I owned mayflash f500 elite.. Has no lag issue.. All sanwa part.. Not sure about f 300 but f500 elite is definitely a good stick, easy to mod, universal stick.. You won't regret buying f500 elite
I ramble a bunch below but tldr: this video was essential for making my first fighting stick and I am loving it! Wanted to give my thanks for the awesome information you share. Also I am a Taeyoung Fanta Lever supporter now. This video got me to commit to the jump into fighting sticks. Last year I got into fighting games with friends and been really enjoying it, but I wanted to experience the old arcade feel. I know you actually recommended against doing a custom stick, and I looked at several besides the ones you showed. Due to how particular I was about what I wanted, I went with a Gen 2 Clear Plexi DIY Kit. It really taught me how to build one, everything I needed, and lets me see cool custom art on top (and bottom when I figure out the art for that face). I finally finished putting it together and testing today with the Brooks Universal PCB, Sanwa Buttons, and a Taeyoung Fanta lever (wanted to dive in with it off the bat)! It is so satsifying to put together and see work as a hands-on learner. I am going to ease into using it like your other video suggests and oh boy is it an adjustment from console controllers. But I am having fun learning the different feel. I have Gurran Lagann artwork as the top face and super happy with how it came out.
This definitely had a wealth of information. I did try out the hori rap and then swap out parts but after a week I just got rid of it because the build wasn't what I wanted in a stick. I ended up getting a hori fighting edge which just felt very premium and felt like I didn't waste money on a case in my personal preferences. Then I swapped out the stick and buttons and have a setup I feel okay with and it feels great. I may swap the board out for brook eventually but I'm a PC player so I don't feel like I need to yet.
I picked up an old Saturn HSS-0136 which had a Seimitsu LS-56 in it. Liked it, tried a short throw mod with an octogate and really liked it. I need a stick for my other consoles now - thanks for the tips, looks like a used HRAP is the way to go.
I bought a PS4 Hori stick a year back (it was the rare PS4-149 one that was asia only) because luckily PS4 sticks have PS5 backwards compatibility. Used is the way to go if you want to get into sticks for affordability especially if you play on just PC.
Have been playing around with the stock JLF for over a month (while waiting for mods to arrive ha!) At stock it was always too soft with too long a throw for my liking.. Mods arrived.. 2lb spring Kowal 1mm oversized actuator Battop Now it feels tight and very precise thanks to the 2lb spring and Kowal actuator, which shortened the throw. I only play 2D beat em ups and Shumups and the difference from stock is night and day! I have the ‘Fanta taeyoung - hemi short collar’ to compare. The Fanta feels awesome with the tightness of that rubber grommet but diagonals can get missed if you don’t engage firmly enough. The tightness of the modded JLF feels about the same as a 35A-40A grommet for the Fanta. Highly recommended parts for JLF owners wanting something that feels more precise and similar to Korean lever.. An ‘Octogate’ is not necessary, diagonals are quicker with the standard square gate and easier, while the throw is even slightly smaller by 1.5mm with square gate! 👍
I'm with you on the Etokki stick, but I found it's travel was a little long for my needs, so I modded the hell out of mine to get it just so. I made the actuator sleeve (the bit that contacts the switch levers) bigger by winding scotch tape around it so it actuates sooner, got a shorter shaft and then reduced the distance the stick can travel so you aren't over-stressing the levers. It's also fairly loose. That's the great thing about almost all these sticks, you can easily tailor them to your needs.
Totally agree with you on the Korean sticks. I prefer the Knee Lever, though; if you have the money, get it. But in general, Korean sticks are f'n awesome. I've tried the 49S as well, and it was awesome. I bought a second Knee lever for my second stick, so I sold the 49S to a buddy of mine and he loves it, too.
@@TheElectricUnderground Of course! arcadeshock.com/collections/frontpage/products/ist-rox-knee-lever Super hard to find right now. I bought mine from Focus Attack when they had stock a couple months ago. I replaced the engraved bat tops since I didn't want to wear those down.
I'd wanna point out that i dunno about the F300 but the F500 is actually easy to mod, I have a Hitbox-ish allbutton layout on it now. No soldering required.
Excellent content. I just found your channel because I've just now decided to take shmups seriously, and I think you're utterly unique in providing an accessible pathway. Thanks for that. One thing I'd like to add: theoretically, PS5 compatibility isn't a concern with PS4 sticks, since the console is already slated to be compatible with "almost all" PS4 titles in an unprecedented level of backwards compatibility. Presumably, that degree of compatibility will extend to peripherals like arcade sticks and wheels, since the reason for the "almost all" status of compatibility is architectural similarity, meaning it should be very easy to extend that compatibility to peripherals as well as games.
The stock Hori Wii stick is going to be my pick for PC with a Raphnet converter. It's simple and no-nonsense, even if I don't really use turbo. I use a ball, but my dad prefers the bat to account for the analog body he threw it on.
Hori has a good rep. I have a couple of cheap Hori sticks for my 360 and I like them. I'm also a fan of the stock Dreamcast stick and the Japanese Saturn stick (HSS-0136). I have the Tatsunoko v Capcom stick for the Wii which is a really nice job but I had to swap out the buttons for Sanwa ones - it's all solder free inside so it was easy.
