Do yourself a favor and purchase the DVD of this concert. It is great from start to finish. I was lucky enough to have seen this tour in person and seen them 2 other times over the years supporting other album releases. They are on another level. You do not see Pink Floyd in person, you experience Pink Floyd in person.
Pink Floyd is legitimately one of the greatest rock bands of all time and are a genre all to themselves. All of their songs are different but there's Pink Floydness to them all. I very much hope you continue to listen to their music. Also, don't shy away from the long songs. Echoes is a 23 minute long masterpiece. I'm very excited to see where you go with Pink Floyd from here.
Oh I have no issues with long songs. I prefer long songs. Yea, this was wild. Its crazy how I avoided them. But to be honest, I don't think younger me would appreciate them.
You are absolutely correct. They are in their own genre. Not many groups can outdo their studio versions but Floyd manages to perform better live, as unbelievable as that may sound to a none Floydian.
I'm 51 years old, been listening to Pink Floyd since grade school. I've heard this song thousands of times and still get goosebumps EVERY TIME David comes in with his vocals. He is unique and a treasure. We are fortunate he has shared his gifts with us.
58 here, and this track always brings me to tears no matter how many times I watch it, been listening since I was a teenager. It had a profound effect on me then and still does.
The guy with the guitar is David Gilmore, the God of the Stratocaster. Some people say the second solo of comfortably numb (as played on the pulse tour) is the best guitar solo ever played on this planet. If you loved this, watch also „High hopes“ from the same concert!
You're right, David Gilmour's voice is heavenly. One thing I like about it that I just realized, consciously anyway, is he doesn't use vibrato. And don't worry about not being able to put words to the feelings Pink Floyd inspires. We PF lovers get it, no words necessary.
Only the ones who can "FEEL" the music will get it. Each note played has emotion behind it and to this date Pink Floyd does it the best for me hands down.
So true!!! David's guitar work is pure emotion. Every note is so pure and he just crushes them like no other. For me,best guitarist ever. His work is unparalleled.
You should look and hear to the version on "David Gilmour Live in Pompeii 2016". It's absolute impressive what a 70 year old man in black shirt and jeans can do if he knows what he do. It's a little bit like wine or whiskey, the older the better :)
This entire Pulse concert is one huge masterpiece. However, also check out On The Turning Away from the Delicate Sound Of Thunder concert...it has in my opinion David's best live solo ever.
i have both delicate sound of thunder and pulse on blueray. and luckily enough i got to see pink floyd on both of those tours. i also saw them on the dark side of the moon and animals tours. this is my favorite band of all time.
I don't think I have ever regretted my 50 year hiatus from listening to pop/rock/metal as I do right now. That was magnificent. Hopefully, a huge Pink Floyd rabbithole just opened up.
65 here I need to go outside to breathe because it brings so many memories and his voice omg pure class, guitar pure class everything about the Pinks is pure class they are not from this earth I am telling you
I was at that concert. It was at Earl's Court, London. The arena had been specially set up with 5.1 speakers throughout. Most of us had our senses 'taken over' during the entire show.
I was there the night this was recorded, I never will experience anything like this again. I can't explain what happened when he played this solo, but my heart, soul and body felt every note and was taken somewhere ethereal. I can't put it into words. Please don't stop listening to Pink Floyd. I strongly recommend you listen to Time, with the lyrics. It will make you evaluate your life and how you live it.
My sister used to listen to Pink Floyd on repeat when I was younger. I remember hearing Dark Side of the Moon playing from her room and I just began sobbing my wee heart out listening to it through her bedroom door.. was only about 10years old and had never experienced that kind of emotion in my life before, especially not from music. So many of Pink Floyd’s songs still make me sob like I did that day. They truly are the best band to ever exist👍🏼 Much love from Scotland, everyone💙🏴
Shock and awe - a biblical experience for you. A masterpiece that I never get tired of. I still get the chills. Thank you PF for the enjoyment you have given me over all these years.
One of my many all time favourites! David is pure breathing art! Smoothest expressive tones and he literally makes that guitar sing !! So happy this blew you away
This track at this particular concert was the culmination, the height, the perfection of decades of practice and performance by this band. This was their ultimate moment. Perfectly flawless art.
