I love that Gui is no longer a guest, but just a regular co-host. He's just the best.
Also love how he takes on both roles so great. Speaking out and at length about his experience while being a guest, and also sitting back to allow other guests to tell their stories and supporting them when necessary. Hes top notch for a reason.

The fact that the Free Guy pillar stunt looks like CGI is literal adding insult to injury, 😆
Yep, I assumed it was all CG, especially with the wonky physics.
Its all about giving the director options though. For that movie the broken physics make sense, its just a shame they didn't realize that from the start and spare the stunt guys potential injuries.

Not job well done. Needless danger and injury. That shot should have been full CGI if they’re gonna make it look so artificial in the end. Poor direction.
@@mnoir7257 They often don't know how it's going to be in the end. Yeah, hindsight is 20/20, but when you've got a bluckbuster movie to shoot and bring to the world, you want your options. Also, a stunt person can get injured walking down some stairs. It's part of the job. It does suck that it happened how it did in that stunt though.
Seeing the leg break and then him going out cold in the next shot, sent chills down my spine. Massive respect for all the stunt-men/women of the industry!

@AgirlnamedMichael The amount of money that actors demand these days is absolutely obscene. 1000s of people work on a movie and bust their ass for nothing while RDJ makes some quips and walks away with tens of millions

We need a dummy reacts episode where its just Niko, Gui, and a dummy on the couch reacting to scenes with dummies.

As an Animator I can tell you when I get the shots to animate and watching the stuntmen, I'm always so surprised they can do so much! Big respect to the stuntmen and stuntwomen!
MY buddy who is a roto master up in Vancouver is always singing the praises of the stunt crews.
Especially stuntwomen. Cause this show really highlighted that most of them wear skimpy outfits. So there's not a lot of ways to wear protective gear. I'm glad it's starting to change
It's that old Movie Magic. But the magic is what happens before the cameras and how you don't get to see how they trick you.
But like so many things there's just that much you can do by faking it. A fall is a fall, even if there's padding on the ground. You have to decide just how much you want that shot and what it has to look like. Can you use a dummy? It's the safest but give you the least control. It can look amazing, but most of the time arms and legs doesn't move right, and it's to easy to see that it's a dummy. Do you have to show the entire fall in one shot, or can it be broken up into three or four simpler shots with less risk? Often the viewer won't even think about two cuts during a fall. The see the start, cut to the middle of the fall, cut to the stunt man, men or women hitting the ground and we are so conditioned that we see it as a one fall. But each can be made a lot safer than the full one take fall.
It's all about risk management and knowing what works for the camera.
The single take version, even if faked, is the most impressive, but also the hardest to make safe. As an audience I'm pretty insensitive to jump cuts. It's just something I've learned to live with. Some friends however get really upset when scenes are hacked up into confetti.
With digital effects continuously improving some of the most dangerous stunts can be faked, keeping actors, stuntmen and the budget safe. But I have a feeling it also puts more pressure on the stunt crews. There's some status to being able to say that yea, that sequence, all practical.

The guests on this channel, yes. But I’ve met a few stuntmen and women that think they’re better than the actors even to the point they hate actors.

I really enjoy the fact that these "manly men" talk about hurting themselves, being scared and praising others. This is very healthy masculine behaviour and I hope it encourages the viewers to do the same. Especially since most of us are not in jobs or positions where we have to be this tough.

One of my favorite dummy scenes: the car getting kicked off the cliff in For Your Eyes Only. The dummy wasn’t supposed to fall out of the car on impact but it looked so good they kept it in the film.
This is probably a long shot, but I've been wanting to ask you guys to check a scene from the movie Hell or High Water. Not a stunt-heavy movie by any stretch, but there's this scene on a gas station where Chris Pine full-on slams a guy against the door of his car and the door actually dents from the impact and it's just driving me nuts because the stunt is all one take, no cuts, so you can clearly actually see when the door was not dented and then the door is dented after the impact and I need to know if Chris Pine actually dented a car with the head of an actor

I haven't seen this, but I'd guess that the dent was there and they edited it out in post and then after the hit it's the real thing with the dent

@@michaelprice605 just search for "hell or highwater gas station scene", it's pretty easy to find on here. Even if it is that simple, I'd still love if they could break it down cause I'm sure they would also love just how seamlessly and effectively both stunts and vfx were used for that one scene

