    So it's not just me who takes forever to tumble chert? Your patience sure paid off with that one. Love those jaspers with all the tiny little parts stuck together weather it's oolitic or brecciated or whatever. I think my favorite agate was the one with the really nice shadow banding. You are a much better tumbler than most beginners. You have had success right from the beginning.

      I had a lot of help from some Michigan guy. He made a really good tumbling tutorial, and I just followed that. I really think the key to it is just being patient enough.

    Hello, thanks for the great video! I like the multicolored jasper with the smiley face on it, and the red hat.Tumbled rocks really are beautiful, so its kind of hard to pick.Love the agates. The first large grey and white striped turned out fantastic! God bless you! Your friend and fan, Kevin That one jasper looked like a Easter basket, full of eggs!

    How exciting! Every new rockhounder is great! And what success you are having. Keep having as many adventures as you can. I enjoy watching your tumbled rock displays. And water. Oh my goodness. Water here in arizona is pretty scarce and I have actually resorted to parking lot and driveway searches. My driveway gravel is from the verde river so I do sometimes find small agates. And run my tumbler often. Thanks again for sharing your adventures

      Water is abundant here in the land of 10,000 lakes(it’s actually over 12,000, but we Minnesotans don’t like to brag😂). Gravel roads are still fantastic, especially for rocks for the tumbler! I love showing off my tumbled beauties, so expect some more of those videos this winter!

    You know, I have found a couple, only a couple of pieces of Binghamite here in southern St. Louis county. I know Taylor has found one or two pieces in the area too. I know that they say that it's only found west of here in one area, but I believe it can be found in about any place, but it's EXTREMELY MORE RARE.

    • @99Rockhounding
      @99Rockhounding  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve found a few in places that weren’t the Cuyuna iron range too. It’d be interesting to know how they got there. My best guess is glaciers.

    Lapidary challenge: is it possible to make a tile saw function as a vertical flat lap?

    • @99Rockhounding
      @99Rockhounding  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly, but the blade only has diamonds around the outer edge, so you'd either have to use something else or modify the blade.

  • @dustinfindsrocks

    There basically is no difference between chert, flint, and jasper. It’s all crypto crystalline quartz. Flint generally refers to artifacts. Jasper refers to bright colors or patterns in the stone. Chert is a catch all for the boring ones. It is very confusing 😂