Finally an appropriate reaction. Silence! Quite literally one of the greatest performances of one of the finest and most meaningful compositions of all time. What can we really say after hearing it for the first time that’s not selling it short? Your silence was potent! 😊
How opens your mind now huh?!!!! Great reaction. This whole concert is unbelievable. SORROW, HIGH HOPES, KEEP TALKING, MONEY. RUN LIKE HELL, SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND are all great stuff.
I love the fact that I could actually hear your brain cracking open and attempting to reconcile what you had just heard…saw this same tour on May 6, 1994 in Tampa Stadium. I was 23 years old and that was a night I’ll never forget and forever wish I could be in that moment once again🤯
Your stunned silence at the end reminds me of what attendees at these concerts remember when they left the stadium afterwards - a completely unique phenomenon: tens of thousands of silent, emotionally stunned music lovers, almost unable to process what had just happened to them over the last 3+ hours, looking at the world with new eyes, and emptied of every trivial concern they’d carried in. They had been utterly transported and transformed. This was the greatest concert production ever seen or heard, and nothing has ever come close in the now 30-ish years that have followed. And now you have to see the rest of it. Fasten your seatbelts, friend.
You are standing atop a VERY big iceberg. You have no idea how big. Pink Floyd is one of the greatest groups of all time. I was in high school when this came out & it has been my favorite song and guitar solos of all time ever since, as well as many other people's. As someone else mentioned, the guitar solos on this song have been voted best ever in a number of lists. That with the magnificent vocals & the overwhelming staging, lighting and the opening mirror ball make for what is a musical experience that is about as good as it gets. Here's the good news. There's a LOT more where that came from! Floyd has SO many epic songs. You started a memorable journey today. We cannot wait to walk with you on it. I don't know if you are considering getting a Twitch stream going, but if you do, you would not hurt anyone's feelings of you livestreamed your first walk through "Dark Side of the Moon", especially on the year of it's 50th anniversary. Or if you're feeling really brave, do the entire remastered "Pulse" live DVD where they perform all of DSotM & many others. Floyd is one of those groups that is best experienced live for sure. In the meantime, it is hard to pare this down to a list of just a few songs, but my top 5 might be (besides this, of course) 1. Time / Great Gig in the Sky (should be listened to at the same time. They go together) 2. Run Like Hell 3) Shine On You Crazy Diamond 4) I can't pick ONE song from "Animals". It's really one BIG song! If I had to ... "Dogs"? 5) "On the Turning Away". Man, that was hard to pick only 5! There are so many exceptional songs. Keep in mind that Floyd's pre-DSotM years were very weird experimental psychedelic songs that had some gems (especially "Echoes"), but nothing like everything from DSotM on (excepting "The Final Cut" album. ugh.) A lot of Floyd purists will try to tell you "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" & "The Division Bell" albums are not as good because Roger Waters was not part of the group then. Believe me, don't believe them. Aaaaand I've gone super long again. Sigh. Sorry. You know how passionate I am about great music. This IS the short version! Lol! As always, perfect reaction to the perfect song. There is no better reaction than a full minute of stunned silence to this once in a lifetime first time experience. Beautiful. Hugs & thank you. ))
Well said lana! I'll add that the first PF album was Piper At The Gates of Dawn released in 1967 the same year as Beatles Sgt. Pepper. A very different sounding PF then with founding member Syd Barrett who after the one album began to suffer from sever mental illness and was 'backed up' by and eventually replaced by guitarist David Gilmour. Other gems from the earlier years are the tracks 'One Of These Days', 'Fearless' and 'Echoes' all from the album MEDDLE, 'The Gold It's In The...' from the album OBSCURED BY CLOUDS....and of course the concert film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii which is the band setting up their full PA system in the center of an ancient amphitheater there and jamming a full set of material at max volume to a film crew only...and the echoes of the ancient city. th-cam.com/video/CHOza45c57w/w-d-xo.html
"This guy" is David Gilmour, one of, if not the, greatest emotive guitarist and vocalist ever. He has been a main part of Pink Floyd since 1968; surprised you never heard of him. Glad you enjoyed this performance. Hope you continue on your Pink Floyd journey.
