    I'm really thankful for you Alex for doing this video! I have my first trial lesson with my first student on Preppy tomorrow, and I was a bit confused and anxious before watching this video. But not anymore after watching such an amazing video

    My best tip: make sure your personality shines super clear in the intro video that the student watches before they book you. That eliminates students who just won't like your style. No bait and switch - they trial you but they already like your personality. That will double or triple your success rate. In other words, if you're super serious then be that way in the intro. If you are a goofy fun teacher, don't be afraid to let that shine through in the intro video.

    Awesome, thanks very much. I personally think one hour is too long for a trial lesson, it would be better use of both the student and tutors time if it was around 45 minutes.

    Sometimes if I don't really jive well with a student, I really focus on the fact that they aren't committed. "So just so you know, you aren't committed to me as a teacher. Preply lets you trial others..." But amusingly enough, I usually GET those students! I think they are impressed that I'm not desperate! 🤣

      @teachercook-e2572  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the kind words. Good question, I rarely use the whiteboard in my classes so I'm not entirely sure but I know sharing my screen sometimes poses a few problems. If this is the case, there are plenty of websites that offer free whiteboard services and so maybe you could use a good third party one instead and take a screenshot of it at the end of every lesson and post it into the chat with the student. Hope this helps

    • @teachercook-e2572
      @teachercook-e2572  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the student. If a student would like to learn about a specific subject then by all means they're welcome to suggest it.

    Can I share my own screen and use my own material this way with students ? Have first trial lesson on Monday 😅

    • @teachercook-e2572
      @teachercook-e2572  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! In fact, I would encourage it. If your student has had trial lessons with other teachers, chances are they've been using Preply materials too, so it's a great idea to use your own materials to stand out and teach YOUR way

    I'm curious to know your trial to paid lesson ratio over time. Did you eventually find enough regular students or did you find yourself doing trial after trial for weeks on end?

    • @teachercook-e2572
      @teachercook-e2572  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, great question. I found that in the earlier days it was around 80% but this depreciated over time with a lot of students taking advantage of the 'free trial lesson if you're not happy with your original tutor' promotion.

    How to use zoom for preply

    • @teachercook-e2572
      @teachercook-e2572  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As you would for any regular Zoom meeting. Just make sure to take one or two screenshots during the Zoom meeting as sometimes Preply ask for proof that the meeting took place outside of Preply. By teaching on the Preply site the lessons are automatically confirmed since they can see that the lesson took place.

    But what if the student just wants to focus on having conversation and not read anything?
    Cases where they just want to talk about anything and everything
    Because they don't get to speak in English with the people around them

    • @teachercook-e2572
      @teachercook-e2572  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      In this case it's totally find to keep the conversation going. Overtime it gets easier and easier just to develop relevant questions in your head for students who just want to converse and these are actually my favourite type of lessons as it's much more laidback and often a learning session for both you and the student as you also get to learn about their culture and lifestyle.
