    Jeremus is the most MVP boi ever. if i had to choose between Jeremus and all the others, i'd pick Jeremus.
    bcs of medic skills ur units rarely die. if they dont die, they get experience. if they get experience, they get upgrades. if they get upgrades, they become top tier. if ur units are top tier, they whoop ass. if ur units whoop ass, then ure happy.

      TheRagaz I see jeremus it as an economical and stratigical benifit. If a high ranked unit of mine dies, then I have to go to the trouble of getting new recruits and spending time and money getting them upgraded. But if they are knocked unconscious then they can live to fight another day.

    The companion interactions are actually awesome. Dashevi and the ginger chick bonded over hating another guy I had. Became best friends, both of them let me know they would kill for the other, and eventually asked to leave my group for a few days to go murder someone together. Hated them both at first but now they’re my favs. Also they both “died” then I found them and like 4 other dead companions at a tavern just chilling and they ALL had a little story of how they were prisoners and escaped and shit, and now conveniently can’t find work! Good stuff.

    >Jeremus is the most important companion early on cause he's the healer and will keep your party going
    >Artimenner is important mid-game cause he is engineer for making siege equipment faster
    >Otherwise try to hold on to everyone as long as possible cause you want to level them up early and always to be good lords late game
    >Companions with high point in intelligence skills are important cause you should focus mainly on combat skills until you become a king
    >Path-finding is the most important skill for player at start of game cause it will help you evade stronger armies

    I wouldn't make making Lezalit the party doctor a priority. Rolf starts with some doctor skills, but more importantly, both of these dudes are Nobles. So for me all the Nobles have to be great fighters. They're gonna be leading armies so I need them to be powerhouses. All the other people become skill dumps.

      Fighting skills on a vassal is totally and utterly trash. What matters is their certain party skills and their charisma/leadership. The only time their fighting skills will be useful is when they fight with you in the same battle. And even then, it wouldn't be a big deal since at that point you have dozens of knights and elite infantry/archers.

      Usually for me, Matheld, rolf, lezalit, behastur, firestis, Deshavi nizar are good for melee or range; while Ymira, Klethi, Jeremus, Borcha and Artimenner are good for auxiliary skills (Looting, engineering, Path finding, tracking, surgery, wound management, first aid, trade, trainer and Prisoner management)

    The thing I lately experiment with is maxing INT first on all of them investing particularly a ton in the Trainer skill so that they push eachothers levels and speed up my troop upgrades. I throw points in INT until trainer skill gets to like 7 and the additional skill point I always throw into Damage/Protection skills once the Char specific strong previously high skill is leveled highly alongside Trainer (Marnid gets points in CHA from time to time, Ymira in First Aid, Alayen in Power Strike, Ironflesh, Deshavi & Borcha in Path-Finding/Spotting/Tracking, Matheld, Firentis, Rofl & Nizar get all into AGI and STR since theyre solid frontliners by default. Klethi gets turned into a frontliner too and Katrin can be also a trader / semi-healer / knight type of toon. Jeremus clearly for Surgery + Wound Tr. ,Artimenner is Engineer, Tactics/Trade secondary, Lezalit is a nice trainer by default anyway, rest is as mentioned above knight stats in priority order from my point of view: Power Strike, Power Draw, Ironflesh, Riding, Shield, Horse Archery (since bows are the fastest ranged with big ammo stock), Athletics and Weap. Master maaaayyyybe..lastly u can always use spare pathfinders, wound treaters or spotters after in the inbetween levels you stop getting points for Trainer and the knight stats (reached current inbetween bracket cap, like between every 3 invested base stat points you'll either have to wait for next levels to invest in several wanted traits and keep your skill points or invest em straight away for a secondary role of the companion). If you read this so far I really hope my way of developing companions gave you a cool idea or some shit and sorry for wasting your time. Also great video, you have a good narrative voice that's easy to listen to.

    just wanted to say, if you assign your medic or another guy to archers you can expect their leveling will be painfully slow, because cavalry usually does all the killing. another way to keep medic alive is to assign them to a separate safety group and if you're expecting heavy casualties like in a siege just stick that group where they wont get hurt. and if your just killing bandits you can as well charge your medic along with the others to get him some kills, provided hes mounted which he should be. all companions should be mounted for faster leveling

