Plugged into n no buzz needle does not move. Does this have anything to do with batteries or when u plug in should work? Thanks for video. I wish you where closer to help me. I hope I can figure out to fix myself. Cheers
How do you check what? The battery voltage? You need a voltage tester, then see what the total pack voltage is. It may not be enough to turn charger on.
Hey Wayne, I have a question. I have the same charger from the Video, with a 4-12v batteries setup, the charger does the complete cycle and turn off after a few hours, it shows full in the cart charger indicator, after a ride of 6 miles the charger indicator start to move to medium charge,, so I did my own test, and I use the power drive charger first to end the cycle, at this point should be fully charged, but when I use a small battery charger individually in each battery it shows me only 20% and takes hours on each battery to fully charge them to 100%... what could be the reason to not fully charge the batteries? all 4 are new 2023... after I do the individual charging, I feel the cart faster and last longer.
You cant mix using a pd charger and also a smart charger, one works with a obc and one does not. If you try charging batteries with a small low Amp charger, it will take hours and hours to charge. Sounds like you still have an active obc and are using a smart charger on it.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 thank you for your response, but why I have to use a smart charger with alligator clips to fully charge the battery individually? The obc is good I guess, the powersrive 3 , also, I guess.. do I need to upgrade the charger?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Lol.. let me explain again If a use the pd3, will charge till the obc says fully charge… at this moment all 4 batteries should be 100% charged. But when I use my alligator charger to check charge on each battery, it says 20%, and start recharging each battery to fully charged them to 100%. So what could be causing the OBC, or the PD3, to not fully charge the batteries?? Do I need a new smart-charger? And bypass the OBC??
Sounds like it is pretty old and the coating is falling off the transformer windings. If that is the case, then get another charger. Some people have taken wooden golf tees and stuck a couple of them in the windings and that did quiet it down, but I'm not a fan of that.
Whenever I plugin my cart to charge I have to hit the breaker reset, then it will kick on. Once I do that everything seems ok, meter jumps to 15amps, etc. Is that normal?
Hey Wayne thanks for teaching people and offering parts. My question is that I haven’t seen asked is in the power drive 3 there are 2 heat sinks one - and one + the one we put in tests like the positive one and doesn’t work and can’t seem to find anything regarding that or find one that says negative. Thanks again
The pd3 has 2 heatsinks, and they are not the same. If you bought 1 heatsink, it will probably be the wrong one. I buy them in pairs, and I sell them in pairs, because they should both be changed at the same time. Look at my website and you will see the pair.
I have the same charger and its in good shape but it won't charge when I plug it in it only clicks once and doesn't do anything could it be my power cord because its missing the ground round pin it broke off?
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 yes my 120 volt cord is missing the ground it only has the 2 flat ends only if its not the cord what do you think it could be? Thank's
First thing to do, is try your charger on someone else's cart, and try someone else's charger on your cart, that would tell us alot, and save both of us time. Once we know the result of that, we can troubleshoot things.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 we have two of the same carts i tried the charger on the other cart and it doesn't work neither and have the same charger as this one and it works perfect on both carts
Ok, then, if you confirmed a different charger works on your cart, then the problem will be your charger. You need a voltage tester to start checking out the charger. I have a video that shows how to check each part, so start with the tester and the video. You should be able to find the problem.
Thanks but? Why not show how to disassemble the unit instead of just jumping to the repair after you have disassembled the unit. Like how to get the big stuff out before replacing smaller thing. TY

very well could be batteries, usually is. If your batteries don't have at least 44 volts in them, the charger will not come on.

If your powerdrive charger works and your pbc is still active, use the powerdrive charger.
Only use the smart charger, if you bypass the obc.
Sorry, I do not understand what you are saying?
Tell me why you do not want to charge your batteries with your powerdrive charger ?

I’m totally inept at diagnosing what’s wrong with my PowerDrive 3 charger (same exact model as video). How do I know what part to replace?
In one of my videos, I go thru how to check every part, all you need is a voltage tester. Also try your charger on someone else's cart.
are the diodes from powerdrive 2 and 3 interchangable?
What are you calling diodes? The heatsinks ?
yes....
the #3 has 2 sets and the #2 has one set......i have one set bad on a #3, but i have a set from a #2 in my parts box....they look the same
The pd3 top and side heatsinks are different
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 thanks Wayne
does the blue coated wire end go to the line or load on the circuit breaker?
What are we talking about?
My charger is making a very loud skreech noise and is getting extremely hot, what should I replace? Thanks

Meter should peg to the right, yes.
It sounds like your breaker is getting weak.

Hi
I have a power drive 3 charger the fuse is bad, do you think the rest of the charger is okay !
Some times the rectifier or heatsink goes out with the fuse.
Watch my video now to test each part, and you will know then.
Do the PowerDrive 3s always have a relay board or can they use the same relay as the PowerDrive 1,2?
Some of the pd3s have the board and some have the stand alone relays.
Where can i get the replacement parts?
If its my power cord where can I buy one? Or can I buy one from my local hardware store?
yes, nothing special about the 120 volt cord.
I have the same charger and its in good shape but it won't charge when I plug it in it only clicks once and doesn't do anything could it be my power cord because its missing the ground round pin it broke off?
