Lud has very European heritage but let’s be honest, he’s one of the most american Americans to american
He's way too reasonable for an American
I studied French for 8 years in middle and high school and college, passed AP French and took Advanced French Conversation in college. Every time I ran into French people working as a busboy or waiter they told me my French was amazing and have I been to France.
I went to France when I was 22 and INSTANTLY had an existential crisis because nobody could understand me and I DEFINITELY couldn't understand anybody, and I felt like everything I had ever been told by everyone about my French was a lie. I got so angry I stayed in Europe for 16 months and forced everyone in France to talk to me in French, repeated "Please don't speak to me in English I didn't come here to speak English" a million times to all the French who try to speak English when I opened my mouth, and then when I came home went back to college and switched my major from from Pre-Med to Linguistics & French Language.
Today I know I actually do speak good French bc when I start speaking French to French people, they don't speak English but French as if I'm fluent. Totally worth it.
But then when I started learning Chinese, within 2 days EVERY Chinese person lost their mind like I'm fluent. It's only the French who need you to be C1 level French to have any respect for you (which I certified HAVE as of 2018 btw)
Haha, I had exact the same thing happening to me. Had French in school for 9 years... arrive in France and was able to understand maybe half of it.
@@irissupercoolsy it really be like that, language education in school is all a lie
The Dutch are notorious for the same too, if we don’t hear perfect Dutch coming out of someone’s mouth we usually reply in English. Guess it comes from not wanting to repeat ourselves.
@@Mythxiirno i think its just because for dutch peoples english is so good that it doesnt matter for them to talk to you in english or even dont notice that they switched
@@criticalhippo5927 Yeah I was thinking we kinda do this in Denmark too and probably for this reason. Like It's cute that you're trying but I'm literally native speaker level English I'd rather we just use a language that makes the interaction easier on us both
I didn’t know Ludwig spoke French til he walked into the studio for Chess Clash and impressed everyone, but not with his Clash knowledge 😂

Ludwig feels like the kind of guy to expect France to be good.
rest of france is good, really pretty, cant say the same for Paris

Europe is overrated
France is a dirty country with even dirtier history and politics.
@@epidia1025 as a french boy i can confirm
Ludwig: everything is too close to drive and too far to walk
Basically anyone: and the metro?
He’s American he will get too confused
It's too far to walk for americans, an european will walk 1 mile and think it's totally fine.
To be fair, the metro always is a horrendous experience in Paris
@@HeyItsRioo Come on, there's one line that's really bad, the rest is pretty fine.
you could bike right?
"too close to drive but too far to walk" ludwig please google paris metro next time
Proof that most Americans tourists don’t search for informations before going to france 🇫🇷 😂
Ludwig: i speak french at a professors level
Also ludwig: i speak like a 6 year old
15:09 I have spent a fair amount of time in French parts of Canada and it's the same. If you walk into a store and expect the employees to speak English some of the time they will just refuse and only talk in French. But if you start off trying to speak French they will be a lot nicer and will switch to English most of the time. I have seen the same employee have two different reactions based on the language a person starts off with.
some people also don't know english.
Not the same shit in Quebec they see them as minority in an englishspeeker country
That's because english is an invasive language
In Québec, most of the people refusing to speak English are acting this way from a fear that French here is going to end up disappearing, because it's slowly starting to be the case
(sorry for my approximate English, I'm French)
that so racist !
One thing in France is that you need to say "Hello/Bonjour, please/s'il vous plait, Thank you/Merci". If you just put your shit in a table and show you credit card it's just the rudest thing you can do.
Exactly, I think that the reason Slime had these bad experiences is that he was unknowingly being very rude himself. Like for the shoe store, pointing at the shoe and just saying "11?" is not it. Clerks are humans, they're here to help you they're not your servants and they're entitled to politeness
Americans don’t understand this… it’s crazy how many bad encounters they could just avoid 😢
This is so American to assume everyone have the same exact way of life as them…
Im only 15 seconds in, but Ludwig seems to have picked up a Russian accent in France.
15:15 I remember living in the States for a while. Naturally speaking 95% English and just sometimes German with my wife. As soon as I said a German word, a man walked past me and mumbled "fucking terrorists" while looking at me.
I do think it's normal that I had to convert all sizes to freedom units. Do Americans expect it's the same as in the US in Europe?
Wait what? That's so weird. I live in Belgium and you can hear people speak all kind of languages on the street.
@@irissupercoolsy it was quite shocking. In Germany I would have confronted the man but it was not worth it and asked what his intentions are.
I live in a part in Germany with many Americans and we also do hear different languages all day. Nobody cares. Live and let live, be happy you good neighbours, no matter the language they speak. As far as they are nice themselves.
@@BlueFlash215 Yeah, it looks a bit shocking that they acted like that indeed. But indeed, if you were to confront them, it wouldn't have been a mature conversation. And I also love going to Germany. Sadly I don't know any German. I've been working on my French first.
im so sorry, where in the states? and as an american were all entitled and assume everyone else can convert from metric for us
No not all Americans just the entitled ones, just like Entitled French, English, and Chinese. Sadly we all have arrogant fools who think they flew around the world to act the same and people want to deal with it.
My experience in Paris was also fairly positive, even though I only speak French at like... a kindergartener level. Almost everyone I met there were extremely patient and nice, and spoke to me with very basic French to help me along with my god awful attempt to communicate with them. I think as long as they see that you're trying, even just a little bit, they're happy.
I can imagine Slime just entering the Pharmacie, not saying Hello, putting everything on the counter and waving his credit card. It's like the rudest thing you could do to a French person, like spitting on their face
Goddamn you’ve had a better experience in Paris than me and I’m French
the fuck
bro was in Paris, Ohio
@@aurelien5747 ... i think that probably was because you're French, right? Like, if an Asian looking dude went to Japan and spoke shitty Japanese, the locals would probably be thinking: "Are you stupid? Why can't you speak the language?" Where as if an obviously non-Asian dude spoke shitty Japanese, they'd probably get nihongo-jozu-ed.
I had your mother as a Spanish teacher and it’s still wild to me that you are literally her son it’s just too much to think about

