This is the best comparison / review video I've seen for both the helmets. Kudos ! I have been a longtime fan of schuberth C3 Pro. Recently went to the dealer to buy a C4 pro carbon with a friend and after we had paid for 2 helmets, found out that the anti-roll fabric straps were detached from the shell due to a faulty part. Lucky for us that we found out before we walked out of the shop as almost all the helmets the dealer had in stock had the same fault. After we caught it, the dealer offered to pay back our money and also admitted to problems with the C4 line. Both me and my friend ended up buying custom-fitted Neotec2's and I'd say it fits much much better than Schuberth for my head. Schuberth lost a loyal customer due their fuck-up and cover-up. They don't tell you but C4 line has had much more problems than is admitted by the company or dealers.
Have had my Shoei Neotec II for 7 months now. Face shield stays put in any position I choose…wind does not push it down. Likes: very quiet (should have ear plugs anyway); ventilation; ease of access to interior; protection. Could be better: pinlock could wrap further around; “sunglass” could be darker or should have polarized option; a mistake to commit to a particular comms system built into helmet…technology changes too fast; some polystyrene air channels need “shaping” as you may experience some pressure points…doable, however. You are eating cost of Schuberth pads? Very admirable customer service. My hat, or helmet, is off to you.
I am just always impressed by Chris’s knowledge and presentation skills. Love this guy and the information he gives us. Wish I lived closer to his shop because I would be a regular visitor.
I am always amazed by the built in comms systems. In the case of the C4, the speakers, microphone, antennas and wiring were built in, but the price to add the unit was similar to the price of a stand alone unit. The parts in the helmet should have reduced that price because I paid for them with the helmet. The mounting system on a stand alone unit, the mounting kit for a second helmet, would cost $80 - $100. You are buying two small boxes with no switches or moving parts. I guess they, Shoei and Schuberth, believe they can charge for convenience. Being a fan of the Packtalk with In-ear monitors, I need none of that. I have found that the speaker pockets don’t match up with my ears. The 85db noise level, while impressive, is still too loud to use without ear plugs. I have recently been working on SOP’s at work and they claim that 85db for less than 8 hours is safe. Even if that 85db was achieved for me riding my ST1300, the second I turn on the comms system, I go over that and it is doubtful that will be achieved in the turbulence behind the windscreen. My helmets are quietest on my naked bikes.
i wonder why no manufacturer has ever made a 3d scanner for the skull to make things easier for customers to choose proper helmet & liner choices to suit their head shape
Great video!! It looks like a nice helmet. (C5) That sais, reviewers, such as yourself need to start denouncing the bullcrap comm units deals that Sena likes to make. I have a neotec 2 on the way, and I am NOT looking forward to the struggle of installing my Cardo system on it. If Sena wants to get more market shares from the competition, maybe, just maybe, they would be better off making better products, rather than trying to force helmet buyers into their brand through crappy deals. As for Shoei and Schuberth... come on!!! Your lids are fantastic!! Don't do this! Arai doesn't need to force one brand on comm systems to sell helmets! Neither do you!! STOP IT!!
You can add the new SRL Mesh system to Neotec 2 now, and that's even better than C5's system, because of the Harman Kardon speakers. That being said, I still prefer the C4 Pro Carbon over the Neotec 2 and I have them both. Somehow I drew the long straw and I had none of the problems some people complain about the C4, less those things strapped to the back of the helmet that broke in both my and my wife's C4. But the visor I consider superior on the C4 because of the lower field of view that is not present in both Neotec 2 or C5. The pinlock on C4 is not 120 but I never had a problem with it in summer or winter. I find the C4 quitter, better ventilated and I can open the visor with my both hands!!. And there is the issue of the Neotec 2 that concentrates the air in one spot on my forehead that makes it painful... Your review is AWESOME - thank you!
I just bought the new G5 from a buddy of mine. He ordered it from a company in Spain and couldn’t return it. I’ve only owned a couple of relatively inexpensive helmets so, take this with a grain of salt. I found it to be incredibly comfortable. Wind buffering at 80 mph is non-existent. No need to use ear plugs any longer. One money saving feature I like is, I can comfortably fit my Apple ipods/ipod pro’s. No need to purchase expensive bluetooth products. Only negative so far, I wish the exterior sun visor slider bar was a little bigger. It’s hard to move the visor up and down with winter riding gloves on. Is it worth spending $700 on a helmet while riding a $3000 bike, definitely. It makes riding much more comfortable.
