    The Jungle Book is such a great film and definitely one of the best disney movies. It so interesting finding out the story behind it though, I just absolutely *love* these videos. I find them all so interesting so thank you for making them! Do you know any books that also go into the history of the Disney movies and the stories behind them? I'd love to learn more.

    I think the jungle book looks great, sounds great, has many fun characters. But Mowgli deserves a nomination for the Darwin award. "Run? Why should I run?" :)

    The same people who voiced Kaa & Mowgli also voiced Winnie the Pooh & Christopher Robin respectively. So whenever I see vids of the scenes between Kaa & Mowgli, some of the commentors report having thought as kids something like, Oh no! Winnie the Pooh is about to eat Christopher Robin!

    Thus the Golden Age ( I consider it lasting from 1937 to 1967) ends and we enter the Dark Ages, which is honestly one of my least favorite eras, along with the post Disney Renaissance. I must say that the Golden Age contains more of my favorite films then any other era. Six of them being in my top ten favorite Disney movies (Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, and The Jungle Book, all of which have a 10 rating from me. Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, Fantasia, and possibly Lady and the Tramp will be given a 10 rating upon another viewing). Also, a fun fact about Verna Felton. She actually began her Disney career (at least within the Disney Canon) as two elephants (the elephant matriarch and Mrs. Jumbo), followed by the Fairy Godmother, the Queen of Hearts, Aunt Sarah, Flora (though there is no official record of who voiced her, it is suggested that she also voiced the Queen, who is referred to as Leah, in Sleeping Beauty) and ended her career as an elephant (Winifred). Sadly, Felton passed away the day before Disney.

    The Jungle Book joins Pinocchio, Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp on my list of my ten favorite Disney movies; this time at #7. First of all, despite the different personalities Bagheera and Baloo have, I like how much compassion they show for Mowgli. Baloo wants Mowgli to e happy, while Bagheera cares for Mowgli's safety. They both want what is best for Mowgli. I also must confess that I see the jungle as a beautiful place to see. I am actually convinced this would be a good setting for dinosaur movies and Indiana Jones movies as well. Finally, I should not have to say I love the voice acting. I absolutely adore the child voice of Bruce Reitherman as Mowgli, but even the adult actors like Sterling Holloway, J Pat O'Malley, George Sanders and Phil Harris are able to impress me.

    I'd say that The Jungle Book is within my top ten of my favorite Disney Movies. Although I have seen a Russian animated version of the Jungle Book that is closer to the original source material, there is a charm and an energy to Disney's version makes it fun to watch. Plus Disney's spin Shere Khan was better than Russian one and by extension Kipling because it turned a crippled cowardly bully of a tiger in a dangerous force you do not want to mess with. I really enjoyed the voice performance of Shere Khan by George Sanders, he just had that perfect deep and sophisticated voice needed for the character :)

    I happened to read Kipling's original stories a year before the Disney movie came out. This movie had little in common with Kipling's books, but it did have some good songs and fine characterizations. I feel,however,that Disney could have been a little more faithful without sacrificing songs and style.

    I've been looking forward to seeing your review on this one... It's always been one of my favorites if not my favorite. The music is the Sherman Brothers at their best, the animation is gorgeous (I always think back to a wonderful scene of just a waterfall running), and as you said the characters are all beautifully textured. Normally I'd be upset about something deviating so much from the source material, but the result is so good that I just don't care.

    This was one of my sister's and my favorite movies growing up. I was always a fan of the music coming from this film, and Baloo was always one of my favorite characters. I have a feeling that this was a good movie to Disney to trust in working on. As sad as it is for him to die so young like that, this movie did put Disney back on the map in the sixties.

    (Claps hands) Bravo, bravo, what a splendid video! Out of all you have done so far, this one really, really hit me in the heart. Wow. I can´t belive it. Right when you talked about the characters how they make the movie. Suprising I did´t think about it like that. Becuse when I watch the movie I can feel it is segmented but still having a coesive story. Now some fun Swedish facts. This movie is the number one watched movie in Sweden. They recently made a top 25 of the amount of vivewers, not money payed for the tickets. First 1965 Sound of Music got 3,4 milion people in the theatre. Sweden had something around 9 milion people total. Then Jungle Book broke that record with 4,9 milion people watching the movie. And basically with Disneys christmast special"From all of us" playing every christmast on tv families are always seeing that wonderful scene when Baloo meets Mowgli every year. And this was the really first movie in Sweden to have a big star cast for the voices too. Our Swedish Baloo Beppe Wolgers. Was basically made for Baloo you can´t belive it.

