I hate that the dog is always the sacrifice. That dog could be a comfort to one or both the parents while they're going through this tough time. Why make the dog pay that price? So sad :(
@@lyndahull6587 Idk if it’s sacrificing the dog, it’s understanding that having a dog is a privilege and knowing that the dog deserves better than living in a car or on the steeets. Life happens and people need to help themselves first-
I think a lot of these reasons people give are lies. She might have nipped someone or they find out dogs are more work than they thought. People think it’s better if they have an excuse.
Daisy Mae looks so healthy! It appears her family did value her - which makes it even more sad they let her go. She has to be really feeling confused and hurt. I hope her nexr family goes for the long haul with her. Such a beautiful girl.
They really bond with their people that poor girl with be so confused. She's the only thing I'd want in that divorce because they're loyal, brave and just lovely. She's scared just now

Rocky is one of the few youtubers who, if I fall asleep while watching him, I don't have nightmares of him "talking so much I can't get a word in edgewise". This is a compliment; it's because he's so easy-natured and smooth to listen to. It's easy to see the dogs love it, too, and that it helps them relax.
Hi, Our black and tan Dobie girl was being offered free "to a good home". Her Mum and Dad were splitting up. She had a red male with her but we only wanted the female. I bonded with her & she happily got into the back seat, lay down with her front legs across mine & put her head on them. We were smitten. She didn't even whimper nor look out the window as we drove home. She fitted in immediately & after a sniff around the securely fenced yard, she squatted for a wee, licked her lips, had a raw turkey wing, water & relaxed on her new bedding. A beautiful relationship that lasted about 4 years. She got cancer and was humanely euthanized. We still miss her very, very much! 😢 Thank you for what you did with Daisy Mae! 🙏🥰 From Australia 🦘🦘🦘🦘
I’m a grown man. An adult blue collar man. And when you sang to her. I was all in my emotions. This beautiful girl will THRIVE with a good family. What a perfect girl.
I have been thinking about this for a few hours now. DaisyMay is 7 months old and she was given up because of divorce. The couple got a dog when their relationship was probably already failing... what were they thinking? Your channel is helping to spread the word that dogs are not disposable toys. They are long term responsibilities that should not be purchased without committing to 10-20 years of care.
I rarely cry when watching one of your episodes, but when you got on the 3rd round of, You are my Sunshine and you pulled her in and did the scoop and she just melted into you, that was it! Tears welled all up! You sing beautifully! It was really touching! Please please please dont listen to people who say you talk too much! This is YOUR channel, and you do it how YOU want to do it! The people who LOVE you and everything you stand for will be rooting you on!!
My dobie had started to get worked up by the barking in the background throughout the vid, but his ears perked up when the singing started. And when I started singing along, he just put his head on my hands and melted.
I know of people who fought over ditching a young boy - so his ex-stepmother (2nd relationship that a**hole Dad broke up) took him in because neither of his parents wanted him! Some People are &$#@! Our vet told us a woman came in wanting her dog put down because of move necessitated by divorce - weeks later (we just happened to be there with our dog then) her ex came in bawling because he had not given permission for his dog to be put down. Yes, I was shocked the vet had put down a healthy dog because owner was done with it. This was 20 years ago and still bothers me thinking about it. ❤
I just lost my 10 yr old Doberman Service Dog 3 weeks ago. There would’ve been nothing that would’ve ever made me give her up. I’ve had Dobermans all of my adult life, and they are the most loyal dogs with unbelievable intelligence. I hate that people think animals are disposable.
Patty- R.I.P. your beloved Dobe service dog. I had a red one. Only had her for 3 years and cancer took her. Terry was a special, intelligent, very beautiful dog. I had her cremated when she passed. I understand as much as I can, your loss. ❤
I stayed in an abusive relationship for too long, any moment is too long, because he would threaten to take away my dogs. Thank goodness I couldn't have children! Never stay for your pets, but I know how people feel when that's used. I cannot imagine a time when nobody wants the animals in a breakup.
Aea, you’re so right. Talking, tone , volume, gradually continually settles an animal. It also gives you something to do whilst you’re waiting for the dog to settle along with the other things that have been shown in this video. Thanks to everyone involved in the rescue care and rehoming of these precious animals.😊 Best wishes from UK

Hi Rocky. This Doberman girl is SENSITIVE. Female Doberman are highly motherly. Protective. Derpy as puppies 😂 Divorce causes casualties , especially children and our four legged children ❤
How can you even attempt to do your channel if you don't talk. Ignore the negative and embrace the good you do for these animals. Talk away Rocky talk away. The animals love you and so do we❤❤
Negative comments are not always bad because they can be learning experiences. Like Rocky said, they open up the conversation. Although that person could have been a little bit more delicate in their wording! Maybe ask in the form of a question rather than a statement.
I went through a divorce, and we had a male and female German Shepherd… and the first thing I said to my husband after we talked divorce was, who keeps the dogs ? , Because I want them, they are my babies. I kept them both, and he visited them from time to time and took them for walks. They are family, your 4 legged children, someone has to step up and keep them, love them and care for them. Their lives are so much shorter than ours, It may not be easy, but God willing, you make it work, because they are a Blessing, a gift! 🙏🏼❤️🐾 and yes Kelly should always go with you and … you should sing that song to every dog that needs that extra love. It was great 😃👍🏼!

