I saw him a couple of times with the James Gang at the Long Beach Arena, and in 1973 with ROBIN TROWER and WISHBONE ASH at the Santa Monica Civic, man, those WERE great times to be a ROCK fan, it seemed like EVERY night we'd be at a killer show in L. A., so glad that I grew up there back in the 60's, 70's and 80's, when REAL ROCK music ruled the world!
Right on. Sad about the so-called music of today.
Wow! Had to be one of the best concerts ever🤯
Damn you're a very lucky guy!
Still is dude
There actually ARE good things about being 70 years old, and one is that we did live through a great time for music, and stuff was reasonably priced back then, I saw BLIND FAITH, DELANEY AND BONNIE and FREE at the L. A. Forum with money I scrounged from taking back Coke bottles to the market! I saw world class, life-threatening shows for less than it costs for a HAMBURGER now! You actually COULD go see a show, get gas, a pinch of weed, park your car there, and get at soda at the show for less than $15.00. It was nothing to see concerts almost every night, everybody would pitch in together, folks can make fun of the spirit of the '60's and '70's, but I wouldn't trade those times for even another 30 years or so of living now!@@vanzandt8809
Joe Walsh is a gift from God. A national treasure.
I wanna know who produced his records to sound quirky, bleepy, and funny instead of this rich wonderful sound.
Very underrated! Definitely one of the best slide guitarists ever! I play guitar and try a little slide. He makes it look and sound effortless. I make it sound like crap!
I’d say Joe Walsh is a gift from Joe Walsh.
Life's been good to him
I agree with the man ho said Joe is great to listen to ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ill never forget 1970's radio 📻 how lucky we were to have these greats to listen to.
Have never viewed this sweet high quality vintage footage of Joe Walsh, playing Rocky Mountain Way. Love this era. Solid band. Thank you, Midnight Special.
@musicalSFCat - and this was network TV - free!
The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get is a fantastic album, Rocky Mountain Way song is why I bought the album when it came out. I love Joe Walsh, he’s a fantastic musician and slideee/talk box player. He’s so handsome here in his black-sparkly outfit too, whew, what’s not to like?!💫♥️💫
Right?! Don't think I've ever seen Joe in something sparkly!🎶
Those amps sound like they are absolutely wrecked, and what a great sound it is.
When I saw him do that outdoors that year, he was using all old Les Pauls and a Marshall half stack
James gang / barnstorm / solo / eagles! He was hitting on all cylinders in the 70’s! What a great time to be a musician ! Space ace Ron ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Got to hear this one live about ten days ago. It was one of the encores at The Eagles concert at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Joe still has it. Thanks for posting.
Man , have you seen the size of Joe Walsh ' s hands ? They are like shovels ! No wonder he can play the geetar like a demon ? Chords will be doddle to him with those paws? Love it .....he also has the quite brilliant Joe Vitale on drums ....how could you possibly fail ?
There’s an old saying that the camera adds 10lbs. Lens distortion.
Kenny Passarelli on bass.
@@icecreamforcrowhurst to his fingers ? lol....
Joe was great with the James Gang and the Eagles but I really prefer his
solo songs the best Thank You.
🎵🎶🎼🎸🎸🎤🎹🥁🎼🎶🎵
I think he was sanitised by the Eagles……. I like this version of him
I agree mostly, but "James Gang Rides Again" is a fantastic album!
As good as he was/is with The Eagles, Joe was at his best as a solo artist in the early 70s. Thanks for all the great music!
Absolutely one of the greatest guitarists to ever shred! 👍👍add infinitum!!!
Nasty. This guy is a complete legend.
Been listening to his music and other greats from the best generation of music for 60 something years. We grew up with the best and this is one of them!❤
50 years 😮
This just took 50 years off my life! I'm 60.❤

What a way to start a perfect Thanksgiving day, with a little vintage Joe Walsh. Love this song. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
Happy Thanksgiving! Agreed!
Back at ya!
He and Mark Knopfler are the most underrated musicians ever
As a huge fan I think Joe's personality sometimes overshadowed his talents. Admittedly not the greatest guitarist ever but you could at least bring him into the conversation
Making Movies is just incredible. A masterpiece.
some respect and credit being in 'the eagles'
@@williamchiafos3889 There are truly great guitarists out there, but do the make MUSIC? Yngwie Malmsteen as an example.
