Thanks a lot man, it is exactly what I needed, and I didn't find clear tutorials online, so thanks a lot for the effort you put in in making this video!
I am having the worst time mapping my Ipac2 contols to Retroarch. I have 2 sticks, 6 buttons per player, 2 coin buttons, 2 select buttons, player 1 and player 2 buttons and 3 MISC buttons. I got player 1 working, but player 2 is not co-operating. I'm at a loss as to how to get this done.

So I have a RPi3 and a xmo usb 2 player joystick and although retro pi recognizes the controller, it only recognizes it as one player and no buttons respond during the button configuration. Cant find a fix anywhere. Plz help!
hello, thanks for your video... i have a problem with xin--mo usb controller... it will not generate the autoconfig file under retroarch... i use retropie 4.1... the setting in retroarch.cfg input_autodetect_enable = "true"... emulationstation works corretly, but any emulator see xin-mo joystick and buttons. could you help me? thanks.
Is there any way you could create a video showing how to connect two PS3 via bluetooth and get them working as Player 1 and 2? I have tried and failed so many times now by following first how to set up a ps3 controller to work via bluetooth (which works as a charm, thanks for that!). However I can only get one PS3 controller to work at a time. They can never work at the same time. I have tried to follow this video to the letter, but still no success in getting both of the controllers to work as Player 1 and 2. Please help!
Hi ! i’m french and i would do the same project but with 4 buttons per players and and would know how do you plug your controller ( joysticks + buttons) ? have you used a external controller ? do you download any driver ? My general questions is : How can i plug on my Rpi 2 joysticks + 8 buttons for play with my friends on Retropie
I need help please I'm trying to set up my 2 c64 joystick's but none of the controls work in retroarch I have been looking everywhere over the web but no joy
hi my issus is i have two xbox one controllers and i would like to be able to switch back and forth so one can be in the charger and the other travels with me.... any ideas? thanks
How would this work with wireless xbox 360 controllers? I configured them in /RetroPie-Setup/ ./retropie_setup.sh or whatever the file was, and my first controller works fine. However, the second controller is recognized in emulation station, but not in the game. How would i get retroarch to recognize the second controller without hardcoding it?
On this page change the CONTROLLER_NUM value to equal 2 (or however many controllers you have. github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-up-the-XBox360-controller I dont use wireless controllers though so I dont have much more info.
Right now I'm trying to use a USB keyboard and a USB Xbox One controller. When I try to play a 2 player game, both inputs control player 1. What am i doing wrong?
Hey Floob, I'm running Retro Pie 2.6 ( The PiGrrl 2 image ) on my raspberry 2 to get my adafruit 2.8tft working, I don't see the " Register Retroarch Controller " option in my list, is there a file I can directly go to configure somewhere and manually edit in another USB controller?
I have An Arcade 1up Street Fighter Machine that I modded...I can set up Player 1 and Player 2 Controls easy, and they work for everything, but, I also want to use a USB Wired Xbox controller, which I can set up and it works to Navigate the Menus etc but WILL NOT WORK for any game! I have tried everything, Any Help????!!!!
Thanks for the video - I've gone through the steps and RetroArch picks up (and displays yellow text) on NES, GB, and a few others. However when running either SNES emulator or Genesis, I do not get the yellow text display. It seems like RetroArch isn't functioning here. Any advice as to why it would work in some emulators but not all? I'm using the 2.4.1 image. Thank you!
It could be worth checking you are using a RetroArch emulator for SNES - you can see the commands here /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg The RetroArch folder for SNES is /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/snes (as opposed to the snes variants)
It should be, as long as they button is detected it can be set as a hotkey. You set any one single button to enable hotkeys, then any other single key to act as a given hotkey. More details in the hotkey video. th-cam.com/video/DBnKFRflEV4/w-d-xo.html
