    “AR” does NOT stand for “assault rifle” or “automatic rifle.”....
    AR= ArmaLite Rifle .... AND as a hunter, AR's ARE used for hunting, in my specific location they are used for coyote .

    Let me preface this by saying I agree with some of what Mark says. The shootings are atrocious and need to stop. But read til the end before you vilify me.
    I'm gonna take heat, but assault rifles are banned. A class 3 automatic firearm is not available to your average joe. M4s look the same but are not the same. The military uses the M4 and M16 platforms for combat. These are automatic and 3 round burst assault rifles, used to defend us by our brave soldiers and law enforcement.
    The AR IN AR-15 doesn't stand for assault rifle. It stands for the company that made the platform Arma Lite Rifle.
    A .223, used in most AR-15s is just as dangerous as any other bullet. It is only slightly bigger than a .22, one of the smallest calibers of bullets available.
    Access to guns, seeing as how there are more guns in America than people, isn't the problem. Teaching people how to use guns, how to be safe with guns, how to lock guns up away from children, is one of the problems
    Getting the FBI to act on credible threats is the problem. The person who did this blatantly advertised he was gonna do it. And now 17 people are dead because they did not act.
    Mark hits it on the head when he says we need to stop stigmatizing mental health. We need to stop glorifying gun violence in our media and we need to stress the permanent and real nature of death.
    As someone with loved ones who suffer from mental health problems, I implore you to just be there for those you know who struggle.
    As someone who has been bullied and felt the depression and pain of being a social outcast, I implore you to just look outside of yourself for those who are suffering.
    As someone who supports the second amendment, I urge you to keep viewing all sides. To look into the facts. We need ways to keep guns out of the hands of those who use them for murder, while allowing those who enjoy safe shooting sports, hunting, and who own firearms to defend themselves, should be allowed to enjoy their freedoms.
    We will never eradicate these atrocities. Sadly, it is impossible to lock everything down to the point that no one hurts one another. But we can make a difference.
    So forgive. Love. Be there for someone who is hurting. Learn to be safe with those things that can hurt us, like guns, cars, prescription drugs, all these things that cause deaths. And help end the stigma against mental health. That way those who suffer can get the help they need.
    Keep your rage in a cage, hugs not drugs, if it isn't your don't touch it and smile... it makes the world a better place.

  • @Andy-413
    @Andy-413 6 ปีที่แล้ว +388

    Actually, many MANY people get this confused but true assault rifles are already banned. To be considered an assault rifle it has to be fully automatic, or burst fire or with select fire between full auto, burst and single fire capability or any combination of two of those settings and it has to be magazine fed. Some people will call that a machine gun, but a machine gun is only fully automatic and belt fed and are usually too large to carry by one person and usually have no less than a 50 round capacity. The rifles that are available to the general public are semi-automatic (single fire) weapons. A pistol fits into that category and can be just as deadly as a rifle and in fact can be converted into a rifle-like weapon by attaching a large frame to it and a long barrel. In fact, pistols are the weapons of choice for criminals and mass murderers because they are so easy to conceal. One little known fact is that only 2 crimes last year were committed with rifles. So ultimately banning rifles would do pretty much nothing. If we banned pistols, it would leave many people defenseless and criminals would still be able to obtain them anyway, albeit with more difficulty, but nonetheless, they'd still obtain them. I agree something has to be done, but the best solution is probably not through gun control.

    • @sharmatta6096
      @sharmatta6096 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Colin Anderson About your point with semi-automatic guns, that whole thing becomes a loophole when someone uses bump stocks, so what difference does it make?

    • @Andy-413
      @Andy-413 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Kevin Aydin You're right. You can also bump fire just as fast without a bump stock, just by using your shoulder. But guns that are actually designed for fully automatic fire can achieve a fire rate far faster than you can achieve with a bump stock. Also, assuming you have fast enough fingers, you can achieve a similar fire rate as bump firing if you adjust the trigger pressure so it becomes a hair trigger, meaning you only have to pull the trigger very slightly, like a millimeter or two, and with very light pressure before it fires.

    • @cielmoon7131
      @cielmoon7131 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Colin Anderson You put it in a good way, but the children are the future of all us people. Of course they’ll do anything they can to ensure their safety, what if you’d child/children got killed in a school shooting? Wouldn’t you like to take action to save other parents the misery?