I've been a Shoei customer for over a decade but will probably be changing brands when my current GT-Air is replaced. The problem is that my preferred comm system - Cardo - will not fit on either the GT-Air II or the Neotech II (or the Schuberth C5). Since they are forcing me to make a choice between their helmet and Cardo, Cardo will win. It is, in my opinion, a better comm system than the Sena. Schuberth following this forced choice route rules their helmet out as a possible replacement for my Shoei. A number of my friends are making the same choice. hopefully Shoei will realize that not all riders like Sena comm units.
Just an FYI, i own a neotech 2 and you can indeed install any aftermarket Bluetooth headset. It won't fit in to the slots made for the Sena srl, but it installes like any older helmets where it sits on the side.
What a great in depth video on two of the top class makers of flip up helmets. I'm in the market for a new flip up helmet after christmas and really it's the fit for me and the Comms. I've never tried on either Shoei or Schuberth so that's the first thing for me to do..then it's the Comms. I don't need expensive mesh Comms so at the moment it's looking like Shoei Neotech 2 with the SRL Comms. It's all down to the fit though firstly. Thanks again for another excellent video review.
In my place. Bali Indonesia. The weather its highly humid. This type modular helmet maybe usefull at the urban riding with extra traffic jam. But i prefer fullface racing helmet cos in my experience the vent its more superb and no fogging issue even when heavy rain and even without instaling antifog. I wear shoei x14.
"Finally, we will not falsify invoices to mitigate customs charges. This is illegal, and we simply won’t do it. Sorry! " Statement from the website about overseas delivery. I love the straight forwardness and integrity. It's my understanding, however, that America does not charge custom fees for certain safety gear... of which motorcycle helmets are included. My C4 was delivered from Spain several years ago... no customs fee.
Now that we’ve been able to use the C5 for a while, some issues have surfaced. For example, that wireless buttons for the Sena unit might have saved Schuberth a wire or two, but the wireless connection is often unreliable and slow to connect to the brain. If you manage to turn it off manually, it sometimes does not automatically reconnect. The visor is another thing, although it has a better “crack position”, it just does not want to stay at any open position on a bike with a windscreen, it gets slammed shut as soon as you hit 40mph.
Where I live in the US, I doubt that I will ever have access to the alternate pads to determine whether they would make the C5 fit my head. The C4 fit my head better than the C3, but not well enough for me to actually wear it for more than 15 minutes. I ended up choosing an Arai Signet-X which is long oval and it fits well. I do miss the convenience of my Neotec 1, which was too tight front to back. I did wear the Neotec 1 for year and it fit better than anything else I had tried up to that point. Having recently tried on a Neotec 2, it might fit better than the Neotec 1. Unfortunately, I have no need for another helmet, especially at the prices charged. I am in no way saying that they aren’t worth the cost if they are quality, comfortable and safe, but I simply will choose to spend the money on something else as it is in finite supply in my house. Nice review although more experience with the C5 will be useful.
Hi Chris i had just sent an email to your team regarding this very subject a couple of days ago & Walla. Thank you for another really helpful & informative video. At the moment i have the C4 & find i get to 60 to 70 minutes and get pain in back of my head so i am looking to change as soon as i can afford to. I am in agreement with you regarding the comms, for me phone calls and maybe on the very rare occasion another rider. I like the look of the C5 but for such a premium helmet i think to only have 2 shell sizes is a bit of a let down. I am a small in the C4. So i think my hard earned money will be spent on a Shoie as long as the fit is good. So thanks once again to the chap in a cap for the comparison. 5*.
Good comment about the unique fit and experience of different riders on different bikes. I have had a chance to ride in the C5 for many months now. . For me its been a very good helmet. It's near silent with a fairing and very cheap earplugs on my R1200 gs. Sometimes I wonder if its quieter than being in my car. Also the ventilation and field of vision is really good. Can I just say that the integrated SC2 intercom is a major let down. The Cardo Packtalk was my first intercom so although the SC2 appears to perform as well as expected for an SC2 it is so poor in sound quality compared to the Cardo that I thought that something might have been wrong with it at first. I hope to have it replaced by the time of my European ride in September.
