    Let me try to explain this as best as I can. The old guy has come from the future to fulfill some sort of a fantasy where he murders his friends when they were still young. For this, he visited his younger self, and clearly emotionally traumatised him. And then executed the plan where he pretended to be dead and all. He knew they'd go to his younger self with the tapes, and one of the tapes was of their murder that was yet to take the place. He had this tape as well because, well, he's from the future, where he has already done this; when past is altered so is the future. I guess the most twisted part is that it seems more like he wanted to traumatise his younger self. You can see that when the younger self says "he is me", he is clearly trying to fight off some messed up emotions and coming to terms with his sad future reality - the one who where he becomes a serial killer. However, I don't think I completely understand it because the dates present a loophole. He acts surprised when he realises that this guy has been murdering since the 90s, which means that the incidents in the movie take place after the first killing. This further implies that the younger self had already been murdering since a long time, and this negates his reaction in the movie.

      @Oriol-oo7jl ปีที่แล้ว +130

      i'm still processing what i just saw, but maybe the old psycho travels in time to do the killings? i mean, he went to back to1990 to murder someone, so the date is 1990
      i don't know if it makes sense.
      I enjoyed the film, overall

    • @rosecranceYT
      @rosecranceYT ปีที่แล้ว +40

      @@Oriol-oo7jl That's my thought. It wouldn't make sense anyways because clearly they are in the 2020s or at least in the late 2010s, judging by the smartphone one of the guys is using. So, having in account they look 20-30s, the killer would be either a baby or hadn't born at all when the first tape recording took place.
      Also, I think the one we see lying on the ground has been attacked by the other one we see in the house, because maybe he knew the only way to fool them was by actually killing that version of himself, which involves a whole lot of new questions and paradoxes. Or maybe he just stopped his pulse at the exact moment he wanted somehow (I mean, he's from the future).
      I don't know which sounds more far fetched but man gotta love these short films...

    So here's how I interpret it. If I'm incorrect, please feel free to let me know how.
    There's Bathrobe man in the present (B1) who's friends with the 2 final victims. Eventually he'll travel back to the 90s (as B2) and spend 30 years killing people. That's who we see holding the camera in the very end. Then, an even older version of him (B3) sends the completed tapes (or at least the final one) back to B2, who forces B1 to ensure his friends watch it and become traumatized.
    How's that sound?

    • @bastymanguy
      @bastymanguy 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ya it’s very good, I just don’t think there’s a B3, I assume B2 plays the role of B3 as well as his own for the sake of simplifying things. So what you see in the movie is what you get, it’s hard enough to follow the time travel theme as is in a 9 minute short.....but then to also figure about some unknown quantity is even more taxing.

    A serial killer who can time travel? That's terrific

  • @RMR1
    @RMR1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +42

    As soon as they reveal the date is "tomorrow's," the time travel aspect becomes clear, though I didn't see the twist coming -- that the killer would be the homeowner's older self. That was novel and opens up a variety of potential motivations and psychological threads to pull and play with. The film is very well shot, with great use of lighting -- dim but not obviously so -- to set the mood and amp up tension.
    The story is terrific, though the writing has some holes that could use a little work. We're talking more of a tweak here than an outright overhaul. For example, a lot had to go right for the two hikers -- and only those hikers -- to find the killer in the woods. And it was only because, by chance, that one of them took a photo near where he lay and then noticed him -- barely -- while flipping through his photos later that night. And the killer had to rely on the hikers going to his younger self's home straightaway instead of to the police, which would be the more logical and likely option. One could argue that, well, he knew how it would all play out because he's from the future, etc., etc., but ... really? I know it was written that way to drive the story and add suspense but it was still a bit much.
    I'm not sure we needed the question -- quickly answered though it was -- of what the numbers meant, either. Of course they were dates. Sure, the hikers quickly reveal that "they must be dates," but the preceding line, "They're all labeled with different sets of numbers" felt contrived -- more a way to add an element of mystery than anything else. It's a little thing but there are a few of those unwieldy details in the film. The acting wasn't bad, but the performances were stilted and uneven at times, and moments of heightened emotion did not feel all that authentic.
    All that said, I did enjoy the film and think it has potential as a larger project in the psychological thriller genre. 3.8/5.