Hi Floob Quick question regarding retroarch.cfg on RetroPie 3.6, I built a 2 player bartop arcade and I'm using Xin-Mo joystick and buttons on a usb control board. First problem I have upon first setup was only one gamepad was detected but when I configured gamepad 1 it didn't create a config file, sudo nano retroarch.cfg is empty? I downloaded a custom kernel and now emulation station sees 2 gamepads but only lets me configure 1, because no retroarch.cfg file was created I cannot configure gamepad 2 manually. Any ideas on this or do you have a video showing how to setup 2 players on the usb control board? Thanks for your help
Floob thanks. I kinda got to that point but don't know exactly what to write. I commented on a thread with someone having the same question on pet rock and have no answers yet.
I am trying to make an arcade cabinet. I am using 2 joysticks and 12 buttons (not counting P1 and P2 start). They share a USB cable. Can I map them to different players?
+BlueCreeperBoy12 Sure, it shouldnt be an issue. Are you using a Xin-Mo? This is the one I sued, although its just one player: th-cam.com/video/Q4sdwWoQlD0/w-d-xo.html
+BlueCreeperBoy12 Its often easiest to use a RetroArch based emulator as the config is pretty flexible. See the retroarch mame (marked as lr-)based ones here: github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs
Thank you very much for this video, I have a question: my SNES emulator doesnt play nice with the SNES/USB controler i bought. the buttons work fine while on the SE main screen but when i fire up a ROM in SNES the buttons dont seem to map. i registered the remote and follow all the instructions for auto detect but just doesnt work. do you have a tutorial on how to manually map the buttons for just a single emulator? (SNES in my case) Thank you!
Hi Floob, your videos are truly helpful. Thanks. How can I configure to use a specific controller per emulator. I want to use my Controlblock SNES controllers for SNES etc but my Xbox 360 controller for Ports & PSX. Could you please help me? Thanks again.
+Floob no worries. thanks for your reply. seems to be a difficult system hopefully it'll sort out soon. can't wait to make the most from my arcade machine
so i just bought a controller and the raspberry pie. I'm planning on having a setup like yours but I have a questions. Is there and input lag at all between the usb controller and the television?. also is there and frame issues? I'm planning on getting about 15 NES games and 10 SNES games and about 10 random other games from other systems... is this too much?
I've not measured it too accurately, but if you overclock your Pi and dont use intensive shaders, the 2D games run pretty well, and I havent noticed any lag myself unless there is a hell of a lot going on at once. Most people load up thousands of roms on this setup - that amount of roms on the system wont affect how responsive a specific game is to play.
John Smith I have seen some lag on Doom for SNES but other than that, my games run well. I have for 500+ games on my pi and that doesn't affect its performance.
After I am finished setting up my system the way I want and I want to set up another system can I just copy the RetroPie image from this SDHC to the other and not have to set up the second?
Kevin Brennan Hi Kevin. Yes, that should work, although if the new SD card is the same size (or smaller) as the original, you may need to do this:smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=58
Thank you so much for the videos. I'm trying to set up two snes controllers like you got. My problem is, when I click to set up my controllers using RetroAch it bypasses the button configuration screen and goes straight to saying my controller will now be remembered. But my controllers do not work. Do you know I am doing wrong. Thanks
I imagine either you are running RetroPie 2.3 (2.4.2 is fine) and updated the scripts - the fix is here: blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/error-with-retropie-setup-scripts/ Or you are running EmulationStation in the background when you remotely connect to the Pi - just make sure it isnt running.
Floob could you do the USB configuration for Xin Mo USB controller for 2 joysticks? Im using Retropie Ver 3 Beta 4. The Player 1 works but I cannot get the Joystick 2 (Player 2) to work. Many thanks!
+Jamie Stocker You guys have any luck? I just got mine to work. Installed a fresh image of Retropie 3.1, updated the cmmndline.txt file with a usbquirk (one of the fixs listed on the petrockblog forum), and installed a modified kernel (also off the petrockblog forum). Got two joysticks connected and recognized, now Im on to the struggles of mapping them for the individual roms and emulators
+Brendan Kidder hey brendan, i cant find the kernel file any where, can you please upload the file?

