Not silly, it's a great question. A tough one to answer though. I purposely don't include strumming patterns so my students will try different things and discover their own. I suggest to strum softly until you feel comfortable and then add until your strums starts to come together. The more you practice the better it will get, I promise. Good luck and take care
Having been through this recently, I can give a little advice... I recommend NOT learning strumming patterns the way some videos present them: The up, up, up down up up down up way. You're WAY better off getting into the groove of a song and get your foot going to the beat. Once you're totally into the groove, strum along. A good strum pattern is a natural soulful one and not the exact technical one.

Strumming patterns need to be felt. Just keep strumming till you get it.
