In this video, I will show how to make a 12V Lithium battery by using 18650 and 32650 Batteries.
I have designed 3D printed case for these batteries with a size nearly equal to the traditional 12V UPS battery.
I have also added BMS to protect the battery pack from different abnormal situations. Also added a capacity meter to check the voltage and capacity of the battery pack.

Note: Before using these batteries check the charger specification of your UPS. Usually, the 4S LiFePo4 battery pack is more suitable for this application because of its nominal voltage of 3.2V.

I would like to see some longevity tests on something like this. Some cheaper ups units will actively use the SLA battery to smooth out the output voltage, this might cause excessive wear on Lithium based batteries.
Hi, I really liked your model. Just what I'm looking for. The only point is that I use catl prism batteries. If I asked you, would you be able to change the dimensions of the case and cover for me? I am far from 3D graphics, I can increase the size myself, but in this case, the dimensions for the screen and the connector also increase, and I need to leave them as they are, since I also use xt60 and the screen is the same size ... Nice video! However, your XT-60 is not mounted correctly. It’s supposed to be mounted from inside. So that the screws used on the outside pull the connector tight. Also, the XT-90 version is a better choice for more current capacity.
I’d love to see another 4 LFP cells in that box.(4S2P) for greater overall Watthours. (Ie -more capacity). Try staggering the cells instead of the “flat” matrix. If the box needs to be just a tiny bit bigger, it would be worth it to have double the capacity, and double the current delivery.

hi, i have started to make this with 32650 batteries. but i guess the outpot connector is the socket and the charging is to the terminals. is this right please.
I like a lot of this. But some of those cold solder joints are scary. Also, traditionally XT60s use the female connector for the battery, which is more protected.
Can always print a cover for the socket after all used the 3d printer to print the battery case

Is that the right connector for the pack? Surely it should be the socket, not the plug that goes on the live connections. Far too easy to short those connectors accidentally.

акум получился хороший единственная проблема это этот индикатор заряда. в общем индикатор надо соединять через кнопку иначе он высаживает акум в ноль, у меня там 2 банки умерло от переразряда
how do you charge it? do you bms or do you need a charging module?
U need charging module probably IMO this video lacks important information.
Does it really replace the Lead acid? Bcoz cut off voltage of lead acid circuits is different. Than full charge of li ion and lifepo4.
I have mentioned in the video description. But the Lifepo4 Battery cutoff voltage is very close to the lead acid battery.

The question I have in my mind is that you used 3s in one battery and 4s in the other, is there a purpose for this?

There are two different battery chemistry one is lithium ion and other one is lithium iron phosphate. The cell voltage of the first one is 3.7V and the second one is 3.2V. For the second one we need 4S ( 3.2 x 4 ) to get around 12V.
I've always wanted to build these batteries. Unfortunately, I only have 3 lithium ion batteries and I don't have the budget to buy more.
I don't trust those cheap "1500mah" batteries from China. Ordered once and it was very light.
Was actually planning to keep some money to buy the more expensive stuff to serve me longer during a power outage

What you’re asking is correct, FePO4 is a less dangerous cathode material than other chemistries such as NMC. However, LiFePO4 batteries are still Lithium Ion batteries.

This can be used only with ups where only smal amount of packs is used. It cant be used in high voltage battery systems like 8x12V. If one battery is depleted and BMS shut it down, then ohers wil reverse voltage on that battery and single BMS cant handle this and will burn,...

Nice project. A few remarks: The connector is better to use a female instead of a male. Less chance of accidentally short circuiting. Second, you're missing a fuse. You really need to fuse those otherwise they will explode. Thirdly, don't solder on the battery itself. It's difficult to heat up and it may damage the battery. Always solder on the nickel strip away from the battery. Also, be careful with your charger. Lead acid chargers are a lot different than lead-acid chargers.

Are you sure that BMS can even handle enough power to run your computer off your UPS? This seems very under built...
You can't call it a 12v battery if its 3s lithium and sits nominally at 10.8 volts. Good luck running any 12v devices besides a fan or a light bulb.

@@deepakmahapatra3060 Yes yaar, but you're not maximizing usable range of the battery - lithium 18650 has a range from 3.8 when empty and 4.2 volts when charged:
3.8v x 3 cells = 10.8v
4.2v x 3 cells = 12.6v.
This means your battery has a range from 10.8v to 12.6v. So when it's 100% charged you can call it 12v battery, but when it's 50% charged it will only have 10 or 11volts.
You should use lithium iron phosphate (Lifepo4) 18650 battery in a 4s configuration for better 12v battery. They have charge range from 3.2v to 4v. This way minimum 12.8 volts and max is 16v.

DISLIKE because while this works well with lifepo4, the title indicates this could also work with li-ion and this video does not discuss the issue of voltage difference between a standard ups that outputs up to 13+ volts into a li-ion. BMS could fail causing the battery to get over charged which is a fire hazard.
LiFePO4 batteries are still Lithium Ion batteries. Come on.
The voltage difference between SLA and Lithium batteries is not insignificant, the BMS will NOT be able to mitigate this.
This is NOT a safe hack and should NOT be used!

I don't see UPS and no test ? why that much batteries? I won't talk about how danger this bms board with no real balance, don't use this at home
Oh, battery is the easy bit. You can't just put different chemistry batteries into UPS's and the like and expect them to work or last. You need to modify the UPS battery settings to have a hope, foolish to just swap and expect to work.