The stage is supposed to be an eye. The round part is the eyeball. You see it move to look down at David Gilmore. And the white lights focus onto him. That is the thing with Pink Floyd concerts. They have the best shows all around. There is things that happen all around the stadium. I saw them live in 94 with their Division Bell Tour. So glad I saw them at least once live.
Awesome pick! This has the greatest guitar solo(s) of all time. And its not just my opinion, its been voted for tons of times. David Gilmour has also awesome singing voice ❤ Pink Floyd has begun more and more dear to me year by year. EDIT: Maybe you want to listen "Coming back to life" live version? I bet you'll love that!!
I was lucky enough to see them live three times. In '81, '87 and on this tour in Vancouver in '94. No band puts on a better concert. When you take the show as a whole, the visuals with the music, no one comes close. I have been to over 300 concerts and festivals seeing in excess of 400 different groups and solo artists...
This is my absolute favorite Pink Floyd song! This song was very cathartic for me before I learned how to ground and cleanse. I used to absorb so much energy (negative and positive) that I would reach a state where I would just completely "shut down" and then I heard this song and it described how I felt when I was in that shut down mode. After that I'd just put it on repeat until I felt like me again and got all the other energies out. Thanks for this reaction ❤
That feeling you had at the ending, is pretty much what I felt when I saw them on this tour in Copenhagen in '94... when that giant disco ball was lit up and began to unfold... unreal... absolutely unreal!
No video does that disco ball justice. It was astounding, mesmerizing in person. A billion points of revolving light... Most incredible show I have, or will ever witness.
Pink Floyd has been around since1967, this is the last tour of Pink Floyd, I saw them in New Orleans, about 60 to 80 thousand people there, the dvd went 7 times platinum, there is so much to the whole show, ex. There were 4 sets of speaker in dome the front and rear an both side. First 30minutes sounds guestion swirl around speaker-got faster and faster them they hit the stage and all kind of laserslights exploded and it was on the most fantastic show every I have witness. And will never see again thank you Pink Floyd for doing it Right.
Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd. This will be something you feel blessed to experience. High Hopes is a great one, but Ill recommend you react to every song from this concert. Hell Ill even go so far as to recommend you do a live stream and watch the entire concert from beginning to end with us. Every single song from this concert is performed the exact same way. This concert was studio quality from the first note
I first caught Pink Floyd - specifically, the 'Pulse' concert that this is from - quite by accident after midnight on late-night TV in the late 90's. And I couldn't turn it off, I watched the entire concert (even though I had to work in the morning). The music plus the incredible lighting was mesmerising. I became a Pink Floyd addict overnight.
You are not just hearing the collaborative brilliance of several legendary musicians, you are hearing David. Freakin. Gilmour. David Gilmour is like no other. None. He's alone.
Sometimes we're just not ready for certain bands or songs until we're actually ready. I've listened to certain bands or songs and said "not a fan" and then came back to it a few years later and said "what was I thinking? This is awesome". I got to see this show at the Silverdome in Pontiac MI. The most amazing spectacle I've ever witnessed. I was 15th row from the stage on the main floor. You could feel the heat from the flame jets as intensely as if you were standing right next to them. The lasers were right over our heads and felt like if you jumped as high as you could then you could almost touch them. There were speakers all around the stadium and the sound was hitting you from every angle. And that disco ball made you feel as if you were part of the light show. As for this song itself, it is from the album The Wall, which was made into the very same movie you spoke of. It was written, and mostly sang, by Roger Waters, their original bass player who left the band in the early 80s. Taken out of context, its an eerie, yet beautiful, song with one of the best guitar solos ever recorded. But in context of the album, which is a concept album, it's much more heartbreaking. It shows how our life experiences as children can shape, or break, us as adults. If you want to check out another song from this same show, then I highly recommend Run Like Hell. It's the finale that follows Comfortably Numb and shows everything that that stage set was capable of. But I would also recommend the album version of the song Time, from Dark Side of the Moon, for the second best guitar solo ever recorded. It also has a message that hits that much harder as we get older. Keep up the great reactions, my friend, and your growing audience will keep up the support.
50 years ago Pink Floyd were already 200 years ahead of everybody! I bought my first Pink Floyd album in 1969 (Ummagumma) and saw them live in 1971 and 4 more times after that. For me This is the BEST band of all times. Now I'm 71 years old and still listen to them everyday. The best guitar solo of Gilmour is always the last one we listened. There are so many best solo of David!