Got a few sticks here, but have weeded 1 of those out. I've settled on a Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite Razer Panthera with a removable cord and Sanwa parts for PS5 and the 8-Bit-Do Bluetooth NES stick for Switch. The Psikyo games are very playable with it, the Live Wire ports are excellent, Crimzon Clover, Infinite Burst, Psyvariar etc etc are all excellent. I also have the Streetfighter Ryu Hori RAP for Switch. It's a wired stick and counter to what you'd expect it's actually laggier than the 8-Bit-Do - seemingly, the dock adds frame(s) of lag. Hopefully this helps people make their decision when buying a stick. I totally recommend the first 2. I also had the Capcom Home Arcade and took a £20 hit on it to get rid of it. That thing is a mess - this giant Capcom logo that cost £200 (I paid £100 in a sale and sold for £80) and runs worse than the £30 Arcade Stadium.
the brook pi board is pretty damn good in terms of lag and costs around $25 (it just doesn't do every console though it does the top 4/5). I saw a table of converter lags but don't remember where and it was pretty responsive.
Nice video. I have the ELUSIVE xarcade solo. I've modded it with Happ buttons and the flawless IL EUROSTICK. A white one. Great for arcade emulation. I have adapters for use on pa2, GameCube, Dreamcast, ECT...
Nice! there is also the brooks retroboard you can throw in there and dual mod to bypass needing the adapters :-D I'll have to do a vid on that in the future.
Very useful video Mark! I bought at the end of 2018 a Mayflash Elite modding It with a LS-32. Great lever but the board eventually killed my experience with It, so i am playing with d-pad now. What makes me stop with giving another try is the incoming PS5 but if the Brooks board will be surely compatible via firmware I will reconsider my decisions 😅
I'm all over the place with arcade sticks. I have several arcade cabinets, and I like the sticks to be correct for the game, not what is most comfortable. My Popeye has a 4-way stick correct for the cabinet. Time Soldiers has to have LS-30 rotary sticks, and I swap in pcbs for Gondomania, Guerrilla War, Heavy Barrel, etc., and I even keep a Data East set of those sticks as well in case I want the round top that the Data East games used vs the octagonal SNK sticks. My Neo Geo MVS has Happ sticks like would be correct for the era, and so on. When I build superguns or arcade sticks, I tend to mix it up. I'm nostalgic for the feel of Happ sticks, as a lot of my teen years in the early '90s had them, even though they are obviously not high quality, responsive levers. For fighting games, I like the Seimitsu sticks. For arcade sports games, I really like crappy loose Chinese levers like knockoff Zippy sticks. I never shun my D-pads, either. I'm not a competition-level player at most games, but I like to keep versatile, even though some games I just can't do on controller... like Black Tiger. On arcade stick, 1cc, usually one life. On controller, it's a crap shoot. Guilty Gear X, I can crank up the difficulty all the way and 1cc with a stick, Dreamcast controller, or PS2 controller. Just please don't ask me to play video games with a Gamecube controller. It makes me sad.
@@justsayin4632 Heheh, you got me there. I don't hate the games; I play them with my kids, but they definitely aren't personal favorites. My inner old man prefers traditional 1 on 1 2D fighters from the Capcom, SNK, and Arc System Works pedigrees if I'm going to play a fighter. My Neo Geo AES, MVS, Dreamcast, and Saturn get my fighter time. That GC controller is just too cramped for my hands to the point of being uncomfortable to use for long, and I really don't like the C-stick nub and button layout... and that D-pad is horrifically tiny. It's a subjective thing, though, and I can at least understand why some people adore it, whether nostalgia, hand fit, or how it suits a specific game. As for me, I'll take almost any controller over the Gamecube's. Maybe not a floppy Atari 5200 stick...
@@bananonymouslastname5693 I’m a 40yo SF head myself. But let me tell you, between me and my nine-year-old son, our Smash rivalry is just as brutal and bloody as any other fighting game😂 Pro controller works just as well at a larger size. The D-pad in Smash is only used for taunting. Believe me, I felt just like you when I first tried Smash. But if you give it a shot, and maybe set it to tournament rules (1v1, three stock, no items, since items are what make it feel like the “Mario Kart“ of fighting games) it can get as deep and nuanced as any fighter. I’m talking strictly about Smash Ultimate. The previous entries all had major flaws that would’ve kept them from being as competitive as I think they should have been. But Ultimate is extremely polished. I’ll always be an SSF2T guy til I die, but I can say from experience, don’t knock it til you try it!😀
I over spent on a qanba dragon.. really flashy, HEAVY, but I've only used it like 5 times.. I spend a lot more time with my xbox 360 hori xv stick. Both are stock.
I ended up getting a Qanba Pearl recently because it was the only stick on the market I could find that came with Sanwa Parts new out of the box. Wish there were more options, these days they seem slim, and it was either sanwa or seimitsu for me.
Great info! I think the raps are extra sweet for shmups with the start/options button on the top. you don't have to reach to the front of the case to start your credit.
Zelude Rose Hey I got a quick question. So I've mostly played shmups and want to try my hand at a fighting game. It seems daunting to get into but what game would you recommend to a complete beginner. Only experience I'd have is watching and playing a small amount of competitive Melee.
