    Hi Wayne, thanks for your videos. I have the powerdrive model17930. The charger has been working fine until today it started tripping the breaker even when unplugged from the cart? The charger initially comes on with a hum, the amp meter does not move then trips the breaker. Any suggestions on which part to replace?

    Hello Wayne, I'm new to the electric golf carts. My relay is not clicking when i plug my cart in & i have 44.5 volts ? I did test my plug on the cart & it's got 44.5. Also if a solenoid sticks can you tap on it to get it to unstick. I ask this because I'm getting 44.5 volts on both large terminals with the key turned off.
    Thanks Charles

    • @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900
      @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your batteries are too low to engage your charger. Try using a 12 volt car charger on each individual battery fir about 15 minutes, then try your cart charger immediately after that to see if the relay will close. Yes you can tap on a solenoid, but that isn't your problem. Also, if you have a resistor that goes between the 2 large solenoid terminals, then you will always have volts on both sides. You need to temporarily remove that resistor to see if you have volts on both sides.

    You said at the end that there has to be at least 43 volts for the relay to close. My batteries are just two years old so I don’t think they are the problem. It started with the cart just stopped while driving and when I toed the car back home and plugged in the charger the charger clicked but didn’t give any ampere on the reader on the charger. So I assumed the charger was bad and the batteries were empty hence why my cart stopped. I have not done anything to fix this but after watching your video I might change the relay or rectifier. Here is the question; what if the batteries are good o and under 43 volts?

    • @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900
      @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you put the cart in tow before you towed it.
      Check the batteries with a volt meter. Check each one individually and also the entire pack, write down those numbers.
      Also Check volts at cart receptacle , and see what you got.
      If your numberz are good, unplug charger from the wall, then plug and unplug the cord into the cart a few times and see if youcan hear the relay click.

    • @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900
      @waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You said the charger breaker trips immediately upon the charger coming on.
      That breaker is on the 110 volt side.
      If the charger comes on and transformer hums, then the 110 is getting thru the transformer coil, that means power should be coming out the back side of transformer.
      Unhook the 2 wires going from transformer secondary to the rectifier. Separate the 2 wires so they don't touch anything, then plug charger in both ends and see what the volts are coming out the transformer.

      2 things to try first :
      First, look at the ring terminal on the red wire from charge receptacle to main positive battery post, to see if it is corroded or blown up?
      You may have to cut out a Piece of the wire and replace a terminal onto it. This is usually the most common thing I find.

      Definitely something wrong. Could be the charger, obc, batteries.
      Easiest thing to do, is to try someone else's charger on your cart, and your charger on their cart.
      That would determine if the problem is in your cart or in your charger.
      You are killing your batteries if you are still using it and only charging at 4 amps.

      If it is working, but getting hot, it could be the outside temp is hotter than the parameters of the charger, or you can have 1 or more batteries that are old, or weak, or in need of water?

    Hi Wayne! I’m a new subscriber. We just bought a 99 club car that came with the original power drive 1 charger. When I begin charging, the 15amp breaker on the charger trips within 5 minutes after charging has started. If I reset the breaker, it begins charging again, and then trips after a few on/off cycles. Any thoughts on what this may be signaling?

      @@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 Yes, the charger comes on and off, does the diagnostics, shuts off after 16 hours, does everything described in the manual. When I plug it in, it comes on in about 3 seconds and the ammeter needle pegs left below zero and vibrates the whole time.

      If it does charger, and you already changed the meter, the only things I can think of are :
      bad meter (could be poor quality control) I would try a different meter
      Wires are crossed to meter
      The short jumper harness from relay to meter is bad

      first verify your entire battery pack voltage, to make sure you have enough volts.
      Then try tugging on the gray wire that comes out the back of the cart receptacle, to see if the wire pulls out.

      @@waynemartin.waynesgolfcart4900 this video helped me understand the system enough to get it to work. however im aware i still do not understand the system.. i think the Kart might be over charging.
      to start original complaint was "its not charging" and i found the charger was never coming on.. i started by checking the battery's on the 48V system. all battery's were dead and 4 of them below 1V. i charged each one individually and got 5 out of 6 of the 8V battery's back to about 7.5V, one battery was lagging behind at about 5V. when i check the whole system connected i had 42V and thats when i was able to trip the relay in the factory charging system and get it "Fixxed"
      however the owner reports it is now charging for an extended time. i was trying to avoid them buying a battery but i now have a hunch at least that one battery needs to be replaced.. do you think that is correct? do you think something is wrong with the charger and toasted the battery's last year? or am i over thinking it.. The charger seemed to be putting in 14Amps when it said it was speced for 13Amps, this could be true or a fault in the Analog ampmeter..
      appreciate the video.. you helped at least one guy
      the machine is fixed, charging and driving.. i just wanna make sure it stays fixed and dose not make a fool of me..