How tf is Knopfler underrated?!
Joe's a boss
Sir, yes sir!!👍❤️👍
Indeed. THE SH;+ no Questions asked. This kicked off my early morning turkey day cooking. 🔥
Indeed he is
Actually, Joe is THE boss!
LOVE Joe Walsh!!
Love this footage, so many fun things to take in, back in the days when rock stars dressed like rock stars or maybe like a country star in Joe's case, lol, interesting band with the two keyboardists one on grand piano, always loved his slide playing, too bad this didn't include the squawk box like Frampton's but still a great, truly live performance of an iconic song!
Check out the brown shoes. Black suit with sequins then the shoes
That's the way it's done!
Happy Thursday... thank you for sharing! 💖
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
For sure. Amazing how perfect this was live! (And how great he still performs after all these years!)
Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
@rmz5667 Did you ever see The Tribute to The Beatles that Joe Walsh, Dhani Harrison, and Jeff Lynne did together? It's perfection... I love it almost, if not better than the original
Joe Walsh, Jeff Lynne, & Dhanni Harrison (Tribute to the Beatles, 2014) Posted by: Edu Seijus.
Thank you, I will! 🦃
Definitely beyond cool, whole other level
Playing and singing...no lip sync bullshit. Love it
Very nice and precise slide playing. Joe was on his game!
He's one one guy often overlooked for his considerable guitar prowess, probably because his famously impish sense of humor tends to take the limelight from his outstanding skill on not just guitar, but as a multi-instrumentalist.
@@Gunners_Mate_Guns what else does he play?
@@eric_in_florida He plays keyboards and synths.
That's him doing the distinctive keys for "New Kid in Town," as but one example.
He also plays the synths and piano on "Pretty Maids All in a Row," although there are other songs on which he plays synth.
This is my favourite song 🎵
I saw the Eagles at the Gorge at George one summer maybe 15 years ago or so. Terrific show. I don’t go to concerts anymore because I just can’t stand the crowds. But if you’re going to see a band that’s a great place to go because of the scenery.
Nice one
Timeless!
Absolutely stellar performance. Joe’s a true riff master.
I loved Joe's barnstorm band. To me those were his best songs, music.
Agreed. All great musicians! Walsh, Joe Vitale and Kenny Passerelli where the American Cream. It's sad that no matter how they tried, the label or management would always go back to Joe Walsh for name recognition I guess.
Rock n Roll Masterpiece. so much going on in this video.
One of the most BADASS songs ever written!!!
So awesome!!!! Joe's tone!!!!!!!
Legend....👏👏🔊🔊
No special affects. No fires. No special dresses . just pure rock and roll . thanks Joe
Yeah, that outfit he is wearing is something he bought off of the rack at K Mart. Nothing special about it at all!😂😂😂😂
Yea and I’ve always liked his voice. Unique. Distinctive. Immediately recognized.
His cool stand out glitter! Still stylish in 2024!
Why is this man not in rock & roll HOF as a solo artist???
Because he never even had a top 10 hit as a solo artist.
@@scottlarson1548 😅
@@scottlarson1548who cares about that there has been plenty of horrible music in the top 10 I would rather listen to Joe
@@debbiekelley7899 Who cares about that? Well, the people who select which artists go into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame care about that and they don't care who you would rather listen to.
@@scottlarson1548and those people who select who goes in don't have a clue like you
One of the MOST underrated lead guitar players of all time PERIOD everybody talks about Eddie Van Halen and Stevie Ray but this guy is the bomb
Stevie Ray was a cut above, though.
I agree. My honest theory is his personality always walked into the room before his guitar did and therefore overlooked AS a guitar player. Same I believe with Stephen Stills. Both very talented guitar players that never quite got the credit they deserved
Go on any music video on the internet and somebody is crying about somebody being underrated. Here we sit 50 years later watching him.. isn’t he now lead guitarist of the most successful band in American history ( Eagles). What exacting is underrated?
@@broncobrian2344 no, go away
@fa17hpatriqt2.0 as one of my favorites Walsh doesn't quite get the recognition as a guitar player I believe because his personality sometimes overshadowed it. I would have to add Stills to this list as he doesn't quite get the credit either.