    • @Andy-413
      @Andy-413 6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Thanks, run for the sphere :) I would absolutely like to take action if that happened to my children, but gun control probably isn't the answer and would likely increase violent crimes. It would be selfish of me to want everyone else to be defenseless because I lost my child/children. That would leave *FAR* more people defenseless than those who are lost through mass shootings. Besides, guns don't protect people from only other people with guns, but from people with melee weapons as well as other types of weapons.
      According to the CDC, 500,000 -3,000,000 lives are saved every year from defensive use of guns. So it wouldn't be right to put all those lives at risk for the sake of *possibly* saving *FAR* less lives. If I were to make a change, it would be by installing bulletproof windows and doors in all schools and requiring all exterior doors and windows to be locked during school hours and not allowing any unauthorized people into the schools. That would at least prevent any people who are not employed or any who are not students from attacking a school. I would also increase requirements for owning a gun, such as requiring a thorough mental health examination for anyone who wants a gun.

    The AR15 is a semiautomatic civilian grade rifle
    It fires a bullet tinier than that of a handgun, the caliber measuring to 5.56mm while most handguns fire the 9.00mm and the .45 (11.35mm), which produces a bigger wound compared to the AR15.
    Although the AR15’s bullet has a bigger neck (meaning it has more gun powder loaded into the cartridge), this only effects the velocity, recoil and speed of the hammer being primed.
    • Recoil means the gun jumps higher and is less controllable, this is a negative thing.
    • The higher the velocity, the more a bullet can penetrate, at first this seems like it’s more deadly. However, it’s more dangerous for a bullet to be in you than through you, especially if the bullet is made from led (which is poisonous) or if the bullet has a hollowed point (which causes the bullet to break apart and spread out, causing even more damage than at first). The extremely high velocity causes these things to not work, hell, they stoped making hollow pointed 5.56mm rounds because they frankly just didn’t work.
    • lastly, the speed of the hammer being primed. Yes, the hammer does prime back in position quicker, however, the hammer is locked in a position from firing until letting go of the trigger, making the speed boost practically useless.
    The only thing scary about this gun is the fact that it holds up to 30 rounds, which isn’t much compared to the fact that the Glock 17 holds 20 rounds (or more depending on the magazine size) with a bullet almost twice as big.
    Pros:
    -High Magazine size
    Cons:
    -Smaller bullet
    -Same fire rate
    -Special ammo proved useless
    -More recoil
    Why are we banning this again?

Pewdiepie often puts in his 2 cents, and look how much he gets in return almost every time. First off, she was completely denying these people their freedom of speech. That alone is breaking the basic principle that has held up this country. Also, we technically didn't vote for Trump. We just didn't vote at all, and more people saw Hillary as an idiot then Trump.

    Heres some facts: An assault rifle, as defined by the United States Department of Defense, is a selective fire (meaning full auto and/or burst capability) rifle that fires a cartridge intermediate between that of a rifle and sub machine gun.
    The National Firearms Act of 1934 banned full auto guns like assault rifles from civilians. The Gun Control Act of 1968 banned them from import, and the Gun Owners Protection Act of 1986 banned them from manufacture and made it so if it wasn't registered before that date it was a non transferable meaning you can't sell it or give it away.
    In order to buy a full auto gun you first have to find one, which is very difficult and they are like 15-20 thousand dollars. Then ya gotta pay the 200 dollar tax stamp and submit a ton of paperwork to get investigated by the government and have passport style photos cards and fingerprint cards. It takes about a year before you can have the gun transferred. The alternative is to get a Federal Firearms License so you can make full auto guns but that license costs 75 grand.
    An assault rifle has never been used in a mass public shooting.
    They are practically impossible to get.