@@utikt this would actually be much easier to answer over a chat service rather than youtube comments if thats ok - got discord? mine's "zelrose🌹#0694", feel free to add me & ill answer any question youve got :)
Yes! Shmups are played on arcade stick as well (for the most part) :-D Yeah give it a try! I was primarily a fgc guy as well before shmups. I still love fighting games of course, but would love for more people to check out shmups.
With these parts where you get into the weeds on foreign stick parts, would be very useful if you put the part names on the screen (or even just in the description) so we can have an easier time looking them up, thanks.
Qanba sticks have never failed on me. I heard a rumor tho where on KoF13, only on QanbasQ4 people would get random button presses, but it was rare and no one figured it out. Qanba Drone, Obsidian and Dragon are really solid sticks. Drone is IMO the best mini-stick in the market, better than any mayflash or madcatz alpha. The infamous Razer stick insident happened on the Razer Atrox, those are not even sold anymore, the Razer Pantheras is a really solid stick, the EVO version is lesser but it's still descent. The only debacle is with Razer not selling the panthera's cable. People just need to take care of them. Hori is the worst when it comes to input lag. Just trying any HRAP4 for ps3/ps4, or Hori Vewlix (Both the Black and Red+Black) have huuge amounts of input lag. Then the OG Hori Edge with it's touch panel was a horrible idea, I own the White one and it's very uncomfortable, the ps4 hori edge fixed this issue. Pretty much the only ones good Hori sticks are the HRAP N , HRAP 3 VXSA (360), HRAP3SA (PS3), HEdge (PS4) . Hori released a competitor to the qanba drone with NOIR layout but it never came here to the US. Also when it comes to the UFB, there are EZ Mods bundles with the UFB available on arcadeshock so people can also have access to the touch panel and the rest of the menu buttons.
Yeah I never owned the hori ps4 sticks so I have no idea about them and that s why I didn t recommend the ps4 versions. I do know that the hori vxsa (the 360 stick) has excellent input lag response time. So that s why i recommend that one if playing unmodified but the ps3 versions if you want a cheap solid case and then swap on a brooks board. I m behind on the newer sticks like the quamba and razers, but I generally shy away from newer models because of the pricing.
The Electric Underground you are right. People still find it hard to justify spending $200 on an arcade stick so used sticks are the best approach for new comers. I love your videos man thank you. I’m a fan of your channel. I’m still trying to 1cc my first shmup (garegga or ketsui) and your videos are very helpful.
@The Electric Underground I believe Hori improved input lag with the Fighting Edge for PS4, it is only compatible with PS4 and not PS3 which probably helps. I own it and it seems great. However, your used husk + Brooks board is probably the smarter route. Fighitng Edge looks nice though! Those EZ mods are intriguing.
I've had a Qanba Q4Raf for a few years now and its never let me down. The metal chassis gives a good weight and solidity to it. Never had problems with button presses but im not a prolific kof player. When i bought mine it cost about £120. I use it on xbox 360,pc and ps4 through a brooks convertor. Im not well up on lag and stuff but it serves me well.
Taeyung were the low quality clones of the real Fantastick made by Myoungshin with Gersung switches and higher quality centering rubber, problem is these are out of production, Myoungshin Fantas are nowhere to be found now, so now options are either Crown or old stock of Taeyungs. Then I don't know about any korean lever ever being sold with Panasonic/Matsushita switches, old Seimitsu levers did had these, but now Seimitsu uses Omron switches
i have seimitsu buttons in my darius modstick which was a datel arcade pro (my profile pic) they are really good actually! but nothing beats sanwa buttons they are the best for trigger heavy games.
i have a tekken 7 hrap for my ps4. its a very nice arcadestick with the hayabusa parts. but i prefer a seimitsu ls32 and sanwa buttons which i modded in my qanba q4raf. i always wanted to try a korean stick so my question is can i mod a fanta korean stick in my hrap?
I showed my little cousin my Magic cards. ..... :-D .... .. I got , O.G. , BETAs yeah , I showed him because he loves the Pokemons yeah hahahahahaha. And he was Enthralled immediately.
Good stuff, Mark! I've been happy with my Mayflash F500 Elite so far, but I went specifically for the Elite stick because it had the Sanwa stick and buttons right from the factory, and wasn't that much more than the base F500. I would like to do a custom stick at some point, but this was what was in my budget to start with, for all the systems I wanted to connect to: PS3/4, Switch, 360 & PC. The one thing that bums me out about the Brooks Retro Board is that you can't do Genesis with it, due to how the Genesis is different enough from everything else, but at least I know I can take a beat up pad and try to do a pad hack for that. But the Universal and Retro board build will be costly, so your suggestion of a Hori PS3 stick base is good. Custom cases are expensive, and the price has scared me away from going that route for now.
@@Dreamerpunk I don't believe there's been any lag, other than what each system may introduce, like the Switch. I'm actually going to mod mine to put in a Seimitsu stick, once it arrives.
