I purchased a Standard Thruxton 1200 a few years ago, to say it is fabulous is simply not enough. 57 years of riding I have seen the evolution of bikes from the 60s to present, never has there been a bike like this.
Triumph is my absolute favorite brand of motorcycles. All the bikes are amazing and have such little details that make you want to keep touching and looking at them. The specific chapter of these bikes is the sound of the exhaust. To my ears it is a beautiful orchestral melody. Phenomenal! Thanks for the review, guys.
I've been riding for 55 yrs. ,raced MX, and endurance road racing, was a Suzuki factory rep. The only 2 riding "modes" I know about are engine on and engine off. You gents are great! Keep it up.
Just picked up a 2018 Thruxton R - in the handful of miles I've been able to do with lockdown and the weather I'm absolutely blown away by it, it just seems to do everything! Also, she's definitely a head turner - if you don't want people staring at you or comments at the fuel station maybe give this line up a miss... it makes you feel like a celebrity!
I really love my RS. I use it for touring and did a 4000 km trip to southern France. Riding position is very good with the high clip on’s, no stress on your hands. As said here the handling is quick and precise. Öhlins schocks and Showa fork is excellent. Engine is indeed powerful and with a nice tone. In Sweden where I live it’s popular to replace the silencers to an open system, but I don’t think that’s necessary. Thanks for a good review 😊👍🏻
I test rode this bike a couple years ago when I had a little less horsepower. It was a great bike it had the full fairing, which actually brings the bars a little lower. I ended up buying something else but I would not hesitate to buy this bike!
Great unbiased revue. I bought a Thruxton RS in 2021 and coming from riding sport bikes for the last 20 years, I hated it at first. It is now growing on me. At 6ft 2" I feel a little large for the bike, but still very comfortable.
I’ve subbed and turned on the bell purely because you are still posting bike reviews. Most other bike reviewers have stopped almost as though they’re not key workers. You’re key workers to us, keep em coming. 👍🏻
I'm 6'3" and didn't find the Thruxton cramped at all. You feel a bit over the front and the engine has great low rev torque. It wasn't the RS, but the geometry is the same. Add the optional front cowling for $1k and it becomes even more sexy. Classic Clocks...I hate modes too. Just give me TC & ABS that I can choose on/off with a simple toggle switches. Nailing it around corners is really fun, at least on my test ride I was contemplating trading right then and there. Thanks for the awesome review as always! Cheers!!!
Have the 900 its very fun. I'm 6foot 1inch. Have clubman bars it fit after adjusting bars levers etc. Can cafe race all day. Hagen shocks progressive springs up front. K&N air fliters and brit custom silencers that sing . I will keep it 😊
I owned the 2017 first gen 'R' version. Its beautiful, fast and quality top notch and sounds amazing. First gen had some issues, mostly on the brakes, the initial bite was sort of off, you had to do a double push on the lever to get the breaks to go hard. Traction control also mudded the experience for me. Sold it in 2019 because the position was way too committed and my right shoulder hurt a lot due to a previous accident, plus some other personal issues. But until now, I think it is the most refined bike I ever had. That RS looks is even more powerful, wish I was 10 years younger to be able to enjoy it.
A fantastic review, recently ridden with the Thruxton , fun from the first meter. And everything is of a huge build quality. Many greetings from Belgium fellow Triumph fanatics
Perfect timing for this video, I'm thinking about to order one the next days. But can't decide with the color 🥺. Now I think the jet black one looks more classic Great videos thx.
I've decided i'm buying one of these. It looks almost perfect! Needs a tailtidy, some smaller indicators and a nice set of pipes 😁 Can't decide between the Silver/green and this one though. Nice review guys, i love all your reviews! Comprehensive, Simple and clear ! Really gives you a feel for the bike.
Brilliant review. Just picked up an R. More than enough. Please coming from a R1100S and 22 years old. Going to the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in 4 days where I’ll have the chance to rub greasy elbows with the like kind. Thanks gentlemen- cheers. Lovely bike indeed.
