Great job, I could almost "taste" the ride 💯😝, been dreaming about a goldwing and this vid settled the Harley/ Goldwing debate , as much as I LOVE the Road king and Electra Glide, it's just not the same "experience" when I'm out under a full moon, zooming, I want that "jet fighter" / F16 feeling 👍✌️
I know this is an old post but for those that have an F6B and are looking into replacing the stock bulbs with LED's. Re: LED headlights... The vast majority of LED replacement headlamp bulbs raise the beam pattern so it's essential that you adjust the headlights back down to the original level. There are two knobs to adjust the level, one next to each bulb socket. Just reach in where the handlebars poke through the dash and turn, no tools required. To aim you need a wall and a flat surface. Pull your bike up close to the wall (approx. 1-2 feet) and mark the center of the spot of light on the wall with tape. Now roll the bike away from the wall so that the front of the bike is 25 feet away from the wall. Now look at the headlight spot on the wall and adjust it so that the top edge of the beam is at or below the mark. Easy peasy.
I raced my Buddys CBR600 at buttonwillow race track in California and there were two Goldwing riders that would have so much torque out of the apex that I could never get around with that 600. As soon as I could pass them, the next turn would come without a chance of passing them.
There is a video from Jerry Palladino that featured a rider called Yellow Wolf. That guy was on his huge yellow Goldwing filming. Two sportbike riders passed them on the Tail of the Dragon. Yellow Wolf made running them down seem like they were on BMX bikes with training wheels. Got to respect the guys that can work these bikes.
I test drove a Honda F6B for sale locally just yesterday, August 9, 2021. It only had 4200 miles on it, a 2013 model. I recently had a GL 1800 Goldwing that I sold eight weeks ago. There was just something about it I never connected with it like I did with my Honda pacific coast which I commuted on for 24 trouble for years. I only sold that because I recently retired and I was not riding it more than a couple times a month. Or my Moto GUZZI norge which I absolutely loved, but, I was looking for a little more comfort, I just didn’t fit that bike even though I kept it for 14 years. I love those brakes, ABS which can be turned off when you were on gravel or grass or snow which I have been caught in the snow commuting three times over the years. If I had a bike with ABS, I would not have been able to ride that bike home in the snow, because the brakes will not work. Been there. I had a BMW k1200 LT. I was on my way to a campground where I had a downhill fly ash covered Road. When I went to use the brakes, the handlebar lever came all the way back to the bars, the foot pedal felt like someone had opened the break bleeder. No brakes on a 900 pound motorcycle going downhill. I was lucky because there was an 8 foot high cyclone fence just off the road in the corner I was approaching. I ran into that fence to stop without going down, it only broke my front fender. I have never liked ABS brakes after that on a motorcycle. My GUZZ I had ABS brakes also, but they have a button on the dashboard that you can push to turn the ABS brakes off which will revert to normal brakes so you will actually have brakes on wet grass, fly ash, snow. so I took this F6B with 4000 miles for a test drive yesterday. There was about 30° of slack in the throttle cable which made it difficult to finesse all that power. The owner was a “do not touch anything on the motorcycle, even if it will correct some thing that’s wrong “guy I offered to take the slack out of the cable so The bike would be a lot more rideable starting out from a stop sign.. but, he was nervous about touching anything on the bike. At least I checked the tire pressures. The front tire had 18 pounds, the rear tire had 22 pounds. The more I talked to the owner and looked at the bike, I was beginning to wonder if he had ever changed the oil since the bike only had 4200 miles on it since new in 2013 eight years ago. motorcycles do not wear out, they are neglected to death or pressure washed to death.. so I took this much lower than my gold wing at sixbe out for a ride after filling the tires with air. Because of the slack in the throttle cable, the power came on so unexpectedly, I thought the clutch pole was One of the highest of any machine I ever rode except for my 1966 Honda 305 scrambler then I had the angle wrong on the clutch Boss back in the 60s.. I didn’t know the angle had to be at 90° back then, I was just a beginner.. you immediately feel the massive low slung weight of the F6B. I actually feel that that motorcycle has way way too much power..its like hunting turkey with a sharps carbine buffalo rifle..like john wayne said-“ too much gun”… no wind protection.. enough luggage room, but not too much.. good flat firm roomy seat that does not give you UUA,or make you sit on your balls..it has well placed wide rubber tooped footpegs instead of floorboards which i am NOT a fan of.. i found the f6b awkward, ,, I felt like I was sitting on top of it rather than into it. doing slow turns was nervous.. The massive weight may be very low centered, but you never forget it’s a very heavy lump of iron under you. I didn’t realize it didn’t have cruise control, it doesn’t have reverse, I thought the windshield would protect me somewhat, But no, I would have to buy taller windshield, Do without the cruise control, and reverse on that massive two wheeled lump. No wonder they still had brand new left over 2013’s as late as 2018 in many dealerships.. I did not even make an offer on the f6b.. I mean all that power, for what? If you can’t use 100% of the power of your motorcycle at least once a day, you are burning gas for nothing. I know there are people out there that feel that too much power is just enough. The type of people that go for a Vmax will like this bike. Not me. I think it’s childish
Sounds like you made a wise choice passing on the F6B. 4200 miles and 2013 - I am surprised the tires were not dry rotted form what you described. You are right about a lot of bikes don't wear out, they just get neglected to death.