Really good video, thank-you. Now I'm even more confused. I've played shmups since the 80's but only recently became properly interested in the genre despite being hopelessly bad, and your YT channel has been great. Naturally I'm now wanting a stick (I play PC, PS4, and Switch) and was thinking about the Razer Panthera for PS4 on special atm for USD175 but I'd have to import it into South Africa. My local game store has a Hori RAP 4 Kai though, but it's a bit pricey in SA (about USD220) and I thought I'd prefer the Razers Senwa versus the Horis Hayabusa stick/buttons. Not planning on modding at this point. But after your video I'm slightly hesitant on the Razer. Probably a while until I get a PS5 or stick really, with whats going on in the world atm
I can play on sanwa's but my goto is Semitsu. The main thing for me is the lower shaft and throw engage. Sanwa's feel looser and travel too much which is a big problem for me in tight bullet weaving situations. You can learn to go very light on the stick to compensate and make your movements feel more rapid, but I don't like having to work around issues when a solution exists. Actually, even with the LS-32 I feel like my engage could be shorter. Either by making the actuator larger or even shortening the shaft. I heard the LS-56 is more like this but the spec sheets seem to say otherwise.
@@TheElectricUnderground Yeah I'm very curious about trying this. I tried once to add some electrician tape to the actuator. Bad idea! So is your mod a semi-official one like Koval actuator or is it totally DIY? Curious how you did it.
After trying the lot of button brands and models, the crown 202's are the best so far, I would recommend give a try ;) Fujin V3 and Sanjuks v6 are very awesome Korean sticks, but very very expensive, I was very curious about asi golden lever, but I never got the chance to try it...
Hi, i'm relatively new to fighters and sticks. I LOVED this video of yours, it's the best on the topic on youtube (and I watch I think over 30 in the last 3 days?) so - thank you. I'm in europe and finding a reasonably priced stick to enter this world is a mess. I would write a question in the comment section, but I think it would be too long and inappropriate... kinda? I wish I could ask you directly some advice, but if you tell me I can just comment below here, I can try. Thanks in advance in case you can try and answer
You bet! Go ahead and I can answer it here :-) If youtube gets mad about the comment being to long you can make a pastebin and I can read that as well :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground thank youuu! I already kinda came to a conclusion, but I always like an informed second opinion. long story long (lol) : i picked up tekken 7 with a friend recently, i'm really casual with fightign games, i barely played in the last 2 years and never before than. I play on pc and some times on switch. Right now i'm using the switch pro controller for fighters, but i don't fing myself too well with controller or keyboard, and I wanted to try stick. I picked up the mayflash f101 (40 euros) just to try it out, buying from amazon. I liked playing on a stick, but the thing bricked after 2 hours, trying to upgrade the firmware (the inputs would freeze for a second every now and again, and i thought it was a software problem. Updating it made it stop working entirely, doesn't even light up). Got another cheapo from amazon just to try the experience, i will return that as well due to various issue, but I can tell that i like stick, and I can get used to it (easier then keyboard for sure). This is the premise, here comes the problem: I'm in europe, so prices are kind of f'd up, and there is no point in buying anything used, as prices are often as high or higher then new, due to shipping or importation taxes. I've excluded mayflash since my experience and your video confirmed it. at first I thought about building a stick from scratch (i have experience in building things) but realized I would spend over 100 euros (110 to 130) so i thought: let me see what i can buy for that price: turns out i have 1 option basically: the Dragon Slay Universal Fight Stick, which apparently is a controversial product that was re-branded by mad catz as the EGO stick, and from another manufacturer as well. I could only find positive things about the stick, but too few information to think it's actually worth it. Still, 117 euros, full sanwa parts, pc switch ps4 and xbo compatibility, didn't sound too bad; until i thought about switching to a korean lever... Anyway. This option, 117, we'll say 120. For 115 there's also the mayflash f500 elite (excluded due to mayflash) and... that's it. The Qanba drone here costs 100 euros. Which is stupid. And the Hori Rap (whatever version) goes for no less than 150 new or 130 second hand on ebay. My conclusion was: if the Dragon Slay is worth it, it's the only thing that's worth it. But i don't know! Do you know anything about this stick? I still think I won't get it... But I'd like to hear an opinion. (anything else I haven't mentioned is above 150 or above 200 even) I truly wanted something working on pc AND switch. So for now, I decided to try the Hori Fight Commander gamepad, which is 38 euros, and goes on the switch, and should have a better D-pad than the switch pro controller botth for switch AND pc. The idea is I will slowly start building the case for a stick and buy parts as i go. I thought about getting a crown stick, which is probably the most convenient thing thinking about tekken7 as a main or top-2 fighting game i would want to play. I still have a few concerns. I don't think I will attend any events anytime soon, mainly because of the pandemic, but also because of other factors. But eventually I would want to go to some local event. What platforms are used in live events and tournaments? How should I approach the compatibility factor? I really wouldn't want to spend too much on a PCB (I was looking into the brooks zero-PI for starters: it's cheap, solid, works on pc and switch - is it good? wrong?) Also I have no idea about buttons but this is the least important problem. Lastly, If you have any website, page, article, thread, anything to help someone on their first custom build, it would be great. I figured out what i need to get and how i need to put it together, but it's easy to miss out on something when you're new to it. Thank you. I really appreciate you reading through this mess.
