Greetings from Aruba, I liked your demonstration and I decided to go with husky for now. Keep those videos coming.

I just bought a Husky 46" 9-drawer cart yesterday for my small shop, and I think it is the better box. I like the soft close drawers. Thanks for the video. Liked and subbed!

4 drawer US General would be a better comparison to the 4 drawer Husky.
$160 at parking lot sale this coming weekend.

US General 5 drawer is going on sale for Black Friday 2023 for $189! And that's for all the 8 different colors you can buy it in. I'm seriously thinking about picking one up but I've got so many other things I want to buy first. STILL I love those little carts.

One of the things you can do to bypass the not being able to open while closed on the US General is pull the drawers out and cut off the catches on the back of the drawer

I cut ~5/8 off the top of the push mechanism in the back of the top tray. Then saved the past I cut off. When they're not in you can open the drawers with the top closed. When they're in it locks them when the box is locked and closed. I also jammed a nut in the latch on each drawer to make them open easily and then glued some magnets to the back of the drawers to give them a nice feel opening and closing.

On one of my U.S. General 5-drawer Mechanic’s Carts I drilled the rivets to release the spring-loaded plunger pieces which then slide right out. This way I can selectively disable the locks on one side or the other. It also gave me the room I needed for another row of MagClip organizers in the top box. ;)
It’s reversible with a rivet gun, which is good since a housemate will be moving up to that tool cart. I just got another 5-drawer US General and a Husky 61” workbench tool chest on clearance.

I realize I am a year late here, but a comparison between that 4 drawer Husky and the US General "4 drawer" equivalent would be a far better comparison.

I will say this, US General roll cart is the #1 on the market for a reason. The US cart is geared more toward a professional level than the Husky. Husky is okay for the home game. The US is made to actually be rolled around all day every day ,try to see how long the husky can stay together when being used as such. I paid almost 500 for my husky 46” and I don’t really care for it, just Home Depot junk. It’s hard to believe it but the US General is just all around better and for anyone who wants to turn a wrench 🔧, the husky’s are made for woodworking and it shows. They just can’t handle real heavy weight automotive tools. If all you have are tools for working with wood then they are fine.

Ehh, I have a husky 9 drawer wood top box that has a couple drawers with alot of weight and drawers slide as good as empty. And yes, it is filled with "automotive tools".

Just paid $227 OTD including tax for the HF cart with the side mount tray. I don't mind putting it together. Great comparison video though. They are both made in China, so is their hardware.

Look up Dale Lucid's channel. He's got a list of easy mods you can do to the US General. I replaced the 2 stationary casters and replaced with swivel casters on mine. It works so much better

I know it’s silly but I gotta pick between gloss and no gloss.

Hi, can anyone please tell me the opening size of the bottom storage area??? I want to use it in my van but I need to put a 11" tall microwave in the bottom and know it will fit and that the microwave door can open out. The Husky looks bigger. But i prefer the US General..

“Apples to apples” would be comparing Husky to the US General 4-drawer cart.
Anyway, can the Husky lock the drawers at all? Is the lock cylinder I see only for locking the top closed? Locking drawers with the lid closed to secure everything with one lock is the standard design so that a technician in a multi-bay garage can just lock the top and walk away without worrying about the other techs helping themselves to tools that don’t belong to them. Even the screwdrivers go under the lid!
The latching drawers on the US General let you to move the cart without drawers popping open and spilling contents, though you could just close the lid to lock them closed when rolling. If the Husky drawers don’t latch and they won’t even lock with the lid down, how do you move the cart without the drawers flying open?
I know you don’t move the carts much but they are rolling carts for a reason. If the Husky doesn’t have a way to lock the drawers then it seems the other is much better suited to the intended purpose as a “Mechanic’s Cart.” ;)

This is a really dumb comment and I will just leave it at that.
The second part, you seriously think that the Husky cart would possibly be made to where you can't lock the drawers? Is that really the conclusion you came to? How did you come to that conclusion because it's on another level of stupid. Is there a cart made that is designed to move around have drawers that don't lock? Is there any tool box made that you can't lock the drawers? If there is I have never seen one. The Husky cart can lock the drawers independent of the lid. The lid just blocks access to the lever once you lock the lid. So you can move the Husky all over if you wanted with the lid open and the drawers locked.

@@NewZonaRides “["Apples to apples"] is a really dumb comment and I will just leave it at that.”
Not sure why you don’t want me to mention an even more comparable model. Harbor Freight distinguishes them by the number of drawers and there may be even more similarities to the Husky.
“you seriously think that the Husky cart would possibly be made to where you can't lock the drawers?”
No, I thought it sounded weird which is why I asked. You described that it doesn’t lock them the usual way which begs the questions “Can they lock?” and “How do they lock?” I can’t think of a better place to ask since you aim to point out the differences.
“Is that really the conclusion you came to?”
I didn’t conclude anything. I asked. I even pointed out how silly it would be “if” they don’t.
“Is there any tool box made that you can't lock the drawers?”
I can say that I’d prefer the ability to disable the automatic locking mechanism on some or all drawers and figure that it’s possible some cheaper ones only lock the top. After all, Harbor Freight calls their 4-drawer version “tech cart” instead of “mechanic’s cart”… and as you move down the line you eventually end up with two kinds of “service cart,” one with with no drawers to lock. Big stuff that won’t fit in a drawer has to sit on the open shelf regardless of which cart we pick.
“The Husky cart can lock the drawers independent of the lid. The lid just blocks access to the lever once you lock the lid. So you can move the Husky all over if you wanted with the lid open and the drawers locked.”
So if I understand this you are saying that you can secure the drawers with a lever even with the lid open? I think I prefer it that way, since I wouldn’t have to deal with latches and I could still secure them while moving the cart with the lid open. Thanks. That’s what I wanted to know!
If it came down to the 4-drawer U.S. General and the Husky at the same price and it works the way I imagine then I think I’d prefer the Husky for that reason alone. Then again, the 5-drawer U.S. General has more space so I’d swing the other way there.
