This is the right video you are looking for!!!!! I've done this 4 times and have fixed 4 controllers. Works first try and works 100% every time! Thank you, saved me $$$$.
I was dealing with an annoying drift problem on the left analog stick of my controller, which was only getting worse gradually. I decided to open the controller to see if I could fix it and ended up accidentally almost breaking the blue box of the analog stick, as well as bending the small piece of metal inside. I closed the controller thinking that I had messed everything up, but surprisingly, the controller started working normally again. I dont know wtf i did, but it worked. I plan to replace the entire analog part or buy a new controller, as this is the second time I've had drift problems with this same controller. Thanks for the video man!
Thank you! Tried so many remedies, but to no avail. Figured a teardown was my last option, and it sure was. The funny thing is, I actually saw the smallest piece of dirt or whatever inside the potentiometer. Crazy how that little speck of dirt is all it takes.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I FIXED IT BECAUSE OF THE FIRST METHOD!!! Unfortunately one of the wires came loose and disconnected and that's the sq5 wire which I think is the rumble motor wire but the controller works fine. Edit: you earned yourself a subscriber!
@@JimsTechNonsense I’m not really a repair guy, but this video helped a lot. I’m glad I didn’t have to get to the part where you soldered stuff because I don’t have those tools
Thanks a lot man Helped me fix my stick drift but I had the same issue as the red one so it doesn't go down all the way I can't do much more than cleaning and it's still better than having drift 😂
@@lethisyt9306 I have used an anti-seize spray like white lub super on my analog circuit. The rubbers inside it were grabbing and causing the drifting. I have applied 5 times and drying below the excess. It's EVEN BETTER then when it arrived! 🤣
Do you know if there are replacement parts for just the little black piece of the joystick potentiometer. Seems to have been a short circuit at some point and the little wires inside look like they’ve oxidized to being weirdly purple... I can’t solder in my apartment, so trying to find a solution to a problem that was a solution to another problem....
Everyone complaining about how quickly these fail. Microsoft do a really good no quibble return. Just get a Microsoft account, register the serial number of the controller, then if its under warranty follow the instructions. Takes about 10 days in the UK. You will get what looks like a brand new controller back, just in plain packaging. Save that packaging for the next time 😊
Hello both of my series x controllers are drifting. When I push up it goes all the way up the menu and when I push down it goes all the way down. Is it a simple fix?
Hi just got this controller and, right trigger has a 3mm. dead zone, can it be fixed or just return the controller?, i tried updating firmware and it helped a bit, and now it's 2mm. Also I hear a weird noise in the Xbox button area (when controller is on), but only when I bring the controller really close to my ear, is that sound normal? I hope you respond soon!
I opened the green plastic thing replaced the metal little part now it won't close the green plastic part because i butchered the top tryna get it open i fixed it as well the drift when i hold the green thing it works fine
I've seen other videos that indicate that swapping the joystick/potentiometer isn't as straightforward as you make it seem since there is some sort of calibration burned into the controller itself. Is this something that you have seen as well with these controllers?
I've had that happen and if the contacts are clean and it's still not working it's unfortunately a failed motherboard and the only option is replacement
Can you replace the potentiometers with a higher quality one? For example replace the current with RKJX21224001 from Alps Alpine. This is a more durable potentiometer and I think an opportunity to create a higher quality controller. My hesitation is that I don’t know enough to say you can just interchange potentiometers. Would love to hear your thoughts
You can, yes. But be warned: desoldering without a desoldering gun or an electric desoldering-only iron & pump combo can be tedious and time consuming at best and irreparable at worst.
One trip to home depot to get that t6 and I was set my remote works great everyone else on TH-cam covering this topic are bsing good video def coming back here if I ever have another problem with my remote 🫡👍🏾
Some basic functions are repairable but scuf will not sell individual parts. They prefer that you send your controller into them for repairs and upgrades.
@@JimsTechNonsense wait i tried to do it like another 4 times and then i stopped beilieving it will work again and then i assemble it back and it is working, im so happy :D
The xbox series controllers are such garbage. Ive been a gamer since atari, and these controllers and this generation are the first time I've seen "stick drift" become a universally recognized term. Ive been gaming on xboxes since the first gen with uncountable hours of personal gameplay logged for each generation of console. Never had an issue. I bought my nephew a series console and I've had to replace his controller twice in the past year. Considering these pieces of crap are $70, I have to wonder wtf is goin on. Is this planned hardware failure to increase profits? If it werent, Microsoft would have fixed the faulty part in the supply chain by now.
so i changed the whole motherboard with the joysticks on with a new one. now my controller wont cont to my xbox just on my pc via bluetooth is there any fix for me?
@@JimsTechNonsense i did yes. you think i might didnt connect them well? is it ok if u replace the whole motherboard with a different one? or its compatibility issue?
@JimsTechNonsense I ended up getting it on. Now the stick drift is worse than before. Idk if I put the potentiometer back in wrong? I can't tell which was supposed to be up. But it's now staying straight up after hooking it up to gamepad tester. Ugh