Yes. I started singing to my little dog and tears came to my eyes as well. There's just something about looking into eyes that love you, unconditionally and with no pretense. Just loyalty love. ❤
See that's the crap I don't understand! I'm divorced twice in my lifetime and every single dog I took with me because I knew they'd be better off and better cared for! I love them all until they were elderly and passed on. I have never in my life rehomed a pet ever!!

I get so upset when I hear the ASPCA commercials on TV begging for money that I just have to mute the tv. Their CEO makes 1.2 million a year. Don't donate to them. If you want to help some animals donate to your local shelter.

Don't know what to do now. Should I cancel my ASPCA monthly donation & donate the money to Rocky Kanaka's organization? PLEASE DO SHARE WITH ME. I guess I must be ignorant. 😢
Really can’t fathom giving up your dog because you split with the co- pet parent. Isn’t that double loss? Never mind totally irresponsible and heartless.
Maybe, the person was being nasty , to spouse , who is divorcing? Male or female, to be mean. It sounds like the male turned her in. Daisy Mae.The woman named her. My ex, wanted to keep my YARN...when we divorced. I loved my crafts. Anything to be mean.
I don't condone it either. But, it could have been a domestic abuse situation where one was the abuser, didn't care to keep the dog, and the other had to flee and doesn't have proper shelter or funds😞
There are so many reasons why you would do it even if it breaks your heart and hers (the dog’s). 1) The building you’re moving in does not allow pets, and you don’t have time and money to look for one that does. 2) Once you pay alimony you haven’t much to go by, so you hope that she’ll find a better home. 3) you’re back to square one, living with your parents, and they have already their own pets: you go by their rules. 4) to be able to survive a divorce, you’ve got to change state, sleep on a friend’s couch. 5) you leave the dog behind when you change state, but you always have in mind to take the dog back when things are better for you; It’s gonna be some time before you get your own place. A friend stepped up to the plate and promised to take good care of her, but the situation has been lingering for some time, the friend can’t anymore, and he/she turns her in (betrayal, but taking care of a dog might be quite expensive, and the friend might feel h/she’s being exploited). As you see, everything is tied to your new tsunami life post-divorce. And to be true we may have no clear idea why this beautiful young lady ended up in a shelter. Poor soul. ❤
The separating couple must have been in an impossible situation. This is an expensive dog, clearly well cared for and good natured. Maybe they assumed a new (better) home would adopt her fast, which is probably accurate.
There is a reason you sang that song. Today would of been my Son’s 42 birthday. He passed in 2021. That was and is my song for him. You are my Son Shine. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🏼Thank you for being you.
My lab would lay out in the sun about 10 minutes almost every day, then come in and smell funny, but I told him he smelled like sunshine ("yum!") & sing that song.🌞
Really!? You talk too much!? We understand what and why you do it.❤ That was an ignorant comment. Do not change who you are. I know Kelly won’t agree 😉 but you’re perfect. Love what you do!!🐶❤❤
Friends divorced several years ago. They had a yellow lab named Tapps. The wife couldn’t have cared less but the husband came to us because he knew we would help. We already had 4 dogs but we acclimated them with Tapps to blend in to our pack. It was an excellent fit. These people didn’t even try🤬. Am I judgy…yes!!! There is always a solution!!!
Why did they even get her if they didn't really want her in the first place? Neither one wanting her after the divorce speaks volumes about them. As for your friend, good on him! And thanks to you for taking Tapps in.
Agree with you. I get they can’t keep the dog, they are adults and responsible. It takes awhile to get divorced, why didn’t they try to find another home for their home. Her homes suck!
I wonder if this was a domestic abuse situation. A person leaving that kind of situation, with kids, just wouldn't have the resources to also care for a dog.

