"I feel like the song has just started and we are already 7 minutes in??" That is a very common reaction to a Pink Floyd song. They were masters of the long song format. But unlike most other prog rock bands - Pink Floyd never really changed much from Psycadelic Rock even when that became out of fashion - their songs were never boring or outstayed their welcome. They could be complex without being overwhelming or tiredome and they always made come very catchy riffs that they could play on repeat without outstaying their welcome that would become hypnotic the audiences became mesmerized.
I took my wife to see them in Raleigh, NC in May of 1994. To this day, she reminds me of how I caused her to miss the lights exploding at the end. I was thinking about how I was going to get home with over 60,000 other people leaving at the same time. So as the song was ending, I starting out of the stadium. As our backs were to the stage, the lights exploded at the end of the song. I regret it myself. However, going to the concert, I will never regret.

I was at one of the shows, at Earls Court in 94, where this was filmed, truly the greatest show I've seen in my 53 years, I've been to many concerts, but this one was special.
The girls were singing "Run, run, run"...and ROYGBIV (colors produced by a prism, hence the Floyd's logo) throughout this entire concert, though no one ever mentions it. Great reaction, man. Thank you.
Echoes live in Pompeii is a song I can recommend. They went to Pompeii in 70's to film music in an ancient amphitheater and the song is a groovy journey.
I believe David said we hope to see you again because they sold that Earls Court show out 15 nights in a row. That's over 19,000 tickets 15 nights in a row which is a small city in population!
Lol I'm gonna be contrarian and say this is one of my favourites, a nasty song really as at this point in The Wall He's just laiden with every nightmarish prejudice he can find, straight after the fascist hell of "In The Flesh" we go into "Run Like Hell" where he's just spouting nonsense and lashing out. Everything falls apart shortly after this. I love it because it's one of their more aggressive tracks, things like this, One of These Days, Sorrow, The Dogs of War, basically all of The Final Cut, have an increased fury to them amongst the sweet melodies. I also love that main descending riff, it's one of the many Pink Floyd songs I made a point of learning on guitar. I'm not sure if you will get the same intensity of impact as Comfortably Numb, there are Pink Floyd tracks that are as stunning, like Wish you Were Here, Us and Them, On the Turning Away (I guarantee a lot of people will disagree with me on this one as it's from their penultimate album but it's gorgeous). Great Gig in the Sky may do it, thinking on it, as that is something you're unlikely to have heard before.
Pink floyd were an amazing band especially live, this song always hits me because it is meant to, it's a warning to those who cut themselves off from the real world. Big Love Brother
Echoes, the final performance from Gdanske, is something you should see. Rick Wright (keyboards) and David Gilmour were, as David put it when Rick died, musical partners. That concert/song showed how true that was. The back and forth that is so effortless is well worth your time
This is a slice from a great gig. PULSE is a fabulous concert. Though I wasn't at this gig I was lucky enough to get to see Roger Waters about ten years later at the same venue (Earls Court, London) and it's as spectacular a place as it appears.
Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett has nothing but love for Pink Floyd‘s legendary David Gilmour. During a new chat with Guitar World, Hammett admitted, “I love ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ because there is a riff in that song, but it’s so sideways and so around the back. When you listen, it’s actually blues. It’s a freaking blues progression but it doesn’t sound like it, and that in itself is a real accomplishment. So I really think that song is just amazing. With the opening to it, that weird ringing opening chord, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ is just epic, and there’s so much that I love about that.”
As I've said multiple times, Pink Floyd is my second favorite band after TOOL. They have like 22 albums and there music is so rich and full of substance. Most of the albums tell a complete story and this track is right between such great songs that adds to it. I hope your doing good Tommy.

If you really like David Gilmore's voice, you should listen to Wish You Were Here from the same concert. It's my personal favorite PF song, but his singing is the highlight. See if you can catch what makes his guitar sound on it so unique as well.
This was the final encore after comfortably numb and they turned the volume up on everything. This is after two hours of music presented the same way. Imagine having to go home after that.