Very comprehensive review, impressed with the details. Had my C5 for a full season and it’s the best helmet I have ever used, but one major bad point it the pinlock is hazy not clear, you can see this in the videos, I’ve swapped out for a new pinlock but that’s the same, I prefer to ride with out even in tug cool and wet weather. Ps I’ve successfully and neatly fitted cardo bold and edge comms systems. I don’t agree with Mesh system comments, you easy get a days riding with a group of 5 of 6 constant talking, this may differ if not cardo, Mesh is a no brainer for bike to bike comms
thanks for the clear video. After a bad buy on the Arai Tour X4 I wanted to go back to Schuberth. Now have a Touratech Modular (is from Schuberth) went to a motorcycle clothing store in the area and tried the Schuberth C5 and the Shoei neotech2. My preference was for the Schuberth, personally found it more beautiful e. also felt more solid/sturdy. But still go for the Shoei, it fit my head perfectly. And as you said, an oval head just doesn't fit in a round helmet. Now waiting for the helmet to be delivered by the supplier, the helmet is no longer available anywhere
Shoei offer custom fit at all approved suppliers, the problem is that shoei don’t supply a fitting set with each model so down to shops to buy in all the pads and liners. And with no stock for months neither brand can custom fit at present. My seller had to order a smaller helmet and swap pads to give me the custom fit.
There has been a shortage of some Shoei pads recently, post Brexit and the Lockdown, but only in a few sizes. We always carry several hundred sets in stock. They don’t cost a lot and when you fit a replacement set you get your money back. So your dealer is cutting corners. All Shoei dealers should keep all the pads in stock all the time. If you’re serious about custom fitting, it really isn’t a huge investment. He is having to order an extra small in to get hold of a 39mm cheekpad or a 13mm liner, but why? Any serious stockist should have at least one example on the shelf of every size a helmet comes in. I do have some sympathy. We have done the same in recent weeks to get the parts we needed, but we have never had to order a helmet in to get that part. But we do now have more than 30 helmets with removed inners that we have stolen for customers. We will put the missing parts back in due course. But I have to say that I feel your dealer is making excuses. The don’t seem to really be committed to custom fitting. The Schuberth system is more difficult, but dealers who are committed to customer service will swallow the cost. CP
Thank you for the review and comparison. I disagree with your thoughts on mesh communication. Even if you ride with the same few people, the mesh system connects to your friends quickly and seamlessly. With my Cardo Packtalk, I can ride with any of my riding friends and our systems immediately pair up without any fuss. When I had Sena non-mesh systems, I was constantly losing connections and having to repair with people.
Fair enough. But I still think that for those who want only to use devices or to talk to a pillion, Schuberth’s comms. solution on offer is a bit expensive. CP.
@@JonLong that is the best. I have both sena and Cardo because the groups that I ride with uses each brand exclusively. Luckily I bought both 2nd hand at a cheap enough price.
Just use Apple airpod pros … brilliant … use in my Harley and the noise cancelling is brilliant and still allows quality sound and voice activation … combine that with and Apple Watch and iPhone on your bars and you have an amazing and integrated solution for the bike :)
@@Iron883NZ how do you interact with your phone? Advantage of bespoke system is they have control that is accessible easily. Some even have its own assistant to help you without the use of any button. Yeah you can touch your phone but I keep my phone in the bag during heavy rain since its not really waterproof
Interesting, however having owned numerous Schuberth (includingS2, C3 Pro a C4 and currently a C4 Pro and an R2 between which I swap my coms unit), I was very disappointed with the C4 but I would say that the well documented short comings of the C4 were all addressed by the move to C4 Pro. In light of that I would not wish to be an early adopter and would wait for a C5 Pro. The Shoei will have to be replaced by a compliant ECE 22.06 model and I have read that in SHARP tests the current Neotec 2 chin bar only stays closed 70% of the time in crash tests. Neither brand performs well in those SHARP tests but at least the C4 Pro chin bar stayed intact
You could be waiting a long time. The C4 Pro was introduced speedily to repair some of the issues with the original C4. But it was well over five years for the C3 Pro to replace the C3. Don’t take any notice of SHARP. I have written numerous articles about the standard. Nobody in the industry takes it seriously. It was predicated on a European Commission report called COS327, but the former BSI people ignored the recommendations and used cheaper, inferior equipment. In their first round of results they gave five stars to a cheap, £60 plastic helmet from Lazer. They gave an Arai helmet just three stars. From then on, nobody has really given SHARP much consideration. The chin test devised by SHARP has not been peer reviewed or independently tested. It has not been adopted by the new ECE 22-06 regulations, by Snell or DOT. The SHARP test is not to be given much weight. If you choose your helmets based solely on their recommendations you will probably be disappointed. The organisation is currently looking for funding to improve their test procedures in the light of 22-06, but it seems unlikely that they will be successful.
