  • This video shows the process of swapping the lowered race kit clip-ons on my Triumph Thruxton R to the standard taller clip-ons by dropping the forks rather than taking the top yoke off.

    G'day Mate, I subscribed from Australia last week because I liked your ownership view of the 790, as I'm buying one this week and funny enough I want to almost do the opposite of what you did to your thruxton to the duke. I've yet to fully convert from sports bikes to naked so I'm planning to put a clip on kit on the 790 so its a less upright riding position. lol

    Nice video, I have the lower clip ons on my TTR and thinking of putting the cafe fairing on and the original clip-ons back on at the same time. I recall that I did notice a big drop in comfort going from the original to the lower bars so would imagine going back would be much more comfortable. I am worried about the look of the higher clip-ons with the fairing, however. I only do short trips but more comfort is never a bad thing! Do you think the higher bars are noticeable from the appearance point of view?

      Be aware that to bleed the entire system you may need the workshop to plug in a tool as they need to cycle the ABS valves (Thruxton R). Bleeding the calipers doesn't require this but the whole system does to do it properly according to the workshop manual.

    Hello there, thanks for posting this video. As you rightly said the bike is comfortable for an hour or so. It’s not comfortable for long hauls. Did the change of clip ons help? Where can I buy the clip ons. I have 2017 TTR and live in the US. Thanks a lot

    • @TheBoltHoleBiker
      @TheBoltHoleBiker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, yes, for me the higher clip ons have made a big difference, I could definitely do longer rides on it now - in fact I was on it for about 3 hours yesterday and it was completely comfortable. Apart from the usual eBay or Triumph dealers I wouldn't know where to get them from. The ones that I had I got from the guy that I bought the bike from, so I didn't have to try and source them from anywhere. They are the standard brackets that triumph supply the bikes with though, they're not an after market part. Definitely worth doing though if you can get some. Ride safe.

      Thanks a ton. I have the original one that I got with the bike. My dealer said they won’t fit them when I put the cafe racer kit. Worth mentioning it to them and show your video may be. Thanks a lot for your quick response. Appreciate it. Ride safe and will look out for more videos in the future.

    • @TheBoltHoleBiker
      @TheBoltHoleBiker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting that Triumph won't do it. I know that they are all part and parcel of the cafe racer kit, but it doesn't cause any practical issues with the bike - they fit under the fairing etc. Worst case scenario, if they really dig their heels in and won't do it, it isn't that bad a job to do it yourself. The two biggest issues for me when I did it were supporting the front of the bike, but luckily I had a girder in the garage to strap it from, and threading the heated grip cables through the clip on brackets to get them off and the new ones on, but they did go, it was just tight! Other than that it was pretty easy. Anyway good luck with it, let me know how it goes.

    • @TheBoltHoleBiker
      @TheBoltHoleBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only have a rear paddock stand, but I am luck in that there is a steel girder in my garage right above where I work on my bikes, so I generally strap the front end of the bike to that with ratchet straps and lift the whole front end of the bike. Short of making some form of frame from timber etc. then you will have to get a paddock stand that fits your bike, or, depending on what bike it is, you might be able to use a platform bike lift that sits under the engine, dirt bike style.

I think it is mostly because I have been doing the mods to it and during lockdown hardly got the chance to ride, but fear not, Camille will be featuring more regularly now we are allowed back out again! I am still very happy that I put the taller clip on brackets on, I think that if it had a more aggressive riding position I would be tempted to ride it less because of comfort. When I am out for a ride it is often all day, so comfort is a bit of an issue.
