    I love my R50 and yes, I use an external monitor. SmallRig now sells an R50 cage. With a mini-rig and and a 90 degree micro HDMI cable, I have found it to be comfortable to use. Having dual pixel autofocus in 4k without additional crop makes the R50 a pretty nifty camera.

    The reason for why the Third Party Batteries won't charge is most likely the same reason the Battery Life isn't shown for those Batteries. Third Party Batteries are not encoded thus the camera does not know how full the battery is and the camera just thinks that it is powered using a dummy battery. If the camera doesn't know how full the battery is or thinks it is being powered by a dummy battery than why try charging that battery. Hope you understand what my point is.

    Many like Kent Rockwell have said this Canon R50 performs at the same high level as his full frame cameras, and without all the unnecessary fluff buttons. And he's right, the photos and 4k video are among the elite. This camera has it all, amazing low light performance and tack sharp image quality. If you're an expert or even an intermediate photographer, you will be able to produce highly professional results with the R50.
    I shot real estate for over a year with just the M50 and Laowa 9mm f/2.8 ef-m lens, and low and behold with professional results that landed me more and more clients every week.
    I recently have moved on to this Canon R50 and the Nisi 9mm f/2.8 RF lens. A solid upgrade! And the results will be far better than what I already had. If you're smart and driven, you can deliver amazing professional photos and videos with "less". 😎
    It's the novice who way overspent on full frame this and that, who have to overspend because of their shortcomings as a photographer, rather than putting the effort into to actually learning how to get the very best out of their camera and lens. I see a lot of foolish people with buyers remorse who spew their venom talking about shortcomings of the R50, when it's their shortcomings as a photographer. The wise know better. 😏📷

    Regards the battery charging issue. My EOS R, R7, and now R6mkII will charge 3rd party e6-NH just fine. But many inexpensive 3rd party batteries are just normal E6 batteries. Thank you for the video.
    I have been a Canon user for decades and have shot analog with Canon and EF lenses, later digital and most recently I had my beloved Eos 6D and M50 as a replacement. Slowly I wanted to switch to a new camera and the more I inform myself, the more I realize that I can no longer use 90% of my lenses (including 24-70, 70-200 from Tamron) as well as my flashes or studio adapters....
    So either buy everything new or stick with the old cameras. Thank you Canon !

    • @beerbaron3003
      @beerbaron3003 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can use ANY lenses that are EF or EF-S mount with these cameras (including 3rd party lenses), if you use the EF to RF adaptor.
      He is talking about RF mount 3rd party lenses specifically. And as of April 2024, 3rd parties are now allowed to make RF lenses, (for APS-C so far anyway).
      Sigma have a few on the way, and Tamron has at least one coming.
      You can use 3rd party flashes with the new hotshoe just fine to, specifically Godox anyway, which may just require a firmware update of the flash or transmitter.

    • @francoc.5434
      @francoc.5434 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@beerbaron3003 I have a lot of old equipment. For example 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 G1. Both great lenses and more than sufficient for my purposes, but as far as I've read in various forums, they don't work even with an adapter.
      There are also many older flashes (especially with an old hot shoe) and they work perfectly, but even there I need an adapter which makes everything "bulky".
      So as far as I can see at the moment, I would have to replace a lot of lenses, flashes etc. (which I have bought over decades) if I switched, which on the one hand as a hobby photographer would blow my budget and on the other hand would be anything but necessary because they work and deliver great photos.

  • @AllThingsFilm1
    @AllThingsFilm1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Yea, that HDMI port issue is pretty weird. But, for me, I would most likely use the R50 as a travel / vlog / or TH-cam camera. Which the flip out screen would be fine for the most part. I still keep my eyes on Canon cameras because they provide great skin tones. But, the fact that Canon only allows 3rd party manual focus lenses, is still a problem for me. More people would use Canon, I believe, if they had more 3rd party lens support with AF.

