Railey was stunned by the amount of freedom she has compared to the initiative. this to the rescue squad the rest of the squad were less enthused. It took them 30 minutes to catch her, and it took her like 15-30 seconds to knock out the squad. I wonder how they explained the incident to the rescue squad that needed to extract his men from trees and rooftops. they landed on trying to stop Buffy from borrowing a Humvee.

The finished product is worthy of a theatrical release with 9 months shooting and production and a $20 million dollar budget. How this was made, both envisioned and actualized, how JW and crew could see the brilliantly coherent end product as they filmed, is almost unbelievable. (Then imagine the terror of having to cut it for rebroadcast.) The mustard segment alone is one of the greatest, boldest, expensive 14 seconds of air ever conceived.
wiki says the original broadcast was 8 minutes longer than others, as is on DVD, but rebroadcasts were cut back to normal run length, primarily with song verse removals. Personally, the Anya wedding dress song in one of the more awesome episodes "Selfless" extremely looks like is was culled from OMWF. It even references the mustard song.

Every show he has ever made has been gold. Buffy,Angel, Firefly & Dollhouse. All of them. I just wish Firefly & Dollhouse hadn't been canceled and had come to a natural conclusions instead of being rushed. Joss had 7 seasons planned out for both 😢 oh what could have been.
I have never calculated how many times let’s see... at least 16 times more likely 25-30.I watch it every year it’s helped me cope with so much of my life growing up.
Great show and my favorite episode of the series. Mr. Whedon delivered an hour of pure entertainment. My only complaint is it should have been two hours!
In this show i always liked Tara because she is pure, natural and kind of "fairy aspect" with no anorexia body. The actress seems really natural and fun too.
Some G.D. genius had the foresight to capture this, the bare elements of - and who'd have thunk it, who could have in any way imagined it - what would become the greatest episode in the history of television.
Such a masterpiece of a show, so underrated in its layers, its successful juggling of several genres simultaneously, and its emotional impact on viewers of all genders and ages. Quick glancers might have just looked at this show and said "Eh, just some wimpy teeny-bopper show." But it is not, it's simply a masterpiece if you care to watch it intently all the way through and pay attention without presumption. Pretty much no show on this channel (CW, formerly WB) or any channel since has been able to do all that it's done all at once as carefully and successfully and have as soulful of an impact on its viewers. There was so much heart put into this entire series.
Almost a perfect crew for a musical. Tony and James both musicians, Amber has a really sweet voice as well as Emma, Michelle is a great dancer and so on... One of the best episodes of the show
If you search best musical episodes for tv shows this pops up on every single one of those lists, literally taking the first spot in each one. This episode, series really, is genius and amazingly crafted.
Haven't watched this episode or been around Buffy for at least 3+ years now, still remember that at 11:27, Tara(Amber) collides with a pillar next to her during her spin, putting her off her steps for a bit, but it's cut out :p I could probably dissect this episode still without rewatching it first, that's just how much I love it :D

The older I get the angrier I get Giles thought he should leave. He had responsibility towards Buffy, I'd never abandon my daughter. I think if I was him now id make her ready for life and guide her that way like a father. (Can't believe I'm old enough to think of SMG as a daughter now. ☠️)

The amount of work that goes into something like this just boggles my mind. A lot of dedication from all the actors and everyone behind the scenes too. This show helped get me through 3 months of bedrest during my pregnancy and helped keep me (relatively:D) sane.
I've been watching Buffy since I was 2 years old, because my whole family grew up with it, except for my sisters, they hate it. I'm so sad that my friends don't watch it 😢
I never saw this before until now. Once more with feeling episode is a must see musical episode for buffy fans like my self . its a make you feel good song very uplifting. Thank you for sharing this
Great stuff. SMG did pretty well with the singing considering how unhappy/uncomfortable she was doing that episode. Of the main cast, Giles/Anthony, Spike/James and Anya/Emma all did an amazing job, but you could tell the others were uncomfortable and just tried to survive.
Thank you for this! So cool to see the blood, sweat, and tears that went into filming this incredible episode. I remember when it premiered and all the outdoor advertising featured Buffy's eyes with her pupils as musical notes.
@uberanto I imagine the previous comment is referring to perhaps the workload they had, and how the whole "I did this in two weeks" was a result of him really pushing them hard. It's a fine line between abuse and being pushy to get the most out of actors and the crew, and I don't see overt problems with any of the behind the scenes personally. But it's a case of working with Joss Whedon is just really tough going and it's well known some actors really didn't want to do this episode, especially SMG because she is Buffy of course and they had her singing two solo songs and being one of the main vocalists in "Walk Through The Fire". He's certainly not alone with pushing people beyond their limits, and again it's one of those where often the best results do come from pushing people, but whether it's "right" to do so is debatable. Plenty of the best people in the business are crazed perfectionists with insane standards.

I just finished Buffy and Angel last week.If you haven't watched Angel, go watch that. That show is the shitttt, lol. Anyways, the shows go on with comics, so I'm reading those. When you rewatch Buffy, watch Angel concurrently when season 4 of Buffy starts. That's what I did and it was awesome.
It's 2019. I watched this episode for the first time more than 16 years ago with shitty German subtitles. It is still the one piece of television that, after all these years, touches me like nothing else ever has or, I guess, ever will. I have so much love for this!

Watching behind the scenes stuff gives me a random thought, there was quite a few times in the show, season 1 all the way to 5 , where you can clearly see the cameras in some of the shots. Like it would pan over and you'll see a camera man arm and equipment haha
Are these the episodes that were originally 4:3 on TV? Heard they did a poor HD DVD version which added on the edges to make it 16:9. Never bothered to get them because of this. I mean, why not just leave them 4:3 with a sharper picture like they were supposed to be.
Let’s also remember they are being filmed here, even if it’s behind the scenes footage. Easily could have been a “act like you’re supposed to or you’ll be gone tomorrow and never act again” situation, like what he did to Gal Gadot.

The first time through the show went over by about 5 minutes. They cut one song and cut the dead air where there was no dialogue I think.

Watch Angel. It was as good, and at times better, than Buffy. You'll love it. Buffy did a musical, Angel does a puppet show.
I just finished Buffy and Angel last week.If you haven't watched Angel, go watch that. That show is the shitttt, lol. Anyways, the shows go on with comics, so I'm reading those. When you rewatch Buffy, watch Angel concurrently when season 4 of Buffy starts. That's what I did and it was awesome.

It's 2019. I watched this episode for the first time more than 16 years ago with shitty German subtitles. It is still the one piece of television that, after all these years, touches me like nothing else ever has or, I guess, ever will. I have so much love for this!

If it was so toxic I can't imagine the actors would have stayed. It's likely that with time passing their best and worst memories become more prominent and the days and days of "ok" get forgotten.

Watching behind the scenes stuff gives me a random thought, there was quite a few times in the show, season 1 all the way to 5 , where you can clearly see the cameras in some of the shots. Like it would pan over and you'll see a camera man arm and equipment haha
Are these the episodes that were originally 4:3 on TV? Heard they did a poor HD DVD version which added on the edges to make it 16:9. Never bothered to get them because of this. I mean, why not just leave them 4:3 with a sharper picture like they were supposed to be.

I was and still am a huge Buffy fan. This was my all time favorite episode followed buy the non speaking episode.
The guy playing the demon was one of the best one shot villains they had