Hi! And how to map keyboard key to arcade button? I'm talking about INSERT COIN button in Mame. Default insert coin is key '6' on the keyboard. And i want it to map on the button on the control panel. Another thing - i'd like to map side 'flipper' buttons in Amiga emulator to play pinball dreams - default keys are shift for left flipper and rshift for right flipper. I want them on my side buttons of arcade cabinet - how to map them? plz, help, because i can't find the answer for 6 days of googling... :)

Great, Thanks! Do You happen to know how to map keyboard to buttons in Retropie's Amiga emulator? I love Pinball Dreams and want to play it with my arcade's side buttons...
Floob, I did what you said in the video, but when I start to play SNES - SuperBomberman 4 - only 2 of the 4 controllers are 'detected'. Can you help me out?
lr-snes9x-next. - I used the command: {input_libretro_device_p2 = “257”} into the SuperBomberman 4 ROM config and it worked, but SuperBomberman 5 didn't.
Hi Floob, I'm running Retropie 3.6. All I want to do is setup my iPAC2 (Basically a keyboard controller) to run 2 player on all the console emulators, so far only player 1 works. FYI I get a message coming up saying 'Ultimarc IPAC 2 (53769/1056) not configured' every time I start a game. I have a classic arcade setup with two joysticks and 16 buttons. Really appreciate some help on this, it's driving me insane!
+Tim Watson I'm afraid I dont have one to test with. Does each player produce different keys when used, so player 1 left is different to player 2 left? You could edit the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg directly
I've been having some issues, I bought 2 of the same SNES USB controller. I run the Retroarch set-up utility on them. 0=X, 1=A, 2=B, 3= Y 4=L Setup.... If I try this in 2.6 I get both controllers seen and work, but none of the buttons on player 2 work if I don't also hold a button on player 1 in game. (Making 2 player games useless) If I try this in 3.0 I get both controllers to be detected automatically, but then it doesn't see the X & Y buttons in emulator even though set-up and the menu can find the buttons just fine. (can't run in Super Mario World) I'd hate to just go buy some NES controllers and delete my SNES & PS1 games, but I'm almost at the point where I'm considering that a viable option...
novamaster0 Have you run the setup utility in RetroPie 3.0? This may help:blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/retropie-3-beta-2-issue-unable-to-configure-retroarch-controller/ If you just plug one controller in, is that fine?
Hi, I followed this guide but only 2 of my 4 controllers are being picked up in game. I have 4 identical snes usb controllers that are being recognised in emulation station but only 2 in game - specifically snes. I.E super bomberman 5. Any idea what the problem is? They are all hard coded in retroarch.cfg using the same button set.
Floob No luck, when I start a game the yellow writing at the bottom lists all controllers 0 - 3. But it's just in game they will not work! Just to be sure by the way, which folder should snes roms be going in to? Because that affects the emulator that is used right?
I am attempting to setup my Xin-Mo arcade sticks via the "Register RetroArch controller" and when I move the arcade stick it inputs 2-3 times with one movement. I was curious to whether anyone else has experienced this. Thank you for your time!
+Derek Henry having problems with it detecting two joysticks the action gets mirrored and my retroarch file is fine and works on emulationstation but when I fire up a game it all commands go on one button
Hello I have been watching your youtube vids on setting up my retro pi B. I NEED HELP PLEASEEEE. I bought xin-mo dual arcade stick that uses a single PCB board i have built into it. Now i set up the maping on retropi and seems to work correctly (minus that i still have to figure out how to get second player to work) but for some reason when i turn an emulator on the mapping is crazy on each one. Example, on final burn and my buttons are in reverse even do on retro pi menu it works fine, on SNES emulator directions work and only 4 buttons work but not the buttons set to shoulder pads. im going crazy. Any help would be so appreciated.
+Jose Hernandez This should help setup the second player: github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Troubles-with-the-Xin-Mo-Controller It also has useful links there.
+Floob hey, i have been triying over and over again to no avail here triying to get the Xin mo to work properly. My wife who knows coding has even tried helping but we are stumped sir. i connected the controllers to my laptop and it works fine. We just cant get it to work on retropi. And i see a ton of other people having the same issue. I think it be awesome if you made a vid on how to set these thing up cause im just about giving up on this.
I was able to get it to work sir. My wife remotely connected to the pi and placed sometime of file that allowed it to understand the PCB board. Question. I saw a new update for retro pi, if I update it, will it erase all my settings and games I already have set on retro pi?
For some reason when I press enter to the "Register Retroarch Controller" then press enter on the next screen saying that only my 2 controllers are plugged in, it skips the whole process of having to click the buttons on the controller. It just says "The configuration file has been saved as .cfg .... and so on" I am not sure why this is happening and hopefully someone here can help me.
Does anybody know how to actually get rid of the Yellow Text that informs you of which controllers have been detected when you boot into a ROM? I've got a completely quiet system with no other text except for this one particular line, it would be nice to have it not appear if that's possible. Thanks in advanced. (On 4.1)
Thank you kindly for the swift response! I feel another donation is in order for your customer service and not just the joyous hours of silent children that RetroPie has bought me. Thanks again!
Great video. I'm having an issue with two retrolink usb controllers (USB N64 controllers); basically most buttons work except on one controller, the the down button goes down and "fires" at the same time. On the other it works fine. The setup process produced the following file opt/retropie/emulators/RetroArch/configs/GenericUSBJoystick.cfg Since I ran the process before watching this video twice from the command line by specifying the device, how can I reset the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file so that it defaults to the standard so that I do not have. Also any idea how to get the analogue controller configuered since the config does not ask to set it up Thanks so much for this and the great video

Hi Floob
Quick question regarding retroarch.cfg on RetroPie 3.6, I built a 2 player bartop arcade and I'm using Xin-Mo joystick and buttons on a usb control board.