Its funny how Ludwig speaks english in an Italian accent pretending to be french
i love how ludwig is so proud of being french yet the french flags on his face in the thumbnail are wrong

Who’s in Paris
I was in Berlin back in 2014 when Germany absolutely humiliated Brazil in the World Cup and it was such an amazing time between all the bars and the like fan watch areas (also in Belgium for a lot of their matches including the US one), so I can only imagine how much fun you had in Paris for the Rugby World Cup! It is definitely the kind of experience I hope everyone can enjoy sometime. Even if you're not into sports, I'm not really, just hanging out in a major city for a big national team sports match for that country, like rugby or soccer world cup, hockey, maybe a major olympic team sports match, whatever. It is always so hype. At least for me, even more than pro/club sports. Like for me it is a different feeling having the entire country of Argentina cheering with you for a hype goal than only having the city of Boston cheer alongside you for a Patriots touchdown or something like that.
Crazy that you went to France and picked up a Russian accent instead of a French one

that's crazy dude I also haven't been to france in 5 years but I feel you dude about being the american in the french family, hella funny shit fuels my parasocial relationship
Parisians really do think it's adorable when you try to speak French though. I butchered every word that came out of my mouth but everyone was so pleased that I tried. It was quite nice compared to Italians that just snap at you to speak English because their language does not deserve such abuse.
Well, I guess it depends.
Foreigners often complain a lot about French people not speaking English.
So, some may start answering in English due to that, although it's not because of your French.
As a French speaking Swiss I must say, I like France, I like most French people I've met, but Paris and Parisians ? Holy shit dude hell no. I went ONE TIME because my plane landed there and I had to catch a train on the other side of the city to go to Caen, I was there for about 2 hours only and I had enough lol
As A New Zealander, when he said, ”Rugby World Cup,not the real World Cup”, feels pretty bad 😂

