People didn’t see blade because it was a comic book movie, marketing did all they could to hide that fact and any connection to marvel in general, that’s why it doesn’t count: it was marketed as a straight up action/vampire movie. X-men brought straight up comic heroes into good movies, and sm furthered it while expanding into normalizing costumes. I know this is a joke comment but the 2017 Spider-Man series actually follows the second part of this and that's why it suffers. It spends to much time building a universe with constant crossovers and name drops that it forgets to tell a story.
Toei did that a lot, back in the 70s. Tatsunoko as well. Animation was never very good (yeah yeah, deadlines, I know), but Mazinger Z tai Ankoku Daishogun is still legendary to this day. Plot: Kabuto Kouji, a high school Chad by day and a super robot pilot by... different times of the day. He lives in Anywhere (real-life Atami-chou in reboot Shin Mazinger), Japan, Kouji fights against the evil robots of Doctor Hell after his grandfather dies and leaves him Mazinger Z-- an invincible mechanical monster that has the power to make Kouji a god or a devil. Kouji learns to pilot Mazinger, overcoming the difficulties of controlling the damn thing, culminating in the made-for-TV movie Mazinger Z vs The Great General of Darkness. It was here that the animation saw a drastic increase in quality, as well as pitting Kouji against his own mortality. For the first time, it's a very real possibility that Mazinger will lose against the general and his cronies. I highly reccomend the film to any comic book fans who want to get into Japanimation.
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! This took me back to being a kid watching every single one of these series in the 90s! Classic times, When the X-men teamed up with Spidey I LOST IT as a kid and me and my friends couldnt believe it happened and we talked in depth about it at recess xD, Love this video! keep up the great work
JaxBlade was the same for me as well. Its what got me into comics and marvel. Spiderman since then became one of my favorite characters and being the kid of a single mom which i know sounds silly but taught some life lessons. Also before DBZ is what made me want to workout. They all had ripped muscular bodies.
JaxBlade also featured blade, doctor strange, captain america, iron man, shield, the punisher, daredevil, and many more, this takes me back it also makes me sad cause I miss those times it was good even through the bad with the help of all my favorite cartoon shows and other shows like boy meets world family matters etc etc
Yep. You could tell that the people writing these shows were either comics alumni or comics geeks wanting to do as much justice to the characters and world building as they could given the constraints of the medium and timeslot. The fact that they managed to accomplish as much as they did despite all that is a testament to the talent and passion of everyone involved.
Because these shows created by WB animated studio,, who crate DC animated movies these days,, now full of marvel control by Disney and their animation studio,,but without games,,WB games studio still create some logo games for marvel,,,
”Reflect on the cartoons of the past that got us here” That line alone put a node in my throat and almost made me tear up. Growing up watching all those cartoons and seeing how much they contributed to the phenomenon we live today is absolutely mind blowing, much like this video. AMAZING work my man! I was looking for this kind of video for a loooong time.
Justin Conn - is it the animation style or the story telling you don’t like now? Because story-telling wise there are some great ones. Like Star Wars Rebels. Which is vertically much better than any 80s Star Wars cartoons.
Comic Power to be completely honest every animated version of storm (at least that ive seen so far) is better adaption of storm that any of the live action versions hell even xmen evolution storm i think was way better than live action
@Comic Book Kid. The Dark Phoenix movie has been pushed back to open 2019. Thats not a good sign to me! It sounds like its in trouble and they need time to fix it! I guess we have 2 more years of groaning until Disney finishes buying out Fox and the X-Men come to the MCU. So Marvel can repair all of the damage that Fox did..
90s Spiderman cartoon is still my favorite Spiderman. It aired in Germany under the name "New Spiderman" because the older Spiderman cartoons were still on re-runs on some stations! Loved the connected storylines.
The Venom symbiote arriving on earth on a meteorite in central park in Spider-man 3 felt to me to be inspired by how the symbiote returned to earth in the Spider-man the animated series episode Venom Returns where pretty much the same thing happened. Though the animated series handling of the Venom saga is far superior to Spider-man 3.
Venom was really just a cameo in that movie. They chose the main villain to be Sandman for some reason, and then cramped in a Green Goblin imposter on top of that.
RokuroCarisu could have been a build up for another movie. With Peter using the black suit to defeat sandman and green goblin and the movie ending with him getting rid of the suit and Eddie Brock getting it. Which would’ve been a decent cliffhanger for a follow up film (except Topher Grace was a terrible Eddie Brock)
Yea just stick to the first 3 and you're golden hahaha, any show that makes a money will get stretched out more then it need so it can make more money.
I loved watching Stan open the marvel action hour. It was like watching an episode of Mr. Rogers neighborhood except Stan was Like Mr. Rogers way cooler older brother.
the 90s cartoons had a huge impact because all the kids who grew up watching it are now grown up and the main audience of the movies! without the Spider-Man cartoon, i wouldn't know about Daredevil, Captain America, etc.