I might’ve only been 4 years old back in 1973 when this happened but take me back there right now! Rock-and-roll will never die! Still sounds Amazing on 11-29-2023🤘🤘
I have been counting the days that I would see this again! Super Bonus-Joe Vitale on drums!
Joe walsh is the best. 🎸
Joe Walsh looked 76 even at 26. But remains one of my favourite American musicians for sure. Legend.
No way! He's a doll here! 😍 😁😍
What?
Joe’s, one hot tamale!! 😍🤩🥵
Really impressed with how great the recordings of these performances look and sound. Doing good work there. Also, this performance is awesome!
Yes!! I love Joe!! Hopefully you'll upload the other song, Tend My Garden, from the same episode.
Damn! That was GOOD!!
Joe vitale!! Roller Coaster Weekend!!! Lives just miles from my home.. and I live a mile from where Joe once taught guitar… that’s as close as it gets.. that’s good nuff fer me
The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get
The first album I bought with birthday money when I was 14.
Such a gnarly tone during the verses 👍
Amazing how tight, clear and clean the band played and was recorded!
R.I.P. Rocke Grace (pianist).
Awesome. Love this song
My very favorite guitarist and song writer as singer. No one had his edge since he stepped on a stage, or studio. Long live Joe Walsh!!! 😃🎵🎶🎸!
Freaking awesome fuzz tone. Godlike power.
God, I love Joe!
This song played at laser light show in SLC @1975… fantastic. Love Joe Walsh.
I love Joe Walsh's work, this performance was especially a treat. The costumes are great and the little details like the airplane are cool.
I've always appreciated Joe Vitale's tastey drumming , like on the studio version during the talk-box part when he hits that off-kilter beat . Kind of throws you , but brings you right back .
Listen to his drumming on County Fair, fantastic!
@@vegaslimoguy2376
Sure !! Or how about the fast beat of " At The Station " .
My dad's work buddies had a jam band they would get together on the weekends with the families and just make a party all weekend of it. Dad was a drummer by hobby mechanic by trade. This was one of the songs they would do. I remember as a kid setting on the couch by the band area just listening while everyone of the other kids were outside playing and the wives making dinner or other stuff. Classic 70s rock and country rock is what they played the most.
Joe Walsh is the quintessential musician and is still growing strong. My band covered this back in 75-76. One of Joe's best. Of course our band never made it sound that great 😜😆
Peak Walsh right here
Always liked him.
3:16 The original Barnstorm...
Joe Walsh - Guitar
Kenny Passarelli - Bass
Joe Vitale - Drums
Joe Vitale still plays drums in Walsh's band now, 50 years later.
Who are the two keyboard players ?
@@AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible Rocke Grace and Tommy Stephenson.
I saw the show with this performance. It was worth a second watch! 🔥 I didn’t notice the plane above them before. 😊
No, me either. I was too fixated on the candleabra.
@@gregoryduncan3067 🤣🤣 Yeah! I was like, "Oh, I hope it doesn't fall over!" Eesh!
It would have been a shame to have NBC Studios ❤️🔥 down before the completion of Season 1.
@@gregoryduncan3067 Oh, I know! I don't know what other shows were being filmed there at that time, but that would have been a disaster! 🙈
1:19 Yep that's the Barnstormer airplane, like on the album cover.😉
Thanks Joe for this song.
But the version I first heard was Triumph’s, off the Album “ Rock & Roll Machine “.
I thought it was their song. It was much heavier without the country twang etc.
At the time I thought it was the be all and end all of heavy rock riffs ever.
Interesting story, a group of guys close to my neighbourhood, set up a stage in their backyard. They had full Martial Stacks, and just went to town one evening, cranking everything to max.
They played Triumphs version of this song., it could be heard a mile away.
Really cool memory, cops broke it up after that song.
My first rock concert was Joe Walsh . Climax blues band was the opener. Next concert was Bad Company, followed by Kansas
Joe is so badass! Double pianos, and check out those bass players shoes!! I want them. Looks like they all shopped at Granny Takes a Trip. ❤ He's such a doll, too. I love his solo & James Gang work, prefer Eagles pre-Joe, but he rocked it with them, too! ❤❤❤❤❤
Man so good ...
Vocals tighter than the studio version! Go joe!
