      Fast charging heats up the phone way faster which degrades the battery faster. If phones were tablet sized and companies invested as much money into them, we'd have excellent cooling and fast charging above 50w would be the standard, but they're not
      Edit : I do not blame fast chargers alone fyi. If your phone doesn't heat up because of it, great. But not everyone lives in ideal conditions and here in South Asia, with warm weathers throughout the years, fast chargers often overheat phones. That HEAT degrades battery. Also, how are some of you people's comprehension so bad? The phone and tablet market are two very different things, why haven't we seen much tablets with high end specs? Cause the market's small and the risks are high. Because of that, tablets do not support as fast of a charger as some phones. Not because it's impossible, just because it isn't worth the trouble

      @Mardoxx7 I have a very strong feeling you don't actually do much to protect the environment and recycle, you're just virtue signaling, and no separating your trash from your recycle at your house (if you even do that) when in the vast majority of states and local principalities it all goes to the same landfill anyways (look it up) doesn't count. Upgrading at two years is very common and reasonable. If he traded in his phone its getting reused, if he kept it as a backup there's practical application there too, maybe he gave it away to a family member or friend. There is no reason to assume wastefulness here, in conclusion fuck off with your BS, you have no idea what you're talking about.

    One of the primary issues with today's marketing is the the lack of ingenuity in order to promote cash grabs. Nowadays it's more about the amount of sales instead of the amount of real satisfaction. Thanks for touching on this, it says a lot.
    Edit: I am NOT saying all products are designed to swindle nor do I mean sales were never the point from day one. Yet in some areas with certain circumstances it seems like less bang for your buck is a result of some corporations.

My personal iPhone 11 will drain worse and It'll be hot to the touch at times when charging but I'm not surprised since it's older and my battery is drained. It was laggy, the battery sucked, and the screen was too small imo. Im a girl and i have bigger hands so i love bigger screens. That being said, i wanted one of the 14 series and i was stuck between the 14 pro max, 13 pro max, and 14 plus. In the end, i chose the 14 plus. I didnt care for all the extra pro features and gimmicks. My 14 plus has everything i want and need in a phone: bigger screen for cheaper price, BEST battery life (used my phone from 6:30 am all the way to 9pm and my phone wasnt even below 20%. Havent had to charge it once. My 12 mini could never!!) and a great camera! Battery drain is real with iOS 16, my iphone 12 had its battery life reduced by around 20% compared to iOS 15.

  • @ZarhardTT
    @ZarhardTT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    The battery drain has been very strange with IOS 16. I have the 11 Pro max with charge case, typically charge it at night and it lasts until late into the next night, never had an issue with battery. My charge case is basically now useless as the phone loses charge so fast now that its draining faster than the case can deliver. If I restart my phone however it returns to normal and they begin charging at similar rates, really annoying and I hope they fix, was hoping to upgrade to the 14 but will see my other options if this doesn't get fixed soon. I'd normally just put this down to battery wear and tear however this only started after updating to IOS 16 and once I restart it its normal again. Thank you for highlighting these issues

Have had a 12 mini for only about a year now, but after updating, not only did the battery life get SIGNIFICANTLY worse (which is made more confusing by the fact that it was already pretty bad), but my battery health is already down to 89%. My previous iPhone only got down to that amount of battery health after almost two years, and I’m pretty sure the majority of the tank was shortly after I updated, considering just about a week ago it read as 91%.

We can only add so many transistors to a new chip before we’re going to have to find a new way of computation like Quantum Computing

    • @SapSapient
      @SapSapient 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beyond that, the typical user rarely has chip speed as a bottleneck, so they gain little from CPU advancements. Even midrange phones have CPUs that are perfectly good for most consumers.
      To use MKCD's analogy, I don't care if my next car has a top speed than is greater than my current car. I've never hit that limit.

    • @PurushNahiMahaPurush
      @PurushNahiMahaPurush 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the issue is that even though these chips are getting faster, iOS and iPad OS are so dumbed down and restrictive that there are hardly any apps that can take advantage of the hardware aside for the 1-2 video editing apps which most people will never see these performance improvements. At this point, the iPad is a glorified media consumption device for most people that are not artists. It’s a shame since M1 iPad has killer hardware. If only Apple allowed MacOS apps to run on it.