Yeah not the main audience. People born from around 1992 onwards were unlikely to have seen most of these series upon initial broadcast but I’d say those people are the majority of the audience. Like at least 1 in 5 of the cinema-goers/movie-viewers wont have spent their childhood in that Marvel cartoon golden era But I do agree though and definitely feel without the cartoons who knows if we’d have had the 00s cartoons or X-Men movies or Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man’s. The cartoons defo set off a snowball effect culminating with the MCU
And Amazing Spider-Man. Thor was in one episode with Loki. As well X-Men connected through Firestart and Iceman. Not to mention the costume ball that had Marvel character costumes.
@@richardmcquade6658 Captain America was in an episode (Iceman was trying to interview him as part of a school project). Tony Stark made a cameo in the episode where they explained how the three of them became a team. And never mind "connected", the X-Men appeared in at least a couple of episodes. (They tried creating an X-Men cartoon spin-off; it didn't get picked up).
I remember watching Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends back in the 80’s which would regularly include episodes with characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Nick Fury, Storm, Cyclops etc...
I brought up this same point in a comment just a few minutes ago. Heck the leads alone were a crossover. Spidey, future X Man Iceman, and Firestar who in the comics became a part time Avenger herself. So right there you have an XMan, an Avenger, and Spidey as the 3 leads.
@@vincentleone940 It was going to be The Human Torch representing the F4 at first but they wanted a female in the group so created Firestar for the series.
What about Avengers Earth Mightiest Heroes? If there was a series that had the potential to recreate the most iconic Avengers/Marvel's stories it was that one
That was the last great marvel cartoon that got cancelled because Disney wanted an avengers show that was more like the mcu and made that newer trash avengers show
This was genius i never thought of the fact that all those cartoons were connected. You are right in a way it was the original mcu. I wish marvel could make an animated universe like this again but done right.
Kendall Versus The connection is artificial, there's no real continuity across the shows except for that appearing in the Marvel Action Hour shows and Hulk. About Spider Man and X-Men, there's no proof of a real single continuity, but since both continuities don't contradict too much, it's been accepted that they occur in the same universe because of the episode "The Mutant Agenda", which loosely connects both shows. Marvel has never done it right and has tried it 3 times (Yostverse, Disney XD, and the current one).
SO GLAD I FOUND THIS VIDEO! 12:28 I remember watching this episode as a teenager (during the mid-2000s). Then, Jetix Channel aired the 90's Spiderman animated series in India! And boy Was I HOOKED BY THE SHOW! Used to watch it every day after school! As an Indian kid who had grazed through Fantastic 4, X-Men and Hulk, I was psyched by that episode. Also, that was the first time I SAW IRON MAN, AND his Suit-Up scene BLEW MY MIND. As a child, these little things have a huge impact on you, and I'm glad I got to witness this
I think another video like this but on how the Marvel Animated Universe effected the comics would be a really interesting video. The biggest influence I know of off the top of my head would be the idea of symbiotes, or at least the Venom symbiote, making the host more prone to anger and lashing out at people was introduced by Spider-Man TAS.
I'd love to make a follow-up video at some point. I didn't even get to talk about all the tie-in comics and the recent X-Men '92 comic. I did have the fact about the symbiote suit making the host more powerful and aggressive in my original script but it got cut due to time constraints. Thanks for watching!
Which he did. That last cameo was part of the crossover with other Spider-Men from various multiverses. The Spider-Man from that universe didn't have super powers and was simply an actor that told Peter to take him home and that he should look out for Stan Lee.
The opening theme song to the xmen was perfect. As soon as it started playing i got goosebumps and knew shit was about to be awesome for the next 30 minutes
Multiverse Fact: The two 90's Marvel cartoons takes place in Earth-92131, (the number 92131 means a reference to October 31, 1992, the premiere date of the first episode of X-Men: The Animated Series). Speaking of 92131, the Marvel Action Hour cartoons takes place in Earth-534834, which is a separate universe to the primary 90's Marvel.
@@SonnyBCreative Capcom was making Marvel fighting games using this universe and voice actors starting with X-Men Children of the Atom in 94. This universe's style is iconic to a lot of people from the games alone.
For those of you that have the possibility, please give the 2nd Season of Fantastic 4 Show a try. The animation is so much better than in the first Season and its a really, really great show. Especially the episodes where the Fantastic 4 team up with Galactus to stop Ego or team up with Thor and Ghost Rider to stoo Galactus are outstanding in my opinion.
rshadio Some of it. A lot of stories they did predated Lee (Jim, not Stan) being at Marvel. The characters used were from the (Jim) Lee era, with the exception of Morph (who I thought was created for the cartoon for the sole purpose of being killed off because of how generic a character he and his powers were--turns out he was in the comics for a long time a while back).
I remember Spiderman: The Venom Saga where we saw not just Spidey, Venom, and Carnage, but also Iron Man, War Machine, Baron Mordo, and Dormammu.