So the stick and buttons are solid sanwa components, so that's good. But I suspect the internals are crazy and weird. Do you mind opening it up and taking a picture of the internals?
I actually own this exact stick and can say that it's alright but not amazing. What is rather nice about it is that it's an absolute breeze to mod it or replace parts if you want to increase the quality. That's what I did to it, just used it stock and then upgraded the parts and got some cool art for it later on. After upgrading over the few years I've had it my only remaining issue is that the case isn't quite as wide as I might like. If you do end up keeping it and want to get some higher quality parts or get art/plexi etching done focus-attack's website is a great place to do that. EDIT: I guess I should mention that the universal-ness of the PCB is pretty nice, I basically just use it for PC but if you play on multiple consoles that might be an important factor for you since not all sticks come with universal PCBs by default.
@@TheElectricUnderground not op but I do have a picture of the internals from when I installed a new plexi and art and had to take the joystick out. It's not as super convenient as some of the pricier ones but I didn't think it was that hard to work with, but then again maybe I just don't know what I'm missing out on with other brands. Only other stick experience I have is I built a custom one for my lil bro using an allFightSticks enclosure that was pretty fun. tycorbinian(.)xyz/2DjdUfZB(.) jpg
I have a standard f500 and, unlike the f300, it is a BREEZE to mod. My Seimitsu stick connected via the little 5 or 6 pin micro-ribbon connector, did not require a mounting plate adaptor at all and works flawlessly. The f300 was not mod-friendly, but the f500s ARE. My girlfriend has a more expensive Qanba Crystal (I know: she liked the pretty lights), and not only does the stick make a horrendous squeaking noise from the dust cover, but it has trouble connecting to even a PC without throwing tons of errors in Mame, Retroarch and anything other than a game that specifically supports it. The Mayflash, however, is supported on virtually every platform known to God and man - and flawlessly - heck, it even has a headphone jack which the Qanba does not. We bought my GF's brother an f500 elite for Christmas and he loves it. You have a great stick. The only thing that would make it easier to mod would be if the guts were accessible via a quick flip switch - as it is, you have to take some screws out: like the majority of sticks.
What’s the best model Seimitsu stick for a May flash or Any other case? There is a ton of different models of Seimitsu’s. Money isn’t really an object but what’s the best or is there a difference? Thanks
Can you do a lag test of the Mayflash F300 again with the latest firmware? According to their website, they released an update on April 23, 2021 with the description "V1.23: Lowest 1-2ms input lag for all platforms"
I would but I don't have one unfortunately. One thing I will say though is beware their numbers, because they have lied before. I bought a xbox to ps2 controller converter in the past that was described as "1ms." Turned out it added a whole frame of lag :-(
I'm kind of surprised that you seemed to lump all of the 360 Hori RAPs under the same umbrella at the end. I won't pretend to be an expert, but my understanding is that there are some significant differences between all the variants of 360-based RAPs. I would assume the RAP VX-SE Kai with the built-in Seimitsu components and revised layout to be a much better product for shmups out of the box than the default RAP VX-SA with the Sanwa lever, for example. To say nothing of the EX variants. I get that you're recommending using custom parts anyway, but I think that would be worth mentioning. Unless you were planning on talking about that in the next video, in which case forget I said anything!
I actually was not aware of the SE variation! But yes the main point is to buy the older sticks as a solid foundation at a low price and then start swapping in custom parts :-D The next video will be about swapping in levers and talking about levers. :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground Ah, okay. Yeah, the VX-SE is a rare one, as far as I know. But some people (myself included) aren't very motivated or confident in their abilities to swap out custom parts by themselves, so specific variants like the EX-SE or VX-SE can be very attractive. Was a good video, btw. Informative and you nailed the basics. Looking forward to the next one! :)
I just got myself a Hori Rap4 Pro. I’m brand new to Tekken so Tekken 8 is my first. This is my first fight stick, I’ve been wanting to try them out for so long. Would you be able to make a tutorial video on how to install the recommended brook fighting board? I’ve watched videos on how to install buttons and levers but I cannot find one on installing the brook board
Hey! Do you have an opinion on the 8bitdo arcade stick for switch/windows? I seach for a new arcade stick, but for both, switch and pc. Most of the reviews are very good, but sadly they don't talk about input lag.
Nice video . Can you recommend some good boxes that can be use with a Korean lever , ? Or any custom made sites ? I would like one enclosure that can be able to hold both Japanese and Korean lever
No one ever seems to talk about this (probably because it's assumed knowledge), but what is the actual functional purpose of microswitches other than to make a clicking sound? Also, I have a button that keeps getting stuck. What usually causes that and is it fixable without replacing the button?
@@TheElectricUnderground Ok, thanks. What about sticks that don't make clicking sounds? Do those have silent microswitches or do they use another method for creating inputs?
oh.... So it's more comfortable to play with Korean stick shmups ?? I'm curious .... One f my friend let me play with a Korean joystick fro 1 week : It was a "so so" reaction in the end. But maybe you need months in order to get it "right" with a Korean stick ???
@The Electric Underground by the way, do u know how to stretch the PS4 Ketsui tate mode wider?....for me it is never wide enough to fit my screen..seems to b locked.....mayb I'm missing something in the settings, but I did check translations....by the way again....I wonder why M2 didn't upgrade the graphics....OMG Futari on xbox 360 looks amazing....
