Marty and Julie, when I was in high school, some 50 years ago and was going steady with my girlfriend, we bought identical shirts and wore them on dates. They were known back then as "Steady Shirts". Today, as I watched you two and your apparel, it brought back many fond memories of my good times.
I am blown away by what Seth said about taking 9 to 10 hours to edit each video!! I am a photographer and after a wedding for example can have almost 2,000 images to cull, then edit and prepare for the customer, which also takes about that long. I can't imagine doing that every single day for a month!!! Such dedication, thank you!! 🙂
I've learned some valuable things watching your videos: 1. I could never survive building my own house, 2. Safety Sally is apparently a slacker and not doing her job and 3. Lipstick is an essential home-improvement tool. And through it all, I've really enjoyed watching you guys. Educational AND entertaining .... it doesn't get any better than tha.
I have to hand it to you guys, you're the only channel I've seen out of over 200 that I follow, that incorporates pushups. I feel as if I'm back in Bootcamp. However, given my age, I've exempted myself from defying gravity. Speaking of channels, don't worry, as soon as yours comes up, I watch it with one eye as I'm writing another novel with the other. I like it that you move the action along, after all who wants to watch you put up every piece of insulation,, then seeing you start the job and jumping to the finish keeps us from yawning off. Nice editing and video layovers and all the work you put into this. Major Kudos....
I smiled when I saw the title about why women may live longer than men. I have been watching some of the very first videos you put out about JAVA rides . Martin if you survived driving a scooter in that insane traffic mess in Indonesia, you can survive just about anything! And, also on that note, you mentioned 5 things most people don't know about Indonesia. I was unaware of the coffee . Being a coffee drinker, I went to the store today and bought some Fair Trade Organic Sumatra coffee. I am anxious to try it out! Keep up the good work. I enjoy watching your videos. I had no idea how much time is spent editing...wow! Your family reflects the love of God in each of you.
@13:55 We come for Martin's expertise, but Julie definitely sets the mood and energy. Without Julie, there would only be 10% of the viewers 🤭 Team effort 💪
WOW! 6-10 hrs per video. That is a full time job. Lumnah Acres seems to have a pretty well organized farm. Perhaps, you could reach out to Al and Gina for tips. Thanks for sharing
Snow falls are much better appreciated in other people's backyards, when viewed from a comfortable situation. That said, your video of the location looks wonderfully seasonal, when viewed remotely.
It’s amazing how much time goes into filming then editing the videos. Thank you for your dedication to bringing us such enjoyable videos. You seem to really love the snow and I love seeing fresh snow and the sense of peace it brings. I do not like being cold though so any time out in the snow is short for me. Where I live in the PNW we don’t see much snow so when we do get it, it’s a treat. Have a blessed day.
Editing time: it's because if a video is 20 minutes, as an editor, you get to watch that 20 minutes segment at least 5 or 6 times while stitching it together. As well, you have to fully watch all the additional shots that never got used too 🤭😀
Martin please have double thinks about roof furnace, I imagine some sort of servicing is required so access would be a good idea, its very up to you but in the upper corner at the rear of the shop in an accessible aired cupboard would have been a suggestion. Cheers for vids happy times from Devon 🏴
Martin has mentioned couple times now, that they were going to put the furnace in a closet at the entrance, but the mechanic said it would be better in the attic, because that is standard, and the mechanic designed all the plans to take advantage of the attic. They're going to have a trap-door to access the furnace, which will only require manually removing a piece of insulation to access. At this point, it would not be feasible to change the location as all the air ducts have been cut and secured at the current location.
Wow😲 you guys are ripping right through the insulation and drywalling... Way to go... Congrats Seth on getting your permit... 48 out of 50... That's a A+ in my book...! Good Job...! Also Nice Job everyone on doing your parts on the video... That's a lot of work on the editing too btw Seth...! Good Job...!
About having animals on your property, I suggest contacting the folks at Good Simple Living, and/ or Wild Wonderful off grid. I think they could help a lot. Both are homesteading and raising wild stock.
Hello Yvonne from Texas, love to see the snow in the back just wanted to let y'all know that I think both of you are the Stars of the show & Drive Safely Seth🚘.