The modes are still silly. I own a Thruxton. It boots up in Road mode and that's fine. The bike has traction control, so if the tire slips it will kill power to it even if it's in Sport mode. Once in a while, if I think about it, I'll switch to Sport mode in hot weather as it works well in that condition. As it gets cooler out, it tends to get herky jerky at lower throttle openings. Road mode is the Goldilocks fueling the bike would have w/out modes. It works well at most any temperature (though even it can jerk around when really cold). Sport mode isn't any more powerful. It just shortens the throw of the throttle. IOW, you don't have to twist the throttle as far to get the same power out of it. You can make the bike feel just as powerful in Road mode. You just have to twist the throttle a little farther ;) The good part of the electronics is you can turn the bloody TC and ABS off and slide it around until your heart's content!
Your explanation of the modes clears up some things, Sport mode decreasing the throttle twist for fuel volume would give a micro second of an edge, which we know can make a difference ! I prefer only memorizing one throttle fueling map. I now understand why some people like these modes. Having 4 bikes is another reason one map per bike works for me, plus my brain is aging ! People sharper than most with gadgets and programming differences probably do well with mides. Ride quick and safe ! 👍
@@Brian-tb1zs Back when bikes had throttle cable actuators, people put little cams on them so as they turned them, instead of bringing on the power linearly with twist, it ramped up quicker as the cable was pulled over the cam lobe. Riding quick is about being smooth. I usually don't find abrupt "sport" fueling maps very smooth.
Great review of an awesome 'traditional' sports motorcycle. First time viewer and I really enjoyed the quality and style of your reviews! No need to upgrade the exhaust...the Triumph team did a wonderful job on the exhaust look and sound.
At 53 these 60's style retros seem before my time, they were the bikes my dad's generation rode. I'm nostalgic for katanas, Rickman predators, Spondon gs1000's and so on, as opposed to old Brit twins. Great video though, love your work and I hope no Rhinos were harmed for this production.
A modern performing retro indeed. Beautiful looking. I do love the long narrow tank and the strip of chrome along the middle of it. I briefly owned a Street Cup last year. Some call it a baby thruxton. Really it’s a Street twin made to look Café racer like with its set up. Clip on bars, cowl seat etc. It was tremendous fun however this thrux is a different and more serious proposition.
Ok guys, I’ve been riding the Ole RE Classic for a while now, so I’ve been eyeing the Thruxton for another Classic Ride. I’ll have to make a trip to the Orlando Florida dealership for a few test rides.
I’ve bought ace cafe limited edition, 900cc previous model as my first bike. It is genius but I had occasion t ride 1200 and now I regret I didn’t buy 1200.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Excellent, cannot wait ! You guys are doing great reviews. I don't have a feeling that I am listening just another reviewer but somebody with passion for motorcycles.
Yeah those 17s on the front make it more cornerable. Looks a little taller than the t120. More ground clearance. Does look to be plenty of motorcycle for most people. Yeah, you've mentioned that u preferred the silver fork legs over the gold. Back on another bike. Maybe the Thruxton 900? Not sure. The short clipons don't thrill me. But unless you're going to do lots of sharp steering, I guess they're okay for highway and average town riding. Looks hot though. Thanks guys.
D'Arcy I agree with you 100 percent with the gold forks needing to be aluminum, also the Black is definitely the color for me, reminds me of a stealth fighter. Great video, BTW, you terrified me driving into the left lane a couple of times, then I remembered you guys call it the proper lane don't you. Dad driving it in the wet conditions made me cringe also.
Enjoying your channel, fellas. Feels uncontrived, honest, and your enthusiasm is authentic and infectious. Thanks for the videos. Now subscribed. Hope the brands pay attention and show you some love.
I do like the cafe racer sport look of the thruxton. I have bar ends and the rear seat cowl on my t100, so I know that look. But those inverted forks and clip on bars, it truly gives it the cafe racer style. And yes, there are times when a 1200 would be sweet. But for what I paid for mine years ago I'll settle. It does look great though. Thanks guys.
