  • I've always wanted to buy an original late 80's or early 90's Honda Africa Twin replica. Since those are very hard to come by, I figured I would pick up the next best thing, A late model Africa Twin CRF1000L. Heres the short story on it along with the first mod! `

    I had an XRV750 here in the U.K., loved it, sold it, then 10 years later the new edition came out, yep that’s for me and bought one new no test ride, totally impressed. Loved it for 4 years.

    Just picked up a 2016 AT in red/black. Sweet bike. Now I'm going through your video catalog to see what you've done and your thoughts. Just watched the water pump replacement. Good stuff. Love your content, Chris. Congrats to you and Jen on the little one.

    Never seen a cramp buster pretty cool add on. Also liked the surprise find in the book. Took me back. Except mine was an old spelling book we used.

      Yeah man those crampbusters really help out on long trips! Especially on my xl600r because that throttle is pretty stiff with the Dual carburetors. And haha yeah I went to put the book back and saw it sitting on the floor. Wasn't sure if I should put that clip in the video but oh well. lol.

    Nice bike Mr. I had the 750 shaft version years ago and splatted some Harley fitment road tyres on it, then took it to the Isle of Man for TT week. Put a lot of so called quick bikes to shame as it handled a treat. Good times 😎

    Those n translap s were popular over here in the 90 s too..based around the Dakar rally factory entries..Honda are by far the best quality bike manufacturer in my mind..look at mick doohans 500 back in the day..

    Hello, you have very good taste for buying, it is Africa Twin, apart from the mechanics it has, I have the Africa Twin 750 from 1994 and it is perfect, here in Spain there is a very large Africa Twin Club, it is called the Africa Twin Club España has a website, greetings.
    Your videos are very interesting.

    Thanks for doing this, Chris! Just found it in perusing your vids collection....I like the Africa Twin a whole lot but for any offroading it just seems like it would be too big/heavy, esp if dropped. Beauty, good luck w/ it!

    Great bike. I got one as well and I got me one as a DCT. Was so very close to selling the manuel one but canceled at the last minute. So now I sold the automatic and that was a damn good decision. It’s such a well made machine!

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah great bike for sure! I've really been enjoying it! Definitely Falling in Love. So wait you had a DCT first and now you have a manual? I was disappointed to see how many of these are DCT. I had to contact quite a few people before I found a manual that I was looking for.

    • @Muffin1280
      @Muffin1280 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NoNonsenseKnowHow I had the manual first and then bought the DCT. I thought it’s just as great as an automatic car but far from it. I mean the acceleration is amazing but in almost every other driving situation I could not get used to it and felt disconnected from the bike. A clutch is so much more direct. Over here in Europe the DCTs are fewer than the manual CRFs.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Muffin1280 oh I got you. So then you switched back to a manual then. That's cool. I haven't ridden one of the dct's but I've heard pretty good things about them overall. I just don't get why anybody would really want one. Unless they have a left hand that doesn't work. Then I guess I could understand it

    • @Muffin1280
      @Muffin1280 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      NoNonsenseKnowHow yeah right, I heard only good things about it as well. The best thing was that I kept my manual the whole time 😁

    Hey, what year is that one? Did it have ride-by-wire? I was watching you rev it, and there was a MASSIVE lag between you turning the throttle AND the revs increasing. Was this the bike? Or is the sound slightly out of sync? Cheers Campbell :)

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a 2017. Not ride by wire. It might be the sound sync on the video because in person it's throttle response is pretty good. I have no complaints there

    Great bike used the money and low miles congrats man. I'm interested in 2016 and 2017 Africa twin for a second bike for adventure riding and some road riding too. Just gravel roads at first then maybe riding some of the southern madr. I have been riding for 5 years. Do you think this would be a good choice for me?

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on a lot of variables. How tall and heavy are you? It's definitely a big bike. I personally think a smaller bike that's lighter weight is more fun especially if you plan on hitting trails.

    • @marshall3498
      @marshall3498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NoNonsenseKnowHow I'm 5 10 and 175 pounds. But I want a bike that is great on the road including rides on the interstate and 4 lane state highways and backroads plus some gravel roads and a little bit harder offroad riding sometimes . I dont except the bike to do well on single track trails as I wont be riding on that at all.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow

      @@NoNonsenseKnowHow Not yet, hoping to 'upgrade' from my DR650 in July/August in 2021. Currently considering T7 and AT as front runners (will probably look at other things). A lot of people say the Africa Twin is really soft, which doesn't appeal much and there are almost no videos of it being ridden hard on windy roads - I've found 1. The T7 is supposed to rock on-road and clearly, it is an absolute weapon off-road - just not keen on the tall seat height. I watched the T7 in an acceleration test against the KTM 790 and there wasn't much in it, which was really impressive - it basically came down to rider weight. I love the look of the AT, the low seat height and ergonomics, power looks ok on paper, weather protection looks good, have seen some spirited riding of the AT off-road. Anyway, glad you are enjoying your new bike - does your seat have two positions?? (High and low??)

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got you. Haven't seen much or ridden one of the t7. I've always been a Honda guy and loved the Africa twin so it was a no-brainer to go with the AT for me. Yes mine has the Hi-Lo seat. I leave it in the high position