Good year ,saw him do this, not this but that.We felt good back then.
Awesome performance. Music by musicians.
Love the song and their glamour outfit 👍Typical of the 70's ❤From 🇫🇷 🎶
I love this channel, Joe is a legend
so we got Joe Walsh, ❤and of course the Triumph version which I prefer because I'm a head banger while I used to be ha ha ha ha ha I'm old now!
Superstar!
Good clip. I'll have a celebratory Red Bull just for TMS today. 🦃🎉
Boy, how legendary was this show?! What a performance! I’m so glad you started this channel, Midnight Special.
Joe doesn't get enough song writing credit he has some good songs. THIRDS/ JANES GANG has some of my favorite Walsh songs
Kudos,to the Midnight Special for putting on a stellar performance from an iconic and amazing rock legend 🎉🎉
I was 14 when this show aired, they fidnt get the huge bands often, I'd wait every week to see them, 1977 i saw the eagles, grest libe band, the again in 1981.
What makes a great Rock and roll star is not how great he plays the guitar or how great he sings it is about relatibility. Joe Walsh wrote great music that everyone could relate to and aspiring musicians could play, Perhaps not as good but play none the less. Joe was a great American musician that should be respected and adored by all music lovers
Saw him live (still have ticket stub) in Birmingham AL Feb 22, 1975 with Jay Ferguson as the opener. Ticket cost $5. From the stage he invited essentially everyone to the Marriott bar for an after show drink. My friend went and met Joe.
It was a wonderful time when great bands like this were considered "pop" and were on the top 40
LMFAO!!! They were never, EVER considered POP music. Pop stands for the noise that bubblegum makes when you explode a bubble, hence the term "bubblegum pop music" (The Osmonds, Jackson 5, NSYNC, etc.) It wasn't a derivative of POPULAR. TOP 40 radio was a different animal from pre-teen focused pop radio stations. There were many hard rock songs on Top 40 radio throughout the years, and they would kick your ass if you ever called them POP to their face, lol.
No front drum heads on the kick drums exposing the pillows! Love it!
I wonder how that affects the sound...😮
Drummers did that back in the day (and some still do) to deaden the sound. Otherwise you get a clanging type tone, similar to a marching band bass drum. These days they make different devices to deaden the sound without having to use pillows.
@@chrisreick4325 The gigs I've played in recent years and when needed, I've see where the sound engineer will put a noise gate on the kick to tame that boominess. Man, how times have changed.
Happy thanksgiving Burt!( Mr Sugarman)
🙏🤗☕️cheers
Love the candlabra. Just like Liberace.
Was he the piano player or the other keyboard player?
Turn to Stone next please !!!!!
That song is awesome.
Damn that was good 👍
one of my all time favorites, rock on Joe....
My grandpa used to exchange Morse code messages from a farm in Northern Alberta with Joe in LA in the 1970s. Grandpa was a pioneer at Morse code and Hamm radio. One day he mentioned he had a chat with a musician in LA named Joe. I realized who it was and said "Grandpa, That's Joe Walsh of The Eagles! They're the biggest band on earth now!" Grandpa replied "Nice guy and he's pretty good at Morse code too." I finally got to see Joe play live with The Eagles many years later in Tokyo in 2012 and he was on his A game. #LEGEND
Walsh is the man!
My favorite years of the EAGLES were the Joe Walsh years starting out with "Life in the Fast Lane". Joe Walsh was to the EAGLES as Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham were to FLEETWOOD MAC when they joined in 1974 changing their previous musical direction into something much better!
*Point taken but for me personally the best era was the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac.*
That guitar tone is superb. Love joe! 🙏🍺
I have always considered one this of the greatest songs of Rock.
Sick
more of EAGLES AND JOE WALSH PLZ 👏
One of those artists with a distinctly American sound that's also a sound all his own.
hell yea
Back in the days when Joe would sing the lyric "Bases are loaded and NIXON'S at bat. Playin' it play-by-play..Time to change the batter!!"
This song was a home run hit from day one! Makes ya stop the car crank up the radio and yeah just do it! Few songs got that kick long cool woman in a black dress, black Betty by ram jam best music from ‘55 to mid ‘70’s
"Outta the car, long hair!"
Joe is Badassery 🤘🏻🤘🏻