There are lots of Floyd songs that are well good on their own but really need the context of the whole album. This is definitely on of them. I'd suggest you listened to Shine on you crazy diamond. It summarizes everything that defines Pink Floyd. And it's probably one of the most influencial songs of them (not only them but all of rock songs).

Great reaction! I have seen Floyd live about a dozen times. For me, only the Nightwish finale of Ghost Love Score, followed by The Greatest Show on Earth, comes close to this tour's finale of Comfortably Numb, followed by Run Like Hell. Those are two of my absolutely favorite concert experiences, and best concert memories.
This is a fantastic live performance of a great song. But to me, this song hits hardest within the context of, and as one piece of, the album experience. The Wall is a singular accomplishment in modern music.
Agreed. Great performance, but there’s something about after the intro when the main theme of the song kicks in, it sounds like a happy and cheerful song. Maybe it’s the prominence of the organ if the live performance, but this song feels WAY darker on the album, like straight up menacing. If you’ve never heard this song and see this performance (without reading the lyrics), you come away “oh, what a nice song!” Again, I love the incredible Pulse performance of this song, but hearing this song out of context with the rest of the album doesn’t hit the same way.
I get it. People had trouble believing I'd never listened to Metallica up to a few years ago. It didn't mean I'd never heard of them, or even that I'd never heard their music (I'm sure I had given the radio shows I listened to), but that's different to _listening._

Not from my fave era of Floyd, but is one of my fave tracks. To really appreciate Floyd at their peak (and get to watch them at work) you need to see the performances from their film "Live at Pompeii". It was filmed during the period they made the albums Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon. Featuring their most epic and longest tracks, you get to see them at their most experimental.
This song doesn't even make it into their top 20. But as I said in my suggestion it's the production. You're quite right, Comfortably Numb from your last reaction is from the same concert. That song is the second to last and Run Like Hell is the closing number. Do you believe me if I say that this was totally insane to see live? 😁 There's a point to the production when it comes to Pink Floyd. Most often a production is there to highlight the artists but with Pink Floyd it's the opposite. The production is a distraction, it's a part of the experience and it's there to enhance that experience and the music. The music is more important than the artists. I'll be back with other suggestions with songs by Pink Floyd that definitely comes from the top 10.
As you are on your journey I feel obliged to point out that certain Floyd albums have a thread and narrative. Albums such as "Dark Side of the Moon", and "The Wall" are seamless with each track blending into the next. They should be listened to in the order they are presented, though this is more important for The Wall because it is a story. (The Wall also loops round to the beginning at the end).
Almost every Pink Floyd album carries through with a central theme, but some are full on concept albums. Dark Side Of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut are prime examples of the CA, with The Division Bell having a theme of communication and/or it's breakdown as part of every song, but most wouldn't consider it a true "concept album". It is imo, though.
I always hate when I read in the comments that, you have to or need to listen to something. So I’m just gonna say Danish symphony orchestra, the good the bad and the ugly. *Especially you being a Metallica fan, they open every concert with “The ecstasy of gold” which happens to originate from the movie the good the bad and the ugly.
Now, cause you already did the Pink Floyd tribute song from Nightwish "High hopes", you probably could do the original from this Pulse concert as your next Pink Floyd reaction. I'd also recommend "Time" and "Sorrow".
I don't really know why so many people recommend run like hell. It's not a bad song, but even on the album is a typical album track. Nothing too spectular or particular. Pink Floyd has definetely much more to offer. I personally think it's really a pity we don't have good video material from the time they were at their peak, which is late 60's and throughout the 70's. Maybe at some point I'll just recommend some studio tracks, I think it's much closer to the real Pink Floyd experience. These live videos all lack one important component, which is Roger Waters. They split in early 80's, but without Roger PF is a flexing show, Roger was the soul of the band. I know many Floydians will disagree, but I'm not going into arguing, It's just my opinion. I like what came after the split, but still i feel PF lost its soul. Roger has some great solo work, too. I'm just hesitant of recommending it, he is probably one of the most politically controversial figures in Rock. And it is impossible to react to his music without implying a political statement. So I urge you not to do it.
This song followed Comfortably Numb as the 3rd and final encore. POQ......Run Like Hell and save yourselves. lol The concert starts with the 3 backing singers dressed in white......half way through the ladies leave the stage and return dressed in black. Then they performed The Dark Side Of The Moon.....the whole album and in original track list, and then the 3 encore songs to finnish. I recommend you react to Sorrow from the same concert and then.......damn it, just do the whole concert. Then Echoes live in Pompeii from 1971.
You really should react to some of their songs from their 80's tour Delicate Sounds of Thunder. I just think their sound was better back then. Oh and Rachel Fury!!!! Need I say more. Total hottie!!!!

