I actually did this because I was living in an apartment building in a high theft area. Last saw bike on a Friday afternoon, noticed it was missing Saturday night, and it was recovered Sunday morning by the police. I'm not gonna chase forbthe bike myself
Cons: I didn't get a notification on my phone when the bike left the geofence area around my building, or maybe I ignored it. The reliance on iPhone for tracking may be a con, but not in the us where they are pretty common.
Pros: cheaper and easier to install than gps solutions. Small size makes it easy to hide. High likelihood that the thief will be giving away their position.
Note: do not enable lost mode until the police are in the area to prevent notifying the thief that they're being tracked.

I thought the notification if something was following you only appeared if the AirTag went with you to your home. Also think about people riding public transportation, there could be 20 AirTags on the same bus with you. I don’t know exactly what circumstances it takes to receive the notification. Nonetheless, I hide two on my bike in separate locations. My thinking is if a thief gets notified they’re being tracked, they’ll start looking. When they find one, they’ll destroy it but another one will still be there.

Don’t you think the thief will just get 2 notifications? 2 AirTags sending separate notifications. I mean using this device to track stolen items is pointless. Once the thief get his convenient notification they will find the AirTag destroy it or simply pull the battery and keep your stuff. And if they want I think they can even reset the AirTag by installing the battery 5 times to reset it and then use it themselves. Cool. Thanks for the bike and an AirTag. Silly device.

I was looking online and I found some really interesting anti theft devices for motorcycles. Some have gps,a camera, and a engine kill button available in the app that is included. I am not sure how great it would be to have to wire it up on your bike. The air tag would probably be decent to use, but I think the best thing to do would be to wait for the bike to sit at a location then have the police go get it so it doesn't get into a police chase.

In addition to their great car security systems Pandora makes a MOTORCYCLE security unit TOO. And if I just spent $8500 on a RAMBO brand VENOM model E-MTB I'd buy one for it. Scooters can be thrown into a SUV or Pick-up pretty quick.

The air tag was not shown as being one following you because it never left your range. It won't report if you have the item (or bike in this case) on you. But if its something that keeps going in and out of range, then it will report it as something following you.

Can you guys do a review/comparison of different motorcycle GPS tracking units? Frankly I haven't been impressed with any of the units on the market. It seems like every one of them has some kind of major flaw that could let you down in a stolen bike situation (currently have a Monimoto 7)

Look, if you aren't going to buy a real time GPS tracker and pay for the cellular service for it, the air tag is an inexpensive option that clearly works better than nothing at all.

I bought 4 air tags and did some research on them and there are videos on how to remove the speaker . I’ve got one hidden in my bike, now I know the thief if he has a apple phone will get a notification of a AirTag with a different name is following you but they won’t be able to hear the beep so they will most likely just ditch the bike a couple streets over because they will have to look for it and they will be worried if I realized it’s gone and have the police on the way.

So I eagerly watch this video as I’m getting ready to head to Europe and hoping to employ a AirTag system to my bike… But more curiosity is what is the monkey rider using for audio to capture his voice along with the cameras… If you look at some of my recent videos I’ve been playing with different ideas including the latest DJ Mike… I’m very curious as to what you guys are using in this video… Let me know! I ordered a set recently (havent yet received them due to the shipping delays and shutdowns in China), but I too am interested in this aspect. Hard to balance legitimate use with the converse. I'm kinda hopeful though if they didnt get a ping in this situation. Maybe it needs a lot more miles/time tracking before it notifies nearby parties.

I carry a gun lock in my tank bag on my Monkey and slide it through one of the holes on the front brake rotor whenever I park it somewhere. It's looped through the front forks so the bike cannot roll at all.
It makes me feel better at least knowing someone would have to actually pick the bike up and carry it away in order to steal it, or know it's there and have bolt cutters handy.

  • @WW-wf8tu
    @WW-wf8tu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Figured you would get around to this eventually. lol Too many holes in the scenario. Not just yours, but the real concept. For 1, it is not really wise to engage a thief. So tracking them down yourself to what? engage them and demand they give it back? Not ideal. Calling the police if and when you find it? That is dependent upon the 911 operator you reach. They tell people to leave it alone and or not pursue, let lone tell you what you find is not what you think it is. Further more they just tell you to report it to the insurance companies because that is what they are there for. Their mission is to keep non police from engaging criminals. I know, I have been told off by 911 operators and cops many times when I have attempted to thwart a crime against me or others. And then you have the fact that with all the de-funding police, your chance of having back up decreases even further. Anyhow, it is a fun hide and seek game you did here. Albeit, not a very complicated one. lol I say you do this all over again, only set up for a random target in the crew. And a random thief in the crew. Pick a thief name, pick a target name at random that way nobody will know except say.. 1 designated neutral observer. They can set up the crime for the thief w/out the victim knowing and that way it will be legal and nobody is butt hurt. That would make for a fun video. :)

Really? ...... Any active AirTag "registered" to your Apple Account and in the detectable vicinity of a compatible model iPhone will help you get the approximate location of the item it is "attached" to. If you have an expensive piece of equipment and have the ABSOLUTE need to know its precise location on demand, then BUY A LOJACK-type of GPS tracker that will "PING" its location and send it to you directly via a secure account. Apple did not make AirTags to TRACK....simply to assist in finding the tagged object with an approximate location....sheesh. If you have a pricey bike and you are hoping AirTags will locate it for you in the event of theft...YOU ARE AN IDIOT !

Alex,,, please,,,,, when you are driving and talking,,, DONT TALK WITH BOTH HANDS!! It’s such a responsibility driving so you must , must keep one hand on the wheels at all times!! Doesn’t matter who fast or slow you are driving,,,,, when the sh*t hits the fan, it hits the fan hard and fast!! I know because as a retired LEO, I heard more times than I ever imagined, they said they let go of the wheel for a second and then bam!!! things happen! A child,,, heaven forbid,,,, pet, another vehicle not paying attention,,,,,.
I really like your videos, you and Kase work very well together, so I’m not just trolling you. I am genuinely concerned for you and everyone else on the road. You are watching your phone (appropriately) but still an ADDED distraction, the video camera is on and you tend to look at it when you talk, still fine, but another ADDED distraction. You see how all three at the same time, completely unintentional, can become a dangerous situation. It’s very real. Even just a fender bender is a royal pain in the arse for days between the incident, taking your vehicle in for repairs, getting a rental, insurance, rates increases???
I love how this video worked out!! At the very least, you can get close, like you did and you WERE definitely paying attention and found the bike!! Looking for the bike itself takes your eyes off the immediate road and is a 4th distraction. There were others, likely, but it really just an example. If you keep at least one hand on the wheel, you will have the fastest reaction time possible… . At least you will have eliminate a completely inexcusable distraction or addition to your reaction time.
Stay safe out there, Eh!! Don’t trust that there Kase fella either!! He just looks kinda shifty with the retro helmet on,,, 😂😂