Firstly want to say thank you for the great content... I've been following your channel for a while now and appreciate the efforts. I'm waiting for delivery of my thruxton rs and your video has compounded my decision to purchase this fantastic machine!
Great review, what an amazing machine. Triumph really have a strong range of bikes right now. Love the twin analogue dials - they should put those on the Bobber.
I just bought a speed twin! Same engine. 2nd version comes up with enhancement compared the first generation. It would be superb if you could do a review on that one too and… maybe… 😅 makes a comparison between both models! I nearly went for the thruxton rs but given roads restriction and closeness between both motorcycles: I went to the cheapest(which remains really premium compared to the competition). Waiting for your answer if you had time to read this post! See you soon ! M
Excellent reviews chaps, some of the best on TH-cam IMO. Sorry, been watching your reviews for a while now but just realised I hadn't actually subscribed - Sorted that now ; )
Except for one significant blemish, the Thruxton is functionality and aesthetically well done. The blemish is the tank’s cheap pinch-weld. Triumph hid the exposed pinch-weld in the Rocket 3 and T120 Scramblers, should have done the same for the “classic” Thruxton.
I like the Sound and the looks of the Bike. I really need a test ride with it. Just look at it, water cooling, traction control and electronics so well hidden. No cables or anything anywere it simply looks extremely tidy.
Love the look of this bike but my only complaint would be that they do look slightly small......i currently ride a suzuki gsx 1400 which is a big bike, was considering buying one of these but still unsure....could do with a fatter tank and rear tyre i reckon.
Hey gents, your channel is great! I had a 2011Thruxton in Diablo Red. Gave it toy nephew for Christmas 2018. Been wanting a new one for a while. So I've decided on the 2022 Thruxton RS Ton Up! Love the colors. Hope you guys get to ride/reviews one. I'm in Tucson AZ. Cheers 🍻 Just saw the Ton Up Tee! I'm buying it for sure!
Another great review. I love the look of the bike but have to agree with Darcy that the gold forks don't look quite right to me and would prefer silver. A 60's/70's style half fairing like on the Mash TT40 Cafe Racer, would look stunning!
Bugger, I'm now caught between a new RE Continental 650, year old Street Cup or a 4 year old Thruxton R. As they say, I used to be decisive but I'm not so sure now........
Great review. I test rode the thruxton r when it first came out and loved it. This can only be an improvement with less weight and more power. Shame about the colour options, black is ok but a bit boring and I don't like the two tone colour scheme at all. Modes are unnecessary, I've never had a bike with them and never needed them. Just tone it down in the rain.
It's a great bike, stylish and fantastic. You guys give great reviews. Last time I watched your review on Benelli 400 Imperiale. Do you have any reviews on Benelli 502 c?
Great review...comparing this one to speed twin, and forgetting about the equipment differences (Speed twin == Thruxton "sansR" even)... what would you pick for day to day commuting and ocasional 300 miles trips? Is this bike too forward leaning, or confortable enough not to suffer with it?

Pity they are making the wheels and engine casings black now. The original 2016 release in the gloss silver metallic like the one I have is still the prettiest Thruxton so far.
Thruxton 1200 has provision for quick shifter in wiring loom (its shown on wiring diagram ) , think it just needs fitting then tell ECU it has a quick shifter.
Haha I see what you mean. Those electrics have no place in the motorbike hobby. I do like quickshifter when I do hooligan stuff (racing cars and such) but this is definitely not the bike to do that.
Brill review guys as per usual. Great looking machine and oozing quality. I understand why it's water cooled but not keen on the radiator aesthetics. Definitely too small for you guys.
This was an excellent very comprehensive review. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more content. I am curious to know where this was filmed?
@@MrDarcy-OlMan beautiful area. Makes me miss home. I grew up in Yorkshire but have lived in Australia for years. England is definitely better motorcycle country.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan there are some great rides but compared to rural England they are few. Most of the roads here outside the cities are either straight and very long, too short on account of there not bring many civilised areas outside the towns and cites or dirt tracks. England has so many B roads to choose from. On the flip side though the weather here is perfect for motorcycling.