They have always preferred to under state their clothing because they prefer it to be about the music and NOT about them personally, so they don't dress too snazzy 😊

I understand, so many people love the lights and stage show of gulmore and co... but most will never 'get it'... because they dont listen to the album all at once... At the same time, the story isnt explained so much in the movie and so it must be said its about a child whos father was killed in WW2... when he was less than a year old... Yes more PF! Tho this song isn't on my top list by any means, its still a good song. With context of the album, it might make more of an impact on you PF albums are often concept albums, and if you pluck a song from the middle you might not get the full impact. If you want a more impactful song I'd recommend "On The Turning Away" or my personal favorite "Wish You Were Here".. both are great live. If you’re impressed by the middle aged version, the original will blow your mind. Unfortunately none of the singers can match the vocals of their heyday, as is the case of all the great bands who went through revival tours.
Wolf, this was the last song of a roughly three hour concert, so it's deliberately upbeat, exciting, but not so deep as many of their other pieces. You'll find PLENTY more of interest in the Pulse concert. In particular, if you like your emotions to poke you in the ribs, listen to "Time" and especially "The Great Gig in the Sky".
The thing about Pink Floyd is that starting with Dark Side, they really weren't writing "songs" any longer. They began crafting albums. Singular pieces of music. Suites, broken into movements. Generally speaking, there is an underlying theme. "The Wall" is telling a specific story. But in every case, they are intended to be listened to in their entirety. Pink Floyd no longer did "singles". .... Try an album reaction. Other reactors have had success with the YT algorithm. This is the way the band members WANT you to experience the music. It seems to (often) get a pass. 🤷♂️ (Edit: If nothing else, you owe it to yourself to find a quiet spot, dim the lights, get comfortable, and listen to an entire album.)
Not the best choice for your second listen to PF as others have said. There would have been at least 12 much better examples. Whoever put you on to this one did you no favour and I hope it didn’t put you off too much. Poor, poor choice.

This song doesn't even make it into their top 20. But as I said in my suggestion it's the production. You're quite right, Comfortably Numb from your last reaction is from the same concert. That song is the second to last and Run Like Hell is the closing number. Do you believe me if I say that this was totally insane to see live? 😁
There's a point to the production when it comes to Pink Floyd. Most often a production is there to highlight the artists but with Pink Floyd it's the opposite. The production is a distraction, it's a part of the experience and it's there to enhance that experience and the music. The music is more important than the artists. I'll be back with other suggestions with songs by Pink Floyd that definitely comes from the top 10.

As you are on your journey I feel obliged to point out that certain Floyd albums have a thread and narrative.
Albums such as "Dark Side of the Moon", and "The Wall" are seamless with each track blending into the next. They should be listened to in the order they are presented, though this is more important for The Wall because it is a story.
(The Wall also loops round to the beginning at the end).