You could edit the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg directly
how can I configure 2 joysticks running on 1 encoder
I've been having some issues, I bought 2 of the same SNES USB controller. I run the Retroarch set-up utility on them. 0=X, 1=A, 2=B, 3= Y 4=L Setup....
If I try this in 2.6 I get both controllers seen and work, but none of the buttons on player 2 work if I don't also hold a button on player 1 in game. (Making 2 player games useless)
If I try this in 3.0 I get both controllers to be detected automatically, but then it doesn't see the X & Y buttons in emulator even though set-up and the menu can find the buttons just fine. (can't run in Super Mario World)
I'd hate to just go buy some NES controllers and delete my SNES & PS1 games, but I'm almost at the point where I'm considering that a viable option...
novamaster0 Have you run the setup utility in RetroPie 3.0? This may help:blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/retropie-3-beta-2-issue-unable-to-configure-retroarch-controller/
If you just plug one controller in, is that fine?
Is it possible to have a wired ps3 controller and a wireless one at the same time? Thanks for your videos helped a lot to setup the remotes
Jose Abelardo Martinez Riojas Yes, I dont see why not. They should both get autodetected if the ps3 bluetooth part is installed.
This may help check each individual joypad: github.com/petrockblog/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Setting-up-the-XBox360-controller#retropie-configuration
Floob No luck, when I start a game the yellow writing at the bottom lists all controllers 0 - 3. But it's just in game they will not work! Just to be sure by the way, which folder should snes roms be going in to? Because that affects the emulator that is used right?
calneideck You can double check the correct rom folder by looking at /etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg
Floob Yeah, it's just that there are 3 for snes, regardless, I've tried all of them and still no 3-4 players.
calneideck The retroarch one is the roms/snes folder. I'll fish out some controllers and give 3 a go.
I am attempting to setup my Xin-Mo arcade sticks via the "Register RetroArch controller" and when I move the arcade stick it inputs 2-3 times with one movement. I was curious to whether anyone else has experienced this. Thank you for your time!
did you solve this having this problem to
Yes. Are you having the same issue?
+Jose Hernandez This should help setup the second player: github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Troubles-with-the-Xin-Mo-Controller
It also has useful links there.
+Jose Hernandez Thank you very much. DO i do this first and then setup the mapping in retroark as normal?
+Floob hey, i have been triying over and over again to no avail here triying to
get the Xin mo to work properly. My wife who knows coding has even
tried helping but we are stumped sir. i connected the controllers to my
laptop and it works fine. We just cant get it to work on retropi. And i
see a ton of other people having the same issue. I think it be awesome
if you made a vid on how to set these thing up cause im just about
giving up on this.
+josehernandez34 I'm afraid I dont have one to try with. This thread should help: blog.petrockblock.com/forums/topic/autofire-on-the-axis/
They are the iBuffalo snes controllers btw
Zimm Most probably this:

Floob thanks for the reply! I do believe I updated the script. But I will try to do it without ES running. I might consider going to 2.4
Does anybody know how to actually get rid of the Yellow Text that informs you of which controllers have been detected when you boot into a ROM? I've got a completely quiet system with no other text except for this one particular line, it would be nice to have it not appear if that's possible.
Thanks in advanced. (On 4.1)
Change this line in the /retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file
# video_font_enable = true
Thank you kindly for the swift response! I feel another donation is in order for your customer service and not just the joyous hours of silent children that RetroPie has bought me.
Thanks again!
do you have to use WiFi for this? or could you just have a keyboard plunged in to your Pi Zero, and the controller that you want to setup?
No, no need for WiFi - thats only if you dont want to use the TV screen directly for configuring.
Floob ya, but you said to make sure only the controller that you are configuring is plugged in. will it still work with the controller and a keyboard?
Yep, that should be no problem.
How can I use wifi to configure my settings?
Half this stuff won't work on mine. And how do I do it for actual arcade sticks and buttons?
You can find the keyboard mappings in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
How can i do that in recalbox?
Great video. I'm having an issue with two retrolink usb controllers (USB N64 controllers); basically most buttons work except on one controller, the the down button goes down and "fires" at the same time. On the other it works fine.
The setup process produced the following file opt/retropie/emulators/RetroArch/configs/GenericUSBJoystick.cfg
Since I ran the process before watching this video twice from the command line by specifying the device, how can I reset the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg file so that it defaults to the standard so that I do not have.
Also any idea how to get the analogue controller configuered since the config does not ask to set it up
Thanks so much for this and the great video
If you post up here, I can send you some files:

Up to 4 players, I want to put 4 original N64 controller.
Do you have a config for that !?
Sorry, I'll have to get hold of some N64 controllers to test
Floob But technically, do you think this is going to work ?
Can you put this into notepad for us
Wow, this is a lot of info! Does anyone have a tl;dr?!
Hey man, I'm sorry because I have not good English
How to I use Retropie emulator with 2 controllers?

+jorisdegame BOSS Hi. There is some info here: smartretro.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=44&p=174&hilit=ipac#p174 and also on the RetroPie forums.
Floob thanks
