I always enter melee tournaments when I can. If you place a bet of 100 denares for each round, you can rack up well over 3000 if you win, which isn't much of a challenge.
xBeau Gaming Yeah like the deathball nice, I'm trying it out now although I have 5yrs in the game :( I knew the deatball trick but just never named it.
if you get good using swords and shields a good source of money, when u find them, is completing tornements and betting 100 denars on you each round you can get up to 3000
3890 gold + city approval + 20 renown (base) + an opportunity to go to castle and make friends with ladies. ALSO, when you start the game - don't bother about looters or anything really. Arena = free exp and money grind.
A good point to mention is that if you somehow do get attacked early game by say a group of 14 Forest Bandits, they will all be armed with bows of some kind most likely. If all your troops die off a good tactic is to just get your shield out and ride round in a big circle around the forest bandits, they'll shoot at you the whole time but the chances of you getting hit are small if you keep your shield up. After about maybe 5 - 7 minutes all the troops will have run out of arrows and that is when they practically become a looter group with a bit better armour so you can use the death ball like Beau was talking about.
Tactical Project i know this conversation has nothing to do with me but i really liked how you answered even though you r comment is 4 years old and i wanted to give you credit for it
Thanks for making these videos I have around 20 hours in the game but still don't understand the fundamentals and this series provides that in a geat way.
Tip if you know how combat works and are good: Right at start find a tournament, Bet yourself as much as possible. Free 1600g at start which should really help.
so I started off in Floris mod, which is amazing, I started with the basic quest and a few other tasks, after that I went and enlisted in the sarranid Sultanate army (Yeah, you can join the army in many other mods) and it is a good way to level yourself up and make a lot of cash up in the early game. I made up till until 20k and then I left to get a big enough party and became a manhunter. with enough forces and a decent amount of cash I started a civil war against the Rhodoks who literally just held Jalkala and a few castles. Now, I've captured almerra castle and jamiche castle and have 3 Lords under me and a decent amount of cash in my treasury, seems like we've got another player for the game of throne of Calradia ;)
How have I only just recently discovered this game. Cheap as chips to buy and better than the majority of AAA games the companies are regurgitating nowadays.
You know, several years ago I got a lot of the M&B games on sale, and I never got too far into them because it got a bit too complex for me Really glad I started to play them because they're absolutely brilliant once you get good, I played a lot of Kingdom Come Deliverance and it got me hyped for medieval games again so I started M&B again
wow, soooo helpful, i bought it yesterday, did all the opposite stuff you said before i knew it, i was captured and lost everything, then immediately started over with your tips
Really glad to see you're continuing this. I restarted recently and followed your guide and it's working out so much better than my previous attempts. Could you list what mods you're using?
Something I wish I knew when I first started is how good the Nord starter units were when you first get out there. A quick way to get some effective archers and the maxed-out unit is only 11 gold per unit. The second form is the Nord Huntsman. In my opinion one of the best starting units
The death ball is an interesting strategy, but with a group of week enemies that small you can just solo them, ride up with your horse, turn side ways and spam at their unprotected heads, one shotting them.
This is literally so helpful! I just bought the game yesterday and started playing and man I have fucked up majorly as it - started as a female their steppe child game hunter hahaha fml. Thanks for the battle tips though!
BTW the steppe child refers to a child that roamed the steppe, as in the geographical area that the Khaganate controls in game, except a different one since you come from somewhere else in game. It doesn’t refer to being someone’s step child. Just wanted to clear up some confusion.
in battles I personally recommend making all your troops, especially ranged, to stay at one place (go wherever you want them, then press F1 twice). Then they can spam the enemy with bolts/arrows and if the enemy gets close, the meelee troops finish them off. Really minimizes casualties, even against looters.
Shit, I just started playing the game, and was playing M&B, the original, I became a merc, and became involved in a series of battles. Someone of which were pretty massive, a memorable one where we had 6 concurrent battles, all of which took 10 minutes of fighting...so much fun!