  • @BlueRobotMiner

    The thing about doing a video with this camera is that most times when using a monitor and the HDMI cable is connected on the grip side, the mount should be used either to hold the camera to for a tripod. also, with the monitor use, sound is connected which makes for more connections to get in the way of holding the camera. Third party lenses are now being allowed to make lens mounts for the R camera bodies. Yes AF is allowed but IS is not yet available.

    On that HDMI port location: what's crazy is that the Canon R8 (the camera I use) isn't much bigger than the R50, yet it does not have the HDMI port on the grip side, rather the side opposite of the grip. Also, very small grip, very few buttons and dials (exactly as M50; but Canon's great touchscreen interface makes up for that partially). And atrocious photo buffer.
    All in all, pro's that want a tiny Canon camera to use (and that won't get an RP or R8 for that purpose) will get the R10, simply the cheapest Canon that is great at usability (joystick at that price point is a killer feature).
    However, comparing with how junk the 2000D and 4000D are (don't ask me how T8i or Tsi etc. b.s. naming scheme for the US they were called...) and with the earlier low-tier M models, there is still room in the Canon APS-C RF range for entry-level: a camera with a fixed screen and/or, no viewfinder, low build quality, (worse sensor?) and lower price.

    • @FoxTailWhipz

      I think the R10 is great as a second body, while the R50 is great for first time mirrorless owners! I would honestly be surprised to see a lower priced R mount camera. I’ll be pumped if it does happen though!

    Hi there! Loving your Canon R50 content and loving your channel in general. I know the sigma 16mm rf mount is coming, but what are some other good budget lens options for video background blur on the R50?

  • @matthewdrexler188
    @matthewdrexler188 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think they assume since the camera is small anyway and alot people (especially with big hands) have complaints about their entire hand not fitting on the grip that most people who mount additional hardware to the camera body would most likely be using some sort of tripod mount grip or something for better stability holding the camera, since the grip is small and not very good for people with big hands. So maybe thats why they designed that part so stupidly lol
    Also because its marketed toward beginners who probably don't have and wont invest thousands of dollars in 3rd party flashes lenses and everything else a pro photographer would need. Than it doesn't really hurt the consumer to make the components propitiatory.
    As someone who has no camera gear myself and are just looking for a good video camera on a budget none of these issues are a deal breaker for me especially since I only want something slightly nicer than a powershot for when i go hiking to take pictured of the woods n stuff. However If I already had all different accessories and needed to work long hours recording I def wouldn't get this and get maybe something more high end and more compatible with industry standard equipment.
    This video was very helpful and informed me about the different types of intentions certain cameras are designed for, thank you.

The hot mount shoe thing is just frustrating considering you were using a 800d or 77d and you're looking to up your video footage while still using flash accessories for photography.

    • @Bunta1987qwerty
      @Bunta1987qwerty ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the heat in cameras comes from encoding while it writes to the SD card, so probably not an issue as a webcam, but I don’t own one so I can’t say for certain.

    • @Fire32Ball
      @Fire32Ball 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When using as a Webcam in 1080p in a 70*F room, it showed 1 bar on the temperature gage after over an hour. This was with a canon battery installed, so it added heat. I don't think it would overheat at all at 1080p 60fps even unless you were in a hot climate in direct sunlight.

    Because this camera is targeted at content creators many of the ‘issues’ raised about it either do not apply or apply in only isolated circumstances. For example, very few, if any content creators will be using this camera with a monitor. Additionally, content creators would scarcely have need of longer recording times than what this camera is capable of-the R50 isn’t designed for interview recordings, events or anything of that nature. I think people buying this camera are, for the most part, aware of what they’re getting themselves into.

    Solve the HDMI "problem" with a cage+grip.
    This year Canon is starting slowly to allow 3rd party lenses.
    If you're buying this camera for 4K, don't. Unless you're doing small 15 min clips and letting the camera cool down.
    3rd party batteries need to be decoded so you can charge them. If the battery can't be charged by Canon charger, it won't charge on camera either.