@@geeebuttersnap2433Where did I mention that Blade was the first Black superhero? What does Spawn have to do with the MCU? He isn’t even Marvel. What does Venom have to with anything? Did you actually even read my comment properly?? 😂
The blade movie does 100% owe itself to tas though, blade in the comics is like a third or fourth tier supporting character in tomb of Dracula.

Thank you X-MEN for paving the way to cinematic universes. The first one to kickstarted the boom of comicbook movies in this century.
Actually, Blade came out 2 years before X-Men, but everyone conveniently forgets about that r-rated gem.

@@SA80TAGE True, but Blade isn't a conventional superhero, he just hunts vampires. Technically Howard the Duck was the first Marvel character to receive a cinematic outing in 1986 but was silly and best forgotten really.
@@richardrichard688 ah so you're just going to ignore the first Captain America film released in 1979 then. Good stuff. I don't know myself if that was the first one, but Howard the Duck sure wasn't.
@@richardrichard688 Oh wait scratch that, there was a Captain America movie way back in 1944 lol..... but at least I got the character right.
Yep, I hear 1990’s voices of peter parker and J.J. When I read the comics.
kazemizu for me, I hear JJ as J.K Simmons
For me i hear josh Keaton as peter
I hear Yuri Lowenthal for Spidey
J.K. Simmons as JJJ
The whole 90’s X-Men is how you imagine the X-Men IMO
And a whole lot more voices I like
Moral of the story ... don't skimp on the animation or the story line and always crossover characters and name drop.
I know this is a joke comment but the 2017 Spider-Man series actually follows the second part of this and that's why it suffers. It spends to much time building a universe with constant crossovers and name drops that it forgets to tell a story.
Jordan DeHart i mean the advertising was so extra but did they really have to reference the mcu every 3 scenes
Spider-Man TAS was really the one to feature other Marvel Characters...
that and series like Iron-Man & Fantastic Four season 2's.
If you build it, they will come
“Stan Lee’s universe” was awesome in my opinion.
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL VIDEO! This took me back to being a kid watching every single one of these series in the 90s! Classic times, When the X-men teamed up with Spidey I LOST IT as a kid and me and my friends couldnt believe it happened and we talked in depth about it at recess xD, Love this video! keep up the great work
JaxBlade same stared buying comics that had team ups after that
JaxBlade was the same for me as well. Its what got me into comics and marvel. Spiderman since then became one of my favorite characters and being the kid of a single mom which i know sounds silly but taught some life lessons. Also before DBZ is what made me want to workout. They all had ripped muscular bodies.
oh yes, i remember that too! and hearing the Xmen theme inside an episode of Spiderman TAS was soo damn hot!
Xmen and spider man animated was the shit. Was the best marvel had
Secret wars story arch was so cool
I liked Iron Man too
Because these shows created by WB animated studio,, who crate DC animated movies these days,, now full of marvel control by Disney and their animation studio,,but without games,,WB games studio still create some logo games for marvel,,,
Agree but don't forget on Spectacular Spider-man man