Gui is always so humble and excited to talk to other accomplished stuntmen, despite the fact that he himself is also a legend. Always makes me smile when he gets shy about it :P
I would love to see a breakdown of old Hollywood stunts (from the 40's, 50's, 60's). How you think they did a stunt back then, before CG. I met a few people who were stunt performers from the 60's and 70's and they had amazing stories.
Jeannie Epper (Lynda Carter's WW double) is 81 and still out there. I bet she'd be an amazing guest.
I would love to see an episode dedicated to Yakima Kanute. An absolute legend of stunts in "action westerns" -- he also devised many of the rigs and devices that kept other stuntpeople of the day safe (or safer...), like breakaways for the "runaway horses dragging a stagecoach behind" trope.
Can you do a stuntmen reacts but with cameramen? I think it’d be really cool to get some insight how they’re able to follow and go about these amazing shots!
Christ, stuntmen and stuntwomen are so greatly unappreciated. These peeps go through hell and back for our amusement, cannot be more grateful for these guys and girls for making these action scenes awesome.

I think Hemsworth’s suplex during the initial rescue was done to a dummy. The way the head/neck hit the ground on that was brutal. Also his head was covered.

Wait, am I the only one who feels like this episode was a lot transparent in displaying how dangerous stunt work is! Like, it still doesn’t look safe as I initially thought! Despite all the padding and wires and faux glass, these stunt people must enjoy the thrill and risk of it all and ultimately deeply enjoy their work. Maybe I haven’t been paying enough attention

Honestly a cut where you see the real action from the outside might be even more impressive sometimes then the end result
Man these guys are such professionals, the amount of pain and injuries they endure for movies is on another level.
I could not be as calm as he is talking about that Free guy stunt that he god injured and all could have been VFX easily, like bruh the movie is Free guy not John Wick or a Tom cruise one lol let's take it easy on the suntmen
They really shouldn't have to break their bodies for our entertainment. It's not something to admire or respect. We're using people, brutalising them, all to make us entertained for an hour or two. There has got to be a better solution other than letting real people get destroyed with chronic pain
@@RedNymph234 trust me I'm on the same boat as you, but obviously it's what they have been doing for years and the industry won't change so easily sadly, I just wanted to pay my respects for them at least.
@@RedNymph234 It's not just for US to you know. a lot of them enjoy making movies and doing stunts as a way to create art. What we admire them for is the thought and engineering that goes to the stunts to make it as safe as possible while also making it cool and tell the story. What we need to improve upon is the safety, not put them out of the job.
@@RedNymph234 We still have boxing and ufc around. These are every more direct examples of watching people hurt each other for our entertainment.
So unexpected and exciting to see Unstoppable on one of these! I love that movie a lot and all the stunt work and practical effects in that movie are impressive as hell!

A classic dummy, recently highlighted by RLM, is in the first Cyborg where it falls down an elevator shaft.

Interesting guest. He seems a little wait-and-see at first. But, thanks to Gui, gets more passionate during the episode. I would love to see some more of his work. Also kudos to Nico for letting the guests do the talking and not making this about him. He is a great host.
yeah all their "react" shows (Stuntment, VFX Artist, Animator) they do such a great job of just letting the guest talk and share their insight, I'm sure if you looked at the raw footage there's more of Nico/Gui/Whoever asking questions that is just getting edited out to keep the focus on the guest

for the VFX series you gotta react to *Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia!* Also at the end of second one there's a big water creature, so it might be cool to see what you think about that. Maybe also, Max Schneider's Gibberish music video, the editing kinda breaks my brain there.
The *last agni kai fight from ATLA* would be perfect for for the Animators React. It's so stunning!
And for stuntmen react It would be cool to see you react to the duel from "Potop", it's really good sword fight (tho technically it's sabers i think)

You guys should do a stunts award show. Like a full 1hr long video just dedicated to different categories of stunts in films. Nominees and a winner, get gui and other guest to host each section

Stunt people are the reasons I probably like watching movies. Fight and action scenes are always exciting.
When are you guys gonna do a Spartacus themed episode?!? That can fill a Stunts video or even a SFX video! Vanessa Cater is a stunt women with a long career from the show, Steven S DeKnight is a showrunner and he's done Dare Devil and Pacific Rim 2! So much potential you gotta give it a shot!
Super happy and surprised to see you look at Unstoppable. One of my favorite movies, despite how brutally inaccurate it is from a railroading standpoint. Just the fact that they did almost all the stunts for real, and used the real actors, like how Denzel Washington was legit running on top of a train, was just awesome. Fun movie to watch, and another one of those ones that I'm surprised to hear other people know about.