Another thing I think is applicable for this stage in the game is to put a point in Prisoner management. You will need a later when capturing lords and the looters carry clubs. Equipment as a side arm and use it to take out the last five enemies
I might wanna add that there are some quests like, letter delivery and finding murderer which are substantially easy and net you some good gold probably into 300s, so try and do them.
A great way to get a little income when you've become comfortable with combat is betting on yourself in tournaments. The weapons they give you seem to depend on where the tournaments are being held, jousting in Swadia, horse archery in the Khanate, so on and so forth. If you place the maximum bet and win all rounds you get a little south of 4000 Denars (monies) which you can then use to get started trading, get better gear, get a bigger army, gather some followers, or placing more bets on yourself in other tournaments. If you can't find a tournament there's an npc in the tavern, bard or something, that keeps track of where they're being held and how long they've been going on, or maybe he keeps track of the feasts? I can't remember... Anyway feasts usually have tournaments accompanying them.
Swadia is pretty ideal, also because everyone usually declares war on it mid-game about the time you make your own kingdom. Basically you can clean up the fight, and take the rest of swadia.
I have all mounted units and the speed is around 6.8 , how the heck do i catch steppe bandits? (swadian knights/slaver chiefs/sword sisters) Which of these help map movement? Pathfinding/horseback riding/ athletics Should i let companions only level these (how many since some are party/personal skills?)
Steppe bandits are all on horses as well, so they are indeed hard to catch. Pathfinding increases your map movement. I wouldn't recommend it, because companions are really usefull with skills like engineer or wound-treatment, but that's your decision :).
Wait what would you recommend/not recommend? because i'm not really understanding bonuses spotting(4+1) and such, one because i have it and another companion has it?
Pangjunmin Each point you put in path finding increases your map movement speed by 3%, so if you have a 3(+1) in path finding, that means their is someone in your party that has a path finding of 3 and another companion that has 1 point in that skill. You can apply this with spotting as well, so 4(+1) in your case would mean that you can see 50% more than you would if no one had any proficiency in spotting. Hope this helped.
Pangjunmin Nothing, it doesn't stack like that. Pretty much the only one that stacks is training. Also it would be a waste of your companions doing that.
How the hell do you take the loot with one click? I always end up taking half the loot cause it's so annoying to have to carry every single item to my inventory xD
Just a suggestion that may or may not work, if you put one into tracking it's easier to find enemies. (Wouldn't suggest fighting forest bandits unless you have numbers that rival theirs.)
you introduced me to this game during your series "Lumpy McDuffer" and ive loved this game ever since. :) oh BTW you should make another series like lumpy mcduffer it was a kickass series! or just do a lets play on any game! i love your vids!
Something that has worked for me, for quick cash, if you can find a tourny in one of the cities, and you think you are good enough with a sword, DO IT...you get paid 3k+ Denar and at the same time you can level up your weapon stats....first time i played after attacking some looters, i got the hand of swinging a sword, i did my first tourny day 4 (irl) of playing and made fk tons of cash.
This is quite true, I'm always on the lookout for tournaments in town when I'm just starting out. And just to add to what you're saying, make sure to have around 500 - 700 denars since you need to bet on yourself 100 denars per round to max the profits on the tournies. The more you bet, the more you earn.
So if you have ever watched the TV series work-a-holics. You sound exactly like a guest character, who's refered to as "Dick Blownoff", that they hire as an actor to mess with a friend.

tournaments are a really good way to build up some money. Just bet everything you can and you get a huge amount of money, because they're really easy to win.
SkillaWillits If you're going to do that, also make sure to pickup a little trading skill so you can buy items in one town to sell for a profit while moving between capital cities. That's a great way to make a ton of money.