You're going to hate me for this and that's fine 🤣 but I just have to ask. What's the price for you to build the ultimate arcade stick and just strait up ship it to me lol. Don't be shy. If it's 600 just say it's 600. I'm a little handicapped when it comes to wires and losing screws and what not. You seem to have the knowledge and the power. Side note I didn't realize you had kid(s) man!
I have good news for you, I am going to cover that very topic in the video series :-D working with wires is super easy once you know what to do and I 'll show you all my solderless techniques :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground alright mr hard to get lol I'll play your game. The thing is I have never used any arcade stick to play a shmup besides the few times I have actually played one at the arcade so I have no idea what all of these different types even feel like. But I'm down to listen and learn ! Thanks again Mark!
@@TheElectricUnderground Hell yes! I have had similar thoughts as Jak3, lol, but I am sure you are going to make this easy for us. I already swapped my Hori stick and buttons for a Seimitsu stick and Sanwa buttons, major upgrade imo, and it wasn't bad at all, but I want to replace the board at some point and get some retro compatibility going as well. Idk if u still see comments on this video, but did u ever get the chance to compare the fanta high neck lever and low neck lever? I was planning to mod by qanba q1w with a fante lever and I will probably require the new version since it is a japanese stick
Would you recommend a last gen stick now? the current PS5 Sticks feel overpriced/cheaper construction compared to ps4 enclosures, like the Panthera and Mad Catz TE2+ etc.
I upgraded a F300 with an LS-56 and short throw mod. Aside from the gratification of making it work it wasn’t really worth it. The cheap plastic feel of the case ruins it for me. I’m skittish about the F500 but everyone says it’s better.
@@TheElectricUnderground cool so should I get one with ez mod ? Or it's easy to install without ez mod kit ? I have ps3 fightstick pro... bundle cost is 115 dollar plus shipping.... is there any way to save some money? What should I do ?
Can you guys recommend me a 'Best Quality Arcade Stick at the Lowest Price' for Xbox Series X? I wanna use it to play the following games 1) super street fighter 2 turbo hd remix 2) marvel vs capcom infinite 3) mortal kombat 10 thank you so much
I d say get an older hori stick like in the guide and then install the brooks universal board in it. Or you could try the new hori alpha for $200, that will work on the series x out of the box :-)

The compatibility part didn't age well cause brook isn't a licensed ps board And brook literally made a ps5 board to bypass Sony 's controller restrictions. This video is only meant for what parts you need and not the compatibility Buy a used licensed ps4 hori or qanba stick .

Guys, can someone point me to the name of game that plays in the background? I bet it's something super-well-known, but it completely eludes me... Cheers!
Ooh thanks a lot guys! Love the design, always on the lookout for shmups featuring warbirds of sorts. Also for me it's rare to see a horizontal scroller from Cave. What a keeper.
Bro I got the real big controller enjoys think I wish I could see a picture of it it's the rap premium vewlix hori made by taito it's the real big one man the nice one is all black that they cost me like $300🕹🎮😀👍🏾
oh wait OIC what you are sayin' !!!!!! ... .. Nononono I don't even HAVE a new console in fact I just assembled a new PC myself custom. Do you have a "JUST" USB stick you don't care for, man?
IF YOU SAY the "HORi" stix have COMMON parts though? And WHO do we play with who is it it's Japan! Yes! Hahahahaha. So? ..... Yes I would say I want the JAP connectors on the PCB. Solder-less and ready for competition - - - YES , Please.

Razer sticks are garbage. I bought a PS4 Razer Panthera Evo and it doesn't work on PS4 anymore for no good reason. I use it on PC after swapping out buttons, but it was an annoying and expensive mistake.
i had a three frame lag between seeing this video in my feed and clicking onto it
Ha three lags is acceptable ;-D Seriously though, thanks for tuning in!
Man. I have been waiting so patiently for this video. Thank You!
:-D I hope it delivers for you ha. It was meant to be a 15 min vid, but I couldn't contain the arcade stick talk ha.
Can t go wrong with hori! At least so far :-)
I just go all out lol. The cheapest stock I have is a Hori Rap 4. That was my fist stick back in 2015.
I have the DIY skills of a corpse. This video has got me dangerously close to buying some bits and burning my house down
oh no ha, be careful with your soldering iron!
I picked up an old Saturn HSS-0136 which had a Seimitsu LS-56 in it.
Liked it, tried a short throw mod with an octogate and really liked it.
I need a stick for my other consoles now - thanks for the tips, looks like a used HRAP is the way to go.
I love the short throw as well!
I bought a PS4 Hori stick a year back (it was the rare PS4-149 one that was asia only) because luckily PS4 sticks have PS5 backwards compatibility. Used is the way to go if you want to get into sticks for affordability especially if you play on just PC.
No joke, today is my birthday and I am honored to be affiliated with such a fantastic resourse. Can't wait for part 2!
Happy birthday!!! 🎂
Have been playing around with the stock JLF for over a month (while waiting for mods to arrive ha!)
At stock it was always too soft with too long a throw for my liking..
Mods arrived..
