My Jeep was missing the crossbars, but it had the "bumpers", in place of the side-rails. It wasn't all that bad, removing the bumpers, but one of the factory screws had seized up, in the housing, and the housing would just spin. Almost couldn't get it out. A needle-nose locking wrench did the trick. Afterwards, I coated the housing with gorilla glue, best I could, to hold it in place. Put some wd40 on the tip of the new side-rail screw, to reduce friction and further avoid moving the housing. It's holding strong, nice and tight.

Awesome video with good explanation. Thank you for sharing! Any idea how hard it would be to install a factory roof rack on an XJ that didn't come with a factory roof rack? Thanks.

Great video! I had a few nuts that were difficult to take off. PB blaster a day before and I was able to take most off. More blaster and I used a vice grip to my screwdriver for some torque.

Another reason to take them off on is that they eventually leak. I took them off my '93 for that reason then applied a little roofing sealer around the nuts. Problem solved, now I can install a new headliner :)

Aren't there some that go through the roof and bolt under the headliner? That would be a good video of how to.

Do you know of anywhere that you can get crossbars for flush roof rails? Yours look like they were flush to the roof. I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty and it has the flush roof rails but I can't find crossbars to fit it to save my life.