Love the review of the bike ajd love your channel ! As an American I appreciate the variety of styles of bikes you review....from the British classics to big cruisers to Africa Twins . I think Americans enjoy a variety of bikes. I look forward to when you review the new Rebel 1100. I'd also like to see you review some of the ktm nakeds and Japanese nakeds. One of these days gonna buy one of your shirts too.... Thanks!!
Seems a bit petty to get rid of the red stitching on the saddle which looked class - this is the top of the line Bonneville - bring back the red stitching! Why do I think with the new Triumph Bonneville's there is a bit of cost cutting going on disguised as weight saving or making things simpler. They took the lovely chrome wheels off the T120 too along with its main stand and beautiful chrome grab handles. I know these may be available as options now but a T120 is a cruiser bike so who cares about weight.
I have a question for the ol man. I've been riding Harley for 30 years. Currently ride a 107 softail deluxe. Would you say the power is comparable to the 107? I am 5'8 and 65 kilos. I am looking for something different without all the electronic rider aids. I think this would fit the bill.
It’s more rapid and revs up much quicker than the Harley engine. The Harley is laid back and muscular; the Thruxton RS is more racy. Absolutely brilliant bike but a different animal

Love the colors. Hope you guys get to ride/reviews one. I'm in Tucson AZ. Cheers 🍻 Just saw the Ton Up Tee! I'm buying it for sure!
Awesome buddy! Yea hopefully we will review the ton up. Looks amazing for sure!
@Mr Darcy & the Ol' Man Picking up a 2022 Crystal White Speed Triple 1200RR Tuesday 2/8/2020..its a beauty!!
Got the Ton Up tee shirt. Sent you a pic and you posted it up on IG!
@@TriumphLover Awesome! You did the ton on it? 👍🏼👍🏼
@Mr Darcy & the Ol' Man The "Ton" was done, and them some! 😄
Great video, wonderful looking bike. Bit of a step up from the Sinnis bomber, but something to aspire to. Take care of yourselves and stay safe.
Thanks Steve! Yes it’s somewhat more extreme! 👍🏼
@@MrDarcy-OlMan 👍
Modes - I don't like them either. Just like in my car, it's the first button I hit to get into sport mode. And it never remembers when I turn it off.
This one floats my boat gentleman, really nice sound and kerb appeal. Kind regards.
Yes it’s a great bike 👍🏼
Another great review. I love the look of the bike but have to agree with Darcy that the gold forks don't look quite right to me and would prefer silver. A 60's/70's style half fairing like on the Mash TT40 Cafe Racer, would look stunning!
Yes a fairing would finish it off nicely
The XMAX 300 might just be the perfect urban companion. Thanks for the overview!
Great vid! Love the Thruxton would like any of the Triumph retro bikes just need some money 🤪 keep up the good work
Thanks buddy. Yes get saving 👍👍
Bugger, I'm now caught between a new RE Continental 650, year old Street Cup or a 4 year old Thruxton R. As they say, I used to be decisive but I'm not so sure now........
Thruxton R is a tremendous bike!
Nice and honest review! Cover both pros and cons
Thanks Kay 👍🏼💯
Great review. I test rode the thruxton r when it first came out and loved it. This can only be an improvement with less weight and more power. Shame about the colour options, black is ok but a bit boring and I don't like the two tone colour scheme at all. Modes are unnecessary, I've never had a bike with them and never needed them. Just tone it down in the rain.
Thanks Trevor! We know what you’re saying, and the modes are still a bit of a marketing thing at the moment but can be jolly dangerous
It's a great bike, stylish and fantastic. You guys give great reviews. Last time I watched your review on Benelli 400 Imperiale. Do you have any reviews on Benelli 502 c?
Thanks buddy 💯No Benelli reviews planned just yet
Absolute brilliant video, look forward to watching more.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼
awesome bike, but imo it needs the headlight cowl to be complete..
Thanks! Yes that looks really nice!
