As a fitter of four years on refrigeration install that got thrown to the wolves last year with rack service work longer videos are great. Appreciate all the effort you put into making the videos. I like the longer videos with the deeper explanation
The stress goes away after you start getting comfortable with it. If you ever get board look into the racks, I like it even though it might not sound like it at times
Lol u gotta love supermarket refrigeration. You whole body is a tool. Hands on pipes and ears for hissing sounds. First time I seen on Orange Kysor Warren Rack. Reminds me of old Hill Parasystem
You can always check the receiver level with a map gas torch on the side of the receiver. Apply some heat then use your finger starting at the bottom of the receiver and when you get from a cooler spot to the hot spot on the side of the vessel, that will be your receiver level. Works every time and is more reliable than any receiver level gage. From an old-timer supermarket refrigeration tech.
Never a good way to keep oil off everything. I'm definitely getting that form a funnel. I'd usually grab a foil baking pan off the shelf, have the store buy it, and form something up but still oil ends up all over. Nice work.
If you just started everything can look that way. It’s going to take time, especially if you don’t do something everyday. But if you put your energy into building your skills you can become the expert and get paid like it. I wish you all the best! Go get it 👍👍
@HVACRSurvival wise words brother, been in there for just under 2yrs. They told me sky is the limit also. They said it takes about 5yrs apprenticeship for journeyman. I was hoping my 2yrs counted but, apparently it doesn't. I have the Uni EPA, Osha 30, H.E.A.T., R410a Certified and Basic Electrical. Out of all of these certs I'm assuming EPA is most important? Also I'm a big dude like 6'5 300lbs, pretty solid but big. Do you recommend doing residential first or try to get into a commercial gig?
I’ve seen people start in either division. It really depends what you want. I personally have always wanted to be better than average and to know more than most. I believe the more you know the more you’re worth. That’s not to sound arrogant it’s just my thoughts. Generally, everyone starts in residential but not everybody starts in Commercial, you’re gonna love one and hate the other or both like I do but I prefer the commercial over the residential just because it’s more rewarding to me but Refrigeration is also a whole another third division to learn.
@HVACRSurvival I completely agree, I did some residence recently and I swear it was like unable to get in. I try to fix all I can outside or around lol even on roof. I trained in refrigeration, I felt I'm pretty good at it

Nice repairs dude … that’s damn near how every SM out here in mid Atlantic region is Can get some toe tags and tag your repairs. Usually what I do instead of marking everywhere
It doesn’t work the same way as a smaller system. That system never pumps down and usually there’s too much heat on the receiver to see the difference with even my imager. I’ve tried
You might have more issues. It should pump down just like a normal system if you shut the liquid line after the drier or at each circuits. Usually i wait a lil and torch it and you can feel where the liquid ends with your finger. Then open the liquid line at 10-15% every few seconds
Yeah, but I need to be 15 to 20% while it’s running not when it’s pumped down that’s what’s harder because this system doesn’t pump down it’s just constantly regulating suction saturated pressure
@@HVACRSurvival 80%ish while pumped down is ~20%. Let the comps shut off on their own and then manually turn them on off the e2 for about 5 minutes should do the trick
I know I guy from Trane he has 36 years. He is their top absorber chiller guy. I asked him how long did it take you, to where you were like I got this shit down. He said 13 years, my jaw dropped.
Im a little late to the party, so this comment may have already been made. To check the receiver level, get a map gas torch and heat up and down the side of the receiver. Run your hand across it, and wherever it gets piping hot, thats your liquid level. Also, a good way to confirm you're low on gas is to close a couple liquid ball valves at the rack. If the temp drops on the case that's running hot, you're low on gas.
You’re dead on with the circuit shut down 👍👍. I’ve tried that and it worked great. I haven’t been able to see a difference in the reciver level when they are as big as the ones are. It’s either because they are too warm or the metal has too much mass. Not sure?
@HVACRSurvival I solely so supermarkets with some decent size, 800+lbs receivers and it works. Probably just need to run that torch on there a little longer. Usually I'll I'll torch one spot on the top of the receiver for about 5sec just to see what I should be expecting. And then run it up and down for Probably 30+seconds

You could but what are you gonna do about the moisture and air you pull in to it? You’ll still need to evacuate the compressor. The pumps actually pretty quick.

Dang...that store is beat to hell... all their mechanicals are ancient or broken. Are they in the process of replacing the equipment but half assed it? I dont get all the new stuff in boxes sitting for months? I get margins are small and equipment is expensive but still need to maintain your store...
They own a lot of different stores and they are penny pinchers. They don’t do any preventative maintenance whatsoever. Everything gets scrutinized and double checked.
For somebody living outside of the USA, why do you call it single phasing? Single phase to a three phase compressor whould do nothing but dual phasing a three phase compressor would be bad since you don´t seem to have motor circuit protection.
A 120v or 230 V circuit is single phase unless you have three phase service. I assume that’s why we call it that. I’ve never analyzed what you use in other parts of the world, but our power is split phasing.
It’s e2e with the site supervisor touch screen. Why? Just go E3 and give the store the ip and if there computer is hooked up to the store network no need for the screen
They did that to keep it very simple. Most people barely understand the basics of temperature let alone networking and the stock people will be able to read it without needing computer access. Times prior they used to just have a buzzer on the wall with a light that flashed at least now they’ll be able to see what zones actually acting up. I spoke with the other group that is doing the controls and they will be back in 2-3 weeks to finally finish. They had another remodel that they were stuck finishing before returning on this one. This was the only store they had. It wasn’t on any type of control system. All the other stores used to have com-troll and those got updated to Emerson.
It doesn't seem like you are just complaining, there are legitimate issues that should have already been addressed that make diagnosis more difficult. This means longer calls and more potential for misdiagnosis.

Last time I tried that it didn’t work. I might have to try it again. I can get it to work on small receivers but haven’t had luck on these.
Yes it works you just need to apply a little more heat to large liquid receivers

That’s some old CPC controls. Crazy to see it’s still being used.
I think this might be the last of these old CPC controls. We’ve had a lot of calls here over the last year is what got them up update the controllers.

Yeah, they look like small little car engines. Technically they’re 20 and 25 horse. Sometimes the little ones were like 14.

When it the oil switch trips is it because the oil is hot or because oil level is low?
It trips because the oil pressure differential is too low.

Why not put cardboard down or a trash bag on floor and save the oil mess clean up?
That’s something I started doing more often. I didn’t feel as though it was going to leak with that new funnel, but I was wrong.