How do you click on loot and automatically place them in your inventory? I usually have to drag them and that's quite a bit of a mess...also can you explain the difference of skills that stack and skill that don't? Thanks in advance mate , you are awesome 😊
how do i build my army up numbers? ive played this game for the best part of just over a year and somehow only managed to get my army count up to 133 on my 1st run of the gane and 140 or so on the 2nd run, i guess it isnt a problem as ive conquered calradia 2 times, but i just dont understand what i need to do to get the numbers up, i think its something to do with morale but im not too sure, im not very knowledgable on this game, theres just so much to the game to take in, can someone please help me out?
Personally always had a preference for the Rhodok's Spear wall + crossbow troops, but I'm super defensive. I tend to just tell my guys to hold on top of a hill and let the crossbows rip the enemy apart then just let what's left walk into the spearmen. Pretty much guarantees a victory even if you're hugely outnumbered, but it is probably one of the more boring ways to fight a battle. Even early game it's pretty terrifying, ten crossbow guys can take out three times their number in enemies provided you run interference on a horse, but again really defensive. And siege battles are pretty damn painful at times.
Hold position outside the walls and just let the crossbows turn the defenders into pincushions when they stick their heads out to try to line up shots that inevitably plink off all the great shields. You just sit there until you run out of bolts then retreat and instantly attack again. Each assault will kill dozens of enemies and unless you're up against other Rhodok's with tons of crossbows on the walls the chances of you losing anything is small at best. The other teams just don't have the ranged firepower to compete even with walls to help weather the storm. I've destroyed absolutely enormous garrison this way and only lost one or two guys. Usaully those are the ones that go down in the actual final charge to finish the castle off rather then during the "turning the enemy into porcupines" stage. Is it a flashy epic charge into the courtyard full of awesome and excitement? Nope. Does it work? Yes. The only other way I've destroyed comparable garrisons is with full Knight or Hoursecarl armies and even then I'll usually lose quite a few. Considering Knights are expensive and Housecarls take forever to train, I'll take my slow and steady wins.
Dragoon 321 Playing through With Fire and Sword right now, and those muskets- damn them! Trying to besiege a town but suffering tens of casualties before even reaching the ladders is brutal, at the very least.
why do I encounter HUNDREDS of enemies when I would attack like a landing or hideout like I tried attack the sea raider landing by sargoth, Their was at least 350 looter or bandits
I'm a level 20ish vassal with Swadian knights but I only have 18 (+10ish hired blades and mercenary swordsmen) and we're at war with everyone. I love the knight army and I'm stomping lords' armies 6 times my size in the field but how do I take castles? I don't want to waste my knights (and more importantly my men at arms who I need to replace them) throwing them at walls but I don't have time to hire a bunch of recruits and train them up as sergeants.
Robert R Get a bunch of crossbowmen, line them up outside the wall and wait. They will kill off most people in the castle in a few fights (generally they will run out of arrows before all die) and you can take the last few out with your cav/inf.
Having trouble finding a guide for original Mount and Blade, but this is really helpful nonetheless. Anyone willing to offer tips on where this guide won't work?
The best way to get money early game is to enter tournaments. You can earn around 4000 denars if you manage to win and have bet 100 denars on yourself every round
This is a nice guide, also just saying part of that "Death Ball" strategy was a strategic formation used by the Mongolians called a Cantabrian Circle
actally it was used by alot of people before the mongols it originated in iberia
I always enter melee tournaments when I can. If you place a bet of 100 denares for each round, you can rack up well over 3000 if you win, which isn't much of a challenge.
isn't much of a challenge if you save scum... Nobody that actually plays legit goes around saying this nonsense. Tournaments are highly unpredictable
Jacob Darenberg So pray tell, Jacob, how does One play "legit"?
The Plucky Brit By not save scumming, and by playing with normal damage, obviously.
Jacob Darenberg And where on earth was it implied in my comment that I don't play with normal damage?
The Plucky Brit I said low damage or save scumming. you need to do one of those to claim that tournaments are easy money.