A good song catches your attention, a great song makes you ask some questions, but the best songs make you question everything. Pink Floyd are truly the best.
The very best live performance - ever. It reaches a climax unmatched by any group. If you’re having difficulties in life, this performance can almost be too much to take. Another mesmerizing live performance is “On the Turning Away” from The Delicate Sound of Thunder” tour.
This song is NOT an anomaly for Pink Floyd. You could hear "Time" from DSOTM (one of the greatest albums of all time) and "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" from Wish You Were Here and "Echoes" from Meddle and be equally amazed. The entire Pulse concert is amazing. "The Wall" is amazing. "Animals" is amazing. You have no idea.
I saw Floyd in 88 and then on this tour in 94 (I think?) David’s singing and playing are truly life-altering experiences. (We tried to get tix to their 1980 The Wall show but they only played a handful of shows) ❤️🤘🏼🫡
I'm so happy you've discovered one of the greatest rock bands of all time. There's just something intangible about their music that evokes all the feels.
I kinda had the same issues with the Eagles. My Dad was dating a woman who ONLY listened to the Eagles, and it drove my lil' skatepunk self insane. I wasn't a big fan of Pink Floyd either, but since I have gotten older I've slowed down and learned to appreciate the classics a lot more. This song is definitely a trip, love it!
Pink Floyd is exceptional. To me, a part of big sad moments of my life, my father’s funeral and my own psychotic breakdown. Goosebumps, chills and tears. “Wish you were here” is another one .
When Gilmour cuts in, it sounds like he is coming from another dimension. They did an excellent job with the "contrast" between the opening vocals and Gilmour. His voice sounds better here than on the studio version in my opinion.
Wow, I would have never expected you to react to Pink Floyd. I am a fan since I was maybe 8 or 9. Pink Floyd are the soundtrack of my life. I’m happy to see so many Floydians here in the community. You have just experienced a small glimpse of what we have experienced our entire life. Thanks to the patron for recommending this and thanks to you for being so open minded and responsive to your council 😊
Welcome to the machine. Your reaction was so genuine, it got me emotional watching it all sink in. Please dig a little deeper, there is much to be found. I was lucky enough to have a dad that loved great music. The Division Bell tour, Pasadena, CA on April 16, 1994 is a night I’ll carry with me to my grave. Amazing band.
From the same concert: "Sorrow", "One of These Days", "Run Like Hell", and "High Hopes." "Echoes Live in Pompeii" to see the classic line-up at the dawn of their golden age. From their studio albums, "Shine on You Crazy Diamond", "Wish You Were Here", "Dogs", "Sheep". People will recommend that you listen to "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" from start to finish as they are concept albums but as far as individual tracks, "Time", "Money" "Great Gig in the Sky" and "Us and Them" from Dark Side. "Hey You", "Goodbye Blue Sky", "Mother", and "Another Brick in the Wall" from The Wall. And yeah, there's about fifty other songs that I didn't mention that are worth a listen as well but this should get ya started :D "Dogs of War" live from the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour is a particular favorite of mine that no one else ever seems to mention.
The perfect song. Gilmour's vocals, amazing. The guitar work, especially the second solo, best ever, keyboards, bass, backup vocals.....perfect. Happy to see your reaction that you're blown away. I was at that tour, live. Life changing. WELCOME TO PINK FLOYD!!!! Dig deep and enjoy!!!!
If you want that same feeling from the same guy ( David Gilmour) try Pink Floyd's 1989 live version of "On the Turning Away" same great voice with an incredible live show which is the norm for Pink Floyd!!! Any song from this Pulse concert is at least equivalent to any other bands finale! The finale for this show is a song called "Run Like Hell"!
The greatest solo in a live performance in history and not one word about it?
Spark em
David Gilmore is a freaking legend on guitar and vocals. The whole band made some amazing music that shouldn't be skipped out on

I've listened to Pink Floyd and started crying... for no reason I can explain. Some bands evoke spontaneous emotions some don't.
Same with me. Especially this song. ❤️
I was at this concert and I cried to this also...... then when Run Like Hell came on I couldn't stop smiling!