@@Motolegends Well that’s the DfT efforts to improve standards and help motorcyclists summarily dismissed and put well and truly in a box then. I can’t pretend that I was not disappointed to find my current choice of helmet not scoring well in the SHARP tests, but being “just” a customer I have no dog in the fight so to speak. With that in mind I couldn’t care less if a particular Arai didn’t score well, but I’m not going out to buy that cheap Laser either. I’m not in the target market demographic for either of those I think. However ignoring brand prestige and marketing for a moment, isn’t a good safety score for a budget helmet not good news for those who perhaps can’t afford a premium C5 or a Neotec etc?. I do enjoy your reviews on bike gear, always logical with common sense advice which is always welcome, so thank you for that.
A very good review - but one important Question is missing. Is ist possible to take out the inserts to wash them and is it easy?? I have a Schubert Helm from BMW - and it is really not easy to take the inserts out.
Great review, i think you've convinced me to remain a shoei fan, Schuberth and BMW seem to have the same marketing ideas, forcing customers to pay extra for thing's that they know thier going to want ,nothing as standard or for free, difference between German and Japanese 🤔
Brilliant review ,the schuberth visor works so much better for me , and that’s a big item one of the most important and shoie need to sort your visors Secondly How much do we pay for the built in comms , I don’t want comms but I have no choice but to have the ugly hatches and fitments all over the lid which I’ll never use
Shoei every time for me. Quality of build is outstanding. Fit for me was perfect. My only gripe is the finicky visor release mechanism. Not as impressed with the Schuberth at all. N3 raises the game further making remaining N2’s a bargain.
Another great video, whilst I’m still favouring the shoei, due to my head shape, the Schubert has has certainly got a lot closer and looks like a worthy competitor, thanks for a comprehensive review
I had a Neotec with a Sena 20. The battery life was terrible. I couldn't ride a whole day without a dead battery. The SC1 on my C4 Pro Carbon never had battery issues. You can't sell me a Shoei helmet because I live in the USA.
I finally got the chance to try on the US spec C5. It fits pretty well although it was a little wide. When the alternate pad sets become available, I would like to try it out. Otherwise, it is relatively quiet and comfortable.
Great review Chris. My head fits C3 Pro perfectly and as much as I like Shoei helmets every time I try one I feel pressure on both sides. From your experience what other brands come close to Schuberth's shape? I'm particularly interested in the adventure segment. Cheers
Chris, technical question Schuberth C5 sizing chart sucks. I am 58cm and L is too big. Can I buy the "oval head padding kit" for the size M and fit this to the L? the shell sizes are the same, but not sure if the inner fixed padding changes sizes or its just done with the changeable paddings. So I am asking can I change an L into M with a padding kit?
I like the fact that with Schuberth the strap does not allow the helmet to come off in accident. But the down side is that your head gets ripped off in the 1% probability case.
Cardo is prominent where I live and wouldn’t need a helmet with SENA. However, I’ve heard from others that the preexisting speakers in the helmet would would need to be removed. Any other options?
Actually this is a no brainer. Go with the one that fits your head. That is what the dealer said and i didn't pay too much attention as any large helmet will fit your head. Well that's what i thought until i tried on the C5. Couldn't get a large near my head. The Xl felt roo big but really uncomfortable. The shoie felt brilliant, as does my HJC rpha 11. Do not buy a helmet online without trying that model beforehand. I got lucky with the hjc.
Shoei N2 was easy to order different cheek and forehead pad sizes. As Chris said, such things were not available for Schuberth C4. Good move to have this on the C5!!
I love these videos. For various reasons, I am no longer able to mount a machine and ride off into the sunset! However, it doesn't mean I can't dream and keep up to date with new innovations in bikes ,clothing and other kit. I am truly jealous of the superb bikes available for todays riders and the enjoyment that they will get from them. BTW, I like the woollen waistcoat, very stylish.
Thanks Chris, a thorough look into these 2 top models I very much appreciate. I personally had a neotec 2 and am now with a c3 pro and a wish to change in the near future. If you hadn't these 2 available, which other one/s would you propose? cheers
I ride a naked bike and my head gets slapped around by the wind with my current helmet. Any advice on how they cut through wind? Which one do you think has the most stabilizing aerodynamics?
Does MotoLegends order directly from the manufacturer or is it through a “supply house”? In my part of Canada, it’s the latter. As a result, should I need different sizing of cheek pads/headliner, I have to swallow the cost. Just ordered a SHOEI N2 and expect it in by late Jan 22. You folks do a crackerjack job of showcasing your stock and pull no punches on the likes or dislikes of a product. Merry Christmas from the left side of the pond.
