If you had a way of telling if water was always in the batteries, you could leave it plugged in. But you cant, so dont. Do not use a trickle charger. You would be best to charge and fill batteries before you leave, then disconnect all wires off the main pack positive terminal.

Another of chargers get louder as they get real old, this is because the coating on the transformer coils gets brittle and cracks, and some of it actually falls off. That is why the noise. In most cases it is ok and not a danger, but if you charge at night and your neighbor can hear it, it may be a problem. Some people have even stuck wooden golf tees in the coils to quiet them.
When you plug it to cart,v there should be a short delay before the needle moves. Then it will come on for a few seconds then turn off again. Then will turn on again and start charging. Wayne, Hi. Just found your channel. I'm a new Cart owner, I have a DS 1998 and I was wondering have you ever come across a PowerDrive 1 that only charges when it's on it's side? Isn't that weird? I am going to go watch a few more videos and see if I can diagnose this weirdness. Great channel you have here too.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Turns out it was a lose connection between the transformer and fuse. Hello Wayne, my power drive 2 charger for 2013 club car presedent 48v does not click when i plug it in, I tap on side of charger and it clicks on. Any solution would help? Thanks
Sounds like a loose connection or a bad relay. If you tap it , and it then works, . You said no click, and the only part in the charger that will " click " is the 48 volt side of the relay

When it is done, it should turn itself off, the needle should lay down on the left, it should stop vibrating. and it should be quiet. If it runs more than 16 hours, unplug it, there is some thing wrong

Question ..... I’ve took the cord from a dsr charger 48v 25a I believe and snatched the cord off the power drive 2 and exchanged them. The dsr has a 3 prong connector. The power drive has 2 of course. There’s 3 wires out of the power drive and 2 wires on the dsr. I wired everything color coded. And I got a “pop” with a spark when i touched the connector to the connector Port of the cart. I need to know if i can even do this first of all. Go from a 3 wire connector to a 2 wire and also can the white wire from the dsr go to the red wire of the power drive.
Be careful!! The powerdrive chargers have 3 wires, because the third wire in the cord is the communication wire between the obc and the charger. Your other chargers cord only has a positive, a negative, and a ground wire. Does your carts obc work? You are gonna blow something up the way you are doing this.

Im trying to follow you, but an confused. Please answer: Do you have a 48 volt club car golf cart now? Does the obc work now? Which charger is the bad one? Why are you exchanging cords?
Hi, I have a quick question about a power drive 3 charger. My question is regarding bypassing the computer to make the charger charge. I am needing to charge 4 12v batteries using this charger. There are three wires once i cut the plug off, red, black and green. Which should be used the red and black correct ?
Wait!! Dont cut anything. What exactly is the problem you have? Are the batteries so low, that the charger wont come on? Do you hear the click from the charger relay when you plug cord into cart? We can temporarily swap some wires around inside the charger, without cutting anything.
It would be easier for you to take a 12 volt car charger, and charge each battery individually. You wont be able to charge all 4 batteries at the same time with the pd3, unless you also bypass some parts inside the charger.
I have a 1995 club cart it uses that big charger you had apart will it come on if the battery's are fully charger or do the battery's need to be down on power ? thanks

Hi thanks for sharing this info....i have a question. I purchased a 2012 club car precident in 2017 and it came with the oldest charger in this video. You said that charger was for the ds model? I am now having issues with the breaker tripping often, can you tell me your thoughts please? Thanks in advance. Mike
The charger should be fine as far as being compatible with your cart. Usually the breaker trips for a few reasons: weak breaker, needs replacing Bad transformer, it would trip everytime charger is wired wrong, again trips every time. I would replace the breaker first
The breakers do get weak after years of use. If that is the only issue, replace the breaker. They are cheap, I have them on my ebay store and also my website. waynesgolfcarts.com