I would suggest taking a look at our alumina known as “Lumina acres“. Go into some of his older videos with he’s not doing construction and you’ll see how well his place is laid out. Be sure to check summertime raising of chickens. He does the quick growing freezer chickens but go hatch to freezer ready 6 to 8 pounds in about 12 weeks. He has “chicken tractors“ but he puts the little chicks after the Bruder into them moves daily or every other day until they go into the freezer. He has it very well organized. He also does a couple of pigs, and of course his goats. They share the mama goat with the baby goat so they only have to milk once a day. I like the fact that he’s very strict about keeping the daddy goats in a completely different pen until he’s ready for breeding season. That way you know exactly when to expect baby goats (I think it’s five months pregnancy).
110% agree! They're amazing and have really optimized their process. In reality it's a day in and day out operation of the same thing over and over. We use the 'it all flows downhill' method. Essentially our 'high end' food (living/walking food) gets first attention every day. All the biproducts goes down from there to the garden. Nothing ever goes to waste. Rabbits are a huge bonus IMHO. Best animals I've found to date :)
If you're referring to Al, Gina, and Olivia, is "Lumnah Acres", I believe is who you're thinking about. They are very organized and have a great farmstead building a new 500 acre off grid homestead as well.
You’re all doing an excellent job producing videos everyday for this month as well as push ups every day. That’s a lot of work its awesome thanks a lot. I’ve been watching your videos for over 2 years now love it. Thank you family it’s awesome love it.
Cog Hill Farm, at the old Cog Hill, had quite a few animals tucked into a small space. Good Simple Living had quite a bit tucked into a (large) residential lot before they moved onto Idaho.
Congratulations Seth on the permit. Good job man. Jules, you are really rocking it on those pushups. You are doing a fantastic jog. Real pro! Marty, you are doing a fantastic job on everything too. Love you all and love your videos.
I do enjoy your videos and I know it’s greedy of me but I’m sure more than one think the same as I do. The every day videos are AWESOME and greatly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and keep smiling!!!!
Congrats Jules, you went through all 14 and didn't look like you were straining at all. Might want to look into continuing into January. You go GIRL! Mike
Congrats Seff,!! Has Sarah got hers??. Maybe Marty you can buy Jules a Toolbelt for Christmas, for the future fixings. trying to put up Insulation with a stapler in youre hand No fun. are you going to Stop working for a couple of days over Christmas?? In UK building firms shutdown on the 24th, and come back on January 3rd, Schools close this weekend, and come back 2nd week in January. Great job on pushups Jules did them right, and dog seems to have realised what you are doing!!. Thanks for the video from UK x x
I think you all contribute to quality videos so I wouldn’t exactly call anyone a star.. that being said I’m constantly impressed with Julie mostly because she takes on tasks that women don’t usually do.. oddly they are the very same tasks men are expected to do though... but she has courage...and she did great with her push-ups today
Here's an energy saving tip. If you can find an old, out of service chest freezer put it outside in the shade. Pack it with some snow and use it a a frig alternative for the next 3 months or so, In the summer it can be a good critter proof storage for chicken feed, etc if in the shade. Plus every good country house needs some broken down appliances and a ratty old outdoor couch for ambience.
I would suggest Cog Hill Farm - I think you would really enjoy Jason, Brooke and MaryCarl. They just recently left their small farm, and have re-settled on 40 acres. They are building a new home (not off grid, but a barndominium, using a contractor for the metal shell) - they are currently living in a travel trailer on site.
From Wisconsin we love all your posts keep it going. Love the idea of posting one each day which is a extremely time consuming project, Keep it up and we will continue to promote you as much as we can.
I noticed that Julie is getting better at the push ups. And I think you should get Tux (sp?) a puppy to keep him company when he's playing and running around the property.
Standing the sheetrock vertically on the Tractor forks will work for 12 feet high. Will need to fashion a stop on the forks to prevent slipping off the front. Rent a Hay Conveyor would work as well.
joel salatin, justin rhodes, lumnah acres are good for organization, regenerative farming... roots and refuge is also good but they've just moved and are starting to build new... great tips for building and known for gardening mostly.
Really enjoy your videos. I like your off grid power set up. High quality components. We are grid tied but one thing I've learned about solar power is that the system really improves in low sun conditions if you oversize the array over the rest of the system. The batteries, inverter/charger are all expensive but the panels are more reasonably priced. We max out our inverter in full sun, but morning , evening and low sun conditions we take advantage of the oversized array. The panels are really the cheapest components. That might help you make a little power on cloudy days. Also I use a long handle pool brush to clean panels when it snows. Rare here in North Texas. Keep up the good work!