Awesome review! nice to have some reference for us bigger guys, hard to tell the size of a bike when most reviewers seem to be under 6 ft
Finally subscribed.
Dont always agree, but always liked your stuff.
Regards.
Do a 1400 Guzzi review please. Tia.
At last! Lol. 😁
Great review...comparing this one to speed twin, and forgetting about the equipment differences (Speed twin == Thruxton "sansR" even)... what would you pick for day to day commuting and ocasional 300 miles trips? Is this bike too forward leaning, or confortable enough not to suffer with it?
That’s a hard one! Probably the Speed Twin for the less leaning forward riding position 👍🏼
Brilliant review guys keep up the great work 👍
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Hope to own one of these one day, love yalls vids. The ol man is about my size exactly so it's good to know how it would fit me
Awesome. You must be a fine fella 😁

Pity they are making the wheels and engine casings black now. The original 2016 release in the gloss silver metallic like the one I have is still the prettiest Thruxton so far.
Such a beautiful machine.
GREAT VIDEO GUYS!
Hopefully the 2024 iteration will feature Stylema calipers and an optional quick shifter.
If you have a quick shifter, you might as well have an electric bike!
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Haha!
Thruxton 1200 has provision for quick shifter in wiring loom (its shown on wiring diagram ) , think it just needs fitting then tell ECU it has a quick shifter.
@@nounoufriend1442 Your comment had me do a search and I found there's a company named Translogic who make one for said bike. Nice!
Haha I see what you mean. Those electrics have no place in the motorbike hobby. I do like quickshifter when I do hooligan stuff (racing cars and such) but this is definitely not the bike to do that.
A classic British sports bike that you don't want mucked up with an overly complicated scrolling menu.
Yes definitely!
Brill review guys as per usual. Great looking machine and oozing quality. I understand why it's water cooled but not keen on the radiator aesthetics. Definitely too small for you guys.
Thanks Pike . Interesting to hear your views as always 👍🏼💯
Another excellent review chaps, well done! 👍
Thanks buddy 👍🏼
very informative, engaging and entertaining. Great content!
This was an excellent very comprehensive review. I have subscribed and look forward to seeing more content. I am curious to know where this was filmed?
Thanks Andrew. Welcome aboard. 👍🏼 It was filmed in rural East Leicestershire
@@MrDarcy-OlMan beautiful area. Makes me miss home. I grew up in Yorkshire but have lived in Australia for years. England is definitely better motorcycle country.
@@andrewjackson641 I would have imagined Australia to be better than UK. It’s so crowded on the roads here and only a few places to get away from it
@@MrDarcy-OlMan there are some great rides but compared to rural England they are few. Most of the roads here outside the cities are either straight and very long, too short on account of there not bring many civilised areas outside the towns and cites or dirt tracks. England has so many B roads to choose from. On the flip side though the weather here is perfect for motorcycling.
@@andrewjackson641 yes good points! There’s a lot of animosity towards motorcycles here too
just depends if ya like the driving angle of the handle bars?
Love the review of the bike ajd love your channel ! As an American I appreciate the variety of styles of bikes you review....from the British classics to big cruisers to Africa Twins . I think Americans enjoy a variety of bikes. I look forward to when you review the new Rebel 1100. I'd also like to see you review some of the ktm nakeds and Japanese nakeds. One of these days gonna buy one of your shirts too.... Thanks!!
Thanks buddy! Yes lots to come. Check out our vides tab we've done loads! Heres a KTM naked - th-cam.com/video/KgrxeoWUQUo/w-d-xo.html
Oh, yeah. Another great review guys! Keep up the good work!
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Beautiful machine!
It sure is! Great to ride too!
Beautiful bike.
Thanks! The bike is fantastic! 😉
No problem bro. 👍🏼👍🏼
Can't wait for you to review the 2021 Speed Triple RS when it hits the showrooms, all 178bhp.
Yes us too! 💯
Great review. I'd love to see how you would compare a more modern machine, like a GSR, MT-10 or the new katana.
Thanks buddy. Yes hopefully we can get to do that in due course 👍🏼👍🏼