    First half of the video: "Assault rifles need to be banned." Assault rifles are already banned from civilian use. The AR in AR-15 stands for Armalite Rifle, not Assault rifle. An assault rifle has the ability to shoot full auto, which AR-15's can't; the one's that can are the military version (a.k.a not for the general public) of the AR-15, the M-4.
    Second Half: "Why not have some measure of control over these dangerous tools?" We do, and I agree that there needs to be stricter laws about how one can come about and possess these tools. The accessories to the tool are different story in my eyes and should be talked about separately.
    "Now is not the time for talk." Actually, this is the perfect time for talk. Talk about how the Brier County Sheriff's department screwed up so bad. Talk about the FBI's failure to investigate when the shooter was outed two months earlier by his family along with photos of the gun he was going to use. Talk is what is necessary at the moment. Action can come after we know all possible details.
    "The kids marching and talking around the U.S are the future." They are and that's why we should not let them writhe in ignorance about gun issues. Banning guns beyond the assault rifles, which are already banned, will cause hysteria amongst lawful gun owners. Riots and distress that will only cause more upheaval and more bull**** from the media. This should also apply to mental health. Don't fear it, understand it and understand how to get help for the people who suffer from mental problems.
    I love Mark. His video are great and he is an upstanding guy. But the video I just watched shows that while Mark knows a lot about the physical aspects of guns, he doesn't know a lot about the background of the guns. He's not ignorant about guns, he's ignorant of gun legislation.

      Alex Mitterer But "dude", at the same time, AK-47s are BUYABLE on the NORMAL market. Ik bc my Dad owns one, along with having liscenes are registration on it. He even has legally modded it so it acts just about the same as a full auto, so yeah. Plus, AR-15s are moddable, EASILY moddable, and I have seen people change one thing and they become full autos. Plus, the ACTUAL definition of an assault rifle is as follows: "a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use." Now, semi-auto guns meet that definiton, as they are rapid fire and automatic, just not fully automatic. Therefore, AR-15s, by DEFINITION, are fully automatic. I have talked to many police officers and judges with this matter, and they all agree, that legally, an AR-15 is an assualt rifle.

    • @BatWolfPlays

      Kieth_Singleton2011 Singleton He didn't mod an AR-15, he modded an AK-47 legally. Basically, he went through some paperwork and bought a bump-fire stock. I was saying I know people who have modded an AR-15, those people being friends of my dad's, and are the ones who recommended he buy a bump stock. Also, remember the Las Vegas shooting? Most of the guns he used and most of the guns he left on the bed and didn't end up using had bump-fire stocks. He had even boughten the guns legally and had even boughten the bump-fire stocks legally, along with going through the paper work to mod them legally. The Las Vegas shooting was done by a man who had been planning this for YEARS, and he had even told people that he was gonna do something like this, but the FBI refused to investigate, saying that they didn't have enough evidence, because he never said it on social media. The government had him on their watchlist, but when it came down to it, they did nothing to stop him until he shot and killed people.

    Mark, I am a soldier currently serving overseas. I, too, grew up around guns. And of course, I have experience firsthand working with all kinds of weapons. I appreciate your honesty. I respect the way that you approached this. I just want to state, however, that "assault rifles", as in ACTUAL assault rifles require a specialized license to purchase. An AR15 is not an assault rifle. Believe me. An assault rifle, by the militarys definition, at least, is any small arms weapon that is capable of burst or automatic rates of fire. Most ARs semiautomatically fire .203, an average hunting caliber. In fact, the reason they are considered assault rifles by a vast majority of the public is due to the appearance, and the misinformation that they're the only weapons available that can house 30 round magazines. Which is not true. Remington has several models of what many refer to as "hunting rifles" that can house the same size magazine, and can actually fire larger caliber rounds, making them more lethal than your average AR. You can get an extended clip for any handgun, which can actually be fired quicker than an AR due to less resistance on the trigger squeeze. The concept of what an assault rifle really is changes dramatically for a person when they see what other regions, such as the middle east, considers an assault rifle. I, myself, carry an m249, squad automatic weapon. An lmg, basically. Carrying that around, then going home and firing my AR15 at the range outlines the difference in what people think makes an assault weapon, and what ACTUALLY makes one. Believe me, I understand the fear people are feeling. But you have to understand, not everything that's scary looking is actually evil. AR15s essentially are just designed in such a way to promote comfort while holding one, due to the pistol grip, as well to provide a platform that allows easily exchangeable attachments, such as lights, scopes, and etc on the rail system ARs have on the hand guards and upper receiver. They are actually, typically, no more dangerous than the handguns many people keep in an unlocked drawer beside their bed. I hope you read this. I don't expect you to change your mind. Just keep this in mind. Thanks for all you do, Mark. Thank you for caring. But most importantly, thank you for being honest.

      To be fair, “assault rifles” are not necessarily “banned”. You can still get them and make them, but it takes a lot of money. You need to get the licenses to just buy the guns but you also need to figure out how to pay for the guns (examples would include old Type-56’s and MP-43’s, both of which are very expensive). An easier way to obtain “assault rifles” is to become an SOT dealer and make them yourself. Of course, there are regulations and the running theme of costing lots of money. As an SOT dealer, you could convert your cheap AR-15s into full-auto.