    The Jungle Book is yet another one I remember from childhood. It's always just so much fun to watch. Great animation and voice acting.
    Even though I am a huge Beatles fan, I do agree that it wouldn't have fit the film well had they played a rock and roll tune. Definitely would have dated the film a bit.
    Anyways, great review as usual! This is probably in my top 10 Disney films and with good reason. I think it was a great finale to Walt's legacy. It will be interesting to see where your reviews go from here considering you did put a lot of focus on Walt, but I'm sure you will keep up the good work as always.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TANMAC43 It's funny because I've heard the original demo version of "We're Your Friends" and I kinda liked it, granted, I'm also a Beatles fan so that's probably why but I can definitely agree that it would have dated it a bit.
      And yeah, it's going to be weird to do reviews and not talk about Walt, but I figure he really had been almost a non factor for films like Sleeping Beauty and Sword in the Stone, and I'm sure there's still plenty of interesting things to talk about going forward

    Nice video, very educational.
    Jungle Book is probably one of the best films Disney have ever made, even if the ending is very forced. But, for my money, it has the best line of characters in any Disney film (except for Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh) with such memorable characters as Baloo, Shere Kahn, and Kaa still being relevant even today. I'm actually a little surprised there hasn't been a ride based on this film at Animal Kingdom, y'know, kinda like a mix of "it's a small world" and Peter Pan's Flight where you go around in a boat following Mowgli's adventures.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy

    I went and read the Jungle Book after watching the movie and I have to say I like the Disney version much much more. The characters are just far more likable in the film, IMHO.
    However nothing compares to my favorite Jungle Book related thing... Tailspin! It's easily within my top ten favorite tv shows. I love characters, the retro world it creates, and the 40s serial adventure inspired stories. Though I have to admit it's shame Bagheera never shows up in the show. I guess they thought Becky was enough of a foil for Baloo. I think there could have been room for both characters though.

    The Jungle Book is my second favorite Disney animated film to have been made by Walt Disney himself, behind Fantasia. It has a good story, phenomenal songs, and memorable characters. My favorite character is Bagheera. He's kinda like a grumpier version of Jiminy Cricket. He's not sending Mowgli to the man village to be mean to him, he just wants him safe.

  • @TheAnimationAnalyst
    @TheAnimationAnalyst 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    While it isn't very faithful to its source material, Jungle Book is a pretty fun Disney film in my opinion. The characters are all lovable and memorable, the story flows fairly well for what it is, the animation, while sketchy, and a bit gulity of reusing character animations, still looks good to this day, and the songs are all pretty catchy and memorable. The climax in particular is very exciting, and it plays all of my emotions in just the right way. Another thing that strikes me as great is Shere Khan, they do a good job at establishing how threatening he is, and when he finally shows up he lives up to the expectations put forth. He's a bit cocky and overzealous, but he has the sheer power to back that confidence up. If I had to complain about anything, it'd be that Mowgli's sudden interest in actually living in the man village feels a little too rushed. I mean, one minute he's like "I'm gonna live in the jungle with Baloo." And then the moment he sees a pretty girl he's like "Fuck this shit, I'mma live in the man village." It just feels like a bit *too* sudden of a 180. If they had put a few extra minutes into that sequence, it would feel a bit more natural. I'd say the ending in general, with how rushed it is, is the only real fault the movie has. I mean, after Mowgli goes back to the man village, the movie just sort of... ends.
    But besides that though, this was one of my most watched Disney movies as a child, and I'd consider it my favorite of the Silver Age of Disney films.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +TheAnimationAnalyst Yeah, the ending was always something that I thought was odd, but when you consider that they started making the movie without an ending in mind, it makes sense. For me though, the characters and music more than makes up for a questionable ending

      +Joe The Disney Guy If the original storyboards (which followed the book to the letter) got Walt's approval, it seemed odd and a little unfair to turn on him like that. But, the final movie is really good nonetheless! The characters and music really make it for me. I do wish that the live action version coming this year would follow the book more...

    Well I think putting the book aside and doing a new thing with the characters was the best thing Disney could have done for this movie. and it's beyond tragic he didn't get to see it or any movie afterward finished. For me the best feature of TJB was the music, but I'm always biased towards the soundtracks. Despite my loathe for Kaa I do in fact like this movie a lot and is up there with one of my favorites (though low on the list). The characters are great, the songs are great, and I love Shere Kahn one of my favorites villeins. But if your wondering why I hate Kaa he scared me as a kid and that hypnotic coil thing really makes me uncomfortable. And for some reason a lot of people really love it. IF you value your sanity don't look him up on the internet!
    Also Disney is going to have competition with there live action remake. Not only is Warner Brothers doing it but they got Benedict Cumberbatch to play Shere Kahn and they got Andy Serkis the king of Motion capture to Direct it. Personally I'll go with which ever makes Kaa less creepy.

    I've been pondering the Beatles not being in the film for a long time... and I have reason to believe as a Beatle buff myself it was probably a little more than scheduling and John vetoing Disney, I believe it was a little more deeper than that... I think that it was during the time in '66 when the Beatles were slowly growing tired of touring... they had a bad spell in the Philippines involving Imelda Marcos and John had his infamous "Bigger than Jesus" interview that was grossly taken out of context... which would all lead up to their sabbatical and subsequent recording of what would become the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"