Is the floor insulated too (I guess it would be the garage ceiling)...? I don't remember if you added insulation in the floor 🤷♂️ Seems like it would be a big heat-loss, especially with the garage door open.
Great job Marty on closing in the furnace, it was a eight area to work, also Jules is doing fantastic as always, no job is too difficult for Jules. Now that you mentioned Sarah, when is Sarah coming back?? I miss Sarah, she has the cutest laughter. God Bless to you all.
Have lamahcas goats. Because they don't have the ears and they don't freeze off. And they are great milkers and good meat goats. They are from I think from Oregon or maybe Washington I'm not too sure but that's where the breed started from. That is awesome. That he passed his driving test. Yahoo. Oh the goat pooh can be used for fertilizer. Also rabbit pooh. And rabbits are very great for up in your environment.
Insulation was one of those jobs I was glad to leave for the pros to do. There is a lot of planning behind ordering, delivering, and insulating a large project. I did a conservative rough estimate for my 28x48 garage with 12' ceilings and finished attic above with vaulted ceilings and figured minimum $5K in fiberglass insulation alone, no fire block, no calking, no Proper Vents. The pros came in double that at $10K but their bid included blown fiberglass which gave me a higher R value in my vaulted ceilings and their product is superior to the big box store, for example the fiberglass bats they installed were R21 while my estimates only accounted for R19 bats in the walls. Their bid was for everything, Polly vapor barrier calked all the seams, fire block, proper vents...etc... it took two crews of guys to finish the job in two days. I was quite happy I did not have to touch the stuff... It would have taken me two weeks and there was no way I could have done a better job than them, plus they did all the planning, delivery and finding the material needed to do the job right. I can say I did all my plumbing, wiring, even sheet rock, but I say leave insulating to the pros you will not regret it.
Good job guys. The end goal of 30-31 pushups in a single set is a far more massive task than one thinks. This is why correct pushup form is so critical. Poor form pushups are always harder to do than good form pushups because the poor form doesn't maximize leverage using the correct muscles. The single easiest tip to properly get you hand placement correct is start out laying flat on your belly with hands comfortably beneath your shoulders. Once set, use your legs to change to prone position to start. Tip - the downstroke of the pushup can stop above the ground at about the width of a hand (max 6" [more than diameter of baseball, less than a softball]) before pushing back up. The muscles that are benefited by pushups most are the triceps, shoulders, deltoids, and pectoral muscles. When there's poor form, the biceps are far more heavily used as the biceps are normally used to ease you lowering yourself down and the symphony of the others (mostly triceps in the back) to do the heavy lifting back up. None of you realize it, but you instinctually knew when you have good form as noted by post pushup gigglling after implementing poor form when done. If you giggle your intuition is telling you you could have done better. Compare that to the good pushups on this video that didn't exhibit any post pushup giggling. I appreciate this channel for the good spirit/attitude. It isn't often you watch a YT channel that regularly demonstrates this. Good job guys.
7:20 - Safety Sally in charge of cleanup? 🤣 Did y'all cover up the heat and air duct in the bedroom by any chance? Oh my gosh the pushups are getting harder and harder to do. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm impressed with Julie doing them the regular way. Great job to everyone who is doing the pushups this month! I hope we all keep it up after December.
Congratulations on the permit Seth! Question on the apartment, are you going to be insulating the garage ceiling or did I manage to miss that one? Pretty sure that would go a long way towards keeping the heat where you want it!
Just A Few Acres Farm blog pretty well sets up sustainable farm practices from birthing to market. Lots of financial calculations for cows, pigs, turkeys, chicken roasters, and eggs.
Also when it comes to the Garage with Living Quarters above, there is a specific Code involved for sealing it off 100 % from Carbon Monoxide from below.
Good job Julie on the 14 pushups. And Julie is the star of the channel in my mind. Sorry Martin. Good job on your driving permit Seth. Thanks for sharing day #14.
Justin Rhodes for some of what you’re looking for and Roots and Refuge Farm, they recently moved to a bigger homestead farm, so they’re kinda starting over with plans for placement of their animals, also, Just A Few Acres Farm, Pete’s always got good advice, especially with raising cows.