@@RRatedCustoms if you think the 2013 F6B tires were in danger of dry rotting here in 2021, how about the 2002 Honda GL 1800 I bought with 13,000 miles on it in 2018. I weighed the rear tire when I took it off the rim. I’m talking about the original tire. That tire weighed 25 pounds. I replaced it with a Dunlop Elite 4 for the Goldwing. that new tire only weighed 20 pounds. That is a massive amount of unsprung weight reduction..Unsprung weight is so critical, the porsch uses titanium Lugnuts to reduce unsprung weight, Which plays havoc and reduces the speed at which your suspension can recover after encountering bumps
always owned a Honda wouldn't own anything less I rode a 883 Harley and compared it to my Honda Shadow I had at the time what a difference in the ride and throttle response two different rides and experience liked them both but choose the Honda smoother
The Goldwong looks like a plush ride. It would still be like new at those miles on a Goldwing.. I did 186-000klms of a H/D 2005 Fatboy. Regular service and rode she pretty hard. Still going strong when I upgraded to the Fatbob. A lot of miles left in a bike with 40plus on her so long as they haven't been stacked or customized the wrong way.
Yes, the 1800 Goldwings are pretty good for miles on miles too. My pal has a full dressed Goldwing with 100,000 miles on the odometer. I have seen used ones with closer to 200,000 miles for sale through private sellers from time to time. If only everyone did as much distance as us...
In 2013 I traded my 2013 Harley Road Glide Custom, couldn't take the heat, for a 2013 F6B. After 30 years of Harleys I kicked myself for not buying a Goldwing before. The smoothness, POWER, handling and comfort were so superior to the Harley. Did a cross country in 2015, that flat 6 hummed at 80 mph, it was a road sofa. Unfortunately, I interrupted a ladies texting by stopping and she rammed me in the back and totaled the bike.
@@RRatedCustoms I would go with the sub 2018 models. They're having some problems with front tie rods and the cheap aluminum spindles in front. Traxxion Dynamics has dealt with these but the sub 2018 platform was bulletproof for 40 years. I will replace the F6B, eventually, with another one.
I've always had a Harley for 17 years now. But I gotta admit these new gold wings are pretty bad ass ! To be honest I think I've gotten a bit bored with Harley's. I bought a kawasaki Vulcan 1600 recently just to try something different. Nah...it's pretty much a road king with liquid cooling. Same power delivery and vibrations are Harley has. I expected it to be more refined being a Japanese bike but it's not. Typical big twin. So guess I'll have to try a gold wing or some kind of sport adventure tour bikes next. Kawasami Versys 1000 looks fun
Think the fan issue you referred to predates the F6B by a few years, it was an issue at low speed in traffic, causing overheating, because the air naturally coming across the radiator was fighting the fans.
Anthony C. Roberson tell us more about total comfort and riders triangle comparables. I am very interested in becoming an f6b owner. But not if it is less comfortable than what I am currently riding.
Great question. First to put things in perspective. I have a 33.5" inseam, 6'1" wingspan and stand at 5'10". Now the seating position made me have a straighter back than on my Harley. The bars were neutral. I can see why folks add the highway pegs as being tucked for long periods of time might get a bit tiresome for the leg muscles.
