    Bambi's big eyes have a legacy of their own - Osamu Tedzuka, the "godfather" of anime, had reportedly watched Bambi around 80 times, and it was he who set the trend of large, dewy eyes in Japanese animation.

    Oh gosh. The feels! Too strong! What really jerks the tears in this one is how attached you become to Bambi through his expressiveness and relatability. He's an everyman hero, except he's a deer! He experiences friendship, love and loss just like the audience. That makes him incredibly effective as a protagonist and completely sells the film. Plus the art is just GORGEOUS! Maybe the most beautiful animation ever done.

    Fun Fact: Bambi actually inspired Hayao Miyazaki to become an animator. Heck he even sketch every single seen as a kid and he still has those papers to this vary day.

    Bambi's mother's death was horrible but I really do think that the pheasant dying, the 'Man' scenes, and Bambi's fight with Ronno was a bit more intense and at some points, felt rather 'Alfred Hitchcock'-ish in the tension and emotions of the animals, all felt very human and realistic.

      perhaps they should have put a grizzly bear as the menacing protagonist and killer of the animals instead of a hunter

    I love Bambi! The colors are great, the animation is great, the characters are great, the music is great, and just magical. I love the ice skating scene, and the grown up Bambi and grown up Feline meet scene.

    I L-O-V-E Bambi so much! My top movie when it comes to just how beautifull it is and simple. I think becuse to me the movie symbolies life, The song that never ends, continues with a new one. Sort of teaching you that there are things that are scary but also things that are wonderful. And that is what life is, good and bad. You can´t have a life without the other. And man poor Walt, lucky he was in charge or else he whould never get to make any of this movie´s.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ahturo s It really isn't a far stretch to say that the movie of Bambi does symbolize life. The music, the seasons, how things look bleak in the winter and then are reborn in the spring, ups and downs of life. It definitely makes Bambi one of the more powerful movies Disney released

    Ironically, the pheasant who died was actually voiced by the woman who played Bambi’s mother. She got to die twice.
    Oh well, if she reincarnated once she can reincarnate again. :P

    As I said before Bambi is close to Dumbo in my likability for Walt Disney's first five movies. One thing I like about Bambi is the same thing I love about Pinocchio: the use of child actors. When a star child is voiced by a rea child, it makes that child more believable than if that same child was voiced by an adult. That's what I love about child actors. Also, while I would love hand-drawn animation either way, and while I personally prefer cartoony animation over realistic animation, I do appreciate Walt Disney's work in animating realistic animals. As for the story, I see multiple similarities to my favorite non-Disney movie, The Land Before Time (especially the death of Bambi's mother). This does help me like the story, but personally, I prefer to settle for The Land Before Time.

    so tonight i watched this movie for the first time (that i can remember at least) and, wow. what a film. i actually found Bambi's mom dying a little underwhelming, maybe because it's always talked about, and you expect it to be like, heart-wrenching, but it's just... sad. not Dumbo swinging back and forth on his imprisoned mother's trunk sad (i nearly cried, and i'm not afraid to admit it) but sad. the movie is so beautifully animated though, and Thumper is so hilarious, it's... not... funny... wait, what. 9/10. also, i love the Fantasia-ey bits in it, like the when Bambi fights the other male deer. classic!

    I have to say that of all the movies that Walt produced, Bambi is the most flawless. It really moves at a great pace with minimal filler and feels the most timeless with it only focusing on forest life and animals. It also is the most realistic movie.

  • @justoutofframemoviereviews656

    The dragon's name was Elliot; Pete was the boy. That aside, Disney marketers like to pretend only the first part of this film exists and that the loss of innocence and jeopardy of the second part should not be referenced. Also, the animation from Bambi was "raided" frequently for use in later movies. The lightning filled wrap-up for the "April Shower" segment was my favorite part. Good reviewing.

  • @IreneShardaForever

    The music and the art are the stars of this movie. The movie looks like a moving painting in some scenes and it is so beautiful, and the music....the theme for Man still is one of the most haunting scary themes that I've ever heard. I had forgotten how scary and foreboding it actually was until you played it again in this video.

    Ahhh yes-my favorite Disney film. So much powerful imagery, an awesome main character who anyone can relate to and it's just a 'life movie' as I call it. No fairy tale stuff, just 'the life of a deer'. However-the book is way better than this movie in terms of plot and realism.
    However, this movie still gets to me even though I haven't watched it since I was probably 6 (in my 20's now) :)

    Well, in some respects, Sydney Franklin's dream of making "Bambi" live action is garanteed to happen with Disney's plan to make every animated classic live action. If a "live action 'Lion King'" is in the works even though technically it is computer animation, I'm sure "Bambi" isn't too far fetched in today's world.

    For Snow White, the connectors were The Wicked Witch and Dopey.
    Nothing for Pinocchio or Fantasia.
    For Dumbo,the connectors were the Delivery Stork,Timothy Q. Mouse, and the Crows.
    For Bambi,it was Thumper.

    This is my favourite Disney animation film. It's just stunning to watch. I think it was well written as well. Coming from a hunting family the story does not bother me at all. Just as lion's eat meat so do we unless your a vegetarian...... Each to their own! Anyways there are some unresponsible hunters that do not follow the law and I believe this film shows it. I believe my take away from this film is to be a responsible Hunter take only what you need and respect nature and all the little critters in the forest.

    We can see how much Walt Disney loved Bambi because the film maintains the spirit of Salten's novel(which I read the same year I saw the movie).Not only have I read Bambi,but over the years I read other Salten novels-like Bambi's Children, Perri (which Disney based a live nature movie on),Fifteen Rabbits(in which Bambi has a small role)and The Hound of Florence(which inspired The Shaggy Dog).
    I give Walt Disney full credit for all I know about Felix Salten.:-)

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah, Walt definitely didn't make projects unless he was in love with them, and it tends to show. And hey, if Salten kept writing good stories, Disney was going to keep running with them. Worked for Bambi haha

    This film was my favorite Disney film for a short while. (But that was mostly because I really liked forest animals back then) Watching it again has caused me to look at this movie a bit differently. As apposed to a story with a definite plot, I now begin to view this film more like a dance or a ballet. Everything is done so gracefully, and the film has parts that move the story along, but not enough to feel very constant. When I view the movie in this light, it helps me to better understand the film a little. (Sorry if you have no idea what I mean by the whole "dance" thing. It was just the best way I could think of to describe what I meant)

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I kinda like the dance metaphor, because it makes sense. Not the first time that nature and dance are thought of together, and it is a pretty good way to describe the plot

    I actually really like Bambi for what it is. I love that you get to see Bambi as a kid first, then as adult, it kind of shows how much Bambi might have learn in the past, and I agree with everyone when they it teaches kids about life, which I agree. The animation once again it's nice, though it feels more like a storybook art, then what we see from Snow White or Pinocchio, it's not a bad thing, and it still looks nice.
    Fun Fact I found out that the Chinese animator is still alive, look up and you made be in for a shock.

    Bambi was-take a wild guess-yet another Disney film I watched often. I enjoyed it fine. Friend Owl is very funny. To be honest, the death of Bambi's mother never really affected me as a kid, nor does it today. I know, I know, that means I'm a cold-hearted bastard, but I'm sorry, it didn't. I don't even remember it from watching it as a kid until it was brought up. Nowadays, I really don't think much of the film. It's ok, but I don't think it's something I'll be watching anytime soon.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I definitely remember watching the scene of Bambi's mother being shot, but I wouldn't say it affected me really. I think it's one of those things where I grew up watching the Renaissance films, and after you watch Mufasa die, your childhood has already been traumatized, so an offscreen death doesn't do much
