I never knew Jeff was on the drums until I saw this. Of course the entire Porcaro family were musical greats. I've been singing some Karaoke for quite a while and I get several request for this song. People are always surprised I'm not in a band but, my talent is singing not entertaining. I love it.
He could play with anyone and make them sound a 1000x times better. His feel was amazing, his playing top notch, and just a class act all around. RIP Jeff Porcaro.
And 45 years later, he's still out on the road performing this song, and sounding every bit as good as he does here. We saw him last summer, and it was by FAR the best one of the entire season at our local amphitheater
Lido missed the boat that day, he left the shack But that was all he missed, and he ain't comin' back Them two opening lines were perfect for setting the story to this song. That shuffle by the drummer will get you moving if you have a heartbeat. Perfect for the song. The lyrics will take you on a trip. This album by Boz and Jackson Browne’s Runnin on Empty were my go to albums while in HS. Dreamed of life beyond Oklahoma and when the time came I never looked back. Thanks for posting this live version TMS. Made my Friday morning.
Still have the thank-you note (tucked into the original vinyl as a souvenir) Boz sent me for playing Silk Degrees on my radio program in '76. Still playing it to this day; great album, great guy, phenomenal musician. Really helped relieve the pain of Disco.
@@Bridging_the_Political_Divide I believe it’s Les Dudek. He and Boz had a falling out and a young Steve Lukather took over not long after to finish the tour.
Awesome performance. That night MS played 3 Boz Scaggs songs (on film), including: "Lowdown," "Lido Shuffle" & "Balloons". Hopefully the other 2 songs will also be shown before the weekly full episode airing. Thanks M.S.!
Good to see a bunch of musicians in here digging' this great clip, and the talent that is playing the song(s). Ya man, this album got major rotation in the 70's. Little did we realize we had it so good musically. Absolutely a fertile musical atmosphere back then... Look what we have today! That's why we're still listening to the old jems like this!!
Boz was a big part of the best summer of my life. This song really brings it all back. 1979, working up in northern Alberta. Good friends, beautiful girls and great adventures.
Jeff Porcaro makes this song!! I listened to a later live version from 1978 without Jeff and it sounds completely flat and boring. Then you listen to this!! Amazing shuffle pocket. Such energy on the fills! He really was a master of his craft. Just incredible. I wish we had gotten to enjoy his drumming for more years.
No it's not lol. People still love to perform and are phenomenal. Is there something in the fluoride that makes boomers say this disparaging crap? You were just another generation.
Magnificient! The song, the performance, the backing band (some of the Toto members). Truly awesome. Wish there was a full length video/audio of a complete show
The biggest surprise for me was seeing Les Dudek on the Les Paul. Not only did Boz produce the subsequent Toto debut album, he also produced Les’ first album that showcased his incredible writing and guitar skills and yes, the same Porcaro crew backed Les as well. “Old Judge Jones” was a minor hit and got lots of AOR station airplay. It has an incredible lyric and is an incredibly well crafted tune.
The remarkable thing about Boz Skaggs is he is always AT LEAST as cool as the coolest person going at the time. Like, Joe Strummer in 1979? Boz was that cool. Always. What a dude!
This video brings back so many Wonderful memories of the Good Ol' Days! ❤ Love this song! He had such a unique tone to his voice! Happy Friday 🥳 Thank you for sharing! 💖

They STARTED Toto along with David Paich and Steve Lukather. All from a suggestion by Boz. Paich and Lukather have both said that Toto was Jeff Porcaro’s band several times, he was the glue and driving force behind their sound.

Wow. If I had to pick the single song in my life that means the most to me it would be Lido Shuffle. Memories of 2 glorious summers in 1976 and 1977 while at 6th form. I remember the last day of our final term, after we had finished our exams, a group of us were in a pub (in the UK). In those days if you wanted music you had to put money into a jukebox so we piled a load of money into the jukebox to queue up some songs to get the mood going. What was the first song we selected? Lido Shuffle. Unfortunately for everyone else in the pub that evening it was also the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth song as well. We were not popular with the rest of the clientele that night. If anyone was in a pub in a beautiful city in northern England one June night in 1977 when a bunch of rowdy schoolboys were dancing around to Lido Shuffle played 6 times in a row, I’m older and more considerate now so …. sorry …. but surely you have to admit that Boz is as good as it gets.
One of my favourite radio hits of 1977. Driving rhythm, with a cool vibe enhanced by street-slang lyrics. Backing musicians for the studio recording included several members of the Wrecking Crew collective (Louis Shelton, Jim Horn, Dick Hyde and Bud Shank).
