I bought my Thruxton about two months ago, absolutley love it. I have had many bikes over the 60 years that I havd been riding , and this is probably the best one. Every time that I ride it it takes me back to my youthful cafe racer days.
I HAVE A SILVER FIRST YEAR EFI, AND LOVE IT , ALWAYS HAVE PEOPLE WAITING TO TALK TO ME WHEN I PARK THE BIKE ! I HAVE ADDED "NOLOGY " COILS AND WIRES , AND LOVE THE STRONGER ENGINE POWER, SO MUCH I DROPPED THREE THEETH ON REAR SPROCKET FOR LOWER RPM AND MORE TOP END ,FIFTH GEAR NOW LIKE OVERDRIVE ! ! I HAVE "TRACK DAY PIPES " WHAT A SOUND ! !
Forgot to mention , 49000 miles and never missed a beat . Only mods progressive rear shocks , oxygen things removed , exhaust and K+N filter. New paint 1959 triumph T100 silvery blue with hand painted stripes . Looks great . Cheers from NZ
Great video. I was gifted the 2018 model Thruxton R by my wife for Xmas that year and I have to admit that brought a tear to my eye. Other guys wives hate my wife for what she did, LOL, making their lives hell. I have pretty much done the same mods but am yet to do a de-cat to go with my V&H pipes. Have done three track days so far under the tutelage of my ex MotoGP, ex WSBK and three times Australian champ rider son, and it gets better each time. Nowhere as quick as his Kawasaki superbike but more fun for an old fellow to ride. Not had any issue with corrosion but also never ridden it in the wet. This is an on-going love affair. First rode one when a motorcycle journalist friend threw me the keys to his Triumph loan bike in the same silver as yours, and I was immediately besotted, but to giver it an Aussie twist I fell for the Green with the gold suspenders. Wife must have seen the lust in my eyes when I returned after a truly fun day out in the hills of Victoria (Australia) for her to go out and secretly buy me one. This bike will never get sold. Any recommendation for the best cat' eliminator would be appreciated.
It is still one of the most beautiful motorcycles on the road... that same one with the black rims is a delight... nice machine and good man... greetings from Spain.
Just picked up the FE and I love it. Haven't made up my mind on Mods yet. I'd really like to put a center stand on it but I'm having a hard time finding one. I also have the fairing and it's beautiful
When I first rode the R two thoughts came to mind: 1) I really like this motorcycle. 2) Can’t wait to buy one from a loving owner after it’s been fully farkled. Thing is . . . . I’m still waiting!
I almost bought thruxton 900 my paper work was all done ...but shit unfortunately they need another document which I don't have ...but anyway bought a Brixton n a BINELLI you know what this my dream bike in the world ...take a good care of the bike mate. 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
Had mine since new. ridden in all weathers and UK winters. done about 14,000m on it so far. Had 2 issues with the wiring and needed a whole new harness so definitely happens. Apart from that no problems apart from the engine case corroding) and love it. Will never sell it
I have a 17 silver Thruxton r with the fairing also. Ran into trouble with a headlight and turn signals not working as well as the heated grips. Triumph ended up installing a whole new wiring harness which has solved that problem. I've owned mine 3 years now and it's still a thrill just to look at it much less ride it. I get many comments on this fantastic bike which only sees sunny roads (have a cbr500r-a for my everyday bike). Triumph hit this one out of the park. Makes me smile to look at it as well as ride it. Suspect it always will.
No wiring or any other issues with my 2017 Thruxton R and thoroughly enjoy the riding experience. I did upgrade the front brake master cylinder to a Brembo RCS unit and that significantly improved brake performance and feel.
Nice - I have to go out and polish all those engine covers now on mine now. I am sure that once you keep on top of the corrosion issues this bike will be an appreciating asset in a few years. Sadly many owners are not doing the polishing on them. ACF 50 is great to keep them in shape but they also need the occasional chrome polish. The black covers would ruin and devalue the bike in my opinion.
I had the entire wiring harness changed on my Thunderbird, dealer said it's the first one they've ever had to do on a Triumph, so I don't think it's very common either. Beautiful bike you have there,
Great video. Two questions. 1. Do you have your clip on handlebars on the original high setting with the fairing and does it work ok with them kept on the high setting? 2. would that fairing fit a speed twin if I wanted to convert one to a cafe racer style?
The 1200 engines in the Thruxton and Speed Twin are as good as it gets for road use....masses of torque from the off,to the rev limiter, with perfect delivery, sound and looks...(OK,an aftermarket exhaust system adds to the visual and sonic pleasure, plus a little weight reduction),but hard to improve on what's available straight from the Triumph showroom floor. Love my Speed Twin!
Love the video. I have exactly the same with same mods. You said it best... every time you ride it’s just as thrilling and satisfying as the first. I did find a tail tidy that I think is the best. I’d love to share pics with you. Can you let me know how to send pics to you. All the best. Don in Vegas
Hi, first of all what a beauty, good job. I heard you talking about the tail tidy, what do you think about the Rizoma version? I'm looking for one myself. Thanks and Greetings
Thanks for the video - great summary and as an owner myself I agree wholeheartedly with your summary and comments. One thing I have struggled with is finding a decent paddock stand that is easy to use single handed. I wondered what make and model you are using and how you find it to use single handed. Would you recommend it to others owners ?.
@@zackdreamcast Thanks for the info. Indeed I did purchase a pit bull paddock stand and it has proved to be the solution I was looking for. Easy to use single handed - perfect - if a little pricey.
I have the same bike with the dual seat aswell, it literally 1 min of a job. Put your key in the side to unlock underneath the seat and then snap the other seat in to place. Simples.
I've had my silver Thruxton R (same as yours except with lower clip-ons ) for nearly 3 years and 40,000km. Love the bike. Love riding it, love looking at it. I had a 2005 Thruxton before and enjoyed it but the R is in a different league! I also had to get a new harness. It's a fairly common problem. Apparently the harness is a little short and after a while the wiring kinks and breaks. It started when my blinkers and heated grips stopped working . Twice repaired at my local dealer then harness replacement under warranty. Apart from that, ultra reliable. I'll keep it till I can't ride anymore. Enjoy yours. Looks great!
i had my signal lights cable snap too! lucky my workshop was able to find that snapped cable and fix it (so i don't have to replace the whole harness). didn't know it's such a common problem.
Ive had one for 2 weeks and I would sell it right now . Its gutless. Its got fuck all torque. Anyonevwho thinks this bike has power must have come off a 250 . Its a docile moderate performing machine , thays it. Its yet another crap Triumph twin just like the underwhelming 900 and the 1600. If i could get my $18000 back I would sell it.