Almost every Pink Floyd album carries through with a central theme, but some are full on concept albums. Dark Side Of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut are prime examples of the CA, with The Division Bell having a theme of communication and/or it's breakdown as part of every song, but most wouldn't consider it a true "concept album". It is imo, though.
This was the final song of their oncor following Comfortably Numb. Preceding Comfortably Numb was Wish you were here.
I always hate when I read in the comments that, you have to or need to listen to something. So I’m just gonna say Danish symphony orchestra, the good the bad and the ugly. *Especially you being a Metallica fan, they open every concert with “The ecstasy of gold” which happens to originate from the movie the good the bad and the ugly.

I'd also recommend "Time" and "Sorrow".
Pink Floyd are Masterpieces and Goats , every songs and instrumentals brings you into a journey . Not every bands does that .
Comfortably Numb was the second to last song of the show, this was right after and was the last song, saw it 6 times
I don't really know why so many people recommend run like hell. It's not a bad song, but even on the album is a typical album track. Nothing too spectular or particular. Pink Floyd has definetely much more to offer.
I personally think it's really a pity we don't have good video material from the time they were at their peak, which is late 60's and throughout the 70's. Maybe at some point I'll just recommend some studio tracks, I think it's much closer to the real Pink Floyd experience. These live videos all lack one important component, which is Roger Waters. They split in early 80's, but without Roger PF is a flexing show, Roger was the soul of the band.
I know many Floydians will disagree, but I'm not going into arguing, It's just my opinion. I like what came after the split, but still i feel PF lost its soul.
Roger has some great solo work, too. I'm just hesitant of recommending it, he is probably one of the most politically controversial figures in Rock. And it is impossible to react to his music without implying a political statement. So I urge you not to do it.

I liked this. Didn't love it but I sure wouldn't be adverse to listening to more. They may very well grow on me.

The concert starts with the 3 backing singers dressed in white......half way through the ladies leave the stage and return dressed in black.
Then they performed The Dark Side Of The Moon.....the whole album and in original track list, and then the 3 encore songs to finnish.
I recommend you react to Sorrow from the same concert and then.......damn it, just do the whole concert.
Then Echoes live in Pompeii from 1971.
You really should react to some of their songs from their 80's tour Delicate Sounds of Thunder. I just think their sound was better back then. Oh and Rachel Fury!!!! Need I say more. Total hottie!!!!

I understand, so many people love the lights and stage show of gulmore and co... but most will never 'get it'... because they dont listen to the album all at once... At the same time, the story isnt explained so much in the movie and so it must be said its about a child whos father was killed in WW2... when he was less than a year old... Yes more PF! Tho this song isn't on my top list by any means, its still a good song. With context of the album, it might make more of an impact on you PF albums are often concept albums, and if you pluck a song from the middle you might not get the full impact. If you want a more impactful song I'd recommend "On The Turning Away" or my personal favorite "Wish You Were Here".. both are great live. If you’re impressed by the middle aged version, the original will blow your mind. Unfortunately none of the singers can match the vocals of their heyday, as is the case of all the great bands who went through revival tours.
Wolf, this was the last song of a roughly three hour concert, so it's deliberately upbeat, exciting, but not so deep as many of their other pieces. You'll find PLENTY more of interest in the Pulse concert. In particular, if you like your emotions to poke you in the ribs, listen to "Time" and especially "The Great Gig in the Sky".

The thing about Pink Floyd is that starting with Dark Side, they really weren't writing "songs" any longer.
They began crafting albums.
Singular pieces of music.
Suites, broken into movements.
Generally speaking, there is an underlying theme.
"The Wall" is telling a specific story.
But in every case, they are intended to be listened to in their entirety.
Pink Floyd no longer did "singles".

Try an album reaction. Other reactors have had success with the YT algorithm.
This is the way the band members WANT you to experience the music. It seems to (often) get a pass. 🤷♂️
(Edit: If nothing else, you owe it to yourself to find a quiet spot, dim the lights, get comfortable, and listen to an entire album.)
Not the best choice for your second listen to PF as others have said. There would have been at least 12 much better examples. Whoever put you on to this one did you no favour and I hope it didn’t put you off too much. Poor, poor choice.