  • @dorylaions
    @dorylaions 6 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    You shouldn't build your noble companions as warriors if you want them to be your vassals in the future. They will need leadership, pathfinding, trainer, spotting, tactics and wound treatment in this respective priority. Just max their charisma and only their charisma, which increases their party size by 1 per a point as well as allows you to maximize their leadership skill which increases their party size by 3 per a point. Just use other party skills I mentioned as fillers. They won't be as strong individual fighters when they are in your party, but you simply do not have the luxury to make them super good warriors and a good vassal at the same time.
    Just give them a shield, a one-handed and a light crossbow, use them as heavy-ish cavalry. Even the worst ones will have around 110 weapon proficieny. Matheld for instance has 3 weapon master initially, which is enough to get her close to 200 proficieny, which is more than enough to make her better than knights in long term.
    I repeat, if you want a companion as your vassal in long term, just max out their charisma and leadership. Otherwise, they'll have small and useless parties, which can't defend any fief you give them. They will keep losing battles, even to bandits, which will make you lose reputation with them, which will eventaully cause them to defect to other faction.
    Generally when their charisma reaches lvl 24 and their leadership lvl 8, you will want to appoint them as vassals. At that point it becomes really slow for them to get more lvls. In theory you can grind a bit more to get them to higher levels, but I simply do not suggest that. It becomes just boring...
    This is the only way to make them useful as vassals. Otherwise, just don't bother with your companions and use other factions' lords as vassals.

  • @Laireso
    @Laireso 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know I'm late for the party and probably nobody reads this but here is all I learned about companions and skills in general. Noting my experience comes mainly from the original M&B, so maybe some things will be different in Warband or other expansions.
    Party skills:
    Only highest skill in your party applies, which means if you have 1 and your companion has 2, your party has still only 2. Your companions can reach up to lvl 10 on any skill, just like you. HOWEVER your character gets bonus points for spending his precious points into Party skills:
    0-1 = 0 bonus
    2-4 = 1 bonus
    5-7 = 2 bonus
    8-9 = 3 bonus
    10 = 4 bonus
    This means if you want some skill to be as high as possible, you want your own character to spend points into it and not your companions. Your companions won't have any effect once your character has it at 10, so spend companion points only into party skills which you don't want to spend points into on your main character. I would suggest letting all Party skills for your companions and focus yourself on strenght, agility and charisma. Inventory Management should be good enough at about lvl 5-6. Leadership as high as possible, Prisoner Management at least lvl 4, Persuasion is personal preference. It has much more uses in Warband and other expansions when making your own kingdom, so do your research, in original M&B it's pretty useless though as there is no feature to create kingdom nor marry anyone.
    I have this setup:
    - 1 person to max out Charisma for 10 Trade.
    - 1 person to max out Agility for 10 Looting.
    - 2 people to max out Intelligence for 10 Trainer, Tracking, Tactics, Pathfinding, Spotting, Wound Treatment, Surgery, First Aid, Engineer.
    Other companions raised into elite warriors. At least 4-5 Trainer (always useful in any situation on any character), spend the rest into Strenght and Agility depending on which weapons you give them.
    - Spare points on all characters should focus on Ironflesh/Trainer/Power Strike/Weapon Master
    Weapon choices:
    - Two-handed weapon + Bow needs a lot of skill points and is weak early on with weak armor and not enough skill points invested, but once mastered they are damn worth it. Can work on horse as well.
    - Polearms on horses are real good early on - AI knows how to use them and it's useful for when peasants attack you and you defend yourselves with staffs, also you can take it from your knocked out companion and you can pick it up from your downed companion in sieges when enemy AI just stands in front of a ladder and you can get free kills with the extra reach it provides, but later on you won't struggle with peasants nor sieges and polearms don't have any late-game super strong version like Bows or One-handed/Two-handed weapons have so not preferable for your main fighters.
    - One-handed weapon + shield sounds really good for making elite infantry units or cavalry units and are great damage sponges in sieges as well, all round good choice for a fighter. Equip them with 1 sharp weapon, 1 blunt weapon, 1 steel shield, 1 pack of arrows or another shield. That extra pack of arrows is useful in sieges when you run out of arrows/bolts, you can just collect these from your downed companions.
    Companion combinations:
    Every companion has 1 person who he likes, 2 people who he dislikes, so with bad balancing, your companion will want to leave sooner or later no matter what you do. Smart way to do this is to have 1 who he likes, 1 who he dislikes so it balances out and they won't leave you as long as you keep high morale.
    This was incredibly useful for me to make my composition of companions:
    - mountandblade.fandom.com/wiki/Heroes
    - mountandblade.fandom.com/wiki/Hero_tactics
    Some of them won't like you raiding villages or retreating and they will let you know it, but they won't leave as long as you keep the companion combination complete and will have high morale. Enjoy and thanks for your time reading it, I hope it was worth your time and helped you. :)

    • @Laireso
      @Laireso 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I forgot to say: in the video it tells you to pick the fighters first, I would suggest rather taking only companions for your composition because a bit weaker heroes who don't leave your squad are better than the strong boys who can at any point say: "Hey player, screw you, I'm gonna go play minecraft for a while, because Rofl called me stoopid. Have fun without my party skills for next few weeks!"