I know this is stuntmen react but I'd like to bring some attention back to the hand shot in Avatar 2. After watching the movie I believe that the first shot was practical reference shot and the second was CG and it is the one that made its way into the movie because it's the only time we see one of the characters use a leather strap to help them hold onto the harness of the water creature.
Gui regularly co-hosting Stuntmen React is one we knew we all wanted all along and we finally got it.
You guys should call this "Stuntmen tell tales of abuse at hollywood".😄

The dummy in one of the last scenes in Tropic Thunder thats a kid getting thrown cartwheel style always comes to mind
I was coming in expecting an casual episode but my god what an banger. Corridor Crew has really got me realized how hard the life of stuntmen really is. Really hats off to the guys and need to know what kind of pilates they do to get out of those stunts with so small injuries. I'm pretty fit muscular gym goer and I feel like I trash my body and get injuries from just regular living.
Daniel Stevens is one of the nicest guys in the industry. Gui's okay too. ;) And Dan Carter is one of my favorite people. Great episode.

I was just thinking about how down to earth and humble all the stuntmen on here always are, and then I realized it's because its built into their job. They literally make actors look as good as possible, all the while not taking any of the credit or glory.
So much behind the scene footage, one of the best if not the best stunt react episode for me, thanks a lot!
Favorite dummy shot is from Better Off Dead towards the end of the movie when the 2 dollars kid falls off the cliff. Is pure gold.
The dummy shot in Cyborg (1989) is glorious. GIBSON RICKENBACKER (Jean-Claude Van Damme) throws a goon down an elevator shaft in a part-demolished building.
I love these stunt men, and they are so passionate to do what they do. Especially knowing no amount of padding is gonna stop their brain from bouncing around in their skull, but they want to give it their best anyway helping movies to be as great as they are.

My favorite dummy scene is from The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk. Either the first or the second one when a dummy is thrown into a fire. It was amazing. The close up of the horse the man was riding in those shots was epic as well.
My favorite dummy scene is the crash test dummy from any vehicle manufacturer safety test commercials. That dummy takes the real hits and keeps coming back for more hahaha

The dummy shot in commando of Arnold jumping out of the plane is incredible. The wind catches the dummy and it’s pretty hilarious. Thanks for all you guys do! I love it!
Favorite dummy scene is in "Marked for death" when Segal gives the Screwface character a double eye gouge with his thumbs, followed by a backbreaker over his knee, & then tosses him down an elevator shaft.
Not really a film but I loved that dummy bit from early Jackass where they would throw it off an overpass at cars.
I really like this episode. In most Stuntman/woman react episodes, we mostly saw how hard or complex a stunt is. But this time? This one focused on the injuries. I think this is my first time watching stuntman react that have so many scary injuries and accidents.
My favourite dummy is Windows getting killed in The Thing. It's SO obvious when he's getting thrashed around upside down, but something about it just totally works for me. Some combination of the actual film craft being laid completely bare, and how completely crazily wild they can go because of it.
Plus I think it's time to revisit The Thing anyway!
I'd love to see you react to "don't mess with the Zohan" both in terms of VFX and in terms of stunts!

Stuntmen\women - The most selfless people working in the movies. There's no amount of gratitude that audiences can give to them. They are risking their short and long term health for our entertainment.
The best dummy shot I've seen is from the modern "Three Stooges" movie. The near perfect "thrown over the wall" gag they pulled off. Hilarious.
My favorite two dummy scenes HANDS DOWN are from Last Crusade when Vogel goes over the cliff in the tank and Mask of Zorro when Capt. Love falls with the gold in the mine. Perfection.
Best dummy shot is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood when Cliff goes full Nam on the ginger at the end😂

So far, it seems like as bad ass an stunt men and stunt women are, they're just as humble. They're always seem like the nicest and gentlest people.
My favorite dummy scenes in film are: Bad Taste (1987) when Derek falls down the hill, Temple of Doom (1983) the animatronic dummies that fall off the bridge
My parents used to have a couch like theirs and it’s the most comfortable couch ever. Best naps.
