    Not bad, I was planning to buy 1500mAh 100C LiPo battery for this spot welder, but since it apparently can weld even with X20V batteries, I'll give it a try. I've only 4Ah batteries, but I can boost them with 18 more Amps from RD6018. Hopefully that's going to be enough.

    • @kamilhorvat8290

      In the end, I've read comments about destroyed boards, therefore I've decided not to experiment with powering this spot welder from 24V. 1500mAh 100C/200C LiPo has more than enough power for reliable spot welding of nickel strips.

    I'm excited to try your resistor mod. Very disappointed that I also bought it thinking it would work on a tool battery :( Thanks so much for sharing, I wouldn't have thought of just tricking the board :)
    I saw a few people on Aliexpress used solder to make the tracks on the back of the board thicker, I thought about doing the same with some copper wire. If you wanted to do a follow up video showing that and any other mods, I would be super interested. Or comparing different power sources, just an idea :)

    @ErCanEverything It would be perfect if you could design the case a bit more thicker so that that the wires from the battery could be run underneath the case, so that it could reach to the other end of the board. Hence you could place the board the other way around and you don't have to bring the wires up and curl it like it is now.

    I'm just about to do the same resistor mod for this exact PCB, albeit one that I've modded for use with Makita LXT batteries. 8-24v as the listing suggests seems to be an oddly specific voltage range considering they won't operate anywhere near that range without alterations.
    Almost makes me wonder if there was designed to be a menu switch to higher input voltages (Like how multimeters have different selectors for different orders of magnitude of voltage) or even pcb traces that are designed to be bridged or cut. The manual doesn't actually specify an voltage range, other than mentioning the use of 11.5-14.8v car batteries

    • @Yossarian-jb3lk
      @Yossarian-jb3lk 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did this board work with a Makita 18V battery? It manual says the battery internal resistance has to be between 2.5 and 7 milliohms and all the Makita batteries I have seem to be much lower. Am I going to fry it with a 18V Makita? Did you try it directly connected to the LXT battery?

    • @CalibreDesigns
      @CalibreDesigns 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Yossarian-jb3lk I did the resistor mod on two units. One failed, possibly due to bad soldering on my part (Voltage indicator would fluctuate all over the place after soldering the 100k resistor in)
      The 2nd board was more successful, it gave a consistent reading of 14-16v after the mod, however it only lasted for around 100 welds before the board stopped working altogether.
      In hindsight I wish I'd just used a small lead acid battery or taken the extra step to incorporate a 20v to 12v step down transformer or similar to give the board what it needed without the resistor mod, although I don't know if the spoofed voltage is what killed it, or if it was as you say with the internal resistance being too low

      @Yossarian-jb3lk 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ordered this module because it said in the description that it works from 8V to 24V, but after I connected it to a 20V battery, the inscription HI appeared, which means high voltage. And so I decided to put this 100Kohm resistor to trick the module that the input voltage is 15V to work. 4A is low and not healthy for the battery. I recently added another adapter to it and connected it to the XT60 connector. That is, I use 2 x 8Ah batteries and it works more stable.

      I ordered this module because in its description it was written that it works with a voltage of 8 to 24V.
      And after I prepared everything for the video, it turned out that it does not work with a voltage above 16V. And so I decided to trick the module using a 100K resistor which will show the voltage around 15V. 🙂

      I haven't tried this, but for that purpose I think it would need to be connected to a more powerful battery or powered by the optional XT60 connector.

      spot welding copper requires currents in excess of 1200A to 1500A. None of these PCB boards will do copper of any appreciable thickness. You might be able to do thin copper foil if you put a piece of nickel over the top of the weld area

    Good video except......... passing the negative lead through the positive hole & then soldering the negative along side ...... what could possibly go wrong ?????? if your going to do something so risky as that, you should at least put a fuse in line with at least one battery lead !, otherwise you have potentially created a fire bomb !, good luck with that ! , ..... you will need it !

    Does this guy do anything that actually makes sense??
    Lets mount it in a plastic box so it overheats and becomes a molten mess on the bench.
    Oops, I fed the wires through the wrong holes, oh well we won't show too much of that f.up, lets just solder the wires to their correct places on the board and hope we don't melt the insulation of the incorrect wires right next to them and short this thing out completely.
    Coming up next, we'll sart a fire when the wires short out and the battery goes BOOM!!
    ...although the piss ant small blade terminals underneath the case will probably act as a fuse beforehand🤣

    12 AWG cables, that are thin cables for Spot Welding.
    I have used 8AWG cables, and i would have made the two last cables you soldered shorter the shorter they are the better.

    • @ErCanEverything
      @ErCanEverything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also think they are a bit thin, but I used the cables from the kit, right?
      I'm thinking of adding 1 more battery adapter to it that I'll connect to the XT60 connector to make it work fully🙂🤝