love your videos.. quick question I just purchased a lester links series for my club car 48volt... after trying to charge it and it not coming on I realized the obc has been bypass. Is there any thing I can do to the charger to get it to kick on?
My charger just started making a very loud noise and tripping the breaker. It's a Club Car PowerDrive 2 charger. Any idea of what would cause this? Literally happened overnight, nothing that I know of happened to the charger (physically), nor to the cart/batteries. Drove it yesterday. Went to charge this morning and charger acting crazy.,
Probably blew out the rectifier. Stick your nose up to the back of the charger, does something smell burnt? My money is on bad rectifier. My last video shows how to check a rectifier
I buy mine from Carl at EVDRIVES. The summit 2 with the club car cord cap. It is a Bluetooth charger, not that it matters to most, but it is very cool. It will automatically sense a 36 or 48 volt cart. It is very lightweight. You can only use these chargers on a bypassed club car, it won't work on a cart with an obc.
Check breaker on charger for being tripped. Plug something else into wall outlet to verify you have power. Then you could have a bad relay, or bad rectifier
When an answer to your your response to my email the long one I did leave that charger on there when the last time I left it on for I would say probably close to 20 hours and it was still hopping don't know what to do help me out
You didnt tell me how old your batteries are? I would say you could have a battery problem, or a bad relay, or a bad obc. If you will try using your charger on someone elses cart, and using someone elses charger on your cart, that will tell me what the problem is. Until you do that, you are gonna just be throwing parts at this.
The loudness is probably the charger getting old. The noise is not a bad thing other than displeasing to hear. If the breaker keeps tripping, it could be a few things, weak breaker, bad parr such as the rectifier or heatsink, even a problem with the cart, so you need to first be able to eliminate the cart and batteries, then start testing each part in the charger. I show how to do this in a video.
Dana, First I would tell you : Take a second and make sure the batteries are installed and wired properly, negative to positive etc. If the charger comes on , that means the relay inside the charger is working. Also make sure all wires are tight. We gotta figure out if the charger is overheating, or if the breaker, rectifier, etc is going bad. If you have access to another guys charger, try his charger on your cart, and your charger on his cart, to see if the problem remains, or if it follows the charger. Once that is found out, we can troubleshoot. By the way, after the 10 minutes, what exactly happens? Does charger stop? Does charger breaker trip? What?
I have a power drive one it will charge the batteries completely but it will not shut off the amp meter hand goes to zero but the charger still runs help
My first Question, is how old are your batteries? Next Would be, did this just start happening recently or did you just haven't used that cart for a while and just found this out? The The 1st thing you should try, is try charging someone else's cart with your charger and see if it does the same thing or whether it turns off. And also try your charger on the other guys cart and see what happens? And by all means, Let your charger run for at least 16 hours before you unplug it or before you worry about it. These chargers are made to timeout after 16 hours. I get so many people that get worried the charger is not turned off and pulls the plug before 16 hours. So do as I asked try your charger with somebody else cart and try somebody else's charger with your cart . And if the charger is running leave it alone and see if it will run for 16 hours, Animate still running after 16 hours then unplug it and we xan say you have a problem.
I believe what you are calling a heat sink or thing is a bridge rectifier which probably has a heat sink attached to dissipate the heat from the diodes making up the bridge. The reason the charger may not work if the battery voltage is below 34-38 Volts is because the on board computer sends voltage from the battery to pick up the 48 Volt relay in the charger and 34-38 volts is the minimum voltage necessary to pick up the relay. The relay switches the primary side of the transformer on to charge.
Hey Wayne it's Jim Johnson again I don't know what all I got really told you I know I tried another guy's charger on it and it charges right up and it shut off no problem I'm in the process of having my charger tried on a another cart I did forget to mention to you that the batteries are only meant to say maybe two months maybe three months old I'd say around two months and I've already added a gallon of water twice something is something is sucking up the water somewhere so I'm just I'm really getting frustrated
There really is only 4 things that wont allow the charger to turn off. bad battery or batteries bad obc bad charger relay bad charge receptacle If you used another charger on your cart, and it shut off, then that means your batteries and obc are probably good.

