I got my 4s screen replaced (design flaw software started going wonky not answering calls ) and quoted this when 4 years old .. replaced screen to new straight away. Felt like new phone. Only works on design flaws so if you drop it or take it to the bath with you you’d not get replacement and would need the Apple care.

In UK we have had consumer rights law for a long time. The video is slightly misleading / confusing. Outside the manufacturer period of 1 or 2 years, you have to prove any faults are due to the manufacturer and you have up to 6 year's from.time of purchase. If you are offered a refund, the seller can deduct a reasonable amount for the time you have used the product. Also in the UK if you pay for something on a credit card costing £100 - 30k the card company is jointly liable to cover you for faulty / unsatisfactory goods and you can take up a claim directly with them.

This may be different in the UK but as far as I know you can’t request a refund unless it’s from the place of purchase so for example, you can’t go to Apple and ask for a refund under Consumer Law if you bought it from third party electronics store. You’d have to go to the store you purchased it from in order to claim a refund. Repairs or replacements are done at Apple if needed though and they may not exclusively mention Consumer Law but they wouldn’t charge you unnecessarily otherwise they could get sued if they breach the Consumer Law Rights, as would any company selling goods.

Here in Germany with have also a 2 Year consumer law right.
But, besides that i am an apple user since Day one, i have never been refused by any Failure with apple products from apple. The Service here in Germany with my apple products (iphones and macbooks) are excellent. I have several issues with my devices and its funny because they just give you in 5min a brandnew or refurbished device after they check the devices and hear your problems. I am very happy with the service and can say that i am willing to pay more for Apple Products than for others BECAUSE of the hassle-free service. My 2018 MacBook had an Battery issue and i had a dead pixel in the center of the display... no Problem: Full Replacement of the Top and Lower Chassis. It was basicly a brandnew device for me after 2 Years of usage! I am very happy with them!

Thank you, this is so helpful! I wish I've known this when I found out about the defect in my iPhone 6s plus camera (as well as the battery that kept freezing and dying in France in the cold between November to April!!!). They only said the warranty already expired and wanted me to pay for it!!! It was an awful experience with Apple.
    My question is:
Do we have to go to the store where we bought the device from?
My friend is purchasing 2 devices for me from the US and I'm afraid I won't be able to use these magic words in the future if needed!
Also I didn't know that the magic keyboard can drain the battery, you're the first one I hear talk about it!
Thanks again for the great content!

I have one iPhone 12 Pro max bought 13/11/20 and after one year my battery health is 85% with 277 battery cycles. I reported the sudden drop of battery health after 14.5 update. They did all of diagnostics and said the battery is good without issues but the truth is that week by week, I'm losing 1% battery health. The last time I was at Apple Regent Street, I invoked my consumer law rights but they told me that wasn't do anything because the battery passed the tests. Now, I avoid to give an intensive use during the day with afraid to damage the battery even more.

I had an issue with an iPhone in US several months ago and while Apple kept running remote diagnostics and capturing data at the end they just kept telling me that they did not know what was going on and then gave me a silent treatment. Meanwhile the phone kept burning through mobile data like there was no tomorrow. Phone was under warranty when I reported the issue too. So consumers in US are much more screwed as they are at the good graces of Apple. I had to stop using the phone as I didn't know (and neither did Apple after over months of diagnostics) what was causing mobile data leaks. I felt like I was being suckered by sending gigs of data using cellular while I was still connected to WiFi. Bizarre and inexcusable.

A few things missing in this video. The Consumer Rights Act says that consumers must receive products that are
    1. Fit for purpose
    2. As described, or as seen in a sample
    3. Of satisfactory quality
Item 2 also apply to digital goods.
In this case, claiming for Apple products usually comes under "satisfactory quality" and without defect.
Within 30 days, you can ask for a full refund. This is the right to reject.
Beyond that, the seller can offer a repair or replacement before you can ask for a partial refund. This is the final right to reject.
If this final rejection is within 6 months, the seller cannot deduct anything from your refund for use of the product, i.e. you can claim a full refund.
There is no mention of a 6 year cap in the law, but a contract between the consumer and the seller can lay out the limits on claims provided that it is not unfair.

I was debating whether or not to bring in my MacBook Pro late 2016 for speaker repair, both speakers blew a few months ago and I’ve used external headphones etc for sound; I didn’t bring it in for 2 reasons, 1: it’s an extension of my arm and 2: I’m out of warranty and I can only imagine how much that would cost. Not to mention the butterfly keyboard issue. All of these issues would make you think I’d never buy another but it’s just so good, that’s the allure.

A lot depends on how friendly your Apple Store is. I’ve gotten several free repairs when I shouldn’t just because they were being nice. For instance, my wife dropped a 6-month old iPhone in the toilet, and we told them that. They replaced it anyway even though they had no obligation to do so. I took in an iMac for warranty repair on a bad drive but asked for them to fix my cracked screen. They told me it would be $75 to fix the screen, but when I came to pick it up, they told me they decided to fix it for free. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Not sure if it was mentioned but apple world wide warranty and apple care is covering your product in the whole world as long as there is an Apple store or a Premium reseller / service provider.