Dear Randy We work through a UK distributor as do all the retailers in the UK. But we still offer the service to swop cheek pads. This is supported by the UK distributor but clearly the Canadian one does not do the same. Hope you have a good Christmas too. ML
The thing that kills me about this helmet is the chin bar, it's so thick that you won't be able to see your gauges on a naked bike- Way different than the C4 which was a turd but at least you had a great field division. Also the big benefit of the Sena S50 is it recognizes Google & Siri assistants, not mesh. The internal sun visor is also way too high on the new model. It looks like it would be an inch above your nose in the lowest position which lets a whole bunch of air & bugs hit your eyes when you have the visor open in congested traffic on a hot day.
best com is the cardo packtalk black. i have the neotec 2 and my wife the c5. ı buyed booth with the integrated intercom and switched to 2 packtalks black from cardo realy fast. but from comfort wide the neotec fits better than the c5.
I stopped the video to disagree about your stance on not trying the helmet because every head is different. I'll explain why. The users explain their head size and shape at the beginning. That gives you a point of reference. Things like noise should be fairly standard unless someone bought the wrong size helmet. And maybe that 1 video didn't help but when you have a repository of tens or hundreds of videos to watch you have a good enough database to give a good idea of what each helmet is like. Now back to the video.
Hello, I´ve watched some reviews but these are most informative, understandable, with insights and high entertaining factor. So five thumbs up for this..oops, ok two should work... Thx a lot!
I'm confused. So does this mean that if I have a schuberth C5 with a sc2 coms. And a friend of mine as a different Bluetooth coms system. Will I still be able to talk with him? Or the sc2 only works with sc2. Like, if my pillion has a different helmet with a different coms, would it pair as well?
The important thing is the brand of comms.. The SC2 is Sena so will pair easily with any other Sena. Will also pair easily with UCOM models from Interphone as those have a Sena chip. It is not easy to pair intercoms from different manufacturers. Some manufacturers say you can but is is never straightforward and normally requires ‘tricking’ the units into pairing. So our advice is go for same brand on comms. But doesn’t have to be same model.
Are those built-in speakers in the C5 removable? I use a Sena 10C and I'm very much dependent on it for the dashcam-like video-tagging feature for evidence purposes.
Bit late but yeah they’re removable. I’ve got a sena 10r, I’ve left the ones in it that came in as they’re all on the plugs anyways. No loads of room to fit your intercom but it’s definitely do-able.
I have a Neotec II and have totally enjoyed all it’s excellent features. I think the only thing the coms should have is replaceable batteries. Why do I have to pay for a mic and earphones when they’re A okay.
Any idea if we can install any other communication system ( other than SC2 which seems will not be available soon in our market ) and still benefit from the pre installed Earphones/speakers
Has there been any sort of indication of a Neotec 3 coming out? My Neotec 2 is starting to get a bit worn but wouldn't want to buy another 2 when a 3 is likely due out!
Hopefully Shoie will do a second mesh version soon . I think they should both do a Bluetooth version and a mesh. Better choice for the customer . I've had mesh 30k for 4years on my Shoie I won't be going back to a Bluetooth version.
There will be an SRL 3 which will fit in Neotec 2, GT Air 2 and J-Cruise 2 and that will be Mesh. The SRL 2 will still be available so there will be a choice for consumers.
Having integrated comms is a big NO for me and a reason not to buy the helmet. I do not want speakers in the pockets, i use a Cardo system so do the people that i ride with. So for me its just extra money poored in a helmet thats completely useless.
You might want to read our recent Facebook post about safety and externally-fitted comms.. if you want to be sure that you are not compromising the primary function of a helmet, integrated is the way to go. CP
@@Motolegends Pure on safety i fully agree. Its a concession i personally make (its also a pretty easy break away point). After having several Sena systems with pretty much all just bad experiences Cardo is the way to go. (Which is lso pretty unanimously tought of as the best system)
Only two; and in our view this is sub-optimal. Embarrassingly, I forgot to mention this fact in this review, although I did talk about it in my previous one. At times, however, too much emphasis can be put on the number of shells. There are helmets out there with four shell sizes that nobody would want to wear; yet a lot with two that anybody would. The acid test is fit; if a helmet fits, then I wouldn’t be too bothered about the number of shell sizes. Schuberths have never had more than two shell sizes; and on the C3 this was never really an issue. With the C4, the issue was not the number of shell sizes, but the fit; it just wasn’t very accommodating. CP
@@Motolegends Thank you, sir. I agree with everything stated, and generally I do not care about shell sizes..except that some bigger shells do not or cannot fit well in my top case. This is my default helmet storage location and a prized convenience. I'd like to share an odd thing I encountered with my prior C4. To my understanding, and for whatever reason, size L in the American market utilized the big shell, while the same size in Europe appears to utilize the small shell. So, even tho I had the same size helmet according to Schuberth, one would fit in my top case and the other would not. For this reason, although I'm in America, I only order helmets from Europe... presuming the safety regs maybe allow less foam and potentially a smaller shell if my size is borderline.