    I'd be down for an X Months Later series where you do similar updates like this on current flagships.
    Android 12 and the Pixel 6 had a bit of a rough start for some but I similarly didn't experience any of what I saw others reporting and it has improved over time. I just noticed with either 13 or a monthly patch they changed the haptic feedback for the fingerprint sensor to a single click. It lends credence to my idea that part of what made people think it was unreliable/slow was the use of two haptic clicks instead of just one when recognized.
    A friend told me he was having issues with his because it kept telling him "not recognized" even though he felt the click. Once I explained there should be two and he started waiting for the second he said it worked perfectly fine for him.
    I guess the idea was to provide haptic feedback both for "finger detected" and "print recognized" since you can't feel where the sensor is for the former. I quite liked it but it seems that ended up confusing people used to only the latter and their "hold a little longer" message on the lock screen apparently wasn't sufficient. Noticed now that has been replaced with "press firmly on the sensor".
    I think such a series could be good at highlighting some of the little changes like these that can make a big difference to user experience as well as how long after launch issues persist.

It doesn't take advantage of the fact amoled screens can turn off black pixels, which is what enabled them to do aods in the first place, it just dimms the screen, so no wonder it soncumes so much battery compared to other phones who only need to power a few pixels.

      1. When aods were made they would have drawn a lot more power
      2. You maintain similar functionally, or well basically a clock and notifications, maybe a picture
      3. Having an aod be a dimmed lock screen doesn't make sense to me when you can just turn down your brightness on the lock screen. It is for at a glance things, like battery percentage, music playing, time, if you have notifications, etc. You don't need to have your entire lock screen there, so it seems unnecessary to me.

    My 12 pro got warm and had quick battery drain for a while after I updated to ios 16. I just assumed it was the phone going through my entire Photos backlog and applying the new AI magic to pull the subject out of the image and put the clock behind the subject for the new lock screens. It resolved itself after a couple weeks, and since then I've had no issues with warm phone or battery drain (actually my battery life seemed to improve over ios 15). I could totally see this same thing happening for people's new iPhone 14's...

      Something is going on. My iPhone 12 Pro Max overheats (warning message and no charging allowed till cool) regularly with iOS 16. It happens all the time with Carplay (I have the cable required version in my vehicle), and I've had to prematurely kill several drone flights mid job due to the phone overheating. I never had to do that once before iOS 16.
      I had not seen the overheating message on any iPhone I've used, which goes all the way back to the OG, a single time prior to iOS 16. It's a regular issue now even after resets and going without a case to help cooing. That said, I do believe you. The issue seems partially related to home screen setups and various live updating widgets. It's not automatically an issue for every iPhone that runs the OS.

    Awesome video! My 12 Pro Max to 14 Pro Max upgrade has been nothing but stellar. Every aspect of the device is upgraded! And the new screen is amazing… In regards to battery life, I’m seeing an actual increase of more than 50% depending on usage (with 5G disabled), running two eSims. I do notice a much more significant battery drain with 5G enabled, and the benefit of having it enabled is minuscule where I’m located. With 5G enabled for both sims, I am seeing about 40% increased battery life over my previous device. It also becomes much warmer with constant use having 5G enabled. Hopefully that is addressed in the 16 Pro series, which will be my next device. (1/2)

    I’ve found that the battery drain and iPhone overheating issue is due to the 5G and Wi-Fi transition. At time the Wi-Fi will connect to an access point (AP) that’s either busy or has no connection. When this happens iCloud become unresponsive and the phone starts to time out. At times if you are playing music through Apple Music the music will stop or once Wi-Fi reconnects the music will skip to a different song. Apple car play will also time out as well as GPS for third party apps such as Waze or Google Maps. I suggested to Apple that before connecting to an AP the phone should ping to check latency and then connect once it can determine ip availability. The blended 5G and Wi-Fi causes the phone to freeze or heat up at times due to the iPhone requiring the use of iCloud to authenticate, verify and access information. I feel if this changes then transition will be seem less.

      Saying a bug is stored in hardware is like saying your Tesla can’t self navigate because a tire is flat.

    4:45 funny enough I actually picked car A mainly because car A's figures are more usable (I get the point he was making but I'm just geeking out over cars :P). High power isn't everything because around corners high power can actually hurt you where speed doesn't matter nearly as much as good tires and suspension characteristics. I also knew which was the "faster" car for a track based on car A having higher HP numbers than torque numbers showing that the power is up high in the rev ranger rather than lower like car B where it has more torque than hp showing that the power is all down low in the "rev range" (I guess it still has a rev range even though it's electric? Just slightly different lol). Anyway what I wanted to say is when it comes to going fast especially around a track "bigger number, better" doesn't really matter as much as the relation of the two numbers and the 0-60 in a track setting doesn't really matter nearly as much as yes you don't want a car that takes 20 seconds to get from 0-60 but it doesn't matter nearly as much as say a nice and grippy tire and good suspension.
    My qualifications: amateur racer and I obsess WAY too much over the science behind cars :)
