    Julie, I grew up on a farm. My dear sweet mother raised 8 kids and we all had to work. Mom worked harder than any of us, as you know being a mom. Pressure canning was her passion as well as harvesting our crops. I believe it's a mothers instinct, in their DNA to do what no one else can. Love your channel and everything you and Martin do. You both have a great family and one day you will receive your rewards. Thanks for all your channel teaches us. Work hard, work together, and always be thankful. You all do this in every episode. God Bless you and your Family.

    Hi - I have worked with water wells (we call them boreholes here in S Africa) for over 45years... Watching your channel has given me an appreciation for how things are done with frost lines... I have had fun reading up on installations in the snow belt and have learnt something new... Well done the Johnson family....

    Jules - don't be nervous. 15 PSI is the operating pressure of a standard car radiator. Your home water heater is 3 or 4 times that. My mother canned with a pressure cooker for years, never had a problem. My wife uses one all the time There is a safety relief on the vessel to limit the pressure and relieve it if needed, but that is something that is seldom seen.

    Martin, when you purchase anything made from metal, like drill bits, the common denominator with the pricing is usually determined by the amount of cobalt iron in the steel. The more that there is, the longer it wears and lasts. Sometimes manufacturers try to entice you into purchasing with some gimmick they pitch, so be careful about what you buy.

    Just a thought. Run a toner wire with the water line and power line. This will be a way to trace the lines in the future if needed. Run it on the outside of the conduit. 12 awg wire for tracing/toning wire.

    • @MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving
      @MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The inspector said if we run the electrical in the same trench as the water line that is all that is needed. They can use it to trace the line. What do you think?

      @@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving you could, though me my self i would want something that they just can conect to away from power and it be on the out side of everything. peace of mind is what i call it. i know wire has gone up in price. also look at it this way, if you wanted to trace it you have a conection yourself. this is also good to do with lpg gas lines under ground

    Hi guys there’s a couple of questions I would like to ask you first you should check out the water set up that has been done on life uncontained,they have a rain water catchment system that supplies them with all their purified water needs ,you could unearth your water tank and move it next to your shed and use it to store all your rain water which can then be use to water your garden and any vehicles . Second at the start of your adventure you had another teenager called Brittney,we never hear yous talk about her now

    • @MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving

    Marty when you went to buy wood & cement you should have bought a Big White Board. then Before you start a job, the night before draw a diadgam of the job and on the side the stages you need to do, Thne you wont spend hours correcting youre mistakes, and as Jules said preparing for Winter!!, Last year your water tank Froze!! why not by an Insulation Blanket, wrap the outside, and while you have the excavator dig up the pipes and Re Wrap them in a pipe sock. Great video Thanks Editor Sarah from UK. x x

    Pressure canning is definitely something you should stick with until you learn the ins and outs and get past the fear factor. Personally I prefer the simpler pressure canner with the rocker style pressure regulator. You can drive yourself crazy trying to adjust the burner to keep the gauge reading where you think it should be. When your garden comes in you can make all sorts of tasty concoctions from cucumbers, squash and any fruit you have. Plus you can jar up meat at a lower price and better quality than store bought. That is once you’ve got your jar collection going.

But sometimes your scheduling and rework make me shake my head. If you have plans to eventually move your water cistern (tank) why not do it now as opposed to renting the excavator again, breaking into the water system a second time and having to re-clean and re-disinfect it a second time? I know you can only accomplish so much in a week and maybe that is the sole answer here, I just love to see you progress and preferably without reworking prior projects.

Also Recommend placing your lumber on top of the concrete drilling the holes with the correct size wood bits, then insert the concrete bit into holes you drilled with the wood bits

    Re-bar should only touch-bar, nothing else. You've stuck it in the sand, it'll rust and vertical bars have no lateral support just being stuck through 200mm of concrete.
    You should have had cranks on the bottom ie 90-degree bends spanning the horizontals. Keep them vertical with a diagonal if your ties aren't strong enough to keep them standing.
    Bars should be epoxied into the wall not just shoved in the hole and the joints of the horizontal bars should be staggered ie one joint each end in your case.
    Just saying, it probably won't matter here but you're doing what you can to get it right, now you know and can decide how right you need it to be.