Just placed an order to buy the new 2023 Green Competition one. Can’t wait to get it but will need to wait 3 months! Cheers from Spain

Beautiful bike, but I would suggest removing the fork reflector' s for a even better look.

Brown seat - outstanding choice! Excellent review.
Gorgeous bike and I really get the sense of how much you love your bike after 3 years. Thanks for the share.

Thanks....I feel the same way about mine. Really don't like the rear fender, but, like you, can't find an aftermarket that I like enough to pop for.

super happy with my red thurxie too. this really is a bike that'll hold its look for a very long time. great video, thanks for sharing!

Gorgeous bike, I am so jealous. I have to get a triumph 1200 twin and start customising it. What a nice bike you have.
Yep, absolutely love mine which I have in very similar spec.
thanks for the review. I am hoping my 3rd bike will be a Thruxton.

Great video dude! Awesome bike! Really considering getting one as my first bike.
Nothing wrong with buying a bike just because it's pretty and gives you tinglies in certain parts of your body.
Good review. I love mine. I don't like the R because of the gold color but it's still a great bike. I'm never getting rid of mine.
Had my comp green r for 6mnths now, love this thing.
Bought my comp green w/fairing last summer, absolutely love it! Most beautiful bike ever!
@@letsgoshootin3814 AMEN
I LOVED IM BUY ONE IN COUPLE MONTHS YOU HAVE BEAUTIFUL BIKE SR 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just bought one. 1200R Green :-)
Hope you added a power commander. If you use a decat without a PC there is a real chance of doing permanent damage to the engine.
Love the video. I have exactly the same with same mods. You said it best... every time you ride it’s just as thrilling and satisfying as the first. I did find a tail tidy that I think is the best. Beautiful
That looks one handsome bike, mate. I'm thinking of getting either the new Thruxton RS or 1200 Scrambler.
better try one yourself to see if you like the riding position.
Get your covers coated to protect them! Beautiful bike btw :)
Phenomenal video! Stunning bike!
really nice retro looking cafe racer bike !
Hi, first of all what a beauty, good job. I heard you talking about the tail tidy, what do you think about the Rizoma version? I'm looking for one myself. Thanks and Greetings
Have there been any changes of note to the Thruxton R over the last 5 years? Checking out a basically new 2016…
Nice bike! But what about comfort? I got lower back issues, any concern?

Get a pit bull stand. You’ll thank me later

@@johnhudson1692 it is indeed pricer than so many otherbut it’s the best out there and is bulletproof.
hello how do you clean those engine covers? and what oil do you apply to preserve them?
do you still own it? beatifull bike
Thanks for sharing. I just order one, same silver color. Can you share how quick to install the dual seat? Thanks a lot.
I have the same bike with the dual seat aswell, it literally 1 min of a job. Put your key in the side to unlock underneath the seat and then snap the other seat in to place. Simples.
Powdercoat the wheels engine covers and carb/injector side cap
you will be wrapped with the transformation

Did you know that you can now get a Supercharger for it. 171 HP and 175 Nm.
I like the "bare" aluminum engine. Keep it.
Did u have them install the lower clip-ons, or keep the stock ones? I've heard the stock ones will still clear the fairing
Stock still clear fairing, lower ones are too low for me.
Can you please tell me about the ground clearance of this bike ,tha ks in advance
why did you start the bike so we can hear the Vance and Hines?
What is the mileage on your bike so far?
Hello original miroir ?
Merci
So did you keep it?
Do you ever feel issues re wind shear on open freeways?
Anthony Jaswinski fairing isn’t great unless you full tuck but I didn’t care as a I rode cruiser before
Long winded over extended explanations of everything and all ya need is the ignition key to change the seat and he stacks them. Nit pickin just Sayin.
I wouldn't want the bike w/o the front faring. It's sets the bike off