I love that he was hypnotised by Dave Gilmore even before the solos 👌

This song, these lyrics, and David Gilmours’ solo is nothing short of a masterpiece! 🎸
Listening to Pink Floyd since 1972 and still do, it's ART.

'Time' made me cry once, I'm not sure if it was the sheer sonic brilliance or the message they were telling me....
Pink Floyd Echoes live at Pompeii is a must and set the controls for the hart of the sun at the same event
This entire Pulse concert is one huge masterpiece. However, also check out On The Turning Away from the Delicate Sound Of Thunder concert...it has in my opinion David's best live solo ever.

Pink Floyd is always mind blowing!!!
David Gilmour. Singer and lead guitarist. Awesome dude.
Comfortably numb is they way I'd describe how I feel after listening to this song.
Awesome pick! This has the greatest guitar solo(s) of all time. And its not just my opinion, its been voted for tons of times. David Gilmour has also awesome singing voice ❤
Pink Floyd has begun more and more dear to me year by year.
EDIT: Maybe you want to listen "Coming back to life" live version? I bet you'll love that!!
Imagine being 19 and seeing this very concert live, to say it was a mindblowing experience would be understating it.
Pulse is probably one of if not the best LIVE albums.
Glad you focused on Gilmour's voice, he is such a great guitar player that ppl often overlook his vocals.
You cannot go wrong with this song. TWO of the best guitar solos ever in the same song. There are a number of versions out there, but always epic.
I was speechless for days after seeing them live, one of the best days of my life
Pink Floyd has been around since1967, this is the last tour of Pink Floyd, I saw them in New Orleans, about 60 to 80 thousand people there, the dvd went 7 times platinum, there is so much to the whole show, ex.
Try Sorrow from the same concert. You won’t regret it.
Never really been a big Pink Floyd fan, but some of their songs hit you like a sledgehammer, and this is truly one of them.
yea, this was wild.
That hits hard.
None. He's alone.
Richard Wright (RIP), the keyboardist, was so good....edit! the older gent in front on the keyboards to be exact, I see they have 2 on this stage.
he was great
Sometimes we're just not ready for certain bands or songs until we're actually ready.
Now go watch Sorrow live from Pulse. Then Echoes live in Gdansk.
I was fortunate enough to go to Pink Floyd Pulse Tour. Phenomenal Band Live
A good song catches your attention, a great song makes you ask some questions, but the best songs make you question everything. Pink Floyd are truly the best.
Your reaction was as beautiful as the song. So thank you too. You really got to check the whole concert! You will never be the same again! ;)
Appreciate that friend. I love when music just decides to blow my mind.
The very best live performance - ever. It reaches a climax unmatched by any group. If you’re having difficulties in life, this performance can almost be too much to take. Another mesmerizing live performance is “On the Turning Away” from The Delicate Sound of Thunder” tour.
You’ll feel the same way when he comes in singing on the chorus of High Hopes (from PULSE).
This song, this man and his guitar, make an immediate connection to your soul!
Now you have to rabbit hole the whole concert Pulse!!! Life changing
30 second in, and I am with you. Period.
Pink Floyd is exceptional. To me, a part of big sad moments of my life, my father’s funeral and my own psychotic breakdown. Goosebumps, chills and tears. “Wish you were here” is another one .
I've been listening to Pink Floyd for over 40 years, and they still give me goosebumps. I feel privileged to actually seeing them in concert.
When Gilmour cuts in, it sounds like he is coming from another dimension. They did an excellent job with the "contrast" between the opening vocals and Gilmour. His voice sounds better here than on the studio version in my opinion.
One of my favourite bands EVER lol
I was also at this gig , amazing.
This song pours into your soul, you feel it and you'll never forget it....ever.
That silence you had after the end.."What have I missed out on all these years"....
David Gilmour is what every guitar wants for Christmas...and that thing at the end was the spaceship coming to take David back to his home planet!
Thats amazing!
I love that thing you do at the end of a song that's melted your face off when you sit there silently gathering thought and emotions together 😂
Its been happening so much lately lol
Ahhh man I remember going in a journey and seeing A Pink Floyd 3D Laser Show It Was So Epic!!!
