    One of the comics I remember reading in our local newspaper as a child was Scamp, about a little puppy. When at age 8 I saw Lady and the Tramp I thought,"So that's how Scamp's parents met!"

    It's one of my favorite Disney animated films because of how it portrays real life. There's no magic that the fairy tale movies usually have (though having talking animals is pretty unrealistic). It's just life in general. Especially in the beginning of the movie when Lady as a puppy spends her first night with the Darling family (not the family from Peter Pan). The moment when she doesn't want to sleep in her dog bed and howls to get their attention because she wants to sleep with them on their bed.

    My Top Ten Favorite Disney Movie list has Lady and the Tramp at #6. I first saw this movie in one early morning right before school, but I only got to see the first half. Then, as a way of learning how to be social, I was taken to a swap meet where a DVD of Lady and the Tramp was on sale. I got that DVD, and the next thing I was watching it over and over again. Therefore, I have much fondness and a deep respect for Lady and the Tramp. Also, although I am troubled by the fact that there are no child voices, I will say I actually like the fact that Tramp's voice Larry Roberts was much younger than Lady's voice Barbara Luddy. I won't say the reasons though, but here is something else I like. The romance between Lady and the Tramp was handled perfectly. The two star dogs did not fall in love at first sight, they had to build on their love and get to know each other better. The love story was not rushed, and it feels more real. Lastly, I actually like the modern feeling of the movie.

    2:17 In the documentary "Walt: The Man Behind the Myth," his daughter Diane Disney Miller said that her dad gave her mom the Chow puppy in the hat box. I have seen a few pics of Walt &/or Lillian with the Chow dog, named Sunnee, but no photo has ever surfaced of the moment when Lillian was supposed to have opened the hat box to find the puppy inside. True or not, the legend did inspire L&T's opening scene, & Diane believed it her whole life.
    As for "Bella Notte," I grew up hearing on records a different version ("So take the love of your loved one") from the one in the film ("Side by side with your loved one").

    I only watched this movie once in my childhood. Though I do remember a few things about this movie. Yes, the spaghetti scene is one of the most iconic romance scenes. I like the songs in the movie as well; I like 'He's a Tramp,' 'Belle Notte,' and 'The Siamese Song.' (even if people do think it's rascist) And I do remember most of the characters.
    Overall, for me, Lady and the Tramp is ok enough, but it isn't really one of my favorites from the Disney library.

    They actually did do a parody of the spaghetti scene in Rugrats in Paris with Spike and Fifi, but with pizza instead of speghetti. However, after the scene, they end up getting stuck together with the sticky cheese of the pizza that they forgot about.

    To answer you question about the fact that the movie was awarded here in Italy...nope, I don't think it's strange; first , as an Italian, I never thought that those stereotypical characters were offensive, in fact they're caricatures, and as caricatures they're meant to grab you a smile...and in every caricature there's a bottom of truth; second, as characters, they're not offensive in any way in my opinion ( they look like honest restaurant owners, not mafia type of people..) ; third, 1955 was a time where nobody was worried about political correctness, in neither sides of the Atlantic...so..........( With that said, I don't wanna mean that political un-correctness and being offensive are beautiful things, I just think that those 2 in the movie, were kind of "gentle" caricature kind of characters and the italian people bought that for what it was/is..)...really, I saw Lady and the Trump hundreds of times and I never felt offended.

    I say, is the next video an Influential Person review of Mary Blair?
    If so, awesome! :D
    But, onto Lady and the Tramp.
    I find that this film is perhaps Disney's most realistic animation of the Golden Age, with all the backgrounds looking beautiful and the animation on the dogs, cats and other animals being darn near immaculate and pretty spot on.
    The love also feels very genuine, because people don't just meet and fall in love. As much as I love Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella, they aren't as down-to-earth as this film (that doesn't make them bad films by any stretch of the word, though). And speaking of which, Beauty and the Beast and The Princess and the Frog definitely took a lot of inspiration from the romance in this film, with the two starting off disliking each other, but, over time grow closer and such.
    Oh, and to add to the "legacy" of this film, The Princess and the Frog was heavily inspired by this film's artstyle and animation.
    An all around great review and a great education :D

      Joe The Disney Guy It also has a more timeless recreation of the (at the time) current location, unlike other films like Chicken Little, because it doesn't try to make comedy out of the location and just makes story from it, but also having it be incidental that it takes place in that location.