I'm still on the fence. I've got the 2015 FJR1300, and I love it except for that annoying vibration through the handlebars that almost everyone I know who rides one complains about. Other than that, it's the most badass bike I've ever owned in over 30 years of riding. But recently I got turned on to the idea of the F6B and found a local Honda dealer that has two of the 2016's in stock for $19,900 brand new. Might go ride one tomorrow and see if it's gonna be worth sacrifice the nimbleness of the FJR for the comfort of the F6B.
I think it is interesting you are considering the F6B coming from the FJR because I have one person ask why I compared the two. Please keep me posted on your experience comparing the two.
New 2016's are going for under $14k right now. I have a '14 and it's by far the best I have ever been on. F6b is destined to become one of those legendary short run classics 13-17 years. Outstanding bike.
As much time as we spend in the saddle on some these rides, being able to skip a bad song is a must! There have been plenty of times where the radio has kept me sane on a long ride.😎
"Deadpool gloves"? You mean he wears "Awesome Anthony Motorcycle Mitts".😆 Seriously, yes Brutus would be hard to give up. This is not quite as flickable right off the bat as true ST but it quite a beastie and was fun to review.
Not really. The Honda has the flat six going for it but the Harley has ease of maintenance and not having to worry about luggage falling out the left side bag when open😃
I appreciate your video and your comparisons, specifically to the FJR as I have a 2013 and am considering the F6B. Very good of you to take it on some country sweepers as just about everybody just talks about how smooth they are on the superslab. In your opinion, is the reverse gear needed for the F6B? Thanks again.
Thank you for your appreciation. I really did not try backing it up. I guess it depends on the size and leg strength of the person. I know at 5'10" and a svelte 240 there are a few times my Harley could use one when fully loaded with gear and passenger.
If h-ds would incorporate water-cooled....it would solve several issues...except for the prices....F6b would be one for the stable....would like a gtf1 version.....just fer .....all-carbon, turbo and airstrip access...😏😜😎😳
Honda is a great bike. So is the Harley. Prefer the Harley for riding position, sound and looks. Plus, as good as the Wing is, (I've owned one) its just so much plastic. But if you want the ultimate reliability with little maintenance, the Wing is great.
Now you know. I don't see myself going back to v2 any time soon. And I have the previous, smaller version, of this engine. Vibrationwise, search youtube for "coin test" I bet your HD will not pass that :P
Absolutely! As you know, even a minor vibration can cause large discomfort over long distance/period of time in the saddle. The F6B was so smooth as far as vibrations that anything I felt was almost like pure bike connecting with the road. Nothing from the powertrain masking it.
Great vid. Lots of comparisons between the other Honda. Any thoughts on comparing the F6B to your Harley. I have road an Ultra for 10yrs. Was looking at something different.
Great question and I hope this covers what you might be looking for. If not, then feel free to ask! First, the engine comparision. The flat six has an advantage over the V-twin because there is no lag from the only two cylinders venting the exhaust near the same time. The downside is there no lope but rather a purr from the engine. Second, final drive comparison. A shaft seems to have longevity over a belt. Sure belts can last up to 100k miles, but my experience has been that 86k is more likely. I am sure that shafts have worn out too and that bring me to the third point. Third is ease of working on the bikes. The F6B has a single sided swingarm. Easy to get the rear wheel on and off. The Harley has a two sided swingarm which is not too much more difficult to remove the rear wheel but to remove the belt requires removing the swingarm and primary drive. I do not recall the Honda F6B needing that much removal just to replace the shaft. The Harley has the Honda beat on the air filter location. There are several videos showing all the parts that need removing to get to the air filt on a Goldwng. Harley is so easy! Finally, changing bulbs on the Honda is more an ordeal than the Harley. Again, there are videos on that. Otherwise, both bikes are nice for what they are. If you are craving more of a Porshe like experience, then the F6B might be something that interests you, but know wrenching can get tedious when it comes to some items. If you like the musclecar performance, then the Harley would be more your style. Sure we Harley owners can soup up our steel horses for more thrills but there is something to be said for having most of that already built into the bike from the factory. Maybe keep the Harley and get a F6B as a spare for those days you want to put a sportbike to shame?
I own a 16 Street Glide and a 15 F6B Deluxe. They are both a wonderful machines and stir the soul in different ways that bring a smile to my face. Long haul the Wing is hands down a bigger and more comfortable bike. Smooth anywhere on the tach and power is right now. I have a stage two 103 and she moves out pretty good but also cost 4 to 5 grand when all was said and done. If money is no object, you can customize your Harley with many of the thousands of parts available. The F6B....not so much, but I'm certain the cost of ownership is far less with the Wing when you factor the entire ownership experience. It also goes like stink right out of the box.