Excellent review (as always). Thanks! However, I don’t believe you adressed the fact that the C5 only comes in two shell sizes? Do you see this as a problem? My head measures 60cm, so I probably need a XL, but I don’t want an overly bulky shell. Thanks 🙏🏼
Sorry, Jacob; you are absolutely right. In my last video on the C5 I did talk about this, but forget to do so here. My fault; not intentional. On a subconscious level, perhaps I wanted to give the helmet a chance, and not dwell on perceived weaknesses? I don’t know! In your case, I don’t think the look of the shell will appear overly large. It can happen if you have an ‘extra small’ head in the smaller shell size. Or a ‘large’ head in the larger shell size, but as an ‘extra large’ in the larger shell it won’t look untoward. I think you should try it on to see how it feels. Honestly, it can be a mistake to obsess over the aesthetics. The important thing is fit and comfort.
@@Motolegends Unfortunately I'm one of those with a smaller head (small to x-small size). That did factor a bit for not buying a C4 Pro. Not sure I want to look like a bobble head. I'll have to check out the C5 since my head shape is round and Shoei helmets generally don't fit well.
@@Motolegends No worries and thank you very much for your reply. I was actually thinking about safety - not aesthetics (but did not express it clearly :-)). So I'm wondering whether being a XL (the smallest size in a large shell size) makes it less safe (=more foam, lining etc.)? I hope the question makes sense :-)
Wrong again. The physical shapes of the two helmets are very different, they are not alike, in fit, shell size, padding and comms system components. The only thing similar is the clarity of the face shield. Just because they are both modular, doesn’t make them alike or close in design or fit and they do fit very differently. the chin bar design is very different between both models. I think the most important difference is the Shoei has a protected chin bar release mechanism and the C5 does not. What does that mean? If you do a face plant onto the chin of the two helmets, the chin bar will release on the C5 as soon as contact is made with the road surface. It does not on the Shoei, the bar release is protected on the edge of the chin bar preventing accidental opening of the chin bar. I think that this is the most significant safety difference between the two. In fact the C4 and C5 are exactly the same in this regard. The C3 is slightly different but the release is also unprotected but tucked further back in the helmet and looks to be more difficult to release if you are doing a Superman flying crash and land the chin first in a high-side crash. I own and ride with a C3, C4 Pro, and I just picked up my C5 but have only ridden once with the helmet, so i cant really comment on its performance. My C3,4 and 5 are all size 59 (L) helmets. My C3 is actually the most comfortable of the Schuberth helmets, the Shoei Neotech II is next in comfort. I also owned a Neotech I but have since sold it. As I recall the Neo I was heavier and felt larger. My neck would tire after a period of time with the Neotech I. The Neotech II is lighter and a step up over the Neo I. The Comms unit on the NEO II is better than the Schu C4 Pro. The Comms unit on the C5 is much better and the hand controls for it are a big improvement over the C4, SENA must have realized and corrected the issue on the C5. The Comms on the Shoei Neo II is OK and is easier to operate when wearing the helmet. Ill give the C5 the win in the comms department. The C3 did not have a built in comms option. I believe the C5 will be quieter than the Shoei, the C4 Pro is and the shape and fit of the C5 tell me it will also be quieter. Both Schuberth helmets seal are around the neck better and block out road and bike noise better. You can tell that just by swapping them out standing next to a road with traffic. If you have a fat neck or round head, you will need the XL Shuberth but you may be able to slip into the L Shoei. Try them all, see what fits you best.

In my experience those two can't compare, Shoei is a leap ahead quality wise and especially in the customer service! Great content and really good videos!