    On October 2nd, 2017 I woke up to a texts from my parents saying they were in lockdown at their hotel. Confused, I checked the news to discover that one the worst mass shootings in American history happened right outside the hotel my parents were staying at. The entire day I had "what if" thoughts over what could have happened that night, and I'm so thankful that my parents were safe. When my parents came home (my mom was there for nursing certification training) they told me and my sister's stories of the people they met that were directly affected by the shooting, and my heart broke to hear what those poor people went through.
    Fast forward to Febuary 14, 2018 when an armed shooter kills 17 people and injures many more at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. Just hearing about the fear those students felt and watching those videos was sickening and I had all of those students in my thoughts and prayers, and was crying when I saw their reactions because I'm a highschool student and no one my age should EVER have to go through that.
    This past Monday night I was at a hockey game with my parents because my dad got some free tickets at work. Part of the way through the game both of my parents get phone calls from my school corporation warning about a possible security threat the next day. The next morning my parents called me and my sister's off (the Las Vegas shooting has mentally scared my mom) of school because someone had sent in a bomb and shooting threat. The police were investigating it, but I spent the entire day in fear wondering if the next time I saw some of my friends would be at their funeral. The threat turned out to not be serious, but this happened not even a week after the tradegy in Florida. One of my friends who went was texting me the entire day that almost no one was at school, but she was afraid. One of her closest friends from when she lived across the country had attempted to shoot up a library in her home town last year, and I was on the receiving end of her panicked phone calls and texts when she didn't understand why he would do that.
    I understand that people want their rights protected. People should have the rights to protect themself, and I understand don't want to change what their constitutional rights say. What I don't understand is why I'm now afraid to walk into school every day because of a shooter. I don't understand why every morning I fear that the kiss I give my mother on the cheek and the hug I give my father might be the last time I ever do that. I don't understand why I'm afraid every "I love you" my sister's say to me might be the last time I hear their voices. The biggest thing I don't understand is when a happy place full of wonder and education became a war zone I feel I might never return to.
    I know this is just a long rant of a teenager, but listen to me when I say this. I don't want guns *BANNED*, I want gun *CONTROL*. I want checks to make sure that a weapon that could /KILL/ someone doesn't end up in the hands of someone who would kill. I want mental illnesses to be cared for and treated.
    I just don't want to be afraid anymore.
    Sincerely, the rant of a 15 year old student

Yes it is. Isn’t an AR15 an anatimate object, which means not living or breathing so basically not a human being or animal? Yes that is also true. So an AR15 cannot assault since it is not a human. It is a striped down version for public use. The modification of the AR15 into a fully automatic rifle like the AR16 is illegal and heavily regulated by the ATF. If I were to stick some larger capacity magazines on my old beat up Remington 760 (your stereotypical hunting rifle) I could let off as many rounds as fast as an AR15. The only substantial difference is that the AR15 *looks* scary so it gets a lot of media attention.

      And there is a point where people no longer need guns for self defense. Ever thought tasers never existed? Ever thought about the numerous sociopaths, rich, damaged people who feel like they need a gun? If people like Nickolas Cruz are to exist, one must ensure they cannot get their hands on a gun. The smart people who know to defend themselves, are secure in their ability to live life happily, regardless of their class should have rights to a gun, however one cannot ignore the time we live in and how killing someone can be better done by incapacitation, where a person with a gun can be charged for his crimes without a shot being fired. There is a reason why the right to own a gun is second only to the right of free speech, pursuit of happiness and for those kids to work together, protest the hell they live in. They lived through it, you cannot deny that.

      Yes I can. Violent crime is at an all time low in the US, and for every violent crime committed with a gun, there are at least 2 to 10 people who defend themselves with one. And for every firearm related homicide, that number is 50 to 300.