”Reflect on the cartoons of the past that got us here”
That line alone put a node in my throat and almost made me tear up. Growing up watching all those cartoons and seeing how much they contributed to the phenomenon we live today is absolutely mind blowing, much like this video. AMAZING work my man! I was looking for this kind of video for a loooong time.
This video is absolutely fantastic, well scripted, to the point and superbly researched! Thanks for this video man it was incredibly insightful!

The 90s spiderman cartoon will always be my favorite super hero cartoon. Great video, man
GQ Design Studio then try watching spectacular spider-man. I, being a hardcore 90-s Spidey fan, was really surprised of the quality of the show
The good old days when Saturday mornings had cartoons
Grow up
Technically every morning has cartoons now.... and every afternoon... and evening. Plus if you factor in Netflix the middle of the night too :-)
The stuff on today aren't cartoons. It's not good at all
Justin Conn - is it the animation style or the story telling you don’t like now? Because story-telling wise there are some great ones. Like Star Wars Rebels. Which is vertically much better than any 80s Star Wars cartoons.
Even weekdays after school doenst have cartoons now...
17:42 Naaaaaah, just go to Disney plus. Still with the cereal though.
This comment should take top spot.
As soon as the X-Men theme started, my hairs stood on end and I got a shiver. Iconic.
Seph Bentos Music by Michael Kamen, the maestro from Metallica S&M.
One of the great theme songs
It was the ‘90s Spider-Man theme that did it for me. That was simply the one I remember watching first as a kid, but I know exactly what you mean.
As soon as the first note of the X-Men intro started playing, instant head banger mode.
The Storm we got in the animated form was excellent. The two different versions we got in live action were not so impressive..
Comic Power I feel like Xmen Apocalypse Storm can be redeemed in the Dark phoenix movie if it's good.
shit dude, all of the X-men we got in the animated show outclassed their live action versions except Hugh Jackman who just always seemed to get it....
that's true, it makes an X-Men fan like me want to just start making videos about how I would make the movies.
@2:02 that lick in the theme song...so iconic!
Lick?