2lb spring
Kowal 1mm oversized actuator
Battop
Now it feels tight and very precise thanks to the 2lb spring and Kowal actuator, which shortened the throw.
Awesome comment my dude!!
LINK THIS LEVER PLEASE. I've tried so hard to figure out which one it is, but haven't had confirmation. Is it a crown of some kind?
@@TheElectricUnderground Of course!

Super hard to find right now.
I am glad to hear it! Here s to hoping Sony isn t too greedy ha
The stock Hori Wii stick is going to be my pick for PC with a Raphnet converter. It's simple and no-nonsense, even if I don't really use turbo. I use a ball, but my dad prefers the bat to account for the analog body he threw it on.
Thanks man. Exactly what I was after.
Your passion and knowledge on the subject matter is amazing, seriously. Have you ever considered building your own stick brand?
That would be pretty cool!
That's really cool! Yes I like how easy they are to mod.
I actually love the Mayflash f500 stick, I've nearly 1cc'd dodonpachi resurrection on it.
That stick drives me crazy with it s misleading marketing, but I have an on and off relationship with mayflash products ha
the brook pi board is pretty damn good in terms of lag and costs around $25 (it just doesn't do every console though it does the top 4/5).
@@TheElectricUnderground aww damn, fo sho.
This video should have more views. it was great, thanks!
Hey thanks so much for checking it out and the awesome comment!
Very useful video Mark! I bought at the end of 2018 a Mayflash Elite modding It with a LS-32. Great lever but the board eventually killed my experience with It, so i am playing with d-pad now. What makes me stop with giving another try is the incoming PS5 but if the Brooks board will be surely compatible via firmware I will reconsider my decisions 😅
yes we'll have to wait to see, I really hope brooks add the ability to connect to PS5 for sure.
Not a fan of Smash then obviously😂
But let me tell you, between me and my nine-year-old son, our Smash rivalry is just as brutal and bloody as any other fighting game😂
Pro controller works just as well at a larger size.
Great info! I think the raps are extra sweet for shmups with the start/options button on the top. you don't have to reach to the front of the case to start your credit.
for sure! I love the arcade style start button personally.
We are looking forward to Part 2

@Jagger Nolan Flixportal :P
@Lincoln Yousef thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I really appreciate it !
@Jagger Nolan No problem :D
Oh man now i really want to find a Myoungshin with gersung! Let me know if you have any leads.

Custom cases are expensive, and the price has scared me away from going that route for now.
yeah I know, what the hell?! They need to figure out the genesis connectivity.
have you ever experienced some lag with the f500 elite... ?... im start to think in buy it... thanks!
@@Dreamerpunk I don't believe there's been any lag, other than what each system may introduce, like the Switch. I'm actually going to mod mine to put in a Seimitsu stick, once it arrives.
@@GameBoyGuru thanks!!!..
Glad my vid has been helpful!
The latest firmware of mayflash increases USB poll rate from 250Hz to 1000Hz so that's at least a 3ms reduction
Nice!
I actually do a slight mod on my actuator to make it wider for a shorter throw :-) It's a tiny adjustment but I think it can help the overall feel.
@@TheElectricUnderground Yeah I'm very curious about trying this. I tried once to add some electrician tape to the actuator. Bad idea! So is your mod a semi-official one like Koval actuator or is it totally DIY? Curious how you did it.
Dang these Hori raps seem to have gone up in price a bit. Not seeing any for less than $130 after shipping right now
Oh dang :-( hope they drop again soon
After trying the lot of button brands and models, the crown 202's are the best so far, I would recommend give a try ;)
Fujin V3 and Sanjuks v6 are very awesome Korean sticks, but very very expensive, I was very curious about asi golden lever, but I never got the chance to try it...
Yes me too! Yeah I want to try the golden lever
I already kinda came to a conclusion, but I always like an informed second opinion. long story long (lol) :
i picked up tekken 7 with a friend recently, i'm really casual with fightign games, i barely played in the last 2 years and never before than.
This is the premise, here comes the problem:
I'm in europe, so prices are kind of f'd up, and there is no point in buying anything used, as prices are often as high or higher then new, due to shipping or importation taxes.
(anything else I haven't mentioned is above 150 or above 200 even)
I truly wanted something working on pc AND switch.
I really wouldn't want to spend too much on a PCB (I was looking into the brooks zero-PI for starters: it's cheap, solid, works on pc and switch - is it good? wrong?)
Also I have no idea about buttons but this is the least important problem.
Lastly, If you have any website, page, article, thread, anything to help someone on their first custom build, it would be great. I figured out what i need to get and how i need to put it together, but it's easy to miss out on something when you're new to it.
Thank you. I really appreciate you reading through this mess.
@@TheElectricUnderground did I write to much? lol
Just give it to me straight. I bough a mayflash f500 elite. Did I waste my money?
Let me take a look, I ve never heard of it. I 'll so me research real quick
Thanks
I really like the Ls 32, but I'm not sure which is the best overall. It's hard to really know since there are so many ha.
