I am currently on Koh Tao and I noticed the many empty shops and restaurants/bars. But I am still enjoying it. Meeting friends and my favourite restaurants still exist and are open. I was also here two years ago and the business already went down back then. I am addicted to come here. It feels like the home away from home and I even waited with my haircut and coming on the island with ugly hair just to know that the money that I spend here makes a difference, even when getting one haircut on the island. Bonds with the people here are getting stronger and stronger.
I started watching your channel late but when you were on the Camino. I’ve just caught up to here. Your adventure is giving me great ideas. I am iced in today so maybe I can catch up to real time. Thank you.
Which of course it is not true. If you are a good person, people will look after you very very much. I am here the 15th time right now, even with this shitty government rules. And I am enjoying it right now.
2 weeks not long enough! I have been for 3 weeks at least twice a year since 2004. Yes it's my favourite place. Bugger Covid, had to have a 2 year break.....
2 years on, Koh Tao has started overdeveloping and has lost its "charm and soul" with peak "hay days" numbers both in the hospital, on arrival and everywhere ... Scuba scene is suffering as late parties in the jungle, secluded beaches and events have taken over the island as fast easy money. You can still enjoy some private diving but once back on land its like Bali, Phuket, Samui or any place ruined by over tourism and IG chasers. There are good people on Koh Tao, fighting for a future Koh Tao but the people who own Koh Tao is chasing riches right now. And with lots of willing foreign money to invest to secure a piece of paradise - no one is thinking about the long term effects - just the cash. Ive taken my fins, mask and dog and packed up after 13 years, through natural disasters or hay days - this place has lost its special thing. Because seemingly - everyone whats the same on every island with a nice sunset and paradise-like vibes - so they serve it up :/

love this! Koh Tao is so special and so wonderful to hear it has become your home away from home.
Many people have died there. Tbh im a bit skeptical to go there but koh tao diving spot is just too beautiful to be ignored.

Koh tao island is a place where you go and never come back, it is the island of fear and death!

Nice!
Not a battleship! It's an ex US Navy gun boat, Frigate at best.
Thank you for teaching us!
This island is to be avoided.