    I love ya, but... Well first, Remember the san bernandino shooting that happened a few years ago, not too far from where you live In CA? It was with aks if I remember correctly, Which are banned in CA under the assault rifles ban. Bans only stop honest people. Do you think somebody going to shoot up a school would say "Oh dang, I can't do that, this gun I have is banned, I'll go to jail"? California's gun crime rates should be enough proof banning guns won't stop people from getting them. They'll still have them, and we'll have less to save ourselves.
    Second, easier to buy a gun than a car. You live in California, have you tried to buy a gun in the last year or so? In california, you first have to get certified to buy a firearm by getting a fsc, or firearm safety certificate. Then, go to the store and buy it, fill out more paperwork, your 4473 and registry of sale paperwork, submit to a background check and 10 day waiting period, go through a handling demonstration by someone trained to do so, then you finally get the gun. Want ammo? all that shit (except the handling demonstration) every time(except certification. that's once every 5 years or so)
    Why am I focussing on CA? Because even with all of that, CA is one of, if not the state with the most gun control laws in the union, and still one of the worst for gun violence. It just doesn't work

      Trevor Turnbow not yet in Commiefornia. Just went to two gun stores today and yesterday, one well known and another smaller Chinese owned one. Plenty of semi autos on sale, including AKs. One of the AKs on the wall for sale was a WASR. But at the rate that Commiefornia’s going with its leftist and regressive agenda, all semi autos including handguns may eventually be banned from purchase. Then democrats will be happy when Commiefornia becomes like England, with an increase in knife attacks that eventually bring about more death than handguns and way more than rifles...including scary, evil, horrible, black rifles with adjustable stocks and pistol grips. We all know that it’s those doggone pistol grips and adjustable stocks that are causing crimes, high-blood pressure, heart attacks and death.

    • @egmjag
      @egmjag 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Trevor Turnbow I think you’re confusing semi autos with select fire. Select fire require an enormous paper trail, lots of money and a tax stamp. I think only millionaires have them as private citizens. Select fire rifles were banned in 1938 or thereabouts. Semi autos like handguns are not banned but semi auto rifles might be banned in some areas. They recently tried banning them somewhere in Illinois but the court struck down that ruling a few days ago.

    Being in the military, it's hard to take the perspective of someone who isn't so I usually caution myself with what I say and always stay open minded when it comes to these topics. I will, however, say that when I was in highschool, we had a student body of 3,600 students. We also had security guards at every entrance who's job was never to hassle students(and they never did), but to stand guard to make sure no person or persons would attempt an attack on the people inside. These guards were all retired police officers and military veterans and they carried hanguns(concealed). This resulted in me not once worrying about being in any kind of life threatening danger while I was going about my normal day at school. This is all personal opinion spoken from personal experience, but for my school, at least, I know the students always felt safe and secure. Not only that but it made me feel proud that my school was creating jobs for retired and honorably or medically discharged police officers and military veterans.

Make a mental health and full comprehensive background check a part of the gun buying process. AT LEAST give gun registry the same process as cars, a practice and written test and a license that must be renewed. As far as the illegal trade of firearms, take some of the massive budget that the military gets (or that the top 1 percent got, but that's a different can of worms) and give it to the FBI or the CIA or whomever to make a task force solely devoted to the illegal gun trade.

    *has a background and history with guns*
    *wants to ban "assault rifles"*
    Do your research on what "assault rifles" are before proposing a blanket ban on a type of weapon that cannot be properly classified by the words "assault rifle". Are you referring to AR-15s and other .223 rifles? Do you mean all semi-automatic rifles? Just simply stating that you want to ban "assault rifles" tells me you fall for the word play of the side you support (like how conservatives call liberals "gun grabbers") and that you have no defined proposal.
    Now I'm going to assume you are referring to firearms that some people would call "assault rifles" like the AR-15. Why do you support a ban on a weapon class that is only a small percentage of the murders in America. Why not ban semi-automatic handguns too, since handguns are used the most in armed murder. What about shotguns? They have incredible stopping power and can do way more damage than an AR-15. How about .22 "plinker" gun? With a gun that shoots such small caliber bullets, it's quite easy for someone to create a high capacity magazine for these, making it just as lethal as an AR-15.
    You either need to admit you want to ban all guns, or admit that you just want to do what is politically advantageous.