IMO, I find Spectacular Spider-Man having the best Venom Saga. God I miss that show
RPV Why would they have made a movie with the black costume and not feature Venom?
Shockwaves 97 Spiderman the animated series was the best hands down
RokuroCarisu could have been a build up for another movie. With Peter using the black suit to defeat sandman and green goblin and the movie ending with him getting rid of the suit and Eddie Brock getting it. Which would’ve been a decent cliffhanger for a follow up film (except Topher Grace was a terrible Eddie Brock)
When I was a kid I had a feeling they were all connected and then X-Men met Spider-Man I literally flipped
The nostalgia is real in this video! &
That into and logo is top notch btw, I love it!
Salvatore Anzalone this is why kids never have any good cartoons anymore this is a good example of good sat morning cartoons
Salvatore Anzalone I just got chills!
The animated X-Men show was so much better than the live action movies.
Dude, that final season was ass though.
Yea just stick to the first 3 and you're golden hahaha, any show that makes a money will get stretched out more then it need so it can make more money.
It was because they went bankrupt. After that the Marvel comic artists couldn't legally work on the cartoons.
It was one of my favorite cartoons. The first being Justice League
Jubilee
That Secret Wars arc was pretty legendary at that time, since its never been done before
Spider-man the animated series is what got me into comics as a kid :))
Kaitlyn Jade that was the best Spiderman cartoon ever.
Not to sound weird sis but we look exactly the same wtf
" Hey tin woodsman!" I'm sending you back to OZ...... in pieces...
I wish they worked that into the modern films.
90s Xmen animated was so great
I loved watching Stan open the marvel action hour.
Like at least 1 in 5 of the cinema-goers/movie-viewers wont have spent their childhood in that Marvel cartoon golden era
But I do agree though and definitely feel without the cartoons who knows if we’d have had the 00s cartoons or X-Men movies or Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man’s. The cartoons defo set off a snowball effect culminating with the MCU
OMG! that X-men theme is a hard hit of nostalgia.
You need to check out Spider-Man and Friends, that was the MCU in the '80s!!!
And Amazing Spider-Man. Thor was in one episode with Loki. As well X-Men connected through Firestart and Iceman. Not to mention the costume ball that had Marvel character costumes.
Spider-friends move out!
I loved that show as a kid
@@richardmcquade6658 Captain America was in an episode (Iceman was trying to interview him as part of a school project).
Tony Stark made a cameo in the episode where they explained how the three of them became a team.
And never mind "connected", the X-Men appeared in at least a couple of episodes.
(They tried creating an X-Men cartoon spin-off; it didn't get picked up).
and the marvel super heroes show was the mcu of the 60's

"Seeing Spidey guest-star on TV with so many other Marvel characters is a unique feature that only my series will ever have".

yeah but in todays cartoons the plot is so weak that it screws with anyone and everyone who watched the originals.

My 2000's self went to watch the 1990's iron man cartoons and I think I haven't been that happy since my first ever video game.
I remember watching Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends back in the 80’s which would regularly include episodes with characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Nick Fury, Storm, Cyclops etc...
When wolverine had an Australian accent lol
This guy wasn't around in the 80s he thinks all this was only done In the 90s 🤣
Yeah, but then Hank Pym got shafted.
Maravillante yeah but then sadly Disney bought Marvel and made them cancel it
That Avengers series alone was better than most of Disney's MCU........in my opinion, that is.
Kendall Versus I mean we had ultimate spiderman and hulk and the agents of smash. They were in the same universe
ReblazeGaming true but it just wasnt nowhere near as good as this. There universe had too many flaws and shows were mostly bad
I thought this universe have about.... three our four multiverse?
Yea
Kendall Versus The connection is artificial, there's no real continuity across the shows except for that appearing in the Marvel Action Hour shows and Hulk. About Spider Man and X-Men, there's no proof of a real single continuity, but since both continuities don't contradict too much, it's been accepted that they occur in the same universe because of the episode "The Mutant Agenda", which loosely connects both shows. Marvel has never done it right and has tried it 3 times (Yostverse, Disney XD, and the current one).
That x-men music gave me goosebumps. I still have my vhs tapes of episodes haha
Me too but still bought all the DVDs.
This is my childhood! Nothing compares to the 90’ animated X-Men - I’m rewatching them now on Disney +

90's MCU is really something that stan lee would have approved of.
Which he did. That last cameo was part of the crossover with other Spider-Men from various multiverses. The Spider-Man from that universe didn't have super powers and was simply an actor that told Peter to take him home and that he should look out for Stan Lee.
Lol would have? He was part of it 😆

For those of you that have the possibility, please give the 2nd Season of Fantastic 4 Show a try. The animation is so much better than in the first Season and its a really, really great show. That X-men series I never missed one episode. And yes it was straight from the Jim lee version of X-men comics
rshadio Some of it.