Check out Justin Rhodes farming and gardening. Scale some of their stuff down and have multiple uses for a greenhouse and small barn you can grow your own food year round. Off grid with Doug and Stacy has some awesome offgrid tips as well. Fermenting food is a great way to preserve.
Lumnah acers , their animals and gardens are very organized and nice ! Sow the land Cog hill farms (check out their new land set-up) Hidden Heights farm Justin rhoads
I personally have worked for a hog producer that raises hogs for a company out of Iowa, It was originally designed for missouri farm assionation - MFA corp back in the 1970's. We feed 1100 head of feeder pigs at a time on ration. All natural outside on concrete / dirt lots. We had 8 big consent huts for the sows/boars , then we had single stalls for the piggy sows and then smaller lots for the feeder pigs. The biggest suggestion i can say is design your set up so your not having to backtrack on location. Have good size pens. We had the sows on the far left side of the lot and weined them to the next lots and then to the final feeding floor to the right. The load out pen with a ramp on the right. A lot of times people make the set where they having to move their livestock lots where they move them from 1 lot on the far left, then move to the far right pen and then to the middle lot. Less distance means less stress on the animals and way more less stress on yourself. Hopefully that makes sense. Love your build and what your doing. Lastly want to make sure where you put them is in area, where you can get to them in all seasons including dead of winter with the snow and muddy season in spring.
Good afternoon Johnson family!👋 Things are coming along great! Congratations Seth on your permit & doing the editing of the videos. Julie I admire you doing push ups, I was never able to do them. Everything is looking so good & awesome 1 day closer to getting err done! God Bless you all take care till next time 🕊👋🇺🇲🎄❄⛄
Since you put your heat registers in the ceiling I would you plan to install some ceiling fans to push it down otherwise most of heated air will just be up by the ceiling.
Doing good. Don't feel bad Julie...my tools scatter themselves between the house, shop and camp. They're hard to keep track of. Maybe when you get a chance you can get or convert your generator to propane and connect to the bulk tank. It's nice not to mess with gasoline. Congrads on the permit too. I remember that day....and why are you not behind the wheel?
Congratulations on completing the insulation and getting heat online. Seth your one cool operator congratulations! BTW I ran over the curb doing my driver test during the 3point turn our land Yacht Ford Mercury Monterey. In the day light with no snow. I realized after I could do more than 3 points 😑
I would definitely take a look at perma pastures farms, justin rhodes and renewed homestead if you want to rotational graze your animals and build soil health
Have you thought about going to a propane generator now that you have propane on site. Maybe you could make one auto start when your battery is good to a low cut off.
Marty and Julie, when I was in high school, some 50 years ago and was going steady with my girlfriend, we bought identical shirts and wore them on dates. They were known back then as "Steady Shirts". Today, as I watched you two and your apparel, it brought back many fond memories of my good times.
You all have a starring role. Congratulations Seth!
I am blown away by what Seth said about taking 9 to 10 hours to edit each video!!
Well done Seth on the permit, I never had any doubts. Now you just need to keep them two parents of yours in check.
Good family work
Congrats Seth 🚘👌
Congrats Seth!!
I hope you guys took Seth for a Burger!!
Please send the snow down east to Colorado please!!
I think Living Tradition Homestead is a very organized farm.
Congratulations seth. Dont forget once you insulate the garage ceiling you will get more heat retention too

By year 5, I think Julie will be tired of the shovelling 🤭
It’s amazing how much time goes into filming then editing the videos. Thank you for your dedication to bringing us such enjoyable videos. Lumnah Acres is another one at that. They're actually building a second homestead right now too.
off grid with Doug and Stacy, Cog Hill family farm... theres a multitude of them out here but he knows that already lol

Yes, I agree… they refer to themselves as Modernsteader. Very organized.
Definitely Lumnah Acres.
You’re all doing an excellent job producing videos everyday for this month as well as push ups every day. That’s a lot of work its awesome thanks a lot. I’ve been watching your videos for over 2 years now love it. Thank you family it’s awesome love it.
Well done Seth! Congratulations. Also great to see everyone's energy this December: its real hard work.
Small tip for the ice, if you use lawn fertilizer instead of salt it will not hurt your lumber or ground. In most cases it is cheaper
Cog Hill Farm, at the old Cog Hill, had quite a few animals tucked into a small space. Good Simple Living had quite a bit tucked into a (large) residential lot before they moved onto Idaho.
