That’s probably the creepiest short horror film I’ve seen on TH-cam. The cinematography in the woods was awesome. You need to turn this into a movie. I don’t know when I’ve been so entranced by a film.

I literally cannot think of anything else to say. This was incredible, it actually gave me chills. This is the best short film ever seen, amazing job!!
The child actor in this has something incredibly special about him. He's been in some other films I've seen and I was always kinda drawn to his performance and personality and essence. Weird I don't really know why, most would say he is just a typical child actor. But he made this film in a lot of ways. Brilliant
Thanks for watching, Renee! 'Within' was actually Ridley's first film work which is pretty rad! He has since gone on to make appearances in the TV series 'Scaredy Cats' and 'Schmigadoon!'
Rory, whomever you are, you're a damn genius. This is definitely one of my favorite short films. It's so beautifully created...with the dark cinematography and those forest scenes! Dark, intense, visually appealing, emotional...it could be a full length feature film.
Very kind of you to say haha hopefully I haven't' set the bar too high for myself on this first one. Not every short I post will be of this production level and scale! Some will be very very small and guerrilla (like the next one!). But I promise they all will have something to say underneath the surface.
This is one of the best short horror films I've ever seen. It was super dark and right from the beginning when they showed that hole in the woods, you just had this feeling of dread as if something bad was going to happen. I never anticipated all of those things to happen which I don't want to say to spoil the story. But, this film had me pulled in from start to finish and the final scene in the woods was incredible as far as the special effects go. It was incredible! I would definitely give this a 10/10, amazing job!
I swear that many of these under rated short movies are way better than big block buster full length Hollywood movies!! Great job. True talent comes out with little to no special computer effects!!!
I'm at 5:45 & I must say: Its a beautiful family (even a kind child, a rarity in real life) & how about that HOUSE?!! Its gorgeous with a breathtaking forest! Now, back to the film....:)
Great short. The actors did their job. I like that you could see the struggle within the father and confusion withn the son. When the mother jumped back after husbands response at dinner, I had memories of things that never actually happened to me...lol. I want a back story on the creatures. Part 2 plz.
As a fan of cinema with horror being my favorite genre, I was blown away by the production coming from such a small crew. Roy you guys are in the right business. You can tell by your end result that everyone involved has contributed to a work of art, not just a short movie. Ryan, excellent job with the sound design. The tone was set early on and kept us with that uneasy feeling throughout. Also, visually it was stunning. This story had a real 'The Shining', vibe to me. Although different circumstances it showed a man in despair and the internal decent which led to the end result. The actors were great in portraying their situation helping pull it all together. All of you involed: 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 One of the best short horrors I have ever seen. I would love to pay money to watch a full length feature in a theater done by you Rory and crew. I hope you get there in the not to distant future. Your love of filmmaking and storytelling is abundantly clear in the finished project. Amazing job!!!!!

