This is the way! I’ve watched about a dozen videos, some twice. I watched yours once but it didn’t show up in my history. I couldn’t find it again. All I could find in my search was either cutting the top apart or welding corners together or overlapping the corners. Anyway, I started taking things apart. Once I got things apart, the only thing that made since was riveting the two cabinets together. I ended up moving the drawer slides so the 1/2 width, shallow drawers are side by side and the 1/2 width, deep drawers are side by side. New sub here. Thank you for the video.
I think this is my favorite of these mods. The side locker is a nice addition, but my FAVORITE touch is the lock replacement 👍👍👍 I don't even have this cart, nor do I intend to get one. I just enjoy these videos. I saw one of these where the guy who did it put all of the same sized drawers together and I sort of thought you might do that.....
I'm here to tell you that your 4 caster mod may work in a small shop or service bay, but I had a box given to me here at work. It had 4 casters. My work area is the size of 2 football fields, on weekends I may be on the other end of the building, which by the way is 60 acres. The first time you push a 4 caster box full of tools 1000' you'll quickly learn that they suck!
PSA: You can buy an extra two locking swivel caster from HF that are the ones you find from the cart originally. Call up their parts department and just ask for the swivel casters that come in the box originally and they can send em to you.
Is there any reason why you can't substitute properly sized firring strips for the magnetic bars at the bottom base? Oh, and thanks for this video, I'm short, too, and I definitely want the finished project to be the same height as the original cart.
Would it work to have all the narrow width drawers by each other (so everything matches and looks more like “factory”)? Just mount the center rail at the bottom right below the other, but would that still work when it comes to making everything lock? Also, in order to make the bottom section lock, you just cut off the 10mm difference off the top locking slides?
A few dollars???? Try $200. These carts are less than $200 a piece. The full bank cart is retailing at $600. Not to mention the full bank cart is too high to use as a work table unless your 6'5" and up. I'm definitely doing this.
@@RoughRaiders13 those full banks are always on sale for $499.99. They are on sale for that price more than they aren't on sale. They also have several additional features that this custom built one does not have. I'm not saying anything against you. You do you bro, but it's just a lot of extra nonsense for no reason. You did a good job though 👍
@@victorhoyt4352you def don’t see those full bank service carts on sale for that sale (17% off) that often and if it is it’s 10-15%. Not sure what these “several additional features” are beside the fact that it’s too tall to use as a flat top unless you tower over everyone. For the price of the one 34” full bank service cart @$600 I have 2 carts stacked with a side cabinet putting me at 50” with 16 drawers…but keep telling yourself it’s nonsense and for no reason👍🏼
@@RoughRaiders13 You're thinking of the 4-drawer tech cart. The 5-drawer tool carts that he used are $280, sometimes $250 on sale, so you're spending a ton of time and maybe saving $100, and still have less overall usable storage space.

Best double stack video I've seen and I think I've watched them all.
I appreciate it

dude... this is so good. Great personality you should really film more stuff
agreed!
Use a couple of magnetic bars to keep the side locked closed
Killed it. Good video man.

Outstanding job!
If I am buying two carts, I’m using them both side by side, or attaching them side by side, for full use of everything available.

My favorite part is you built this cool ass cart in your kitchen.
Nah I just cook in my garage.
@@damienlinh lol
The first couple of steps must have been tough.
Looks factory! Awesome job
Maybe you should’ve been an engineer 😮. Awesome video 🤙🏽🤙🏽💯
Do you have to buy 2 harbor freight 5 drawer carts to do this mod, or can you buy the parts separately?

I don't see any reason why that wouldn't work as well
Did you check to see that the keys for your two tool carts were actually different?
I know the keys for husky cabinets are universal

I am in the process of doing this myself. When it comes to riveting them together did you have a gap on the sides where they meet
How did you manage to rivet the top left side under the smallest drawer rails?
Great job!
Did you bolt the bottom cart to the base at all or are they just resting on the magnets ?
No bolts, just resting on the magnets.
You’re amazing!!!!!!!!
I cut it 3 times and it was still too short
Whats the part number on those grommets
Does anyone know if you could do this with the older cart and the new carts that they have right now?
10/10
This is great, dude!
Did you consider using one of those magnetic strips to hold the side cabinet closed while unlocked?
@@2dawgsmiked684 I hadn't considered that, it's a good idea
Doesn't harbor freight make one that's almost like this?
For just a few dollars more, you can just get the full bank car, and save yourself a lot of hassel. The grommet idea is genius though!!