Ctrl + Space. I wonder why the game didn't told me this, from my 16 hours of gameplay I think that 10 must be travelling between cities. Thanks!
Because it's kind of considered a cheat in the game methane his you can also control right click to teleport anywhere on the map
UnityKingGaming Really?
You can't just use Ctrl + Right Click, you have to enable it first. Ctrl + Space is sort of the kind of thing that was meant to be used.
how i can to enable???????!!!!
i found this out after hundreds but played the game when young
A group of about 100 Swadian Knights is like 3-4k weekly cost. It's nuts
Emperor Ehryn by the time you have that many you would have lots of money
And they're so OP that you'll never lose a fight
So yeah...
Try run 120 mercenary cav they are expensive
Best solution: get a city

SkillaWillits If you're going to do that, also make sure to pickup a little trading skill so you can buy items in one town to sell for a profit while moving between capital cities. That's a great way to make a ton of money.
be careful with who you do the death ball with if you do it with the sea vipers they’ll fuck you up with polearms
Pleged my alegance with swadia, now half the cities are looted what do i do? 😅😅😅
How do you click on loot and automatically place them in your inventory? I usually have to drag them and that's quite a bit of a mess...also can you explain the difference of skills that stack and skill that don't?
Thanks in advance mate , you are awesome 😊
6:58 so that's explain why my companion survived siege even when I retry it for 50 times
how do i build my army up numbers? ive played this game for the best part of just over a year and somehow only managed to get my army count up to 133 on my 1st run of the gane and 140 or so on the 2nd run, i guess it isnt a problem as ive conquered calradia 2 times, but i just dont understand what i need to do to get the numbers up, i think its something to do with morale but im not too sure, im not very knowledgable on this game, theres just so much to the game to take in, can someone please help me out?
I know this is late but ive been trying to gather a large army but i keep getting raided by large armies of bandits and lords
Do tell how you manage to take towns or castles im curious
Dragoon 321
Playing through With Fire and Sword right now, and those muskets- damn them! Trying to besiege a town but suffering tens of casualties before even reaching the ladders is brutal, at the very least.
How do I move loot into my inventory? All I ever do is click and drag
why do I encounter HUNDREDS of enemies when I would attack like a landing or hideout like I tried attack the sea raider landing by sargoth, Their was at least 350 looter or bandits
They will kill off most people in the castle in a few fights (generally they will run out of arrows before all die) and you can take the last few out with your cav/inf.
shield walls and archers for protecting castles, two handed weapons and archers for taking them is my ideology.
To be honest if you have 30+ Swabian knights you can talk a castle as long as it's under like 140 solders with minimal casualties
How do you click and just move stuff in the inventory
so how do I give my guys horses I put them on calvary I bought some horses when I go into battle i'm still the only mounted guy?
What about the training field is that a good. Place to build ur army
Any tips on horseback combat ? I could really use a few.
I'm playing mb on Xbox and I'm loving your guide
So my leadership skill is stuck on 4 I dont know how to make it go higher
spawn on swadia , take nords infantry , rhodks crossbowman and use then together with the swadian Knights, be invencible.
that's my tactic
Also, i started at the kingdom of nords to get all the sea raider items, do you know what the nord warrior becomes?
I've seen marid before I use him as a companion or for fun a human shield against arrows
playing on 112% difficulty is so hard but rewarding.
7 years later, I, a newbie, have to ask: Why put skills on Power draw when you can keep the crossbow?
Having trouble finding a guide for original Mount and Blade, but this is really helpful nonetheless. Anyone willing to offer tips on where this guide won't work?
I like getting the companions first since they are expendable and I just put everything in surgery so my guys get knocked out instead of dying.
The best way to get money early game is to enter tournaments. You can earn around 4000 denars if you manage to win and have bet 100 denars on yourself every round
What is the best way to approach tornaments?