    There's a smidgen of social commentary in this film. Lady is raised in a wealthy New England household and is thrown into the slums just on the other side of the tracks, it's a very nostalgic view of the time period but also shows a demonstrable wealth gap in the two neighborhoods. Most of the dogs in the pound and the human families Tramp visits for food are loosely implied to be immigrant families and aren't accepted among the purebred dogs and vice versa. It's subtle to the point that I'm not entirely sure if it's meant to be about segregation or I'm just reading too much into it, and there's also the wth? of the Siamese cats.
    The "you're too nice a girl to be in this place" referring to the pound always stuck with me for some reason.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      raspberryseedz I think you're definitely on to something at least. Whether or not intentionally discussing segregation directly, there's certainly a theme of high class versus lower class, as demonstrated by the reaction that Lady's friends have to Tramp and the pound dogs have to Lady. And yeah, the Siamese cats always annoyed me haha

    I love Lady & The Tramp. The love is perfectly in the air, even though there is this one scene where they're pulled apart and I do not like those villainous siamese cats. They love being so troublesome and Aunt Sarah doesn't wanna realize that. Really, that just pisses me off. If that's so, she should just get rid of them.

    Anyway about the movie. I really love it. It´s funny how it´s among the most realistic and down to earth disney movies. And yeah I was suprised rewatching it how the love story plays out, I mean she meets Tramp, it goes almost a year and then she meets him again. In how many Disney movies does that happen? And then the sort of opposite from the Princess trend of wanting more and discover the world. All Lady want is to be with her family and protect the baby. And talking about iconic scene´s, when Tramp goes to stop the rat. That build up, the dark house and then the lightining during the fight. It´s just so marvelous. Sure Tramp toke care of 3 dogs but that rat....somehow toke the point. And then it is´t over. It´s refreashing how they had Jack and Trusty go and save Tramp. And great video. I did´t know the detail how the story come to be. I knew it was´t based on a finished book.

      Thanks and that tidbit about two dubs in Sweden is fascinating, I wonder why that is

    • @Ahturos
      @Ahturos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe The Disney Guy The New dubs have happened to most old DIsney movies 60´s and back sadly. Either they did´t have a good saving of the original recordings or they tought the language had aged which is silly. I personally love old Swedish. Dumbo have had 4 dubs. Original 40, new dub 60, 70 and the late 90´s. They keept losing that recording. Or just limit it to some cinemas. The rights are wierd when it comes to dubs in Sweden. I have been lucky with people somhow getting there hands on some parts of the original and puting them on youtube. And one funny thing Bambi when it come out on vhs they accidently used the old dub when they where suppose to use the new one XP I am sort of a dub-nerd. Love seeing the behind the scenes for some dubs.

    Disney may have got around the Tramp issue by using the word as a male name. Tramp in troublesome context generally meant a woman of 'easy virtue' (a euphemism also popular in that period).

  • @Ahturos
    @Ahturos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually just rewatched the movie. In Sweden we got 2 dubs for the movie. The Original and a new one from the 90´s, sadly the dvd only got the new but it is´t bad and got some of the actors from the old dub in it, strange I know. We got a tradition in Sweden at every christmast watch the "From all of us to all of you" we call it Donald Duck´s Christmast Eve becuse Sweden only cares for Donald or Kalle as he is called here XP And the spaghetti scene is trully apreciated anv beloved. We got it in a lot of Swedish cult movies.