They are extremely sensitive. Glad you got it fixed!

2 less controllers in the landfill! Glad it helped.

dude your video was the best video about fixing xbox series x controller i ever have watched, great job.
Great video, shows exactly what needs to be done for the novice repairer. 👍
Fixed my favourite Shock Blue controller using this!
This is so simple and effective if you have the tools. Worked for me 100%. Thanks man.
After going through tens of crap videos i found this❤ this video is a life saviour, you rock. Subbed
Actually the best video on how to fix those controller. You got a sub. Thanks, my man!
The only video that helped! Your a savior man 🤟🏼
Awesome! I'm glad it helped.
Broke my stick more. The right stick now is permanently drifted 50% in the Y direction and can't move back down no matter what.
I somehow fixed it wow, but that teal thing i had to pull back to get to the black disc thing underneath is super beat up and stripped
As long as it's working it's fine. It can be replaced in the future

W video just fixed my left stick, it was only going forward 70-80%
It’s missing up again🤦🏾♂️
Might be time to replace the potentiometer or whole analog stick.
Awesome and satisfying
Fuck yes!!! The first option worked!!! Easy, comprehensive tear down. Thanks man
Did you ever do a non-fast forward versions of the soldering? It's the only thing I haven't attempted yet.

I haven't bought just the insert but you can but the potentiometers and pop them out quite easily.
Thank you! If I may, what program are you running? You may have mentioned it.
Controller test app from Microsoft or gamepadtester.com if you don't want to download anything.

There's no adjustments for trigger dead zone unfortunately. I'm not sure about the noise
@@JimsTechNonsense Well, thanks anyway.
Well the drift is fixed, but now it doesn't register the LS going up when the top cover is on
Is the potentiometer installed upside down by chance? I've definitely done that before.

I haven't found that to be the case. Just use a quality replacement, I recommend alps brand, and you'll be fine.
Great video!

Should I let the wd40 dry for a long time? It makes me insecure to close it and it's still wet inside.
If it's the electronic specialist wd40 it will evaporate quickly
Any idea how to repair a select button that doesn’t work?
I've had that happen and if the contacts are clean and it's still not working it's unfortunately a failed motherboard and the only option is replacement
Where did you get the replacement part?
Ebay. Try to find alps brand thumbsticks or you can buy just the potentiometers there too.
the controller update is ass i even updated my black one still drifts so you need too open up the controller fix it
Tried all my screwdrivers couldn't turn that middle screw😞
Gotta make sure it's a security torx bit. 9 is best 8 will work in a pinch.
How do you get the white wires back on?
by soldering, which dude completelyleft out of the video
What is that app calles
Controller tester in the Microsoft store. Gamepadtester.com works well without any download as well.
wow i see so much dust inside drift stick is crazy!!!
i fixed it but now my axis 0 reads 100 percent left or right and only changes when sent that direction is detected... sneding it to the other side.
Sounds like a worn potentiometer. I'd recommend replacing it or the analog stick entirely.

Bro i brock that black small wire 😢
I broke the green part so it wont click in 😭
Time to grab a cheap soldering iron off amazon and learn a new skill!
What about the white wires
They need to be reconnected, but you can test the controller on pc via USB before doing so to be sure it's fixed.
Do you have to solder those back on?
Yeah, I'm bummed. It looked like they just snap back on, but I've been trying for 30 minutes. They don't want to stay.

Lets be honest. They don't make 'em like they used to.... and they charge more and hide behind lawyers. Not just here but everywhere.

On 6:14 after cleaning you can see that potentiometer holder are damaged, you need to change that, desolder and solder a new one.
I'm still using it without issue but when cleaning doesn't work I either replace the potentiometers or the whole analog stick.
hey can u fix my controlller i will pay u