      Everything was stellar except the line "... I had to make sure... to see the end at the beginning. Just like he did. That I would understand." This dialogue is a contrivance, a purposefully vague antipode in an attempt to give narrative complexity by way of obscure, contradictory language. It doesn't leave the audience with coded nuggets to be contemplated. Instead, it leaves us wishing that character either spoke with clarity or emoted as if he had an epiphany about the killer's directions.

    But... SPOILERS!
    If the Older Him came back to tell Younger Him that his friends were coming, etc., wouldn't Younger Him already know he had been killing since the 90's?
    Was this a time-skipping thing where he's dead early in the story, but because he's jumping around temporally, he's still alive at the end from his perspective?
    How did an elderly man (who has revealed himself and his intentions) overpower two younger, physically fit men? Younger Him didn't seem to have much fight in him, so he's an unlikely ally.
    It was shot well, and the audio and music were good. The premise isn't bad, either, I just have one of those brains that gets hung up on the mechanics of plots like this...

  • @AntonLennikov

    The story is a time loop or multiple loops, we have video recorder guy who in the future get access to the time travel technology and use it commit murders. The two explorer friends find him dying in the woods from the injuries he sustained in the future fighting and killing them in his future after which he travels to the past using his bracelet where two friends find him setting the whole loop to close. The problem is if the old man is dead in the woods how he knows that tapes were taken to his younger self?

    • @MarcosIsABaritone
      @MarcosIsABaritone ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It makes sense. Though there are some flags on the field. Why is serial killer fucking with his PAST self? Why is serial killer speaking in code to younger self and why is younger self repeating the code like he can't express his own thoughts?

    • @jacksquatt6082
      @jacksquatt6082 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarcosIsABaritone I'll tell you exactly why: bad writing. If this story were worth a damn, we would see the past and future killers working in tandem with one another, not with one fumbling around unaware of what the other was doing. I get that the past self was reluctant to do the killing, this very instance being possibly his first kill, but there are too many gaps, which you pointed out. Also, how did the time distortion happen in the first place. It all seems to believe it's smarter than it actually is, but in reality, it's just a mess.

    • @MarcosIsABaritone
      @MarcosIsABaritone ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacksquatt6082 I don't know if I could be so accusatory so as to condemn the film as a whole and call the creative team pretentious. Nor would I say it's gaps in cohesive logic - because, being fair, these are issues omnipresent in ALL time-travel themed stories, makes it an overall mess. But, I do agree that the line, told by older self to younger self, who then conveys it so obliquely to his soon to be murdered friends, was clearly written in an attempt to make the plot more compelling. A failed overreach at cleverness.

    Could immediately tell this was Canadian 1:26 in to it when he said they needed to make a couple more clicks before they set up camp. A lot of Americans would not understand this. (Plus, of course, the scenery was amazing)

    • @AS-rr9km
      @AS-rr9km 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hikers in the U.S. easily know the international metric system (kilometer conversion to miles). It is not needed per sé but could come handy in an emergency, or to estimate distance more accurately. “Miles” can appear much different depending on the terrain you’re on. So this is another reason many avid hikers, professionals, & strong hobbyists have both memorized. I get that Americans are dumb for doing it, but it was a strategic tactic at one point. Any interception of coordinates from a spy back in the day, would be required to spend the extra moments doing conversions. Who knows how many lives that’s saved? Not me 😅lol. It is funny though because I went on a trip to DR, & met a shit Ron of Canadians there! Anyway we were all drunk trying to convert some amount of miles to kilometers, & Celsius to Fahrenheit 😂😂All of our phones right next to us & we all tried for 20 mins easily to discuss it before finally looking it up in frustration. None of us really knew! However, conversion-wise, my fiancé & I being the Americans were the closest. This isn’t a gloat though, considering they never have a requirement to do “both” unless traveling in the states. *Side note* - Air Canada is ginormous bro 😂& everyone we met was super fun….Random question: are Canadians well known for being “swingers”, or was it just considered normal because we were at a vacation resort in the DR? We had quite a few awkward times 😅No harm done though! Just curious honestly because it was common with the Canadian couples we met in our age group. We were like “Ope, sorry to waste your time!” Then again it’s just a resort on an exotic island, like…it’s more probable there. But yeah just curious if you know of that being a trend lmao

    I cannot begin to say how much I loved the acting. The eyes of the influencer character upon seeing the body in the phone photo; the horror on his friend's face watching the video... WOW. Hollywood often struggles to portray a fraction of the genuine concern and sincerity.
    If this was made into a full-length movie I'd be there for it.