I find the Goldwing almost too automotive...you almost lose the feeling of being on a motorcycle...side opening saddlebags suck, all your gear falls out every time you open them. Air cleaner change is a nightmare...you have to take half the bike apart to change it. The Honda sound system pales in comparison to the HD sound system. I've owned both of the bikes in your review.
Haha! No just not as smooth though. My bike has stage 1 done to it and with the Fuelpak3 it is tuned nice and tight. The throttle progressivity can be adjusted from race to very mild. I usually run it at aggressive setting though. Still that flat 6 Honda engine is sweet!
Good Vid and review! but why do you keep comparing the F6B with the FJR 1300? They are Two totally different Bikes and not a fare comparison to each other.
Great question. I guess because when Honda stopped making the ST1300 for sale in the US, the F6B was close you could get from the brand. The were some law enforcement agencies that used the F6B for police use like some did/do the FJR1300. I realize that Honda list the F6B as a cruiser but look how both this and the FJR1300 are both shaft drive, equipped with bags, and similar seating position. Then when strip a GL1800 down you see a striking resemblance to a sportbike in the frame design. Finally, because the FJR1300 made my list of top bikes for everything I reviewed last year.
Great question. It depends on the beginner's individual build and confidence. There is a lot of power that is just a flick of the wrist away so if someone was nervous on riding they might give it too much gas on take off. These bikes are a bit stout so if a smaller person had to squat lif the bike back up then they might be challenged. However, if the beginner is of average build for European or American then lifting should not be too bad. If the beginner rider has great hand coordination then they might be ok on the throttle too.
I went from a Vulcan 900 after about a year straight into the full dress Goldwing, went to a F6B to 13, found out it was my dream bike so I traded it in for my current White 2016 F6B Deluxe! Check out my channel for periodic reviews on the motorcycle at different mileage, it'll tell you everything you need to know about a Goldwing F6B
Several commonalities: Japanese companies, Sport-Touring bikes, Shaft drives, More than three cylinders, Similar price range, and Both reputed to be the best. So now i joined the ducati monster s4r to the GL´s for those lovely mountain roads but to do more than 40miles GL is the ride :)... my girlfriend said that the motorcycle for her was the Ducati monster S4R, the goldwing is for old people, blablabla... until she went for a litle trip with me on the ducati for 20 miles. After that i needed to do a litle trip (to see her) and she asked to go on what motorcycle, do you guess??? GOLDWING, so we can do a ride together! I´m 45, she is 44 and that crap that GL´s are for old guy´s is only jealous lol ... Just hopping to buy the GL1800 bagger and keep the Ducati monster and Goldwing gl 1100 in my garage... Ride safe! ;)
I didn't get a extended warranty on my 2016 Road Glide Ultra hoping it doesn't turn in to a mistake. Only have 5700 miles right now it's not that I don't want to ride it have a house that I have been working on the past couple of years. With the miles you have has your bike have you had to have big repairs done?
I remember when we rode without fuel gauges. Nothing like realizing the petcock was on reserve already when you are sputtering on the road due to a math error.
Gokdwings are a scam. Harleys are overpriced but way better. You have to replace windscreen seat and bars on f6bs plus the usual Wing Wobble. Do not get caught like I did with an expensive boat anchor .

😎👍
Johnny - try an old Honda Valkyrie 97-03. You will love it !
Think the fan issue you referred to predates the F6B by a few years, it was an issue at low speed in traffic, causing overheating, because the air naturally coming across the radiator was fighting the fans.
What a great idea. This is exactly how I came by my goldwing review.
Awesome.
Did you buy one
did you get off the fence and buy a F6B? I did and love it, went from a 2020 GT ROCKET TO A 2017 F6B😀
I really think I want one! Thanks for the video.👍
I am glad it helped. These are impressive bikes for sure.
Gona look into buying one. Something me n my wife can be comfortable on thanks
"If a bad song comes up, this changes it." Lol!
As much time as we spend in the saddle on some these rides, being able to skip a bad song is a must!
