, but is that just for softmodding? I guess any version of switch can be modded with a chip?
Kind of. Your switches firmware doesn't really matter and all switches can be modded with a chip. Some Switches (V1's) can be soft modded with a small jig, but will have to have the payload pushed every time they turn their console off. Or it goes back to normal

As far as the chip goes it's the HWFLY chip, but my installer found and installed it so I have no idea
Oh btw friendly reminder, sometimes put you moded switch back to the normal theme that is dark not white because if you use colorful themes for too long mostly what happens is pixels can die or sometimes playing games the pixels will be very pixelated
Check out Wulff Den's video about screen burn in on the OLED. It shouldn't be a concern for most users
hey this really inspired me to unlock my switch’s potential thank you.
I have a question about your SOH Forwarder icon.. how with two files was that possible?
Sure thing!
The SoH.nro is the game. So if you forward to that application the game will play. The other files are for saves, settings, etc.
Dude this is shit that needed to be on the switch years ago! The opportunities Nintendo missed out on is insane.
I completely agree

how hard was it to change your layout to look the way it does? I don't necessarily want that background, but I'd like to have something with a little more life. Anything would greatly help. Thanks!
Super easy to change. There are thousands of themes already made, but you can always make your own if none of those call out to you.

just letting you know you can move in the menu with the dpad allot quicker than the analog stick the reseaon you keep getting stick drift you use 100% of the time the analog stick i still own my gray joycons with my friend because i use the d pad while moving in the menu both in game and in the xmb home . also does the switch can play 3ds games ok ?
3ds can be hit or miss depending on the game
Have you noticed any effect with battery drop by modding the device like this? Awesome video man! you got me thinking on the potential of what to do with my switch now
No, quite the opposite, actually. I have much better battery on the OLED than on my V1.
For reference, I can get about 3.5 hrs of continuous playtime on Tears of the Kingdom (handheld with high brightness, and overclocked to max safe settings)

Deciding between this and a steam deck and I can’t decide! Is $550 fair for a brand new modded OLED special edition?

Question, does it mess up your emunand when you do an official update to your switch on the sysnand? Thanks great video!
Good question! Actually, most people don't realize that when you have a modchip, if there's a major firmware update on your sysNAND, then you WILL have to update everything on the emu side as well. Usually minor updates won't affect anything though.
Best rule of thumb is just don't update unless you have to.

@@sayianprincevegeta7969 Nintendo is making lives difficult. People have to go to the extent of buying a hundred dollar chip online and having to have solder skills to put it in. Why can’t Nintendo just make the Home Screen more customizable and instead they’re spending money on lawyers
@quasium1 its not hundred dollars expensive anymore tho only 40 dollars US at most (i found many around 20 bux for v1 and v2 modchip) but i agree
I wish nintendo would pull a microsoft and give us a type of dev mode. But that doesn't sound like nintendo.
A new soft mod method for v2 switches would be better, but that might take years.
I don't really see nintendo ever doing that. They are actively copyright striking everything they can, as well as creating new updates that kill homebrew on dead systems like the 3ds..
It's so weird that they do this 😅

You have to partition your SD card to house both sides, but it was fairly simple
The Switch is not running a PC port. It's running a Switch port of the PC port. Someone had to make that happen, it's not a feature of the modded Switch that it can somehow play PC games.

I don't bother with themes anymore, whenever my switch accidentally updates it's a real pain in the ass reverting it and then reapplying the theme.
