That's really cool! The RSD live in Detroit was sold out when I showed up. I slept in as well, and didn't get to my record store till 1:30 I believe. But I'm for sure gonna listen to the doors albums if you say some of them are funky. Much love brotha man
This boxset was a must for myself as well as the RDS Black Friday release which I was able to get both. From what I understand, Rhino will release the boxset albums individually and will be available as non-numbered releases. Having the AP releases as well, it is going to be nice to listen to them without having to get up so many times. I always look out for any Doors RSD releases. The only RSD release I didn't pickup I believe was the 3" offering a few RSD's ago. Congrats on your acquisitions and simply enjoy all of the music.
Nice review! Rhino will do unnumbered versions of these Kevin Grey albums in the new year so they should be able to get you a Strange Days replacement! Cheers
The Doors recorded numerous live shows during 1969 - 1970 for their Absolutely Live double album. In 1983 they released a single album of outtake highlights and then during the CD era all the shows recorded for the double live album Absolutely Live in full which are now being reissued one by one for RSD. The Boston 1970 show from this series is quite the one because Jim is very intoxicated, it has a rare live version of The Spy and power gets cut off at the end cause they go over the venue curfew. They did four shows in New York that were out as a CD box set that are excellent, overall I like those a bit more than the Detroit '70 show and a show in Pittsburgh while short enough to fit on just one CD is excellent, featuring a medley of When The Music's Over and the last part of The Soft Parade and a song never done in the studio, Someday Soon. The Doors amassed almost an album's worth of additional material during the Morrison Hotel/ LA Woman period between studio outtakes and songs that were only really done at live shows.
I'm patiently awaiting mine. I'm up here in Canada and if you ordered from Warner Music Canada it ships on the Thirteenth of December. I too got the box because I just have that same greatest hits and a couple of copies of L.A. Woman. (An 80's Reissue and the 2x45 AP). Selling points for me were also getting them all in one shot, the box looked cool and the KG master/cut. Also the price. Each one of those APs is $60US which depending on where you buy them from can come in at $90CAD + tax + shipping. I really don't understand the cash grab comments. If I'm correct the box came in at $250USD which is $40USD per album + $10USD for the box in today's market that seems reasonable for "audiophile" records. I mean if people are saying its a cash grab because they already have great sounding originals, APs or other reissues then be happy with those right? Anyway I'm excited about getting mine. I wasn't exposed to classic rock growing up (Immigrant family) and I just moved towards other genres(post punk, industrial, alternative). I had never really explored The Door's albums in depth besides L.A. Woman mainly because when I heard the album it blew my mind listening to the influence it had on a band like Joy Division. So when I went back for a deeper dive via streaming I just had to order the box :)
Im so tired of hearing the "cash grab" complaints - there are people like myself - who have loved the Doors for YEARS and never had any on Vinyl - so for me this is awesome. To me - the more vinyl the better!
Great review. I have the Analogue Productions 45 rpms of all but “Waiting…” & “Soft Parade”, and I also have the DCC pressings of the debut and Strange Days. So I Definitely don’t need this box set, but I Will get the Rhino Hi-Fi “Waiting for the Sun” when they release it individually. The AP 45 rpm version of LA Woman is the Definitive pressing, sonically.
If I end up getting any of the 45s it will be that one. I could have gotten it used at my local shop earlier this year for $40! I should have pulled the trigger.
Morrison Hotel is also my fav Doors album since I bought it the day it was released. It also happens to be Kevin Gray's fav Doors album. LA Woman and The Doors are a close 2nd and I agree that The Doors is one of the best debut rock albums of all time. I have an original 1967 US pressed The Doors that still sounds great.
It is cool they sell it without the numbers so everyone can get one. I wanted the box so I was willing to pay extra for that but I would not pay third hand prices for it. Same with the infinite box.
@@PiecesofVinyl What's the point of numbering something as if it's "limited" if you're going to sell it unnumbered anyway? Is it the box that's limited, are we paying for limited box's now?
man i love the Doors but why would you subject yourself to that oliver stone movie more than once? that man is a god awful filmmaker. instant headache. I love movies, and Stone is one of the worst ever.
Hey, please forgive me if I'm wrong, but on one of your videos, I thought you said if you buy a Box Set, you take out the Records/disk's and store them separately. Why would you do that??? The Box is the main thing, that houses the package. The Box makes the package cool to look at. The box often comes with cool artwork. What you do, is a waste of a cool package. Sorry man, but I don't understand why you do such a thing??? Like I said, if I heard you wrong, I apologize. Cheers Martin
Thanks for the question! And thanks for watching! I should do a whole video on this. I take them out because I sleeve them and I usually keep the vinyl in the outer sleeve so I can quickly take it out and listen without having to take out the jacket. I have a separate shelf for the boxes and any extras they contain and I can quickly get to those if I want too. I get worried about damaging the jackets by not having outersleeves so that is the main reason. But I have pined over this. It def. Takes up more space.

Def. The last two. The first three are very 60s - you would like them.

I'm so glad you revealed the SPARS code right off the bat.

Yes! It I will have to buy a new one…which I probably will!

Good to know regarding the live shows and all these RSD releases.

It was my favorite since the first time I heard it.
Snake skin???? Dude it’s the representation of the Lizard King 🦎 👑!!!!!
TBH it looks more like alligator Skin - but you know - "Ride the Snake - the Snake is long - seven Miles..."
Did you get the ZZTop Rhino box …it’s amazing
I did not - I am still considering the un numbered versions. I totally missed that when it came out.
The End is the Doors masterpiece from the first album.
It is a masterpiece.
So the new money grab is charging extra for "numbers" 😂
Then sell the same things again without the numbers.
These labels think we're idiots

AP 45s sound much better than these rhinos

I Was 12 - and this was before the internet - still Val Kilmer killed it in that movie.