I sellb them on my ebay store for 11.00 shipped
wayne martin do you have a link or put me in the right direction
I buy mine from Carl at EVDRIVES.
The summit 2 with the club car cord cap. It is a Bluetooth charger, not that it matters to most, but it is very cool.
It will automatically sense a 36 or 48 volt cart. It is very lightweight.
You can only use these chargers on a bypassed club car, it won't work on a cart with an obc.
club car charger goes to 15 amp every time I plug in and stays there and then when batteries are charged I guess, it goes to zero, is charger bad?
Sounds good to me, that is what it is supposed to do.
My power drive 3 clicks.. But doesn’t come on..Any suggestions
The charger i have doesn't say power drive , it says IQ PLUS SYSTEM, is this the same as a power drive
Yes
I have a club car 48 volt why does every time i plug my power drive 3 charger in it hums real loud and trips my breaķer
Dana, First I would tell you :
Take a second and make sure the batteries are installed and wired properly, negative to positive etc.
And if the charger is running leave it alone and see if it will run for 16 hours, Animate still running after 16 hours then unplug it and we xan say you have a problem.
thanks for reply, and possible problem
Great video!! Thanks for sharing Wayne 👍🏾
Nice.
If my batteries are fully charged where should the needle be reading on the meter?
what meter? on cart or charger,?
If the charger, the needle should be on zero
Old navy CTM2 here(ET2 ) and I like people that Know and don’t Guess!

The relay switches the primary side of the transformer on to charge.
correct
Why do I have to hit the reset button on my power drive 3 charger every 10 seconds for a couple of times and then it won’t reset at all?
obviously something is wrong. Could be the breaker, could be a problem with a battery, obc, etc
3:20 "you can electrocute yourself, you can blow shit up." I felt that, no truer words. Lol
yes sir you need to be careful
you the best. sir blesse you
Thanks Charley!

There really is only 4 things that wont allow the charger to turn off.
bad battery or batteries
bad obc
bad charger relay
bad charge receptacle
If you used another charger on your cart, and it shut off, then that means your batteries and obc are probably good.
Thank u
Now the batteries appear they need recharging but charger will not stay on for any length of time.
48 volt club car looks to have obc
HAVE A CLUB CAR RESIDENT ASKED ME TO LOOK AT. POWERDRIVE 2 IS PEGGED AT 13 AMPS NOT MOVING UP OR DOWN. BATTERIES NEEDED WATER AND ONE CABLE REPLACED. CLEANED ALL CONNECTIONS. BATTERIES LOOK SLIGHTLY BULGED OUT ON SIDES BUT NOT MAJOR BULGE. PLUGGED CHARGER IN AND IT MOVED NEEDLE TO RIGHT ONCE AND WENT TO ZERO. THEN BACK TO 13 BUT STAYED THERE AND DID NOT MOVE. CHARGER BUZZING BUT NOT REAL LOUD. I DO NOT THINK THESE BATTERIES ARE OVER 5 YEARS OLD BUT NO DATE PUNCHED ON TOP. I THINK THEY ARE SHORTED AND HAVE MET THEIR TIME. YOUR OPINION ON PROBLEM. RESIDENT IS GONNA ARGUE NO MATTER WHAT IS WRONG. I AM NOT GETTING A FEE FOR THIS DIAGNOSIS. JUST TRYING TO HELP CLOWN OUT. 48 VOLT SYSTEM.
Batteries i would say.
Check them with a volt meter, but it sounds like Batteries for sure.
Why would someone need to replace a heat sink? It is just a piece of metal.
A piece of copper with 2 electrical diodes.
@@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Well then it is not just a heat sink as you called it in the video.
@@davidjames1684 It's a half bridge rectifier. It is what changes the voltage from AC to DC coming from the transformer.
the charger doesn't care what the voltage is! The computer on the cart uses the third sense pin to activate the charger. thats why if the voltage is too low the charger will not come on because the computer in the cart cant tell the charger to come on.. I have been a fleet mechanic at golf courses for fifteen years
Camera work was not very good. Focusing, framing the shot, needs improvement.
Thank you for your opinion sir.
You need a camera man
Are you close to me?
If so, come on down and help me ?
Very informative , thanks