    Mark, I respect you very much but... these aren’t even assault rifles, no mass shooting (or any killing) has ever been committed with aussalt rifles in the United States, an AR-15 is a armalite rifle design 15, it is the exact same as a Mini 14, look up a picture of one, and there are plenty of semi auto rifles out there, an assault rifle is a selective fire rifle that has the fire mode of either burst or full auto (look up differences) AR-15s aren’t the problem, it’s evil people, and I don’t understand why people won’t except that fact. Let me give you a scenario: there is a small little kid being bullied at school, beaten up by a few bigger older kids, now the kid just deals with it contentiously, or he fights back, or others come to help him and fight back with him. Now the bullies leave him alone. This is the same concept with no weapon zones, these kinds of tradgedies often happen in these zones because the shooter knows there’s no threat, that’s why myself and others who truly care for their families and others will run the risk of being caught with a weapon on these properties, it is 100% Worth it, I feel so much better and safer when I have my knife wit me at school or anywhere for that matter, and the thing about people saying that the 2nd amendment was meant for muskets is completely wrong, they specifically state all fire arms, that is why any weapon ban is infringing on our unalienable rights. I don’t have to explain all of what I just did, it is simply my right to defend my self, even with a fully automatic belt fed M249 SAW if I so chose. The very existence of the 2nd amendment allows all of our other amendments the survive, and yes we 100% would WIN a civil war with our government because you typically need about 5-10% of the population to participate in a revolution but in the US we estimate that we would have 30% willing to actually fight, so We can debate anything you would like, but when you start saying that you want to take away my unalienable rights, then we have a problem, and that’s why we get defensive over it, and if you want examples then look at Australia, or Great Britain! There crime rates have sky rocketed since they band weapons. So I hope I can at least change 1 persons mind with this, because that would be a step in the right direction. So have a good day and enjoy your freedoms that WE protect

      For me, my family were once gun owners. But then about 17 years ago, my father was shot during work. He's alive today, but back then there was much uncertainty and pain that he would not survive. But worse still was that his attackers were our very own neighbors.

    I agree with you about doing everything to protect our kids. Here's my thing, agree or disagree with me. I'm not for outright banning guns as the first option, by that I do not mean all guns, I just mean in general. The reason for this, is because there would be a lot of backlash and It would only stir things up. What I would like to see, is something I am sure most people would agree with.
    I would like to look at every step that has lead up to this event, I want to see exactly where we can improve at each step. I want to know where we failed, where it went wrong. Because removing the end result doesn't remove every chain reaction that lead to it. Where did this kid go wrong? What happened to him? What could we have done better to stop him from doing this?
    That's what I want to see, because I've been down the dark road, I've had thoughts of hurting myself and others. I know why it happened to me. I was not in a good place in my life, I was very depressed, I had a lot of chemical imbalances in my brain and that is one reason, I, personally, will never own a gun. Because I know I will hurt myself if I ever get into that mindset again.
    I don't care what your stance on guns is, if you are super pro second amendment or if you're full on get rid of them all. I think we can all agree, that our kids deserve better. They deserve to be protected at every stage. AND if you believe that, than please, believe me when I say, we need to figure out where it all went wrong, because that's how we prevent anything like this from happening.
    If we don't solve the problem of what lead to this event... removing the tools will just change the weapon used. We know this from people who use bombs, home made pipe bombs, pressure cooker bombs, acid attacks, knife attack, van attacks, car attacks... Where did it go wrong? What can we fix? How can we stop it?

    Why is no one talking about how parents and schools need to help troubled kids so they won’t think about shooting people? This problem is multi-faceted. Everyone is wanting the “how” to be fixed, but what about the “why”. Unfortunately, as usual, people are going to focus their energy on something that “someone else” (government, lawmakers) has to fix. Then they can pat themselves on the back and say, “ Oh what a great job we’ve done. Problem solved.” Meanwhile, there are still kids out there who need help, but won’t get it.
    Schools have a shitty track record when it comes to helping kids with emotional/psychological problems.
    I know this for a fact. My youngest brother had many behavior problems at school. Instead of trying to figure out why he was misbehaving, the school administration labeled him as “learning disabled” and put him in a special needs class. He eventually quit school as soon as he could legally do so. He has had many problems throughout his adulthood, including alcoholism, teen parenthood and being in jail more than once. If the teachers and other school staff had bothered to find out the reasons for my brother’s horrible behavior, they would have discovered a very dysfunctional household complete with alcoholism and abuse. Something could have been done about that (removal from the toxic environment, counseling, etc.) Perhaps his adult life would have been better. He’s okay for now, but it has taken a long time (he’s 42) for him to get it right.
    Btw, I had already moved away when all this crap happened, if anyone wants to ask, “Why didn’t you do anything?”

