This might have been the funniest moments in the entire series. So much comedic goodness in just 2 and a half minutes. Anya's popcorn munching and boredness contrasted with Willow's eagerness, Buffy's offense at her Giles' drawing of her hips, and then of course all the sexual references. In one of the scariest episodes too, loved it.
Of course Giles went to the effort of making detailed drawings and choosing appropriate music. He was unemployed at the time and had nothing better to do. Season 4 was pretty uneven, but God, this episode was so perfect.
Giles seems to like drawing gore, he dedicated a couple of slides to illustrate the Gentlemen ripping hearts out when one would have sufficed. And then, in a later season he drew violent pictures to communicate to a potential how to kill vampires...and it scared her. Regardless, his drawings aren't bad. It's just funny to imagine Giles taking the time to draw out unnecessary details, like the Gentlemen's smile, or Buffy with a bow and arrow for...some reason.
I think this is one of the best episodes of Buffy if not the best one. You really dont see almost whole episodes done as a return to the days of silent films.

No kidding! Those creepy Gentlemen with their creepy smiles! And the music during the scenes where they were floating down the streets of Sunnydale! In my opinion, the Gentlemen were the creepiest monsters in both Buffy and Angel!
It's episodes like this that made Buffy the cult classic that it is, so few have the balls to go "we're going to do an equally thought provoking and funny episode" as Buffy did. Supernatural is one of the others who was able to take time out of each season and do one of these types of episodes.
The one issue I had with this is, if Giles' information was coming from old books and fairy tales, how would he *know* that a recorded scream wouldn't work? All his sources would've been from before the invention of the audio recording. Like, you'd think Buffy would've at least tried that

A lot of children's fary tales books were created and reinterpreted in that century
As lifelong Buffy and Halloween Horror Nights fan, I love that the Body Collectors from HHN are almost exactly identical to the Gentlemen from Buffy, just missing their floating and minion creatures.
When this scene started playing I got so confused by dance macabre because I'd always been taught that death played the fiddle and that's why that song happened but the gentleman had nothing to do with the mythos so I was confused but it was funny

Never understood why people don't like this season. I am just through rewatching it again. Although I really don't like the last episode, but most of the others are pretty funny. I also enjoyed Buffy's and Riley's story more than the first time i watched it.
It's an incredibly experimental season that had amazing potential, but was let down by the actress who played Maggie Walsh wanting to leave before the season was over, hence Maggie getting killed off, which kinda derailed the season arc somewhat.
I was surprised Spike didn't know about The GentleMen he always seem to know about every demon on the show Thats this demon ect. He even knew what demon Giles was turn into when Ethan turn him into one.. that was a funny episode Giles was talking normal to the TV Show viewers but to the Buffyverse characters he was speaking in a demon language to them LOL.

Very early episode he told Jenny that he preferred books to computers because the latter simply gave you data. It wasn't enough. There needed to be a smell or a personality to the knowledge you were gaining. He probably had a similar feeling about lectures. It's not enough to write down the words. You need to know you have your audience's attention.
If they recruited a person to come into town from the outside in an effort to get a real voice, would that person lose her voice too? Is the voice stealer constantly active?