Good production value and great visuals. A comprehensive short story not bogged down by distractions. Well directed, acted, and to the point. You made the most of every frame here. A rarity nowadays. Well done!
I wish someone with some money would invest in this guy's talent and allow him to make a full length film. The talent is obviously there and this short film is an example of what he is capable of and as a movie fan I can tell you this short film is much better than the dogshit hollywood has been putting out for the past couple of decades. Good job I hope to see more of your work in the future. You have the talent for sure and I wish you the best of luck
Wow, thanks so much for the support, Josh! Here's a little nugget for you... I was approached to shoot a feature film. We developed it for nearly a year. Have a great producer. Then we hit an annoying wall where-in we were having issues getting a great cast due to my lack of "body-of-work". So in order to get that movie actually made... I had to step away as director. I will be getting a co-writing credit as well as an Executive Producer credit. So this channel is dedicated to just that... Building a small body-of-work in order to more easily get my first feature as a director made.
Agree. Too many commercial full length movies continue to recycle the same old big name actors and directors which is tiring to viewers. That is why I ended up here - to see something fresh and unique which this film is.
@@moviesbyrory Those actors for a great cast are often over valued because of their well known names (as you likely know) but I know that they sell movies which is the bottom line. It is refreshing to see unknown actors that have talent in movies such as yours. One of the better short horror films I’ve seen in a while. Unusual concept and extremely creepy, especially since spider creatures are particularly unsettling. Well done, congratulations.
I'm going back to watch it again and again...I keep trying to see what that creature is as it looks like the smaller thing Ben found in the woods. It's like a giant trap door 🕷️ spider with alien mind control powers. Amazing film!!
Really happy you enjoy it that much! We had actually planned to show a little more of the creature at the end. But our budget didn't allow it. The IDOL is absolutely meant to hint at what the actual creature may look like though! And a bit of fun trivia: the monster is a practical in-camera effect with me as the puppeteer.
No Thank you, I am a die hard horror fan n watch so many short stories viewed here on utube and I must say there’s only a few that I really enjoyed n u just made that list I want to see more of what u have. This literally gave me the creeps. I was actually scared and disturbed. The sound design played a huge part in this. The audio is just incredible ! It manages to transmit so much heaviness, despair, coldness and hopelessness ! And the amazing forest scenes... The actors were incredible too, especially the dad imo. This last scene is haunting ! What a masterpiece. But please, I would really love that filmmakers would stop to kill dogs in atrocious manners in their movies now ! 😩 lol

Wow, that was dark! Original work with respectful *nods* to Pet Sematary, Jug Face & even the legend of the Bunyip! Perfectly filmed! I do admit I wish more background, even a little, had been provided as to why these humans were SO susceptible to this Evil. But eerie work!
Thank you! I leave it open to interpretation. But there is a lot of symbolism going on with the "den", the "idol" and the "creature" itself. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch!
I thought this was beautifully shot especially the woods. The woods reminded me of Santa Cruz woods during the winter times. When I used to hike in with my dogs or a friend there was always this creepy side to it. Your team captured it perfectly. The story line... it took me a while to get it and then I got it. The mother, wife gave up herself in the end was poetic. The father well, he is a shit head that killed his son first. I would think he would have killed his wife first before his son or dog. I guess, I am a dog lover and I am woman, so maybe I am bias. It's something to think about any way. Who would you take out first? I bet that discussion went for hours.
It's worth noticing that when you add a dog in an horror movie, then everything get more complex and emotional ! Thanks for that piece of art ! . P.S. : probably the awfullest idea of a sequel to propose : a fate worse than death for the poor woman.
Thanks for watching HerHearBeats! Ya, even those that don't have empathy and compassion for humans often do for dogs. So it always hits a bit differently for sure.

Greetings from Vancouver, Canada! Thank you! We used the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and shot RAW format. Allowing for our colorist, Jason, to have a large range to push and shape the colors/blacks. As far as recommendations go. It really depends on what you need in a camera. This was amazing, man! Keep it on, please.
Thanks so much Vadim! Not all of the posted films will be of this budget level (The next one is only $100 budget) but I promise they'll all be unique... and have something to say!
Jesus Christ, the little skinny puppet thing gave met the creeps before anything happened, Good film thanks.
Thanks so much for watching Katty! Appreciate you taking the time! -Rory

Merci beaucoup vraiment super et crée cest copier puisé dans notre inconscient et qui dépose tjrs en depassant la dernière.
Thank you as well. While I don't understand perfectly. I can see the appreciation and a few key words suggest you see the layers I hoped to capture :) Thanks for watching!
@@moviesbyrory ;)merci a toi surtout.
Yes.. it was really good.. i can't even bring myself to look through the comments because i know that at least 1/3 of them are gonna be "OMG this needs to be an actual netflix series ASAP!! every.. time.. it's maddening..
Really wonderful ! Tension all the way through….no cliches !
Hey Richard! Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to share your thoughts. Thanks!
That's a really good piece of work! I enjoyed it immensely - very effective in giving a sense of dread that evolves into real horror!
On behalf of the whole team, thank you! We appreciate you checking it out :)
Masterpiece. Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch, Orsolya! We appreciate it and we're happy you enjoyed it!
This was awesome! Loved it. Thank you.
Thank YOU for taking the time to watch and comment, Anne! Glad you enjoyed. Have a great day :)
@@moviesbyrory when a short movie is this good, you have to take the time to write the appreciation. It is a must! If you made this, you should be very proud of your work. You are talented.
More of this particular creature would be greatly appreciated.
Lloth Vibes from the monster
Amazing work! so well done.
Yo Dan! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. We appreciate the kind words!
This was incredible man! Seriously! Outstanding work!