The woman that appears over your shoulder is my wife! I also got one of those cool hats!
Now I’m mad that I couldn’t say hello in person 😂
"Le Dwig" is what my brain spat out when he tried a french accent
Lud's French accent is so good my hat turned to beret
His accent is so good he got you to comment on a video and not a YT short
his accent is truly hilarious
His accent is not french at all tho, he talks like an American who knows french which is fine too
Honestly Ludwig, for telling us about your trip to France for 35 minutes and keep the attention of me, that's what I call some good storytelling.
Italy 🤝 france for having no AC
if your mate just walked in the store and asked informations without saying "hello, excuse me" he got the treatments everybody gets, french or not
31:30 "Great set, have a good night" "I'm not done, I'm gonna be back in 30 minutes" Ludwig teaching us the value of bluffing 🤔
“I don’t bring this up a lot” “Im actually French” for the 888th time
Most American thing ever "Too close to drive and too far to walk" like if public transport does not exist.
America's too big. Gotta drive everywhere.
0:40 i really heard "I've been touching myself all week"💀
I wonder if anything Ludwig does is not a mistake or accident
"Too close to drive and too far to walk" - that would be why you use the Paris Metro. A week unlimited pass is so cheap even for all the zones and you can just literally go anywhere. When I was there I was just constantly zipping around on the metro.
Who wants to get stuffed like a sardine?
Ah yes, my monthly Lud video with the quote ,,It was a mistake'' in the title
"Je become sec" had me cry laughing
bro really went to France and expected it not to be a mistake
Lud saying he don't talk about his personal life like every time he sees a croissant he doesn't slide in he's French
Lud’s mistakes are getting more and more expensive lol.
another video where lud tells us he is french when he is actually spanish
13:36 : Here's my answers as a Parisian :
1 : France is mostly fresher than US (oceanic climate)
2 : That's true.
3 : Yeah, we got different sizes.
4 : You can use : metro, bus, RER...
Btw, your french vocabulary is excellent, it's just that you have a TERRIBLE accent.
You need to visit the french regions of Britany and Normandy ! (It's like UK because it stills raining).
Fake news Normandy is better than the UK because we have edible food
As a English major who just entered ASU as a freshman, I do in fact appreciate the 60 degree air conditioning that the Targets have 14:44 XD
When I was in France people were nice and I could communicate with vendors only because they knew Spanish lol. It was honestly sick
So cool!
Yeah Spanish is pretty close to french so we can understand it more easily than English 😊
Also we did less wars with the Spanish than the English 😂
Ludwig reminding us his French like we can’t smell it
About the cigarette packs, I'm pretty sure US is the only country where they DON'T have that. I'm from Poland and some of the pictures are fucking traumatising and they're just on display in any store.
It's kinda ridiculous that they have to put those pics on the cigarettes. Like do they need to hand out a picture of a 600 pound troll every time I go to McDonald's?
slime getting scammed is such a cautionary tale
Ludwig loving France but hating Paris is the frenchest thing he's ever said. Now I consider you one of us.
very good video and as someone who now lives in france and speaks french really badly, i recognize the part about people being either shit towards you or really nice when you try to speak french haha.
Anyone who's not french : Paris sucks bro
Non-parisians french : Paris sucks bro
Parisians : Paris sucks bro
Ludwig saying that he fluent in French but he make the most simple mistake that a regular French speakers would recognize
11:12 right after he said "its like this" i got the burgerking ad that goes WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER
love that the first french person he interacts with literally laughs at the idea of a shower
when you going in a other country, just try to speak the language like Bonjour, merci Aurevoir.
This is respect.
Hey lud, as a massive nfl fan and fantasy guy honestly I think your team is goated. Not sure how many people are in your League which makes a huge difference but Nick chubb and Tony pollard will be top 10 RB this year! Plus once copper kupp gets back in a few weeks you will be solid dude!
agreed, “my fantasy team is dogshit” bro has two blue chip RBs, a solid QB, DK Metcalf and Scary Terry. his depth leaves something to be desired sure but when those suspended/hurt guys come back he’s gonna be FINE.
chub and rodgers both out his season is over
“Addicted to work” is a funny way to say “need the money for food and rent so I do the work”
Yeah, too close to drive too far to walk. If only they had some kind of short distance rail, maybe even underground haha
Ludwig keeps trying to remind people that he’s French as though his name isn’t Ludwig
So jealous Lud got to visit the motherland
As a fellow French-American (specifically one that leans closer to the French side) I can seamlessly go from American to French, but when I get back to the USA I struggle to reconvert lol
18:41 Did you use the metro? That would probably fix that problem.
3:10 EXACTLY!!! I don't know how people call it a vacation when they travel, IT IS SO TIRING!!
The best vacation for me is on my bed with my laptop
omg I saw "Old Enough" actually on TV in Japan. Some of the episodes were cute, but sometimes the child (more like toddler) would break down and cry and have a terrible time, all with a bunch of adults just filming and watching the kid lol. I was with my mom and we were both like "that's a little fucked up"
Bro didn't get the Tattoo. That fine, I used to listen to a old podcast and a person got a tattoo of the logo and felt pride, because it will stick to them after it was over and it was a special moment in their life.

Only ludwig would give a PowerPoint presentation and somehow make it into content

I am glad you enjoyed your trip to Paris, France!
I walked on the treadmill while watching the whole entire video.
I love visiting Paris, France. I studied abroad there for 3 weeks in January 2018. There's so much to explore there. My French conversation skills are like a toddlers despite having a Bachelor of Arts in French.
You should visit the Santa Barbara French Festival and COLCOA French film festival.
Only 3 weeks? When are you coming back we have a lot more to show you 😊
i laughed at the "you trying to take a shower", and i'm French
A shame you didn't let know your french viewers, would be great to make you there one day! And also you could meet French viewers
meeting fans = work
He doesn't want to meet strangers he's there to get paid and visit family
I met some french girls in Tokyo and they made it very clear that Paris isn't a nice place lol
I've bought shoes in Europe and I've never expected them to know my US size lol. Americans kinda deserve their treatment too tbh.
16:32 Actually there's an explanation to this. In fact, french people are colder to people they dont know. It's the opposite with americans. Amercican are very cheerfull with strangers so they are not use to the coldness so they think they're hating americans or being annoyed by them which in fact is not true. It's just their way of expressing themselves to stranger but in fact most of the they're not annoyed. (but still Paris is another world where people are weird and nobody in France like parisians because they're weird and yes sometime unpleasant)
The Ahgren family name really emphasizes how french one can be.
That's a Swedish last name
Ludwig the type of guy to expect Paris to be the city of love
Nice one lud but I’m not sure Aaron rogers and his 75 second season will help u win ur fantasy league
18:55 My blud act like there is not 14 metro lines and more than three hundred bus lines 😂
Ludwig never does anything on purpose.
I lived in Lyon for a little while, and every time i had to go somewhere it was a half hour walk, Lyon is a more “human sized” city
I work at a Restaurant in germany near the french border, we get many french visitors. They legit, will not speak ANYTHING other than french, only in very rare cases. Even though they are in another country. Now luckily i am Bilingual in French and German, but everytime i hear the "Bonjour!", I sigh internally.