There have been plenty of times where the radio has kept me sane on a long ride.😎
Lovely looking big bike👌🏼 I wouldn’t swap it for Brutus but I certainly wouldn’t kick it out of bed 😃 Still digging your dead pool gloves 👍🏼😃👍🏼
"Deadpool gloves"? You mean he wears "Awesome Anthony Motorcycle Mitts".😆
Seriously, yes Brutus would be hard to give up. This is not quite as flickable right off the bat as true ST but it quite a beastie and was fun to review.
Wings will easily run 300K miles and beyond....40K is nothing.....
Awesome!👍
Riding a Harley after riding a Honda must be utterly disappointing.
I wish H-D went with a true water cooled system...this summer heat really shows!
Where did the F6B rider backrest come from?
Honda is a great bike. So is the Harley. Prefer the Harley for riding position, sound and looks. Plus, as good as the Wing is, (I've owned one) its just so much plastic. But if you want the ultimate reliability with little maintenance, the Wing is great.
I may have to get one of each is what I am hearing.
Now you know. I don't see myself going back to v2 any time soon. And I have the previous, smaller version, of this engine. Vibrationwise, search youtube for "coin test" I bet your HD will not pass that :P
No one said my bike would pass the coin test.
Anthony C. Roberson wouldn't you want it to, though?
@@RRatedCustoms Thanks for the fast response. This gave me what I was looking for. Thanks again!
I am glad it helps!
By the way, if you get both and have a significant other - let me know how you convinced them. Asking for a friend...😉
Fantastic video
Thank you!
Both bike are nice
Thank you, but his was so much smoother and peppier.
What brand of fog lights are those?
🤷♂️I am not sure on his bike.
I like all of these videos; letting someone else drive while the audience can take in the views.
😎 That is a really good point. I have been thinking about making some 360° videos so the viewer can control where they look.
You have some interesting points. I think I agree with some of them.
"This is the volume, if a bad song comes on this changes it"
🤔You got to watch the hands of the master magician or you miss the trick. He is explaining two different switch functions.
Your Harley must feel like a moped after riding the F6B !
The comparison is great as these are the 2 bikes i am deciding between
Let me know which you end up with and why. They both are really good choices.
Just curious but what helmet is your friend wearing. It looks like a low profile one. Thanks
I am not sure but I will ask hime the next time I see him.👍
Thanks a lot.....
absolute worst for rider engine heat is a Boss Hoss especially the 502 .....marshmallow over campfire----gonna get sticky-----
That does not sound like fun for anyone.🙁
Can it turn 17 feet?
Do you mean the Keyhole turn like cops do? Yes, it can do that.
Are these good beginner bikes?
Great question. It depends on the beginner's individual build and confidence. There is a lot of power that is just a flick of the wrist away so if someone was nervous on riding they might give it too much gas on take off. These bikes are a bit stout so if a smaller person had to squat lif the bike back up then they might be challenged.
However, if the beginner is of average build for European or American then lifting should not be too bad. If the beginner rider has great hand coordination then they might be ok on the throttle too.
@@RRatedCustoms thanks for the information im thinking about getting one of these it would be my first bike I'm 6'2 320
Awesome! Let me know what you end up with and why. I hope whatever you choose will give many happy miles and smiles🙂
Why do you repeatedly compare it to the FJR1300?
Several commonalities: Japanese companies, Sport-Touring bikes, Shaft drives, More than three cylinders, Similar price range, and Both reputed to be the best.
Some law enforcement agencies have adapted each of these for patrol use:

I have gl 1100, i have gl 1500, and i had gl 1200.
Once you ride one Goldwing, you will never have courage to leave them (just had another bikes like i did lol - now i have 4 which 2 are goldwings).
I´m 45, she is 44 and that crap that GL´s are for old guy´s is only
jealous lol ...
Just hopping to buy the GL1800 bagger and keep the Ducati monster and Goldwing gl 1100 in my garage...
Ride safe! ;)
There is so much to be said for being able to ride in comfort :)
I ride a 2014 Limited. Here is my latest review...

What year and model is your bike?
That Honda is not mine unfortunately.
Remember when we rode without GPS.
I remember when we rode without fuel gauges. Nothing like realizing the petcock was on reserve already when you are sputtering on the road due to a math error.
@@RRatedCustoms I remember when they were kickers. You were a pu$$ if you bought one with e-start.
Gokdwings are a scam. Harleys are overpriced but way better. You have to replace windscreen seat and bars on f6bs plus the usual Wing Wobble. Do not get caught like I did with an expensive boat anchor .
🤔 interesting...
