Thank you so much!! Can't believe a 4 years old video saved me from crazyness!! I was battling against a ready made raspberry arcade image, controllers were not working in-game. After full reset and remapping, they work perfectly with all emulators! You made my day, thanks again
Thanks bro it worked for me you don’t know how many video I looked at and they didn’t mention to reboot like you did and you made it look easy compare to those others you got me to subscribe looking forward to checking out your other ones
So I reset the configuration again, disabled the Autoconfiguration, disconnected everything except controller 1, and rebooted. I was then able to set that controller as 1, plug in the second and configure it, and finally, plug in my keyboard. Earlier I had to keep my keyboard plugged in because I had to log in, but I figured out how to disable that. I have a lot to learn still!
Hey I know this vid is old but I need help when I go to bind all for the player two part and complete it, player one side stops working.. can u please help me
Everything worked GREAT until I updated my raspberry software. Now im stuck on no gamepads detected and i tried 2 different usb super nintendo controllers, keyboard, usb bluetooth to xbox 1 controller and I get nothing. im stuck on the no gamepads detected screen. Do you got any clue how I can fix this?
"The Easy Way" , very funny! Thats waaaaay better than having a simple menu option to perform a common task! Too bad we can't do it by tapping out Morse Code on a piece of quartz.
The video helped a lot, someone on a FB group suggested it. I still have no quit/load/save buttons sadly, so cant quit games and have to turn the system off :( also the second set of controls are all over the place :/ my set up is pretty much the same as yours except i have side paddles and P1 and P2 buttons on the front and a 1up button to the side of P1 and P2 so have 18 in total. i want to set the paddle buttons as load and save.
Hey Jay, what do we have to do with the Neo Geo Emulator. I get the games working but the arcade sticks and buttons don't work. Can you help me out, thanks
The easy way would be to delete a file of some kind. Which one, I have no idea. I have accidentally mapped buttons in retroarch that now make navigating menus impossible. I need to delete a config file somewhere, but I cant find any useful source to help me!
Is the hotkey supposed to be the back key? Because in addition to the game buttons I have a coin button, a player select button (start), and a button for back.
I use select button for hotkey u should be able to use that button still to add credits when playing on mame, hotkey is to be used with another button say for instance u want to quit the game press select button aka hotkey and start button simultaneously
Here's my problem only have 1ps3controller plugged in .doesn't matter witch 1 of the 2 usb ports I use retropie is detecting 2 controllers and will not let my assign controller to player 1 all was assigns it to player 2????
Cool video! If I keep finding these kinds of videos, one day I hope to understand Retropie! ;) Isn't Retropie loaded with preset maps for common controllers? I always seem to have to set them as you did. I was kind of hoping that clearing all custom settings would restore the defaults. Is there a way to have Retropie automatically set up a controller?
Doesn't work for me. I have two controllers, only one is recognized. I've tried your Bind All thing, didn't work. Factory reset controllers doesn't work. The first part where you reset controllers in Retropie setup doesn't work. I can't figure out why the 2nd controller doesn't find the usb dongle in the raspberry pi. It worked before. Oh well.
Please don’t unplug and plug back in your Pi to reboot it. SDCards are don’t like that and you may end up with a wiped card. Instead just use the reboot option in the menu.
Can someone help me? I have a bunch of emulators on my bartop arcade (snes, sega, etc), and all the buttons and joystick works on all the emulators but the "arcade" emulator. The buttons work on the "arcade" emulator but the joystick does not. Any recommendations?
What if you’re not able to proceed on if you don’t have a “A” button to press on. I’m trying to reset it or trying to find ways to get it back to normal. Can anyone help me. I don’t know what to do
Thank you, this helped extremely well.... (edit) i still cannot get my nes game pad to function correctly. I lose a button for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Total Pi and Retro noob here, so bear with me. Added some games to test and all seemed well. Go in to play them and the controls are wonky. Left makes me go right. AB XY Sel Start not working. I went into emulation station and config/tools and did a reset but still the issue persists. Also controller doesn't work anymore once I go back to the retropie set up menu. Thanks in advance for any hints or help.
When setting up 2nd controller - user 2 save Autoconfig i get an error message in the bottom left in yellow saying (Error saving autoconfig file) please help..... Thanks
Your right how would i change the buttons just for mega drive ive messed mine up and the a button in retroarch wont work not even on the key board so i cant edit the buttons for mega drive
a real problem I cannot use my joysticks at all I have a retro pie semi arcade setup I accidentally changed the controllers trying to get sound out of it somebody help, I can't even use my controllers to reset
classic arcade setup joy stick and buttons. Whenever I configure one controller it messes up the buttons for player two and reverses the joystick controls any ideas on how to fix this.
You need both controllers to be wired the exact same way. The joystick is reversing when you reconfigure it because one of the joysticks is upside down. The wiring needs to be the same in both controllers. I hope that helps.
Mine was doing this as well. I had to unplug my USBs to both controllers, boot up then plug in player 1 and then config it. Then plug in player 2 and go to retroarch like he says and then do the bind all.