I wonder if a 300 gram weight difference between Helmets makes the lighter helmet exponentiallly safer than the heavier helmet in a crash (physics behind how mass affects impact)... I'm only thinking of this after seeing how the AGV Sports modular helmet is 200 to 300 grams lighter than most other modular Helmets... at least here th-cam.com/video/F8QKJ3Q8EZg/w-d-xo.html
Given that the full weight of your head and your body will normally be adding to the weight of the helmet in the event of an accident, the saving of 220g/300g. in its construction will usually make little difference in the event of an accident. The lightness can make a difference in terms of fatigue on the track, but on the road not so much. It also has to be borne in mind that carbon fibre doesn’t necessarily make for a more protective outer shell. Carbon shells are not necessarily stronger than composite ones; they are just lighter. CP
Battery life only 2/3 rd's of the time on Mesh than Bluetooth? I think not! I often have fifteen riders in my pack all on Cardo Packtalk Bold units. I play music, make brief calls, send text messages, and talk to the other riders all day long, returning home after 225-300 miles, and my device still never has less than 50% battery power remaining! Schuberth should have partnered with Cardo. After using the Sena units in the Neotec II, you couldn't pay me to use Sena again - 'say a command'?!?! 🙉
Yes, if all your mates use Cardo, then you can’t easily talk to them with a Sena set up; you are going to need Cardo, as the two systems don’t easily communicate with one another. There will be no difference in battery life between a Sena and a Cardo; my only point was, and is, that Mesh consumes more battery power than Bluetooth. I have never had a problem talking all day ‘on tour’ with my Sena, and for most people the same will apply to Sena’s Mesh system. This issue is not so much about a day out; the battery longevity is more about how often those who commute every day will have to re-charge their units. CP.
Trust me it's better for your bank balance you cannot just pop in.......lol
That sais, reviewers, such as yourself need to start denouncing the bullcrap comm units deals that Sena likes to make.
Ill never buy senna again after wasting my money on the sena sc1 in my schuberth e1 useless system
I fitted cardo edge to my neotec 2 without a problem.
It didn’t take long for me to take out the SRL and replace it with a Cardo
Both helmets are top of the line, basically, it comes down to which helmet feels and fits better. Thank you for the in_depth review.
Couldn't agree more!
This is the best review anyone has ever made about a motorcycle helmet, absolutely brilliant!
Hi mate, what does sc2 stand for?? Is the C5 integrated sound quality poor then?
CP
Outstanding review and comparison at a much more detailed and deliberate level than I expected. Bravo!
CP.
@@Motolegends Totally agree. I wish the helmet manufacturers would just come up with an open standard for integrated comms systems.
I am a bit curious about the ventilation comments. The intake and exhaust vents on the Shoei look huge in comparison to the Schuberth.
Brilliant review ,the schuberth visor works so much better for me , and that’s a big item one of the most important and shoie need to sort your visors
Secondly How much do we pay for the built in comms , I don’t want comms but I have no choice but to have the ugly hatches and fitments all over the lid which I’ll never use
Shoei every time for me. Quality of build is outstanding. Fit for me was perfect. My only gripe is the finicky visor release mechanism. Not as impressed with the Schuberth at all. N3 raises the game further making remaining N2’s a bargain.
Agreed, some riding reviews of helmets are not helpful at all.
Another great video, whilst I’m still favouring the shoei, due to my head shape, the Schubert has has certainly got a lot closer and looks like a worthy competitor, thanks for a comprehensive review
Thank you for watching the video!
Sir you are a a god send. Your knowledge is mind blowing. Thank you so much I just wish I lived near your store.
Just discovered this shop, and this kinda of in-depth review will have me popping over to make a few purchases. Superb!
Cardo is prominent where I live and wouldn’t need a helmet with SENA. However, I’ve heard from others that the preexisting speakers in the helmet would would need to be removed. Any other options?
Very knowledgable. Sadly I may have to rule both out because I want nothing more to do with Sena - EVER. Packtalk is streets ahead.
Amazing review as always. Is it true that Shoie helmets sold in Europa has a different shape than the ones sold in Asia?
Can you be a passenger David ?
Appreciate honesty on cost vs value on comms.
Thanks Chris, a thorough look into these 2 top models I very much appreciate. I personally had a neotec 2 and am now with a c3 pro and a wish to change in the near future. If you hadn't these 2 available, which other one/s would you propose? cheers
Have you seen the pad sets or are you still waiting for them? Do they fulfill the promise of being able to fit a greater variety of head shapes?
A thorough and brave review, it's this feedback that will keep me coming back to motolegends
Glad you enjoyed it!
Have the neotec 2 , hate that the visor opens to much on its 1st setting. Also I prefer cardo coms.
I ride a naked bike and my head gets slapped around by the wind with my current helmet. Any advice on how they cut through wind? Which one do you think has the most stabilizing aerodynamics?
Fitted both c5 and neotec 2. I find it weird fitting c5 because my face is almost at the front of the visor. So i ended up with neotec 2.
Never heard of this guy or the shop, but I'd shop there. Shame I'm in central Europe though!
How does the field of vision compare among C4 Pro, C5 and Neotec 2?
C4 Pro was a bit bigger but not as good a helmet as the other two.
Dear Randy
We work through a UK distributor as do all the retailers in the UK.