    • @kinaratundra6475
      @kinaratundra6475 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LiMar Ba are all parents made of money to spend to help there troubled kid?
      Do kids feel like they can freely tell there parents they are suffering? Troubled kids don't want to express there issues in fear they will be called weak or looked down on for trying to seek help when from the most understanding and supportive people in there life. And some parents are not accepting at all about there kid having mental issues and try to push the kid to ignore them.
      So I'm not understanding your point.

    • @limarba9062
      @limarba9062 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kimberly Grawe The point is that parents, teachers, school staff should create an environment where kids feel that they can seek help. If a kid is having trouble at home, he should feel comfortable seeking help from a teacher or guidance counselor. Teachers, coaches, and all school staff should know what to look for if they suspect a kid is having trouble.
      Parents shouldn’t have to have a bunch of money to get help for their kids. Free and low-cost mental health services exist, but there are long waits for appointments and the “help” isn’t always sufficient. This needs to be improved.
      People need to stop judging those who have mental health problems.

      braxrat317 the problem with the term “assault weapon” is that it’s far too vague to make real policy on. Anything that can be used to hurt someone could be considered an assault weapon. If people said specifically what type of gun they would like to ban, then we can actually have a conversation, but vague terms do no one any good and will lead to no change

      Giorgi Vepkhvadze I disagree with you about gun confiscation but THANK YOU for recognizing that the mental health of the murderers does have an effect. Imo it seems extremely imprudent to completely ignore the mental health aspect because if the gun is the sole factor that implies that anyone at any point could just randomly decide to shoot up a school and that people in general have no capacity for morality. However, I’m not saying that guns aren’t a facet of this either. This is an extremely complicated mental issue where morality seeming disappears from the conscious mind. I highly doubt that doing only one thing will stop any of these attacks from happening and that it’s very important to tackle this problem from multiple angles to make sure it can’t get back up again

If this topic were completely 1 sided then there wouldn’t be an issue in the first place. If there weren’t legitimate arguments and valid points for each side then there would be no dispute. If you think your side is right without acknowledging that the other side has valid points then you are wrong no matter which side you are on. If you have not cared enough to research both sides then why should anyone care about your biased opinion. But here's the thing. You know what people with military experience are really good at? Putting their lives on the line to defend their countrymen. They also happen to be really good at exterminating deadly threats. So what can we do?
    How about offering jobs as armed security guards to the ones that aren't suffering from PTSD or some other post-military-service mental disorders? Here's how it can be done:
    Numerous psychologists put their heads together to design a series of extremely thorough mental health tests that applicants must pass in order to qualify, that check for things like schizophrenia, PTSD, dissociative disorders, multiple-personality disorders, etc.
    Once these veterans start applying and passing these tests, assign at least three of them to any given school; if they're larger campuses, increase that number accordingly. (Having at least 3 will serve as a safeguard in the pretty-unlikely event that one of them manages to pass the mental health tests and then later snaps.)
    This way, when some psychopath decides to do what the people responsible for all these shootings did, they have to go through multiple armed, military-trained bodyguards first. Guess what your average gun owner isn't particularly skilled at? Taking on multiple armed, military-trained bodyguards.
    Do these things, and watch the death tolls plummet, as well as the number of unemployed/homeless veterans in our country. Two birds. One stone.

      I'm sure a lot of you are already furiously typing away about how "ridiculous" this sounds, but think about it. We leave our children with these people for 8 hours a day. We expect them to be safe. Yet when some psychopath decides they want to do shit like this, guess what? There's nothing we can do about it. Everyone at that school is powerless until the police show up.
      It can take 30 minutes or more for police to respond to a call in some areas. You know how many lives can be lost in just five minutes, let alone 30? All because 500 people were powerless against one person with a gun. That's precisely why these events continue happening, and why the death tolls are so high- because no one can do anything to stop the shooter until police show up. Your children are left totally defenseless against some murderous psychopath.
      Imagine if we had armed bodyguards employed by the government for the specific purpose of protecting children from these events. Imagine how hard it would be for someone who has gone off the deep end to even make it past the school lobby, or even have the chance to shoot one person. Imagine how many innocent lives would be saved if the shooter was neutralized right at the front door- which would be the case in a VAST majority of these situations.
      It's not rocket science. Bad guy with gun+defenseless children and faculty=lots of death. Bad guy with gun+paid military bodyguards (who almost certainly joined the military to serve their country and defend the innocent)=way less death. It really seems like a no-brainer.