      +Dio Brando If you get captured you'll loose some of your items & all your army , & after about 5 seconds will be released (with some of your companions & the rest can be found in Taverns in Towns or they'll join you after a while).
      ... & no; your companions will not pay for your freedom (may be different in some mods),
      but you can pay for them if they're captured (ask a Ransom Broker or a Traveler in Taverns about where they are then find the enemy Lord that captured them to pay for their freedom)
      ... of course they'll not be captured unless far later in game if you appoint them as Lords in your own Kingdom (you must be King of your kingdom to do that)
      ... The only way to be a King; is to be free from any obligation to any faction, then attack a lord to mark his faction as enemy to be able to siege & capture one of his factions' Castles or Towns, then choose to appoint yourself as monarch with your own Kingdom (the faction you attacked will be your enemy & all other factions will not accept you as a new King until you raise your "Right to Rule")

      Marijn Konings strait Swadian knights destroy any army any size. I’ve taken 75 knights against over 1000 and by the end I still had over 50. It all comes down to you and tactics unless your army is on foot. Then your screwed. Same with sieges. I go strait swadian knights and never lose. Also they are easier to train than huscarls.

    since I cant use cavalry for crap cuz I like the old "Turtle with shieldwall infantry with archers volley firing in the back tactic" I make all my infantry/cavalry oriented companions into huscarl/master spearmen or two handed warrior type units with heavy shields with one handed/ two handed with throwing weapons or master spearmen and my healers as archers be it crossbowmen or reg archers, deshavi is a better archer than a horse archer imo but to his is his own great video

    • @greatkingdavid9717
      @greatkingdavid9717 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      when I mean "can't" use cavalry for crap I mean I chose not to, if I was a real general in an army I would throw away the cavalry for more tougher infantry cavalry in most mods are not balanced enough but I do use them sometime but thats only when I'm farming bandits or stopping lords from raiding villages

    You can have 10 companions without anyone leaving the party.
    Alayen
    Ymira (party doctor - she's amazing)
    Artimenner
    Borcha
    Bashetur
    Rolf
    Bunduk
    Katrin
    Nizar
    Matheld
    I put them in pairs who like each other, borcha and arti like/hate noone in this setting. Everything balances out. That's the 10 u want, not the 8 of either group.
    Give everyone sword and board + horse, except for ymira. u can add crossbows to everyone for sieges if u want to. That's what u gotta do.

  • @eXtreamAngel

    I played few times and every time I meet Yumira first in the tavern. I like her as for her story as for her skills. She is a great doctor with Surgery, First Aid, and Wound Treatment. I always take her first. I was thinking about Jeremus but I found him don't like fighting too much, so I decided that Yumira is the best option for doctor.
    The second sompanion I accepted is Deshavy with her Pathfinding, Spotting and rest of her skills that I get from Intelligence, I put into Engineering to build ladders and siege towers faster. She is not strong in fighting, that's why I give her Power Draw 2, A bow and a horse, and she sticks with archers.
    Alain is the 3rd guy just because Yumira likes him. Maybe it's not a good criteria for someone's relationship to another companion, but hey... It's just a game... I don't need to have too powerful party to smash everyone... And Alain is a fighter with One Handed weapon, Shield, Throwing weapon and Lance.
    4th Companion is Klethi. She is a rogue and Deshavi likes her. She starts with throwing weapon and Melee Damage but without riding what is not good. So I give her 3 riding skills, give her Lance, Balanced Jarids, Shield and One Handed Saber.
    5th Companion is the companion who doesn't disliked by anyone in the party. One time it was Bunduk and he was a fighter, and other time it was Firentis.
    I wanted to try to compose the party of other companions, but I couldn't accept the fact, that Yumira and Deshavi should be in the party for 100% percent (((( So I had to push my thoughts from those companions.

    xbeau I have a question.... the last video you said goodbye and had alot less Denar, how did you aquire 70k Denar and the cost required for every possible companion? I am still having difficulty have followed your guide completely so far, have been moving cautiously around the map searching for looters and was chasing a small band of looters and a large band of deserters literally appeared out of no where and I attempted to escape from them but they caught up to me and kicked my ass quit brutally as all I had were swadian militia against their Nordic Veteran Archers so any tips on how to avoid this? I was moving slow trying to single out only looters and got blind sided by deserters this was within the first 4 days of my campaign. Also any tips on how to obtain denar faster would help, have been killing looters and selling loot to vendors and joined a tournament and bet 100 on myself every round and won the tournament so far that's the fastest way but when there are no tournaments are there other quick ways to obtain denar??

    What I hate about giving my companions lordship is that they start with 40-50ish relationship status. This number keeps decreasing as time goes by and I have to try to please them as much as possible. I find the easiest way to grow relationship is to help them in battles. Giving them troops don't raise any points. This is such a hassle.
    I'm thinking staying as a vassal to get 100 relationship with five or so existing lords and then recruit them when I defect. In that case, I don't see the point of building the first 8 companions, instead I'm just gonna go straight into the second set of 8.