Just a great channel. Keep up the outstanding work. We appreciate you.
Thank you for your kind words!
Does the Schuberth still come in only 2 shell sizes? If so I am out. The Shoei comes in 4 or 5 shell sizes for a much better fit
My current Schuberth is almost gone need I will be in England next fall. I will stop in and hopefully you will have the new E2.
Is the quality of the sound better in the C5 than the C4 which is horrendously tinny and empty?
I bought N2 based on fit and comfort. It suited my head shape
My old Schubert concept helmets used to have water leakage from the visor top. Is that still an issue?
Can I use earbuds with the sc2 instead of the helmet speakers?
best com is the cardo packtalk black. i have the neotec 2 and my wife the c5. ı buyed booth with the integrated intercom and switched to 2 packtalks black from cardo realy fast. but from comfort wide the neotec fits better than the c5.
I'm sitting here looking at these two helmets and I am trying to figure out how I am going to mount my GoPro to the front of either 😑
Hello, I´ve watched some reviews but these are most informative, understandable, with insights and high entertaining factor. So five thumbs up for this..oops, ok two should work... Thx a lot!
Nortec 2's chin bar failed 30% of the time in SHARP testing. C4 Pro failed 3%. C5 to be tested next year. Be safe!
Just removed the Shuberth C5 from box , first ride , totally disappointed , the visor is loose and can't stand open even at 40 km/hr speed 😡😡😡😡😡
Thanks for a brilliant comprehensive review.
You can have that if you buy the cardo Sh01 system for the Neotech.
There was a problem with the C3 that ‘panels’ fell off. I see that the C5 has many panels?!!?
Any idea if we can install any other communication system ( other than SC2 which seems will not be available soon in our market ) and still benefit from the pre installed Earphones/speakers
No. You won’t be able to install a different comms and link in to existing speakers. We have stock of comms!
Has there been any sort of indication of a Neotec 3 coming out? My Neotec 2 is starting to get a bit worn but wouldn't want to buy another 2 when a 3 is likely due out!
No earlier than the end of 2023.
I think you guys should record a new intro with the miniature drum set. Just sayin'.
@@Motolegends Amazing do you have a date for that ? I think you have just made my day I do like my Shoie but will be trying both👍
Having integrated comms is a big NO for me and a reason not to buy the helmet.
I have a Sena S20 Evo coma unit, will this fit the Schuberth C5?
no
Thanks for the excellent review. By the way it's pronounced "show-eh" not "shoe-ee".
How many shell sizes for the C5.. I wonder. C4 only had two shells I believe.
Loved the c3 pro, but passed on the c4 because the chin was brought in too close. Did they fix that on the c5?
They said it was fixed
@@app1mxh Thanks!
@@aBluegrassPicker Mine arrives this weekend. Will keep you posted
Great review and fantastic advice x
Thank you so much!

Unfortunately I'm one of those with a smaller head (small to x-small size).
Very Good Work ... Very Detailed , thanks
How is the C5 fit comparing to C3 pro?
Watch the video! CP
Bravo!! Excellent presentation to help us understand each helmet in minutiae !! 33:33
Great video, very informative 🏴
Glad you think so!
thanks for the info. I am in South Africa 🇿🇦, and want to purchase the C5 with the comms unit.
Do you do shipping to SA?
Yes, of course. But if the size is wrong, it can become an expensive exercise. CP
@Motolegends which company do you use for the courier? Is it UPS? Also, do you have an estimated delivery time once the order is placed ?
Please send us an email with the products you would like to order and we will answer all this questions as soon as possible.

2 Shell sizes to fit millions of different head shapes and sizes? Great job with another lazy release! No wonder Arai and Shoei is doing so well.
They make a variety of pads. I assume it is cheaper to customize pads than manufacturer and maintain different shells.
Neotec for me, great lid
The Sena in the shoei does not work very well . The volume is far to low . After 40mph it's useless fact
Are you using the App? Turn the volume up in the App. I think this problem should be solvable. We have hundreds of customers who wouldn’t agree so you may have set up wrong.
@@Motolegends too late I tried everything. It's in the bin now . Pack talk bold now . Massive difference
I wanted to buy a C5 from you, but EU prices are much lower. I understand why you can't price match EU prices.
Fantastic Video. Thank you
In my experience those two can't compare, Shoei is a leap ahead quality wise and especially in the customer service!
Great content and really good videos!
Thank you for watching the compare video!
Sorry.I have neotech 2 .The paint bubbled.The customer service doesn't reply.I had 3 schuber,never a problem.
CP
Excellent review 👍
Thank you!
CP.