Love this content. It's wholesome, educational, and absolutely fun to watch. It's my pleasure to like and comment on your stuff every day in December.
Cog Hill Farm is the best organized cleanest form of seen on TH-cam yet
Congratulations Seth on the permit. Good job man. Jules, you are really rocking it on those pushups. You are doing a fantastic jog. Real pro! Marty, you are doing a fantastic job on everything too. Love you all and love your videos.

Roots and Refuge Farm is another great channel. Having recently relocated from Arkansas to South Carolina they are designing.

Congratulations Seth. Welcome to the road.
Did y'all cover up the heat and air duct in the bedroom by any chance?
Oh my gosh the pushups are getting harder and harder to do. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm impressed with Julie doing them the regular way. Great job to everyone who is doing the pushups this month! I hope we all keep it up after December.
Julie go to cog hill their farm was great.and they just moved and starting a new bigger farm.very organized.
Laurel brook Farm in East Canaan Ct is the cleanest farm I have ever seen ..
Congratulations on the permit Seth! Question on the apartment, are you going to be insulating the garage ceiling or did I manage to miss that one? Pretty sure that would go a long way towards keeping the heat where you want it!
Way to go Seth !!!!!!! And........I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all of your daily videos.....Merry Christmas...
Actually think you might start a new fashion trend with wide turned up cuffs🥰
I have not been following long but in my opinion you Two make an awesome Couple and I enjoy what is brought to the Table!
If you guys plan to have any network or antenna connections, put those cables before you close in the walls with sheetrock!
I saw Brandi & Dutch do their push ups yest. 👍 enjoy your snow 😉❄⛄
Lumnah Acres ..on youtube, they have a cool set up, just an idea
Justin Rhodes for some of what you’re looking for and Roots and Refuge Farm, they recently moved to a bigger homestead farm, so they’re kinda starting over with plans for placement of their animals, also, Just A Few Acres Farm, Pete’s always got good advice, especially with raising cows.
I know that these videos are not very easy to do but thank you thank you thank you for what you do to get them published cause I appreciate it.
Thanks for answering my question. Great team effort. That is a lot of editing! Wow 😮
I think Tux is the real star. 😂
Check out Justin Rhodes farming and gardening. Scale some of their stuff down and have multiple uses for a greenhouse and small barn you can grow your own food year round. Off grid with Doug and Stacy has some awesome offgrid tips as well. Fermenting food is a great way to preserve.
Congrats Seth for your permit
Living traditions homestead, has a few different types of animals and show a lot of care and processing of same.
WOW - u rock Julie with 14 push ups
Jules is really getting pretty good with pushups!

Congrats Seth! Nice progress Folks!!!
Congratulations Seth. Well done
Congratulation Seth keep smiling 😃 😊 🙂 😀
Congratulations on your permit Seth ' well done mate x
Insulation is cheap energy costs just keep climbing. My opinion love you guys.
I think you all do a great job. I haven’t missed one and have learned a lot.
You all are really rockin it!! Congrats Seth on superb night driving skills and great editing!!!!!!
👍👏🇱🇷
Good afternoon Johnson family!👋 Things are coming along great! Congratations Seth on your permit & doing the editing of the videos. Julie I admire you doing push ups, I was never able to do them.
Everything is looking so good & awesome 1 day closer to getting err done! God Bless you all take care till next time 🕊👋🇺🇲🎄❄⛄
Since you put your heat registers in the ceiling I would you plan to install some ceiling fans to push it down otherwise most of heated air will just be up by the ceiling.
Merry Christmas to your Blessed Family
Red Poppy Ranch & Lumnah acers
Congratulations on completing the insulation and getting heat online. Seth your one cool operator congratulations! BTW I ran over the curb doing my driver test during the 3point turn our land Yacht Ford Mercury Monterey. In the day light with no snow. I realized after I could do more than 3 points 😑
on your stairs at night rill some plastic down them and if it snows you can put for may help you
I watch some other channels that are on farming and I know one of them does no editing and you can tell but I like it just as much as any other
I would definitely take a look at perma pastures farms, justin rhodes and renewed homestead if you want to rotational graze your animals and build soil health
Have you thought about going to a propane generator now that you have propane on site. Maybe you could make one auto start when your battery is good to a low cut off.