@@akkdela2 Thanks! I'll have another little short posted in a couple weeks. Much much smaller scale though. Very guerrilla style filmmaking. 6 hours and $100 budget. Teaser is live now!
Yes I saw the teaser.
This was awesome! I saw your films at RNG and SNG this year and was thoroughly impressed. Very nice work!
Wow! That was good! Cinematography, WHO ever could make this into a full movie...
Wow, I know I'm late to the party, but that was great! Really really well done, and beautifully presented. Scary AF is the cherry on top! Great work!
that's one of the better horror shorts from what I've seen so far. Congrats!
everything was perfect, poor kid killed by his dad who loved him .want more great actors and monsters
OMG!! Bloody Brilliant! Excellent Horror!!!!
Oh Wow ! How Creepy and Scary . Really well done .

Great Intro amunes music💯💯💯
this was an awesome short horror movie. the acting and story was great. good job
Holy shit, great work Rory, look forward to more from you
Thanks Nick! Really appreciate you taking the time to watch :) Thanks for the support!
😩 lol
Thanks so much for watching and your kind words! It's really appreciated. 'Within' actually just won "Best Sound Design" at the 2022 Vancouver Short Film Festival! You can find Ryan Steinbach', our sound designer/composer's TH-cam channel featured on my home page.
PS. And I promise, no more killed pets in my future films...
@@moviesbyrory awww, thank you 😊 I'll definitely check Ryan's work !
i loved this , it felt longer than it was ,i cared about them. leave things alone , the poor kid had an awful death hacked by his dad , great story acting . this was better than a lot of the horror on main stream .
Ronald! Thank you for watching :) I appreciate the kind words!
thanks for telling the movie!!
@@sdanzey6441 Who goes into a comment section of a short film before watching it? Of course it’s gonna be spoiled. We’re here to comment and discuss what we just watched.
@@sdanzey6441 This happens all the time & as it is the comment section you should know by now watch the film first. If your going to bitch than bitch at everyone not just one person. I apologize to you if this is the first film you've ever seen on YT if not i hope you learned a lesson.
Extremely well done!
Thanks Naomi! Wouldn't be the same without you and our other backers! Thank you for the continued support!
That was really good and creepy I don't think I seen a clip like that on TH-cam that was that good and that's scary
Thank you :)
This was excellent. Liked, commented and subscribed as it goes :) .
I enjoyed the hell outta this flik! Thank You for sharing.
Very Nicely Done One of The Best Ive Seen So Far !!!!!!!!
Awesome short movie. Would loved for it to have been a full movie.
It only does for the dog lovers, I couldn't care less if the dog dies, but children? Babies? Wayyy too emotional 😭
This deserves so many more likes. 👍
Wow--great stuff--thanks for posting.
Yo Scott! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Really glad you enjoyed our short! I've posted another (lower budget guerilla style) short recently as well. With more on the way! Happy watching!
Mind blowing, thank you very much!!!
Wow totally amazing from start to end ❤️❤️❤️❤️2 thumbs up for all involved *****
Outstanding short horror film One of the best I have watched. EVER
Greetings from South Carolina. This was awesome! What camera did you use? I have always been interested in films but I can't decide what camera to start with. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for any help you can give me. Keep up the awesome work!
And the type lenses of course can play a part in deciding which way you go. Each camera has its pros and cons!
This film is great and Im not one to give this compliments to dogs. The acting is some of the best Ive seen in a horror short film. Very tense and atmospheric keep up the good work !!!!!!
Thanks for watching Robert and double thanks for taking the time to comment! It's appreciated!
Wow... Horror at its best... short but very very intense and I love it! 👍👍