Great video
Can you do a lag test of the Mayflash F300 again with the latest firmware? According to their website, they released an update on April 23, 2021 with the description "V1.23: Lowest 1-2ms input lag for all platforms"
I would but I don't have one unfortunately. One thing I will say though is beware their numbers, because they have lied before. I bought a xbox to ps2 controller converter in the past that was described as "1ms." Turned out it added a whole frame of lag :-(
I've got a Qanba Drone and a Qanba Dragon :)
The irony in the end: licenced Ps4 sticks work on Ps5 native fighting games for instance, but the Brook UFB does not... unfortunately.
That s a shame, hopefully a firmware update will fix it
@@TheElectricUnderground There's going to be an add-on for the UFB for PS5 compatibility.
Hey! Do you have an opinion on the 8bitdo arcade stick for switch/windows? I seach for a new arcade stick, but for both, switch and pc. Most of the reviews are very good, but sadly they don't talk about input lag.
I d say proceed with caution. I don t have their arcade stick but I did buy their snes pad a while back and it was a laggy boy
The micro switches are what create the inputs. And you can open the button and clean it out
@@TheElectricUnderground Ok, thanks. What about sticks that don't make clicking sounds? Do those have silent microswitches or do they use another method for creating inputs?
what tension you use on your fanta lever?
Wait what? 4:23 Your children? You a father? And a shmup lord??!? How!?
Yep I'm a shmup dad, though a young one :-)
Beware....Welcome to :"the House of 1000 lever's".....
oh.... So it's more comfortable to play with Korean stick shmups ?? I'm curious ....
One f my friend let me play with a Korean joystick fro 1 week : It was a "so so" reaction in the end. But maybe you need months in order to get it "right" with a Korean stick ???
Mr Miyagi sir, do you have an opinion on the Etokki Omni Korean stick?...seems like it has the perfect formula for you?
I accidentally have never tried one, but I want to someday!! I do really Iike that it supports full collar sticks
Please teach us how to drill 24mm holes, etc.!
@@jqr8049 Dude I'm scared to drill anything but I hear you lol
Idk if u still see comments on this video, but did u ever get the chance to compare the fanta high neck lever and low neck lever? I was planning to mod by qanba q1w with a fante lever and I will probably require the new version since it is a japanese stick
Which stick would you recommend for someone who's entirely uninterested in modifying it in any way, replacing the stick included?
(mainly for shmups)
Any stick you can find that has a siemitsu ls 32 :-)
great video, What is the board name at 5:54?
the brooks universal board :-)
Would you recommend a last gen stick now? the current PS5 Sticks feel overpriced/cheaper construction compared to ps4 enclosures, like the Panthera and Mad Catz TE2+ etc.
I upgraded a F300 with an LS-56 and short throw mod. Aside from the gratification of making it work it wasn’t really worth it. The cheap plastic feel of the case ruins it for me. I’m skittish about the F500 but everyone says it’s better.
Should I get new stick aur change my pcb with brook pcb? Which stick have less input lag on PC?
Brooks board has extremely low lag, that would be my recommendation :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground cool so should I get one with ez mod ? Or it's easy to install without ez mod kit ? I have ps3 fightstick pro... bundle cost is 115 dollar plus shipping.... is there any way to save some money? What should I do ?
@@TheElectricUnderground How does the Hori VX-SA compare to the Brooks UFB pcb?
Can you guys recommend me a 'Best Quality Arcade Stick at the Lowest Price' for Xbox Series X? I wanna use it to play the following games
1) super street fighter 2 turbo hd remix
2) marvel vs capcom infinite
3) mortal kombat 10
thank you so much
I d say get an older hori stick like in the guide and then install the brooks universal board in it. Or you could try the new hori alpha for $200, that will work on the series x out of the box :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground usd200 is kinda steep considering that i live in New Zealand (at the bottom of the world)....can you recommend affordable yet durable brands that are built with quality materials (Sanwa/Hayabusa parts)? thanks my friend. kisses, xx
I made the mistake with the mayflash 😮💨
how do i change the sensitivity on my arcade stick?
industrias lorenzo gets forgotten again. 😢
what is the best arcade stick for the switch with price being no factor at all? i liked the sf2 stick by hori.
The hori stick, it has the fastest response time :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground the real arcade pro or the sf2 version?
@@TheElectricUnderground there are 4 hori sticks i'm looking for switch. The Ryu or chun li edition (red and blue), the first simple red one and the Street fighter 2 stick. Wich should i take, any internal differences or response time?

If someone ever See their product Red circled Out they NEED to make better lol. Man Theres no advertise making good a "dont get it passionite"
Square or circle gate?
Square,though I play on a rounded square gate :-)
@@TheElectricUnderground just dug up a seimitsu lever I had in my closet. Going to install it and try it for shmups. Though I def prefer the sanwa for fighters
The compatibility part didn't age well cause brook isn't a licensed ps board
And brook literally made a ps5 board to bypass Sony 's controller restrictions.
This video is only meant for what parts you need and not the compatibility
Buy a used licensed ps4 hori or qanba stick .
Cool video but tekken and bat top have no connection.

Razer sticks are garbage. I bought a PS4 Razer Panthera Evo and it doesn't work on PS4 anymore for no good reason. I use it on PC after swapping out buttons, but it was an annoying and expensive mistake.
Yeah remember when a bunch of them died at evo a few years back during street fighter?
Razer products in general have always been hot garbage.