My sister-in-law split from her partner. She took the dog that he inherited from his aunt ( he didn't want😢 it). Because she had to travel her mum ended up with the dog. It was verry funny to watch a retired sheepdog thrying to herd grandchildren in the garden. And cry when they climed the trees.😂 🇮🇪
Rocky, you definitely need to sing more. Your voice is so comforting and kind and creates a soothing sound world in a loud jarring environment. And from a musical standpoint, your pitch is excellent, you make wonderful, interesting melodic variations with each repetition, and the timbre of your voice is quite appealing. When in doubt, sing! (You are my sunshine is the perfect choice.)
@@d.p.9343 I think it's pretty telling. I can understand that one partner might have been in a situation that made them unable to keep the dog but... both? And you are responsible for a life. Find the dog a place to live. I appreciate there are sometimes circumstances that lead people to surrendering dogs to pounds... but nowhere near as many as the dogs that find themselves there .
I think your voice and chatter have a calming effect on the dogs. A viewer can always mute you and read the bylines. I like your voice and your give-and-take with your wife and helpers.
I agree, definitely relaxes the environment, and making the dogs comfortable and feeling safe is the entire point! Besides, as someone who has rescued every dog I've had, it's helpful info for adopters, because once a dog is thrust into an entire new environment, new humans, other animals etc they can regress into that fear state for a bit, and knowing how to calm them and help them transition would save a hell of a lot of time, stress and potential fear biting!
Nothing better than convincing a dog to trust you. I was babysitting for a friend. Two dogs and two cats. One small mix who was super friendly, no problem. The cats were super friendly, no problem. Then there was the 100+ lb cane corso. We were pretty much both terrified of each other. Her glowing eyes in the darkness and giant bark were spooky. My friend insisted it would be fine and she wouldn't attack, and he was telling the truth. She mostly just hid in her crate or otherwise ran away. It took me two days to make a breakthrough, but by the end of my time there the dog was begging for attention, letting me take her for walks, and plopping her massive head on my lap. It was a pretty magical experience.
The commenters that want to rush through earning a dog's trust are missing the whole point. Love what you do, Rocky and I hop you keep saving these animals.
Daisy Mae is so beautiful. Thank you for showing her she is worthy of being loved no matter the circumstance. She deserves a forever home that really is forever!!
Hey Rocky. You don't talk TOO much. Anyone with any intellect would know exactly why you are talking through the video. Anybody else could due well to try and recognize when they are learning something instead of hating on you. Maybe they feel like they were entitled to make someone they gave money to feel some kind of way. People are funny that way, you know. I hope you don't ever stop talking and helping these dogs with your smooth, comforting voice. And you sing just wonderfully. You don't have to be note perfect to sing to make a dog or yourself feel good. It obviously comforts the dogs. Who cares what the people watching think about it. Thank you for all you do and all the songs you sing. Love, peace, and happiness. 😊😊❤❤

I hate that the dog is always the sacrifice. That dog could be a comfort to one or both the parents while they're going through this tough time. Why make the dog pay that price? So sad :(

It's not a TV show, either. Rocky, you DON'T talk too much! IT IS JUST RIGHT!!! KEEP UP THE TALKING. I'M NOT A DOG, & I CAN FALL ASLEEP TO YOUR CALM, EVEN-TONED VOICE. It's not excited, it's not stressful, it's just a calming sounding voice!!
Remember, the sound is filtered to screen out the constant barking in the kennel. So, in a sense, the sound is artificially calm.

Yes. I could have used those services many times in my life. A nice conversation and some gentle touches… 👍

@@LeannaRuthJensen some people think having a baby will ‘fix’ a failing relationship. Can’t hand those in to the pound.
Very well said! Once you have a pet you should never think you can return it any more than one can return a baby.
She was probably an "I'm sorry" present. Never give living creatures for being sorry or trying to make up 😢
The fact that they got a "dangerous" or "prohibited" breed that will have trouble getting into living places where pets are otherwise allowed.
Pets like human babies are for life. Assume they are going to live for anything between 10 -20 years, they are part of the family!

Hi Rocky.
This Doberman girl is SENSITIVE. Female Doberman are highly motherly. Protective. Derpy as puppies 😂

How can you even attempt to do your channel if you don't talk. Ignore the negative and embrace the good you do for these animals. Talk away Rocky talk away. The animals love you and so do we❤❤
Rocky, I agree with Mary. But, I do suggest that you sing more, too.

It's no doubt a money problem. It costs so much to own a pet these days. God forbid that pet gets sick. Vet bills are unbelievable 😮
Poor soul. ❤

Dobermans don’t like to be away from their owners. They get anxious being away from their owner
Not all dobies suffer separation anxiety but it's down to the owner to teach them your coming back 😢
Rocky singing to Daisy Mae was the sweetest moment ever 😭❤️
What a sweet girl. I hope someone gives her a forever home where she can blossom.
Gosh this girl is gorgeous! Rocky, you do NOT talk too much! You have a wonderfully kind, loving energy about you and your voice is quite soothing so as far as I'm concerned, talk, talk, talk away because who you are and what you do make the rest of us feel SOOOOOO good, so talk, talk and talk some more! lol ❤
I could never give up my babies. You wouldn't give your children.
Usually places to live don't have a "no children" or "prohibited breeds of children" list.
Right. My dog is my child!