Thank you SO much! My son configured the controller and skipped all the buttons so it wouldn't work. This fixed it right up! Life saver! Thank you!
Ahahaha sorry I had to laugh at this, exactly what my son could have done 😂
Thanks for this quick fix, as it's not immediately obvious how to set up a second controller...
Thank you so much! I watched so many useless videos but this one worked perfectly!!!!!!!
Thanks man. I’ve been trying to figure this out for hours. Your video just saved my weekend! 😁
Finally someone who made it easy, thank you!
Thanks a lot! That helps me! Absolut fantastic! Better than many of the "great" TH-camrs!
You actually just helped me out so much thx man
Thank you so much for this video! It fixed everything!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
This was a big help - thanks!
Thank you so much. I am setting mine up for the first time, and my keyboard got set up as controller 1 instead of my SNES controller.
So I rebooted, and when I configured the controller I wanted as 1, it called it controller 3.

Hi there,
I have troubles with controllers. The #1 is considered as #2 and viceversa. I don't understand why.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! i know this is an old video but thank you! this is just what i needed! :) excellent
"The Easy Way" , very funny! Thats waaaaay better than having a simple menu option to perform a common task! Too bad we can't do it by tapping out Morse Code on a piece of quartz.
Thanks a lot !! Retropie r more difficult than Recalbox in my opinion
Thanks for the video! The only thing i can't figure out is how to create the save or load key shortcuts. Any insight?
Thank you much!
Wow I owe you a beer. Thank you for making a video that actually explains the proper steps to setting up a new input.
The video helped a lot, someone on a FB group suggested it. At 2:24, is "the coin button" the same one as the previously pressed "Select" button?
Hey Jay, what do we have to do with the Neo Geo Emulator. I get the games working but the arcade sticks and buttons don't work. Can you help me out, thanks
Thank you sir for the info.
Thanks for the video,very helpful
I am having problems with my controller that tonight I will try your way of resetting. I will let you know how it went, thanks!

Thank you. Liked and subbed.
I don't know why but I did the controls for both pads but for some reason when I go into a game it doesn't work

When you say that Mame control setup is different, do mean when it runs through a pc or do you mean mame emulators on a pi?

Same thing has been happening to me. Did you ever figure out the problem?
For the Joysticks you need to spin them 180 degrees.
Thanks for the how to.
Hello after doing this it won't boot up anymore its just black screening me can you help please
Nice, thanks.
I unassigned my buttons accidentally and can't get back into configuration
When setting up 2nd controller - user 2 save Autoconfig i get an error message in the bottom left in yellow saying (Error saving autoconfig file) please help.....
Thanks
Good guide but that not erase the core override configuration
Your right how would i change the buttons just for mega drive ive messed mine up and the a button in retroarch wont work not even on the key board so i cant edit the buttons for mega drive
xhiltonx Press start on the home screen then configure input, u could try rebooting it then hopefully it will recognise the controller
Any info / videos on how to do it for Mame?
a real problem I cannot use my joysticks at all I have a retro pie semi arcade setup I accidentally changed the controllers trying to get sound out of it somebody help, I can't even use my controllers to reset
Help. Mine won’t save and the buttons are all over the place.
how do you set up mame so you can steer a friggen car or play crazy climers or robatron ? on same bartop :(
Can you tell me how to map the controls for neogeo in retropie?
those are some bright buttons
Why do this with the phone UPRIGHT? Sideways, always sideways! Your explanation is clear, but difficult to watch
THANKS MAN
my brother entered controls as a keyboard and didn’t write anything down so
Thanks!
classic arcade setup joy stick and buttons.
Thank you I managed to fix it
why does configuring a few buttons have to be such a complex conundrum? losing hope over here
cheers bigears
I can't select anything! My controller won't let me select anything! How do i reset controller settings if I can't select anything?
i have the same problem the only function that works is up on my joy stick did u figure it out
Thanks👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Now it keeps asking me to reconfig the controllers each time I restart what I do ?
Save configuration on exit😂😂
Any way you could send the files of the games
Okay I just did this and as soon as I exited to back to the game selection screen... Nothing works... Either controller.. Ugh
Well it whipes your controller settings
He restarted his pie afterwards. Once you do that, you should be met with an option to config player one’s controls.
@@djb1ge it keeps asking me to reconfig now each time I start the box
nofeartn Save configuration on exit that should fix the problem
Did this and now it wants me to setup the controller every time raspberry is reset.
RIGHT?!
Saving controls should be "EASY"!!
I have the same issue, it makes me setup the controllers everytime I start up now. Also it freezes anytime I leave a game.
@@justinspeacht5593 same here what we do ?
Try saving the configuration on exit, make sure it says ON
Does anyone know how to remap mame controls if the tab button doesnt work ? Got a image and the buttons dont work haha n tab doesnt work
try holding the hotkey while hitting tab, or try hotkey + f1
